We establish the topology of the spin-singlet superconducting states in the bare hyperhoneycomb lattice and derive analytically the full phase diagram using only symmetry and topology in combination with simple energy arguments. The phase diagram is dominated by two states preserving time-reversal symmetry. We find that the line-nodal state dominating at low doping levels is topologically nontrivial and exhibits surface Majorana flat bands, which we show perfectly match the bulk-boundary correspondence using Berry phase approach. At higher doping levels we find a fully gapped state with trivial topology. By analytically calculating the topological invariant of the line nodes, we derive the critical point between the line-nodal and fully gapped states as a function of both pairing parameters and doping. We find that the line-nodal state is favored not only at lower doping levels but also if symmetry-allowed deformations of the lattice is present. Adding simple energy arguments we establish that a fully gapped state with broken time-reversal symmetry likely appears covering the actual phase transition. We find this time-reversal symmetry broken state to be topologically trivial, while we find an additional point nodal state at very low doping levels to have nontrivial topology with associated Fermi surface arcs. We eventually address the robustness of the phase diagram to generalized models also including adiabatic spin-orbit coupling, and show how all but the point nodal state are reasonably stable.
Transition metal dichalcogenides like 2H-NbSe2 in their two-dimensional (2D) form exhibit Ising superconductivity with the quasiparticle spins are firmly pinned in the direction perpendicular to the basal plane. This enables them to withstand exceptionally high magnetic fields beyond the Pauli limit for superconductivity. Using field-angle-resolved magnetoresistance experiments for fields rotated in the basal plane we investigate the field-angle dependence of the upper critical field (Hc2), which directly reflects the symmetry of the superconducting order parameter. We observe a six-fold nodal…
The superconducting gap is a pivotal character for a superconductor. While the cuprates and conventional phonon-mediated superconductors are characterized by distinct d-wave and s-wave pairing symmetry with nodal and nodeless gap distribution respectively, the superconducting gap distributions in iron-based superconductors are rather diversified. While nodeless gap distributions have been directly observed in Ba1-xKxFe2As2, BaFe2-xCoxAs2, KxFe2-ySe2, and FeTe1-xSex, the signatures of nodal superconducting gap have been reported in LaOFeP, LiFeP, KFe2As2, BaFe2(As1-xPx)2, BaFe2-xRuxAs2 and FeSe…
The organic materials (TMTSF)2X are unique unconventional superconductors with archetypal quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) electronic structures. Here, based on our comprehensive field-angle-resolved calorimetry of (TMTSF)2ClO4, we succeeded in mapping the nodal gap structure for the first time in Q1D systems, by discriminating between the Fermi wavevectors and Fermi velocities. In addition, the thermodynamic phase diagrams of (TMTSF)2ClO4 for all principal field directions are obtained. These findings, providing strong evidence of nodal spin-singlet superconductivity, serves as solid bases for fur…
We study the vortex bound states in three dimensional (3D) superconducting Dirac semimetals with time reversal symmetry. Assuming two Dirac points on the kz-axis and bulk s-wave superconductivity, with a quantum vortex line parallel to the z-direction, we find that the superconducting vortex line has a robust quasi-1D nodal phase. The nodal phase stems from the symmetry protected Dirac points in the normal state bands, and it can be characterized by a topological index (ν; n) at kz = 0 and kz = π, where νis the Z2 topological invariant for a 0D class-D system and n is the Z topological invaria…

Although more than twenty years have passed since the discovery of high temperature cuprate superconductivity, the identification of the superconducting order parameter is still under debate. Here, we show that the nodal gap component is the best candidate for the superconducting order parameter. It scales with the critical temperature $T_c$ over a wide doping range and displays a significant temperature dependence below $T_c$ in both the underdoped and the overdoped regimes of the phase diagram. In contrast, the antinodal gap component does not scale with $T_c$ in the underdoped side and appe…
In the present work, scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/STS) measurements were carried out on underdoped $\rm Bi_2Sr_{2-{\it x}}La_{\it x}CuO_{6+δ}$ and $\rm Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_{8+δ}$ to clarify the origin of the pseudogap, in particular, the inhomogeneous large pseudogap. The nodal part of a d-wave pairing gap, which is under no influence of the inhomogeneous large pseudogap, was also examined by relating the homogeneous bottom part of the STS gap to a nodal d-wave gap in momentum space. We report that the inhomogeneous large pseudogap in the antinodal region links to a two-dimensio…
A layered superconductor with a full pairing energy gap can be driven into a nodal superconducting (SC) state by inter-layer pairing when the SC state becomes more quasi-3D. We propose that this mechanism is responsible for the observed nodal behavior in a class of iron-based SCs. We show that the intra- and inter-layer pairings generally compete and the gap nodes develop on one of the {\em hole} Fermi surface pockets as they become larger in the iron-pnictides. Our results provide a natural explanation of the c-axis gap modulations and gap nodes observed by angle resolved photoemission spectr…
Nodal-line semimetals are topologically non-trivial states of matter featuring band crossings along a closed curve, i.e. nodal-line, in momentum space. Through a detailed analysis of the electronic structure, we show for the first time that the normal state of the superconductor NaAlSi, with a critical temperature of $T_{\rm c} \approx$ 7 K, is a nodal-line semimetal, where the complex nodal-line structure is protected by non-symmorphic mirror crystal symmetries. We further report on muon spin rotation experiments revealing that the superconductivity in NaAlSi is truly of bulk nature, featurin…
The London penetration depth, lambda{ab}(T), is reported for thin films of the electron-doped superconductor Pr{2-x}Ce{x}CuO{4-y} at three doping levels (x = 0.13, 0.15 and 0.17). Measurements down to 0.35 K were carried out using a tunnel diode oscillator with excitation fields applied both perpendicular and parallel to the conducting planes. For all samples and both field orientations lambda{ab}(T) showed power law behavior implying a superconducting gap with nodes.
Low temperature specific heat has been measured in superconductor $β$-FeS with T$_c$ = 4.55 K. It is found that the low temperature electronic specific heat C$_e$/T can be fitted to a linear relation in the low temperature region, but fails to be described by an exponential relation as expected by an s-wave gap. We try fittings to the data with different gap structures and find that a model with one or two nodal gaps can fit the data. Under a magnetic field, the field induced specific heat $Δγ$=[C$_e$(H)-C$_e$(0)]/T shows the Volovik relation $Δγ_e(H)\propto \sqrt{H}$, suggesting the presence …
We demonstrate that checkerboard magnet-superconductor hybrid systems possess a rich phase diagram exhibiting both strong topological superconducting (STSC) and topological nodal point superconducting (TNPSC) phases. We show that TNPSC phases exist both for ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic systems, yielding a plethora of qualitatively different edge mode structures. Checkerboard MSH systems also facilitate the emergence of STSC phases which can be induced even in the limit of vanishing magnetization. Our results provide a new path for the quantum engineering of topological superconducting p…
The newly discovered noncentrosymmetric superconductor ThCoC$_{2}$ exhibits numerous unconventional behavior in the field dependent heat capacity data. Here we present the first measurement of the gap symmetry of ThCoC$_{2}$ by muon spin rotation/relaxation $(μ$SR) measurements. Temperature dependence of the magnetic penetration depth measured using the transverse field $μ$SR measurement reveal the evidence of nodal pairing symmetry. To understand these findings, we carry out the calculations of superconducting pairing eigenvalue and eigenfunction symmetry due to the spin-fluctuation mechanism…
We report the electronic properties of superconductivity in the topological nodal-line semimetal PbTaSe$_2$. Angle-resolved photoemission measurements accompanied by band calculations confirmed the nodal-line band structure in the normal state of single crystalline PbTaSe$_2$. Resistivity, magnetic-susceptibility and specific heat measurements have also been performed on high-quality single crystals. We observed upward features and large anisotropy in upper critical field ($H_{c2}$) measured in-plane (H//\textbf{ab}) and out-plane (H//\textbf{c}), respectively. Especially, $H_{c2}$ measured in…
Motivated by the recent realization of the three-dimensional hyperhoneycomb and stripyhoneycomb lattices in lithium iridate (Li$_2$IrO$_3$), we study the possible spin-singlet superconducting states on the whole series of harmonic honeycomb lattices. Beginning with an isolated out-of-plane twist making the honeycomb lattice three-dimensional, we find that the chiral d$\pm$id state, well-known from the honeycomb lattice, is realized in the largest members of the series at low to intermediate doping. Along the twist, four chiral edge states form a two-dimensional dispersive band. Reducing the di…
The antisymmetrised two-electron functions are constructed for the point group T$_{h}$, i.e. the symmetry group of unconventional superconductor PrOs$% _{4}$Sb$_{14}$., and its subgroup D$_{2h}$.The nodal structure of these function depending on the wavevector group is investigated. Theoretical nodal structure of these functions made possible to explain the experimental nodal structure PrOs$_{4}$Sb$_{14}$. as a result of time-reversal symmetry violation.
A topological argument is presented for nodal structures of superconducting states with time-reversal invariance. A generic Hamiltonian which describes a quasiparticle in superconducting states with time-reversal invariance is derived, and it is shown that only line nodes are topologically stable in single-band descriptions of superconductivity. Using the time-reversal symmetry, we introduce a real structure and define topological numbers of line nodes. Stability of line nodes is ensured by conservation of the topological numbers. Line nodes in high-Tc materials, the polar state in p-wave pari…
Similar to chemical doping, pressure produces and stabilizes new phases of known materials, whose properties may differ greatly from those of their standard counterparts. Here, by considering a series of LaFeAs$_{1-x}$P$_x$O iron-pnictides synthesized under high-pressure high-temperature conditions, we investigate the simultaneous effects of pressure and isoelectronic doping in the 1111 family. Results of numerous macro- and microscopic technique measurements, unambiguously show a radically different phase diagram for the pressure-grown materials, characterized by the lack of magnetic order an…
CaSb2 is a topological nodal-line semimetal that becomes superconducting below 1.6 K, providing an ideal platform to investigate the interplay between topologically nontrivial electronic bands and superconductivity. In this work, we investigated the superconducting order parameter of CaSb2 by measuring its magnetic penetration depth change Δλ(T) down to 0.07 K, using a tunneling diode oscillator (TDO) based technique. Well inside the superconducting state, Δλ(T) shows an exponential activated behavior, and provides direct evidence for a nodeless superconducting gap. By analyzing the temperatur…
We report the magnetization, electrical resistivity, specific heat measurements and band structure calculations of layered superconductor SnTaS$_2$. The experiments are performed on single crystals grown by chemical vapor transport method. The resistivity and magnetic susceptibility indicate that SnTaS$_2$ is a type-II superconductor with transition temperature $T_c = 3$ K. The upper critical field ($H_{c2}$) shows large anisotropy for magnetic field parallel to $ab$ plane ($H//ab$) and $c$ axis ($H//c$), and the temperature dependence of $H_{c2}$ for $H//ab$ shows obvious unconventional upwar…
The superconducting ground state of the newly discovered superconductor Cs$_2$Cr$_3$As$_3$ with a quasi-one-dimensional crystal structure ($T_{\bf c}\sim$ 2.1(1) K) has been investigated using magnetization and muon-spin relaxation or rotation ($μ$SR), both zero-field (ZF) and transverse-field (TF), measurements. Our ZF $μ$SR measurements reveal the presence of spin fluctuations below 4 K and the ZF relaxation rate ($λ$) shows enhancement below $T_{\bf c}\sim$ 2.1 K, which might indicate that the superconducting state is unconventional. This observation suggests that the electrons are paired v…
We report on the Fermi surfaces and superconducting parameters of CaSb$_2$ single crystals (superconducting below $T_{\text{c}}\sim 1.8~\text{K}$) grown by the self-flux method. The frequency of de-Haas-van-Alphen and Shubnikov-de-Haas oscillations evidences a quasi-two-dimensional (quasi-2D) Fermi surface, consistent with one of the Fermi surfaces forming Dirac lines predicted by first-principles calculations. Measurements in the superconducting state reveal that CaSb$_2$ is close to a type-I superconductor with the Ginzburg-Landau (GL) parameter of around unity. The temperature dependence of…
How out-of-plane disorder affects the electronic structure has been investigated for the single-layer cuprates Bi$_2$Sr$_{1.6}$$Ln$$_{0.4}$CuO$_{6+δ}$ ($Ln$ = La, Nd, Gd) by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. We have observed that, with increasing disorder, while the Fermi surface shape and band dispersions are not affected, the quasi-particle width increases, the anti-nodal gap is enhanced and the superconducting gap in the nodal region is depressed. The results indicate that the superconductivity is significantly depressed by out-of-plane disorder through the enhancement of the anti-…
Coherence effects by the impurity scattering of Caroli--de Gennes--Matricon (CdGM) modes in a vortex for nodal topological superconductors have been studied. The coherence effects reflect a topological number defined on a particular momentum space avoiding the superconducting gap nodes. First, we analytically derived the eigenvalue and eigenfunction of the CdGM modes, including the zero-energy modes, in a nodal topological superconducting state without impurities, where we focused on a possible superconducting state of UPt$_3$ as an example. Then, we studied impurity effects on the CdGM modes …
Topological superconductors are an intriguing and elusive quantum phase, characterized by topologically protected gapless surface/edge states residing in a bulk superconducting gap, which hosts Majorana fermions. Unfortunately, all currently known topological superconductors have a very low transition temperature, limiting experimental measurements of Majorana fermions. Here we discover the existence of a topological Dirac-nodal-line state in a well-known conventional high-temperature superconductor, MgB2. First-principles calculations show that the Dirac-nodal-line structure exhibits a unique…
The theoretical model for the quasiparticle self-energy in HTSC is proposed, which is based on the forward scattering peak in the electron-phonon (EPI) interaction. By assuming that EPI dominates, the model explains qualitatively and in a consistent way the recent ARPES results. The latter show a kink in the normal state quasiparticle energy at 70 meV in the nodal direction, which is (surprisingly) not shifted in the superconducting (SC) state, while the singularity at 40 meV in the anti-nodal direction is shifted by the SC gap. The model predicts a dip-hump structure in the spectral function,…
The issue of whether the quantum critical point (QCP) is hidden inside unconventional superconductors is a matter of hot debate. Although a prominent experiment on London penetration depth has demonstrated the existence of the QCP in the isovalent-doped iron-based superconductor BaFe$_2$(As$_{1-x}$P$_x$)$_2$, with the observation of a sharp peak in the penetration depth in the vicinity of the disappearance of magnetic order at zero temperature, the nature of such an emerging QCP remains unclear. Here, we provide a unique picture to understand well the phenomena of the QCP based on the framewor…
ZrSiS was recently shown to be a new material with topologically non-trivial band structure which exhibits multiple Dirac nodes and a robust linear band dispersion up to an unusually high energy of 2\,eV. Such a robust linear dispersion makes the topological properties of ZrSiS insensitive to perturbations like carrier doping or lattice distortion. Here we show that a novel superconducting phase with a remarkably high $T_c$ of 7.5\,K can be induced in single crystals of ZrSiS by a non-superconducting metallic tip of Ag. From first-principles calculations we show that the observed superconducti…
Using a radio frequency tunnel diode oscillator technique, we measured the temperature dependence of the in-plane London penetration depth $Δλ_{ab}(T)$ in Fe$_{1+y}$(Te$_{1-x}$Se$_{x})$ single crystals, down to temperatures as low as 50 mK. A significant number of samples, with nominal Se concentration $x$=0.36, 0.40, 0.43 and 0.45 respectively, were studied and in many cases we found that $Δλ_{ab}(T)$ shows an upturn below 0.7 K, indicative of a paramagnetic type contribution. After subtracting the magnetic background, the low temperature behavior of penetration depth is best described by a p…
We study impurity scattering in the normal and d-wave superconducting states of line nodal semimetals and show that, due to additional scattering phase space available for impurities on the surface, the quasiparticle interference pattern acquires an extended character instead of a discrete collection of delta function peaks. Moreover, using the T-matrix formalism, we demonstrate that the conventional behavior of a scalar impurity in a d-wave superconductor breaks down on the surface of a line nodal semimetal in the quasi flat band limit.
We have measured the complex conductivity of a BSCCO(2212) thin film between 0.2 and 1.0 THz. We find the conductivity in the superconducting state to be well described as the sum of contributions from quasiparticles, the condensate, and order parameter fluctuations which draw 30% of the spectral weight from the condensate. An analysis based on this decomposition yields a quasiparticle scattering rate on the order of k_(B)*T/(hbar) for temperatures below Tc.
This work presents a quantitative theoretical study of the sound attenuation in the unconventional multiband superconductor Sr2RuO4 below the superconducting transition temperature Tc. Sound attenuation in this material is shown to have the remarkable property of being able to identify different nodal structures on different bands. The nodal structures on the γband on the one hand, and on the αand βbands on the other, are both found to be characterized by the existence of point nodes, but are significantly different in their quantitative aspects.
Identifying the superconducting (SC) gap structure of the iron-based high-temperature superconductors (Fe-HTS's) remains a key issue for the understanding of superconductivity in these materials. In contrast to other unconventional superconductors, in the Fe-HTS's both $d$-wave and extended s-wave pairing symmetries are close in energy, with the latter believed to be generally favored over the former. Probing the proximity between these very different SC states and identifying experimental parameters that can tune them, are of central interest. Here we report high-pressure muon spin rotation e…
Studying the nodal quasiparticles in superconducting cuprates by photoemission with highly improved momentum resolution, we show that a new "kink" feature in the scattering rate is a key to uncover the nature of electron correlations in these compounds. Our data provide evidence that the main doping independent contribution to the scattering can be well understood in terms of the conventional Fermi liquid model, while the additional doping dependent contribution has a magnetic origin. This sheds doubt on applicability of a phonon-mediated pairing mechanism to high temperature superconductors.
We study the properties of a quasi-one dimensional superconductor which consists of an alternating array of two inequivalent chains. This model is a simple charicature of a locally striped high temperature superconductor, and is more generally a theoretically controllable system in which the superconducting state emerges from a non-Fermi liquid normal state. Even in this limit, ``d-wave like'' order parameter symmetry is natural, but the superconducting state can either have a complete gap in the quasi-particle spectrum, or gapless ``nodal'' quasiparticles. We also find circumstances in which …
Simultaneous transport and tunneling spectroscopy of moiré graphene: Distinct observation of the superconducting gap and signatures of nodal superconductivity
For high-Tc superconductors, clarifying the role and origin of the pseudogap is essential for understanding the pairing mechanism. Among the various models describing the pseudogap, the preformed Cooper pair model is a potential candidate. Therefore, we present experimental evidence for the preformed Cooper pair model by studying the pseudogap spectrum observed in the optical conductivity of a Ca10(Pt4As8)(Fe2As2)5 (Tc = 34.6 K) single crystal. We observed a clear pseudogap structure in the optical conductivity and observed its temperature dependence. In the superconducting (SC) state, one SC …
The superconducting equivalent of giant magnetoresistance, involves placing a thin-film superconductor between two ferromagnetic layers. A change of magnetization-alignment in such a superconducting spin-valve from parallel (P) to antiparallel (AP) creates a positive shift in the superconducting transition temperature (ΔTc) due to an interplay of the magnetic exchange energy and the superconducting condensate. The magnitude of ΔTc scales inversely with the superconductor thickness (dS) and is zero when dS exceeds the superconducting coherence length (ξ) as predicted by de Gennes. Here, we repo…
Basic experimental facts related to ARPES, tunnelling, optics ad neutron scattering measurements are discussed. They give evidence for the relevance of the electron-phonon interaction (EPI) in pairing mechanism of HTSC cuprates. A controllable theory for strong correlations and their effects on EPI is discussed which is based on the 1/N expansion method in the t-J model. Strong correlations renormalize EPI and other charge-fluctuation properties (by including nonmagnetic impurity scattering) and the forward scattering peak (FSP) appears in the effective interactions. Pronounced FSP in EPI of H…
We report the superconductivity of PbTaS2 single crystals with the centrosymmetric structure. The systematic measurements of magnetization, electric transport and specific heat indicate that PbTaS2 is a weakly coupled type-II superconductor with transition temperature Tc = 2.6 K. Furthermore, the band structure calculations predicted four nodal lines near the Fermi energy with drumhead-like surface states, suggesting centrosymmetric PbTaS2 is a candidate of topological nodal line semimetals. These results demonstrate that PbTaS2 may open up another avenue for further exploring the properties o…
A nodeless $d$-wave state is likely in superconducting monolayer FeSe on SrTiO$_3$. The lack of nodes is surprising but has been shown to be a natural consequence of the observed small interband spin-orbit coupling. Here we examine the evolution from a nodeless state to the nodal state as this spin-orbit coupling is increased from a topological perspective. We show that this evolution depends strongly on the orbital content of the superconducting degrees of freedom. In particular, there are two $d$-wave solutions, which we call orbitally trivial and orbitally nontrivial. In both cases, the nod…
In heavy-fermion superconductor Ce$_{1-x}$Yb$_x$CoIn$_5$ system, Yb doping was reported to cause a possible change from nodal $d$-wave superconductivity to a fully gapped $d$-wave molecular superfluid of composite pairs near $x \approx$ 0.07 (nominal value $x_{nom}$ = 0.2). Here we present systematic thermal conductivity measurements on Ce$_{1-x}$Yb$_x$CoIn$_5$ ($x$ = 0.013, 0.084, and 0.163) single crystals. The observed finite residual linear term $κ_0/T$ is insensitive to Yb doping, verifying the universal heat conduction of nodal $d$-wave superconducting gap in Ce$_{1-x}$Yb$_x$CoIn$_5$. Si…
NaAlSi is an sp electron superconductor crystallizing in a layered structure of the anti-PbFCl type with a relatively high transition temperature Tc of ~7 K. Recent electronic state calculations revealed the presence of topological nodal lines in the semimetallic band structure, which attracted much attention owing to the superconductivity. However, experimental investigation remained limited because of the lack of single crystals. Here, we successfully prepared single crystals of NaAlSi by a Na-Ga flux method and characterized their superconducting and normal-state properties through electric…
How to determine the symmetry of the superconducting order parameter is one of the important issues in novel superconductors, which include charge conjugated organic superconductors. We have proposed that the angular dependence of the thermal conductivity in a planar magnetic field provides a new window to look at the symmetry of the order parameter. After a brief summary of the quasiclassical approach we describe how the symmetry of the superconducting order parameter in Sr$_2$RuO$_4$, CeCoIn$_5$ and $κ$-(ET)$_2$Cu(NCS)$_2$ is determined. Also in some of experiments the phononic thermal condu…
We report on laser-excited angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) in the electron-doped cuprate Sm(1.85)Ce(0.15)CuO(4-d). The data show the existence of a nodal hole-pocket Fermi-surface both in the normal and superconducting states. We prove that its origin is long-range antiferromagnetism by an analysis of the coherence factors in the main and folded bands. This coexistence of long-range antiferromagnetism and superconductivity implies that electron-doped cuprates are two-Fermi-surface superconductors. The measured superconducting gap in the nodal hole-pocket is compatible with a …
The possible superconducting states of strontium ruthenate (Sr$_2$RuO$_4$) are organized into irreducible representations of the point group $D_{4h}$, with a special emphasis on nodes occurring within the superconducting gap. Our analysis covers the cases with and without spin-orbit coupling and takes into account the possibility of inter-orbital pairing within a three-band, tight-binding description of Sr$_2$RuO$_4$. No dynamical treatment if performed: we are confining ourselves to a group-theoretical analysis. The case of uniaxial deformations, under which the point group symmetry is reduce…
Investigating the pressure dependence of the superconducting (SC) transition temperature $T_{\rm c}$ is crucial for understanding the SC mechanism. Herein, we report on the pressure dependence of $T_{\rm c}$ in the nonmagnetic topological line-nodal material CaSb$_2$, based on measurements of electric resistance and alternating current magnetic susceptibility. $T_{\rm c}$ initially increases with increasing pressure and peaks at $\sim$ 3.1~GPa. With a further increase in pressure, $T_{\rm c}$ decreases and finally becomes undetectable at 5.9~GPa. Because no signs of phase transition or Lifshit…
We measured the low-temperature thermal conductivity of a new layered superconductor with quasi-one-dimensional characteristics, the ternary telluride Ta$_4$Pd$_3$Te$_{16}$ with transition temperature $T_c \approx$ 4.3 K. The significant residual linear term of thermal conductivity in zero magnetic field and its rapid field dependence provide evidences for nodes in the superconducting gap. By measuring resistivity under pressures, we reveal a superconducting dome in the temperature-pressure phase diagram. The existence of gap nodes and superconducting dome suggests unconventional superconducti…
We have investigated the superconducting gap of optimally doped Ba(Fe$_{0.65}$Ru$_{0.35}$)$_2$As$_2$ by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (APRES) using bulk-sensitive 7 eV laser and synchrotron radiation. It was found that the gap is isotropic in the $k_x$-$k_y$ plane both on the electron and hole Fermi surfaces (FSs). The gap magnitudes of two resolved hole FSs show similar $k_z$ dependences and decrease as $k_z$ approaches $\sim$ 2$π$/$c$ (i.e., around the Z point) unlike the other Fe-based superconductors reported so far, where the superconducting gap of only one hole FS shows a str…
The in-plane thermal conductivity of iron-based superconductor RbFe$_2$As$_2$ single crystal ($T_c \approx$ 2.1 K) was measured down to 100 mK. In zero field, the observation of a significant residual linear term $κ_0/T$ = 0.65 mW K$^{-2}$ cm$^{-1}$ provides clear evidence for nodal superdonducting gap. The field dependence of $κ_0/T$ is similar to that of its sister compound CsFe$_2$As$_2$ with comparable residual resistivity $ρ_0$, and lies between the dirty and clean KFe$_2$As$_2$. These results suggest that the (K,Rb,Cs)Fe$_2$As$_2$ serial superconductors have a common nodal gap structure.
Distinguishing nodal and nonunitary superconductivity in quasiparticle interference of an Ising superconductor with Rashba spin-orbit coupling: an example of NbSe$_2$
NaAlSi is a quasi-two-dimensional semimetal with superconductivity below Tc = 6.8 K and a band structure characterized by nodal lines near the Fermi level and potential topological surface states. Electrical resistivity measurements on its superconducting transitions in magnetic fields were made using plate-like single crystals. In the magnetic field-temperature phase diagram, we observed a substantial reduction in resistivity in a pre-transitional zone above the bulk superconducting regime only when the magnetic fields were perpendicular to the plane, rather than parallel to it. Significant s…
Doped strong topological insulators are one of the most promising candidates to realize a fully gapped three-dimensional topological superconductor (TSC). In this letter, we revisit this system and reveal a possibility for higher-order topology which was previously missed. We find that over a finite-range of doping, the Fu-Berg superconducting pairing can give rise to both Majorana surface states, and nodal hinge states. Interestingly, we observe the coexistence of surface and hinge modes in the superconducting state only when there are both bulk and surface Fermi-surfaces in the normal state.…
We report an investigation of the London penetration depth $Δλ(T)$ on single crystals of the layered superconductor Ta$_4$Pd$_3$Te$_{16}$, where the crystal structure has quasi-one-dimensional characteristics. A linear temperature dependence of $Δλ(T)$ is observed for $T\ll T_c$, in contrast to the exponential decay of fully gapped superconductors. This indicates the existence of line nodes in the superconducting energy gap. A detailed analysis shows that the normalized superfluid density $ρ_s(T)$, which is converted from $Δλ(T)$, can be well described by a multigap scenario, with nodes in one…
We report the systematic investigation of the specific heat of the noncentrosymmetric supercon- ductor Li2(Pd1-xPtx)3B as a function of x. There is a large deviation of the phononic specific heat from the conventional Debye specific heat for Pt-rich samples. In contrast with the fully-gapped con- ventional behavior for small x, a power-law temperature dependence of the electronic specific heat is observed even at x = 0.5. This results manifest a strongly-anisotropic or nodal superconducting gap even at x = 0.5 and a nodal superconducting gap for x >~ 0.9.
We show that finite angular momentum pairing chiral superconductors on the triangular lattice have point zeroes in the complex gap function. A topological quantum phase transition takes place through a nodal superconducting state at a specific carrier density $x_c$ where the normal state Fermi surface crosses the isolated zeros. For spin singlet pairing, we show that the second nearest neighbor $d+id$-wave pairing can be the dominant pairing channel. The gapless critical state at $x_c\simeq0.25$ has six Dirac points and is topologically nontrivial with a $T^3$ spin relaxation rate below $T_c$.…
Low-temperature thermal conductivity measurements were performed on single crystal of PbTaSe$_2$, a noncentrosymmetric superconductor with topological bulk nodal lines in the electronic band structure. It is found that the residual linear term $κ_0/T$ is negligible in zero magnetic field. Furthermore, the field dependence of $κ_0/T$ exhibits a clear "$S$"-shape curve. These results suggest that PbTaSe$_2$ has multiple nodeless superconducting gaps. Therefore, the spin-triplet state with gap nodes does not play an important role in this noncentrosymmetric superconductor with strong spin-orbital…
