We extend recent higher order concentration results in the discrete setting to include functions of possibly dependent variables whose distribution (on the product space) satisfies a logarithmic Sobolev inequality with respect to a difference operator that arises from Gibbs sampler type dynamics. Examples of such random variables include the Ising model on a graph with n nodes with general, but weak interactions, i.e. in the Dobrushin uniqueness regime, for which we prove concentration results of homogeneous polynomials, as well as random permutations, and slices of the hypercube with dynamics given by either the Bernoulli-Laplace or the symmetric simple exclusion processes.
We explore the question whether Lipschitz functions of random variables under various forms of negative correlation satisfy concentration bounds similar to McDiarmid's inequality for independent random variables. We prove such a concentration bound for random variables satisfying the condition of negative regression, correcting an earlier proof by Dubhashi and Ranjan.
We deduce sufficient conditions for the Central Limit Theorem (CLT) in the Lebesgue-Riesz space L(p) defined on some measure space for the sequence of centered random variables satisfying the strong mixing (Rosenblatt) condition. We investigate the asymptotical as well as non-asymptotical approach.
For moving average processes with random coefficients and heavy-tailed innovations that are weakly dependent in the sense of strong mixing and local dependence condition $D'$ we study joint functional convergence of partial sums and maxima. Under the assumption that all partial sums of the series of coefficients are a.s. bounded between zero and the sum of the series we derive a functional limit theorem in the space of $\mathbb{R}^{2}$-valued càdlàg functions on $[0, 1]$ with the Skorokhod weak $M_{2}$ topology.
Recently a functional limit theorem for sums of moving averages with random coefficients and i.i.d. heavy tailed innovations has been obtained under the assumption that all partial sums of the series of coefficients are a.s. bounded between zero and the sum of the series. The convergence takes place in the space $D[0,1]$ of càdlàg functions with the Skorohod $M_{2}$ topology. In this article we extend this result to the case when the innovations are weakly dependent in the sense of strong mixing and local dependence condition $D'$.
In this paper, we derive a central limit theorem for collections of weakly correlated random variables indexed by discrete metric spaces, where the correlation decays in the distance of the indices. The correlation structure we study depends solely on the separability of mixed moments. Our investigation yields a new proof for the CLT for $α$-mixing random variables, but also non-$α$-mixing random variables fit within our framework, such as MA($\infty$) processes. In particular, our results can be applied to ARMA($p,q$) process with independent white noise.
Using an alternative notion of entropy introduced by Datta, the max-entropy, we present a new simplified framework to study the minimizers of the specific free energy for random fields which are weakly dependent in the sense of Lewis, Pfister, and Sullivan. The framework is then applied to derive the variational principle for the loop $O(n)$ model and the Ising model in a random percolation environment in the nonmagnetic phase, and we explain how to extend the variational principle to similar models. To demonstrate the generality of the framework, we indicate how to naturally fit into it the v…
We investigate concentration properties of spectral measures of Hermitian random matrices with partially dependent entries. More precisely, let $X_n$ be a Hermitian random matrix of size $n\times n$ that can be split into independent blocks of the size at most $d_n=o(n^2)$. We prove that under some mild conditions on the distribution of the entries of $X_n$, the empirical spectral measure of $X_n$ concentrates around its mean. The main theorem is a strengthening of a recent result by Kemp and Zimmerman, where the size of blocks grows as $o(\log n)$. As an application, we are able to upgrade th…
We discuss sufficient conditions that guarantee the existence of asymptotic expansions for the Central Limit Theorem for weakly dependent random variables including observations arising from sufficiently chaotic dynamical systems like piece-wise expanding maps, and strongly ergodic Markov chains. We primarily use spectral techniques to obtain the results.
We introduce a new functional measure of tail dependence for weakly dependent (asymptotically independent) random vectors, termed weak tail dependence function. The new measure is defined at the level of copulas and we compute it for several copula families such as the Gaussian copula, copulas of a class of Gaussian mixture models, certain Archimedean copulas and extreme value copulas. The new measure allows to quantify the tail behavior of certain functionals of weakly dependent random vectors at the log scale.
The distribution of the sum of 1-dependent lattice vectors with supports on coordinate axes is approximated by a multivariate compound Poisson distribution and by signed compound Poisson measure. The local and $\ell_α$-norms are used to obtain the error bounds. The Heinrich method is used for the proofs.
We investigate concentration properties of functions of random vectors with values in the discrete cube, satisfying the stochastic covering property (SCP) or the strong Rayleigh property (SRP). Our result for SCP measures include subgaussian inequalities of bounded-difference type extending classical results by Pemantle and Peres and their counterparts for matrix-valued setting strengthening recent estimates by Aoun, Banna and Youssef. Under a stronger assumption of the SRP we obtain Bernstein-type inequalities for matrix-valued functions, generalizing recent bounds for linear combinations of …
In this paper, we study the asymptotic relation between the first crossing point and the last exit time for Gaussian order statistics which are generated by stationary weakly and strongly dependent Gaussian sequences. It is shown that the first crossing point and the last exit time are asymptotically independent and dependent for weakly and strongly dependent respectively. The asymptotic relation between the first exit time and the last exit time for stationary weakly and strongly dependent Gaussian Gaussian sequences are also obtained.
In this paper, we explore some links between transforms derived by Stein's method and concentration inequalities. In particular, we show that the stochastic domination of the zero bias transform of a random variable is equivalent to sub-Gaussian concentration. For this purpose a new stochastic order is considered. In a second time, we study the case of functions of slightly dependent light-tailed random variables. We are able to recover the famous McDiarmid type of concentration inequality for functions with the bounded difference property. Additionally, we obtain new concentration bounds when…

本文的目的是将Dacunha-Castelle and Fermin 2005,Dacunha-Castelle and Fermin
We give a short, self-contained, and elementary proof of the strong law of large numbers under a power law decay hypothesis for joint second moments. The result is related to the classical one by Lyons. However, we also provide a rate of convergence. Our proof does not use maximal inequalities and is instead inspired by the method of multiscale large versus small field decompositions in constructive quantum field theory.
Estimation of the $ϕ$-divergence between two unknown probability distributions using empirical data is a fundamental problem in information theory and statistical learning. We consider a multi-variate generalization of the data dependent partitioning method for estimating divergence between the two unknown distributions. Under the assumption that the distribution satisfies a power law of decay, we provide a convergence rate result for this method on the number of samples and hyper-rectangles required to ensure the estimation error is bounded by a given level with a given probability.
We consider spin-flip dynamics of configurations in $\{-1,1\}^{\mathbb{Z}^d}$, and study the time evolution of concentration inequalities. For "weakly interacting" dynamics we show that the Gaussian concentration bound is conserved in the course of time and it is satisfied by the unique stationary Gibbs measure. Next we show that, for a general class of translation-invariant spin-flip dynamics, it is impossible to evolve in finite time from a low-temperature Gibbs state towards a measure satisfying the Gaussian concentration bound. Finally, we consider the time evolution of the weaker uniform …
We establish concentration inequalities for Lipschitz functions of dependent random variables, whose dependencies are specified by forests. We also give concentration results for decomposable functions, improving Janson's Hoeffding-type inequality for the summation of graph-dependent bounded variables. These results extend McDiarmid's bounded difference inequality to the dependent cases.
The concentration of measure phenomenon may be summarized as follows: a function of many weakly dependent random variables that is not too sensitive to any of its individual arguments will tend to take values very close to its expectation. This phenomenon is most completely understood when the arguments are mutually independent random variables, and there exist several powerful complementary methods for proving concentration inequalities, such as the martingale method, the entropy method, and the method of transportation inequalities. The setting of dependent arguments is much less well unders…
