In light of the recently established BRST invariant formulation of the Gribov-Zwanziger theory, we show that Zwanziger's horizon function displays a universal character. More precisely, the correlation functions of local BRST invariant operators evaluated with the Yang-Mills action supplemented with a BRST invariant version of the Zwanziger's horizon function and quantized in an arbitrary class of covariant, color invariant and renormalizable gauges which reduce to the Landau gauge when all gauge parameters are set to zero, have a unique, gauge parameters independent result, corresponding to that of the Landau gauge when the restriction to the Gribov region $Ω$ in the latter gauge is imposed. As such, thanks to the BRST invariance, the cut-off at the Gribov region $Ω$ acquires a gauge independent meaning in the class of the physical correlators.
We consider the BRST invariant Gribov-Zwanziger theory with appropriate horizon term in Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism. The usual infinitesimal BRST transformation is generalized by considering the parameter finite and field dependent. We show that such finite field dependent BRST transformation with suitable choice of finite parameter relates the generating functional of Gribov-Zwanziger theory to that of the Yang-Mills theory.
We consider the Gribov-Zwanziger (GZ) theory with appropriate horizon term which exhibits the nilpotent BRST invariance. This infinitesimal BRST transformation has been generalized by allowing the parameter to be finite and field dependent (FFBRST). By constructing appropriate finite field dependent parameter we show that the generating functional of GZ theory with horizon term is related to that of Yang-Mills (YM) theory through FFBRST transformation.
The Gribov-Zwanziger framework accounting for the existence of Gribov copies is extended to N=1 Super Yang--Mills theories quantized in the Landau gauge. We show that the restriction of the domain of integration in the Euclidean functional integral to the first Gribov horizon can be implemented in a way to recover non-perturbative features of N=1 Super Yang--Mills theories, namely: the existence of the gluino condensate as well as the vanishing of the vacuum energy.
The Refined Gribov-Zwanziger framework takes into account the existence of equivalent gauge field configurations in the gauge-fixing quantization procedure of Euclidean Yang-Mills theories. Recently, this setup was extended to the family of linear covariant gauges giving rise to a local and BRST-invariant action. In this paper, we give an algebraic proof of the renormalizability of the resulting action to all orders in perturbation theory.
In this work, we study the propagators of matter fields within the framework of the Refined Gribov-Zwanziger theory, which takes into account the effects of the Gribov copies in the gauge-fixing quantization procedure of Yang-Mills theory. In full analogy with the pure gluon sector of the Refined Gribov-Zwanziger action, a non-local long-range term in the inverse of the Faddeev-Popov operator is added in the matter sector. Making use of the recent BRST invariant formulation of the Gribov-Zwanziger framework achieved in [Capri et al 2016], the propagators of scalar and quark fields in the adjoi…
We introduce the notion of finite BRST-antiBRST transformations, both global and field-dependent, with a doublet $λ_{a}$, $a=1,2$, of anticommuting Grassmann parameters and find explicit Jacobians corresponding to these changes of variables in Yang-Mills theories. It turns out that the finite transformations are quadratic in their parameters. At the same time, exactly as in the case of finite field-dependent BRST transformations for the Yang-Mills vacuum functional, special field-dependent BRST-antiBRST transformations, with $s_{a}$-potential parameters $λ_{a}=s_{a}Λ$ induced by a finite even-…
In this paper, we discuss non-perturbative infrared features of Yang-Mills theory in Euclidean space-time dimensions greater than four in the Landau gauge and within the Refined Gribov-Zwanziger framework, which enables us to take into account the existence of gauge copies by restricting the domain of integration in the path integral to the Gribov region. Evidences for a decoupling/massive solution for the gluon propagator in higher dimensions are provided. This behavior is strengthened the bigger the dimension is. Further, we show that, by a dimensional reduction of the Refined Gribov-Zwanzig…
In previous work arXiv:1009.4135 we have shown that the soft breaking of the BRST symmetry arising within the Gribov-Zwanziger framework can be converted into a linear breaking, while preserving the nilpotency of the BRST operator. Due to its compatibility with the Quantum Action Principle, the linearly broken BRST symmetry directly translates into a set of Slavnov-Taylor identities. We show that these identities guarantee the multiplicative renormalizability of both Gribov-Zwanziger and Refined Gribov-Zwanziger theories to all orders. The known property that only two renormalization factors a…
We have found a nilpotent quantum symmetry of Yang-Mills theory restricted to the Gribov region. In fact, we give a set of transformations for the filds a la BRST that leaves the Gribov-Zwanziger action invariant and obeys the nilpotency, although the usual BRST symmetry is broken due to the non-vanishing Gribov parameter representing the presence of the Gribov horizon in the configuration space of the Yang-Mills field. We show that the horizon condition (the gap equation determining the Gribov parameter) follows from the modified BRST invariance of the vacuum.
We construct the local Gribov-Zwanziger action for SU(2) Euclidean Yang-Mills theories in the maximally Abelian (MA) gauge with U(1)$_3$ Landau gauge fixing based on the Zwanziger's work in the Landau gauge. By the restriction of the functional integral region to the Gribov region in the MA gauge, we give the nonlocal action. We localize the action with new fields and obtain the action with the shift of the new scalar fields, which has the terms, corresponding to the localized action of the horizon function in the MA gauge. The diagonal gluon propagator in the MA gauge at tree level behaves li…
In this proceeding, $SU(N)$ Yang-Mills theory is quantized in the linear covariant gauges, while taking into account the issue of Gribov copies and we construct the one-loop effective potential for a set of mass dimension 2 condensates, including the Gribov parameter, that refines the infrared region of the Gribov-Zwanziger theory, whilst respecting renormalization group invariance and BRST symmetry.
We localize a previously established nonlocal BRST invariance of the Gribov-Zwanziger (GZ) action by the introduction of additional fields. We obtain a modified GZ action with a corresponding local BRST invariance. We show that correlation functions of the original elementary GZ fields do not change upon evaluation with the modified partition function. We discuss that for vanishing Gribov mass, we are brought back to the original Yang-Mills theory with standard BRST invariance.
The present work discusses an approach to access the physical spectrum of the Yang-Mills theory quantized in the Landau gauge. By using recent lattice data on the gluon propagator, it is possible to study the two-point functions of gauge invariant composite operators, from which masses of glueballs can be extracted. It turns out that the momentum dependence of the gluon propagator is very well reproduced by the corresponding tree-level gluon propagator obtained from the Refined Gribov-Zwanziger theory, which takes into account the presence of the Gribov horizon as well as the effect of condens…
We summarize recent results for the Gribov-Zwanziger Lagrangian which includes the effect of restricting the path integral to the first Gribov region. These include the two loop MSbar and one loop MOM gap equations for the Gribov mass.
We investigate the dimension two condensate $< {\bar ϕ}^{ab}_i ϕ^{ab}_i -{\bar ω}^{ab}_i ω^{ab}_i >$ within the Gribov-Zwanziger approach to Euclidean Yang-Mills theories in the Coulomb gauge, in both 3 and 4 dimensions. An explicit calculation shows that, at the first order, the condensate $< {\bar ϕ}^{ab}_i ϕ^{ab}_i -{\bar ω}^{ab}_i ω^{ab}_i >$ is plagued by a non-integrable IR divergence in 3D, while in 4D it exhibits a logarithmic UV divergence, being proportional to the Gribov parameter $γ^2$. These results indicate that in 3D the transverse spatial Coulomb gluon two-point correlation fun…
We consider the gluon propagator $D(p^2)$ at various lattice sizes and spacings in the case of pure SU(3) Yang-Mills gauge theories using the Landau gauge fixing. We discuss a class of fits in the infrared region in order to (in)validate the tree level analytical prediction in terms of the (Refined) Gribov-Zwanziger framework. It turns out that an important role is played by the presence of the widely studied dimension two gluon condensate $\braket{A^2}$. Including this effect allows to obtain an acceptable fit up to 1 á 1.5 GeV, while corroborating the Refined Gribov-Zwanziger prediction for …
We aim to offer a kind of unifying view on two popular topics in the studies of nonperturbative aspects of Yang-Mills theories in the Landau gauge: the so-called Gribov-Zwanziger approach and the Kugo-Ojima confinement criterion. Borrowing results from statistical thermodynamics, we show that imposing the Kugo-Ojima confinement criterion as a boundary condition leads to a modified yet renormalizable partition function. We verify that the resulting partition function is equivalent with the one obtained by Gribov and Zwanziger, which restricts the domain of integration in the path integral withi…
The quantization of non-Abelian gauge theories is known to be plagued by Gribov copies. Typical examples are the copies related to zero modes of the Faddeev-Popov operator, which give rise to singularities in the ghost propagator. In this work we present an exact and compact expression for the ghost propagator as a function of external gauge fields, in SU(N) Yang-Mills theory in the Landau gauge. It is shown, to all orders, that the condition for the ghost propagator not to have a pole, the so-called Gribov's no-pole condition, can be implemented by demanding a nonvanishing expectation value f…
We reexamine the conventional arguments concerned with the scaling and decoupling solutions for the ghost and gluon propagators in the Landau gauge Yang-Mills theory. We point out a few issues to be clarified, which seems to be overlooked in the previous investigations in this field, in the fully non-perturbative treatment. We propose a trick which enables one to incorporate the Gribov horizon directly into the self-consistent Schwinger-Dyson equation in the gauge-fixed Yang-Mills theory, using the Gribov-Zwanziger framework with the horizon term. We obtain the following results, irrespective …
Over the last years, lattice calculations in pure Yang-Mills gauge theory seem to have come more or less to a consensus. The ghost propagator is not enhanced and the gluon propagator is positivity violating, infrared suppressed and non-vanishing at zero momentum. From an analytical point of view, several groups are agreeing with these results. Among them, the refined Gribov-Zwanziger (RGZ) framework also accommodates for these results. The question which rises next is, if our models hold the right form for the propagators, how to extract information on the real physical observables, i.e. the g…
The effect of the dynamical mass generation on the gluon and ghost propagators in Euclidean Yang-Mills theory in the Landau gauge is analysed within Zwanziger's local formulation of the Gribov horizon.
We propose a Gribov-Zwanziger type action for the Landau-DeWitt gauge that preserves, for any gauge group, the invariance under background gauge transformations. At zero temperature, and to one-loop accuracy, the model can be related to the Gribov no-pole condition. We apply the model to the deconfinement transition in SU(2) and SU(3) Yang-Mills theories and compare the predictions obtained with a single or with various (color dependent) Gribov parameters that can be introduced in the action without jeopardizing its background gauge invariance. The Gribov parameters associated to color directi…
The infrared behavior of propagators and vertices is derived for the maximally Abelian gauge and the Gribov-Zwanziger action relying on functional equations. The derivation and analysis of Dyson-Schwinger equations increase considerably in complexity when going beyond the standard Landau gauge fixing and the available tools have to be improved. For the derivation of the equations a computer program (DoDSE) was developed in order to handle the plethora of terms. The process of determining possible infrared solutions is abstracted to obtain further insight into the structure of the so-called inf…
We propose a trick which enables one to incorporate the Gribov horizon into the Schwinger-Dyson equation in Landau and Coulomb gauge Yang-Mills theory, using the Gribov-Zwanziger framework with the horizon term. We find a family of solutions parameterized by one-parameter $w_R(0)$ which was overlooked so far by assuming to be zero implicitly. The family includes both the scaling and decoupling solutions, and specification of the parameter discriminates between them. In the Landau gauge we discuss a possible decoupling solution satisfying the Kugo-Ojima criterion for color confinement.
In this paper we address the issue of the non-perturbative quantization of Euclidean Yang-Mills theories in the Curci-Ferrari gauge. In particular, we construct a Refined Gribov-Zwanziger action for this gauge which takes into account the presence of gauge copies as well as the dynamical formation of dimension two condensates. This action enjoys a non-perturbative BRST symmetry recently proposed in \cite{Capri:2015ixa}. Finally, we give attention to the gluon propagator in different space-time dimensions.
Within the Hamiltonian approach in Coulomb gauge the ghost and gluon propagators are determined from a variational solution of the Yang-Mills Schroedinger equation showing both gluon and heavy quark confinement. The continuum results are in good agreement with lattice data. The ghost form factor is identified as the dielectric function of the Yang-Mills vacuum and a connection between the Gribov-Zwanziger scenario and the dual Meissner effect is established. The topological susceptibility is calculated.
We show that in SU(2) Yang-Mills theories a simple relation exists between lattice gluon propagators in Coulomb and Landau gauge and discuss the physical implications of such result. In particular, the realization of the Gribov-Zwanziger confinement mechanism in Coulomb gauge, linked to dual-superconductivity, would imply that the standard BRST charge must be ill defined non perturbatively. As a consequence, the Kugo-Ojima confinement criterion, which relies on BRST charge conservation beyond perturbation theory, would not be fulfilled.
The quantum Yang-Mills theory describing dual ($\tilde g$) and non-dual ($g$) charges and revealing the generalized duality symmetry was developed by analogy with the Zwanziger formalism in QED.
The infrared behavior of the gluon and ghost propagators is studied in SU(2) Euclidean Yang-Mills theory in the maximal Abelian gauge within the Gribov-Zwanziger framework. The nonperturbative effects associated with the Gribov copies and with the dimension two condensates are simultaneously encoded into a local and renormalizable Lagrangian. The resulting behavior turns out to be in good agreement with the lattice data.
We review the study of influence of the so-called soft BRST symmetry breaking within the Batalin-Vilkovisky (BV) formalism introduced in our papers [JHEP 1110 (2011) 043, arXiv:1108.4820 [hep-th], MPLA 27 (2012) 1250067, arXiv:1201.4720 [hep-th]] on gauge dependence of the effective action and vacuum expectation values of gauge invariant operators. We derive the Ward identities for generating functionals of Green's functions for a given theory with soft BRST symmetry breaking term being added to the quantum action and investigate theirs gauge dependence. It is strongly argued that gauge theori…
Some nonperturbative aspects of Euclidean Yang-Mills theories in four dimensions, quantized in the Landau gauge, are analytically studied. In particular, we investigate the dynamical mass generation for the gluons due to the presence of dimension two condensates. This study is performed in the framework of the local composite operator technique in the case of the Yang-Mills action as well as in the case of the Gribov-Zwanziger action. Further, an investigation of the Gribov ambiguities in the linear covariant gauges is presented.
In the lattice work by Miller [1,2] and in the work by Zwanziger [3] a linear growth of the trace anomaly for high temperatures was found in pure SU(2) and SU(3) Yang-Mills theories. These results show the remarkable property that the corresponding systems are strong interacting even at high temperatures. We show that within an analytical approach to Yang-Mills thermodynamics this linear rise is obtained and is directly connected to the presence of a temperature-dependent ground state, which describes (part of) the nonperturbative nature of the Yang-Mills system. Our predictions are in approxi…
Within the Hamiltonian approach to Yang-Mills theory in Coulomb gauge the ghost and gluon propagators are determined from a variational solution of the Yang-Mills Schroedinger equation showing both gluon and heavy quark confinement. The continuum results are in good agreement with lattice data. The ghost form factor is identified as the dielectric function of the Yang--Mills vacuum and the Gribov-Zwanziger confinement scenario is shown to imply the dual Meissner effect. The topological susceptibility is calculated.
The ghost and gluon propagator and the ghost-gluon and three-gluon vertex of two-dimensional SU(2) Yang-Mills theory in (minimal) Landau gauge are studied using lattice gauge theory. It is found that the results are qualitatively similar to the ones in three and four dimensions. The propagators and the Faddeev-Popov operator behave as expected from the Gribov-Zwanziger scenario. In addition, finite volume effects affecting these Green's functions are investigated systematically. The critical infrared exponents of the propagators, as proposed in calculations using stochastic quantization and Dy…
We prove that the Faddeev-Popov ghost dressing function in the Yang-Mills theory is non-zero and finite in the limit of vanishing momenta and hence the ghost propagator behaves like free in the deep infrared regime, within the Gribov-Zwanziger framework of the $D$-dimensional SU(N) Yang-Mills theory in the Landau gauge for any $D>2$. This result implies that the Kugo-Ojima color confinement criterion is not satisfied in its original form. We point out that the result crucially depends on the explicit form of the non-local horizon term adopted. The original Gribov prediction in the Landau gauge…
In previous works, we have shown that the Gribov-Zwanziger action, which implements the restriction of the domain of integration in the path integral to the Gribov region, generates extra dynamical effects which influence the infrared behaviour of the gluon and ghost propagator in SU(N) Yang-Mills gauge theories. The latter are in good agreement with the most recent lattice data obtained at large volumes, both in 4D and in 3D. More precisely, the gluon propagator is suppressed and does not vanish at zero momentum, while the ghost propagator keeps a 1/p^2 behaviour for p^2\approx0. Instead, in …
Massive Yang-Mills theory is known to be renormalizable in 1+1 dimensions. The gluon mass is introduced by coupling the gauge field to an SU(N) principal chiral nonlinear sigma model. The proof of renormalizability relies on the asymptotic freedom of the sigma model. However, renormalization forces the gluon mass to infinity. The continuum theory is in a confined phase rather than a Higgs phase. The physical excitations of the system are hadron-like bound states of sigma model particles. We calculate the massive spectrum of meson-like bound states analytically, using the exact S-matrix of the …
Gribov and Zwanziger proposed a modification of Yang-Mills theory in order to cure the Gribov copy problem. We employ field-dependent BRST transformations to generalize the Gribov-Zwanziger model from the Landau gauge to general R_xi gauges. The Gribov horizon functional is presented in explicit form, in both the non-local and local variants. Finally, we show how to reach any given gauge from the Landau one.

Within the refined Gribov-Zwanziger scenario for four-dimensional Yang-Mills theory in the Landau gauge, a gluon mass term is generated from the restriction of the gauge field configurations to the first Gribov region. Tissier and Wschebor have pointed out that simply adding a gluon mass term to the usual Faddeev-Popov action yields one-loop renormalization group improved gluon and ghost propagators which are in good agreement with the lattice data even in the infrared regime. In this work, we extend their analysis to several alternative renormalization schemes and show how the renormalization…
We study the infrared behavior of the effective Coulomb potential in lattice SU(3) Yang-Mills theory in the Coulomb gauge. We use lattices up to a size of 48^4 and three values of the inverse coupling, beta=5.8, 6.0 and 6.2. While finite-volume effects are hardly visible in the effective Coulomb potential, scaling violations and a strong dependence on the choice of Gribov copy are observed. We obtain bounds for the Coulomb string tension that are in agreement with Zwanziger's inequality relating the Coulomb string tension to the Wilson string tension.
We suggest a method of introducing the Gribov--Zwanziger horizon functional, $H$, for Yang--Mills theories by using the composite fields technique: $σ(ϕ)=H$. A different form of the same horizon functional in gauges $χ$ and $χ^{\prime }$ is taken into account via (gauged) field-dependent BRST transformations connecting quantum Yang--Mills actions in these gauges. We introduce generating functionals of Green's functions with composite fields and derive the corresponding Ward identities. A study of gauge dependence shows that the effective action in Yang--Mills theories with the composite field …
The gauge fixing procedure for N=1 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory (SYM) is proposed in the context of the stochastic quantization method (SQM). The stochastic gauge fixing, which was formulated by Zwanziger for Yang-Mills theory, is extended to SYM_4 in the superfield formalism by introducing a chiral and an anti-chiral superfield as the gauge fixing functions. It is shown that SQM with the stochastic gauge fixing reproduces the probability distribution of SYM_4, defined by the Faddeev-Popov prescription, in the equilibrium limit with an appropriate choice of the stochastic gauge fixing func…
We present a local setup for the recently introduced BRST-invariant formulation of Yang-Mills theories for linear covariant gauges that takes into account the existence of gauge copies à la Gribov and Zwanziger. Through the convenient use of auxiliary fields, including one of the Stueckelberg type, it is shown that both the action and the associated nilpotent BRST operator can be put in local form. Direct consequences of this fully local and BRST-symmetric framework are drawn from its Ward identities: (i) an exact prediction for the longitudinal part of the gluon propagator in linear covariant…
The local composite operator A^2 is added to the Zwanziger action, which implements the restriction to the Gribov region in Euclidean Yang-Mills theories in the Landau gauge. We prove the renormalizability of this action to all orders of perturbation theory. This allows to study the dimension two gluon condensate <A^2> by the local composite operator formalism when the restriction is taken into account. The effective action is evaluated at one-loop order in the MSbar scheme. We obtain explicit values for the Gribov parameter and for the mass parameter due to <A^2>, but the expansion parameter …
The vortex picture of confinement is employed to explore the signals of confinement in Yang-Mills Green functions. By using SU(2) lattice gauge theory, it has been well established that the removal of the center vortices from the lattice configurations results in the loss of confinement. The running coupling constant, the gluon and the ghost form factors are studied in Landau gauge for both cases, the full and the vortex removed theory. In the latter case, a strong suppression of the running coupling constant and the gluon form factor at low momenta is observed. At the same time, the singulari…
The Cucchieri-Mendes bounds for the gluon propagator are discussed for the four dimensional pure gauge SU(3) theory. Assuming a pure power law dependence on the inverse of the lattice volume, the lattice data gives a vanishing zero momentum gluon propagator in the infinite volume limit. Our investigation shows that this result is robust against variations of the lattice volumes and corrections to the power law. Moreover, it is consistent with the Gribov-Zwanziger horizon condition and contradicts the SU(2) analysis, which assumed the same type of dependence on the inverse of the volume. Our an…
We propose a mechanism displaying confinement, as defined by the behavior of the propagators, for 4 dimensional, N = 1 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in superfield formalism. In this work we intend to verify the possibility of extending the known Gribov problem of quantization of Yang-Mills theories and the implementation of a local action with auxiliary superfields like Gribov-Zwanziger approach to this problem.
The issue of the BRST symmetry in presence of the Gribov horizon is addressed in Euclidean Yang-Mills theories in the Landau gauge. The positivity of the Faddeev-Popov operator within the Gribov region enables us to convert the soft breaking of the BRST invariance exhibited by the Gribov-Zwanziger action into a non-local exact symmetry, displaying explicit dependence from the non-perturbative Gribov parameter. Despite its non-locality, this symmetry turns out to be useful in order to establish non-perturbative Ward identities, allowing us to evaluate the vacuum expectation value of quantities …
I briefly review the Gribov ambiguity of Yang-Mills theory, some of its features and attempts to control it, in particular the Gribov-Zwanziger proposal to restrict the functional integration in the Landau gauge to the Gribov region. This proposal is extended to an arbitrary gauge in such a way as to guarantee BRST invariance. The key insight is that any gauge change in the generating functional can be effected by a suitable field-dependent BRST transformation. I derive a simple analytic formula for the Jacobian of such a transformation, which yields an explicit recipe for the required transfo…
We examine the possibility that there may exist a logarithmic correction to the infrared asymptotic solution with power behavior which has recently been found for the gluon and Faddeev-Popov ghost propagators in the Landau gauge. We propose a new Ansatz to find a pair of solutions for the gluon and ghost form factors by solving the coupled Schwinger-Dyson equation under a simple truncation. This Ansatz enables us to derive the infrared and ultraviolet asymptotic solutions simultaneously and to understand why the power solution and the logarithmic solution is possible only in the infrared and u…
We consider Yang-Mills theories quantized in the Landau gauge in the presence of the Gribov horizon via the refined Gribov Zwanziger (RGZ) framework. As the restriction of the gauge path integral to the Gribov region is taken into account, the resulting gauge field propagators display a nontrivial infrared behavior, being very close to the ones observed in lattice gauge field theory simulations. In this work, we explore a higher correlation function in the Refined Gribov-Zwanziger theory: the ghost-gluon interaction vertex, at one-loop level. We show explicit compatibility with kinematical con…
In the previous works, we proposed the stochastic quantization method (SQM) approach to N=1 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory (SSYM). In four dimensions, in particular, we obtained the superfield Langevin equation and the corresponding Fokker-Planck equation which describe the underlying stochastic process manifestly preserving the global supersymmetry as well as the local gauge symmetry. The stochastic gauge fixing procedure was also applied to SSYM_4 in the superfield formalism. In this note, we apply the background field methd to SSYM_4 in terms of the stochastic action principle in SQM appr…
