In this work, we introduce the class of $h$-${\rm{MN}}$-convex functions by generalizing the concept of ${\rm{MN}}$-convexity and combining it with $h$-convexity. Namely, Let $I,J$ be two intervals subset of $\left(0,\infty\right)$ such that $\left(0,1\right)\subseteq J$ and $\left[a,b\right]\subseteq I$. Consider a non-negative function $h: (0,\infty)\to \left(0,\infty\right)$ and let ${\rm{M}}:\left[0,1\right]\to \left[a,b\right] $ $(0<a<b)$ be a Mean function given by ${\rm{\rm{M}}}\left(t\right)={\rm{\rm{M}}}\left( {h(t);a,b} \right)$; where by ${\rm{\rm{M}}}\left( {h(t);a,b} \right)$ we mean one of the following functions: $A_h\left( {a,b} \right):=h\left( {1 - t} \right)a + h(t) b$, $G_h\left( {a,b} \right)=a^{h(1-t)} b^{h(t)}$ and $H_h\left( {a,b} \right):=\frac{ab}{h(t) a + h\left( {1 - t} \right)b} = \frac{1}{A_h\left( {\frac{1}{a},\frac{1}{b}} \right)}$; with the property that ${\rm{\rm{M}}}\left( {h(0);a,b} \right)=a$ and ${\rm{M}}\left( {h(1);a,b} \right)=b$.
A function $f : I \to \left(0,\infty\right)$ is said to be $h$-${\rm{\rm{MN}}}$-convex (concave) if the inequality \begin{align*} f \left({\rm{M}}\left(t;x, y\right)\right) \le (\ge) \, {\rm{N}}\left(h(t);f (x), f (y)\right), \end{align*} holds for all $x,y \in I$ and $t\in [0,1]$, where M and N are two mean functions. In this way, nine classes of $h$-${\rm{MN}}$-convex functions are established and some of their analytic properties are explored and investigated. Characterizations of each type are given. Various Jensen's type inequalities and their converses are proved.
Motivated by the characterization theorem about the Jensen convexity of quasiarithmetic means obtained by the authors in 2021, our main goal is to establish a characterization of the Jensen convexity of quasideviation as well as of Bajraktarević means without any additional and unnatural regularity assumptions.
In recent papers the convexity of quasiarithmetic means was characterized under twice differentiability assumptions. One of the main goals of this paper is to show that the convexity or concavity of a quasiarithmetic mean implies the the twice continuous differentiability of its generator. As a consequence of this result, we can characterize those quasiarithmetic means which admit a lower convex and upper concave quasiarithmetic envelop.
We develop a new framework for the Jensen-type inequalities that allows us to deal with functions not necessarily convex and Borel measures not necessarily positive.
The present paper is devoted to the study of Jensen-Mercer-type inequalities. Our results generalize and improve some earlier results in the literature.
The main purpose of this paper is to introduce various convexity concepts in terms of a positive Chebyshev system $ω$ and give a systematic investigation of the relations among them. We generalize a celebrated theorem of Bernstein--Doetsch to the setting of $ω$-Jensen convexity. We also give sufficient conditions for the existence of discontinuous $ω$-Jensen affine functions. The concept of Wright convexity is extended to the setting of Chebyshev systems, as well, and it turns out to be an intermediate convexity property between $ω$-convexity and $ω$-Jensen convexity. For certain Chebyshev sys…
Inequalities play an important role in pure and applied mathematics. In particular, Jensen's inequality, one of the most famous inequalities, plays a main role in the study of the existence and uniqueness of initial and boundary value problems for differential equations. In this work we prove some new Jensen-type inequalities for $m$-convex functions, and we apply them to generalized Riemann-Liouville-type integral operators. It is remarkable that, if we consider $m=1$, we obtain new inequalities for convex functions.
In this paper we develop a general method for improving Jensen-type inequalities for convex and, even more generally, for piecewise convex functions. Our main result relies on the linear interpolation of a convex function. As a consequence, we obtain improvements of some recently established Young-type inequalities. Finally, our method is also applied to matrix case. In such a way we obtain improvements of some important matrix inequalities known from the literature.
In this paper we investigate continuity properties of functions $f:\mathbb{R}_+\to\mathbb{R}_+$ that satisfy the $(p,q)$-Jensen convexity inequality $$ f\big(H_p(x,y)\big)\leq H_q(f(x),f(y)) \qquad(x,y>0), $$ where $H_p$ stands for the $p$th power (or Hölder) mean. One of the main results shows that there exist discontinuous multiplicative functions that are $(p,p)$-Jensen convex for all positive rational number $p$. A counterpart of this result states that if $f$ is $(p,p)$-Jensen convex for all $p\in P\subseteq\mathbb{R}_+$, where $P$ is a set of positive Lebesgue measure, then $f$ must be c…
In this article we give some improvements and generalizations of the famous Jensen's and Jensen-Mercer inequalities for twice differentiable functions, where convexity property of the target function is not assumed in advance. They represents a refinement of these inequalities in the case of convex/concave functions with numerous applications in Theory of Means and Probability and Statistics.
In this paper, we investigate properties of set-valued mappings that establish connection between the values of this map at two arbitrary points of the domain and the value at their midpoint. Such properties are, for instance, Jensen convexity/concavity, $K$-Jensen convexity/concavity (where $K$ is the set of nonnegative elements of an ordered vector space), and approximate/strong $K$-Jensen convexity/concavity. Assuming weak but natural regularity assumptions on the set-valued map, our main purpose is to deduce the convexity/concavity consequences of these properties in the appropriate sense.…
It is well-known that if a real valued function acting on a convex set satisfies the $n$-variable Jensen inequality, for some natural number $n\geq 2$, then, for all $k\in\{1,\dots, n\}$, it fulfills the $k$-variable Jensen inequality as well. In other words, the arithmetic mean and the Jensen inequality (as a convexity property) are both reducible. Motivated by this phenomenon, we investigate this property concerning more general means and convexity notions. We introduce a wide class of means which generalize the well-known means for arbitrary linear spaces and enjoy a so-called reducibility …
In this paper, we obtain some new inequalities for functions whose second derivatives' absolute value is s-convex and log-convex. Also, we give some applications for numerical integration.
In this paper we point out a converse result of the celebrated Jensen inequality for differentiable convex mappings of several variables and apply it to counterpart well-known analytic inequalities. Applications to Shannon's and Renyi's entropy mappings are also given.
We discuss a rather general condition under which the inequality of Jensen works for certain convex combinations of points not all in the domain of convexity of the function under attention. Based on this fact, an extension of the Hardy-Littlewood-Pólya theorem of majorization is proved and new insight is given into the problem of risk aversion in mathematical finance.
In the paper, the authors establish some new Hermite-Hadamard type inequalities for functions whose first derivatives are of convexity and apply these inequalities to construct inequalities of special means.
In this paper, a new class of convex functions as a generalization of convexity which is called (h-m)-convex functions and some properties of this class is given. We also prove some Hadamard's type inequalities.
We have made some new definitions using the inequalities of Young' and Nesbitt'. And we have given some features of these new definitions. After, we established new Hadamard type inequalities for convex functions in the Young and Nesbitt sense.
Mass transportation problems appear in various areas of mathematics, their solutions involving cost convex potentials. Fenchel duality also represents an important concept for a wide variety of optimization problems, both from the theoretical and the computational viewpoints. We drew a parallel to the classical theory of convex functions by investigating the cost convexity and its connections with the usual convexity. We give a generalization of Jensen's inequality for cost convex functions.
In this study, we establish and generalize some inequalities of Hadamard and Simpson type based on s-convexity in the second sense. Some applications to special means of positive real numbers are also given and generalized. Examples are given to show the results. The results generalize the integral inequalities in [11] and [13].
In this paper, we study some properties such as the monotonicity, logarithmically complete monotonicity, logarithmic convexity, and geometric convexity, of the combinations of gamma function and power function. The results we obtain generalize some related known results for parameters with specific values.
In this paper, we establish some new inequalities for class of SX(h,I) convex functions which are supermultiplicative or superadditive and nonnegative. And we also give some applications for special means.
Some new Hermite-Hadamard's inequalities for h-convex functions are proved, generalizing and unifying a number of known results. Some new applications for special Means of real numbers are also derived.
A considerable amount of literature in the theory of inequality is devoted to the study of Jensen's and Young's inequality. This article presents a number of new inequalities involving the log-convex functions and the geometrically convex functions. As their consequences, we derive the refinements for Young's inequality and Jensen's inequality. In addition, the operator Jensen's type inequality is also developed for conditioned two functions. Utilizing these new inequalities, we investigate the operator inequalities related to the relative operator entropy.
In this paper, by using Jensen's inequality and Chebyshev integral inequality, some generalizations and new refined Hardy type integral inequalities are obtained. In addition, the corresponding reverse relation are also proved.
By making use of the familiar Mathieu series and its generalizations, the authors derive a number of new integral representations and present a systematic study of probability density functions and probability distributions associated with some generalizations of the Mathieu series. In particular, the mathematical expectation, variance and the characteristic functions, related to the probability density functions of the considered probability distributions are derived. As a consequence, some interesting inequalities involving complete monotonicity and log-convexity are derived.
Some mathematical inequalities among various weighted means are studied. Inequalities on weighted logarithmic mean are given. Besides, the gap in Jensen's inequality is studied as a convex function approach. Consequently, some non-trivial inequalities on means are given. Some operator inequalities are also shown.
We have recently established some integral inequalities for convex functions via the Hermite-Hadamard's inequalities. In continuation here, we also establish some interesting new integral inequalities for convex functions via the Hermite--Hadamard's inequalities and Jensen's integral inequality. Useful applications involving special means are also included.
Let R+ = (0,infinity) and let M be the family of all mean values of two numbers in R+ (some examples are the arithmetic, geometric, and harmonic means). Given m1, m2 in M, we say that a function f : R+ to R+ is (m1,m2)-convex if f(m1(x,y)) < or = m2(f(x),f(y)) for all x, y in R+ . The usual convexity is the special case when both mean values are arithmetic means. We study the dependence of (m1,m2)-convexity on m1 and m2 and give sufficient conditions for (m1,m2)-convexity of functions defined by Maclaurin series. The criteria involve the Maclaurin coefficients. Our results yield a class of new…
In the paper, we introduce the generalized convex function on fractal sets of real line numbers and study the properties of the generalized convex function. Based on these properties, we establish the generalized Jensen inequality and generalized Hermite-Hadamard inequality. Furthermore, some applications are given.
In this present paper, we establish the log-convexity and Turán type inequalities of extended $(p,q)$-beta functions. Also, we present the log-convexity, the monotonicity and Turán type inequalities for extended $(p,q)$-confluent hypergeometric function by using the inequalities of extended $(p,q)$-beta functions.
In this paper, the connection between the functional inequalities $$ f\Big(\frac{x+y}{2}\Big)\leq\frac{f(x)+f(y)}{2}+α_J(x-y) \qquad (x,y\in D)$$ and $$ \int_0^1f\big(tx+(1-t)y\big)ρ(t)dt \leqλf(x)+(1-λ)f(y) +α_H(x-y) \qquad (x,y\in D)$$ is investigated, where $D$ is a convex subset of a linear space, $f:D\to\R$, $α_H,α_J:D-D\to\R$ are even functions, $λ\in[0,1]$, and $ρ:[0,1]\to\R_+$ is an integrable nonnegative function with $\int_0^1ρ(t)dt=1$.
This paper studies the log-convexity of the extended beta functions. As a consequence, Turán-type inequalities are established. The monotonicity, log-convexity, log-concavity of extended hypergeometric functions are deduced by using the inequalities on extended beta functions,. The particular cases of those results also gives the Turán-type inequalities for extended confluent and extended Gaussian hypergeometric functions. Some reverse of Turán-type inequalities also derived.
In this paper our aim is to present the completely monotonicity and convexity properties for the Wright function. As consequences of these results, we present some functional inequalities. Moreover, we derive the monotonicity and log-convexity results for the generalized Wright functions. As applications, we present several new inequalities (like Turán type inequalities) and we prove some geometric properties for four--parametric Mittag--Leffler functions.
In this paper, we establish some Hadamard-type inequalities based on coordinated quasi-convexity. Also we define a new mapping associated to coordinated convexity and we prove some properties of this mapping.
In this paper, we not only give the extensions of the results given in [7] by Gill et al. for log-convex functions, but also obtain some new Hadamard type inequalities for log-convex, m-convex and (alpha,m)-convex functions.
This note contains sufficient conditions for the probability density function of an arbitrary continuous univariate distribution, supported on $(0,\infty),$ such that the corresponding Mills ratio to be reciprocally convex (concave). To illustrate the applications of the main results, the reciprocal convexity (concavity) of Mills ratio of the gamma distribution is discussed in details.
We establish conditions for the discrete versions of logarithmic concavity and convexity of the higher order regularized basic hypergeometric function with respect simultaneous shift of all its parameters. For a particular case of Heine's basic hypergeometric function we prove logarithmic concavity and convexity with respect to the bottom parameter. We further establish a linearization identity for the generalized Turánian formed by a particular case of Heine's basic hypergeometric function. Its $q=1$ case also appears to be new.
The paper studies logarithmic convexity and concavity of the generalized hypergeometric function with respect to simultaneous shift of several parameters. We use integral representations and properties of Meijer's $G$ function to prove log-convexity. When all parameters are shifted we use series manipulations to examine the power series coefficients of the generalized Turánian formed by the generalized hypergeometric function. In cases when all zeros of the generalized hypergeometric function are real, we further explore the consequences of the extended Laguerre inequalities and formulate a co…
In this study, we obtain some convexity, monotonicity and additivity properties as well as some inequalities involving the Nielsen's $β$-function which was introduced in 1906.
In this paper, mainly using the convexity of the function $\frac{a^x-b^x}{c^x-d^x}$ and convexity or concavity of the function $\ln\frac{a^x-b^x}{c^x-d^x}$ on the real line, where $a>b\geq c>d>0$ are fixed real numbers, we obtain some important relations between various important means of these numbers. Also, we apply the obtained results to Ky Fan type inequalities and get some new refinements.
In this study, the author establish some inequalities of Hadamard like based on convex and s-convexity in the second sense. Some applications to special means of positive real numbers are also given.
The radius of convexity of two normalized Bessel functions of the first kind are determined in the case when the order is between $-2$ and $-1.$ Our methods include the minimum principle for harmonic functions, the Hadamard factorization of some Dini functions, properties of the zeros of Dini functions via Lommel polynomials and some inequalities for complex and real numbers.
We prove some "power" generalizations of Marcus-Lopes-style (including McLeod and Bullen) concavity inequalities for elementary symmetric polynomials, and convexity inequalities (of McLeod and Baston) for complete homogeneous symmetric polynomials. Finally, we present sundry concavity results for elementary symmetric polynomials, of which the main result is a concavity theorem that among other implies a well-known log-convexity result of Muir (1972/74) for positive definite matrices.
We obtain the classical Hanner inequalities by the Bellman function method. These inequalities give sharp estimates for the moduli of convexity of Lebesgue spaces. Easy ideas from differential geometry help us to find the Bellman function using neither "magic guesses" nor calculations.
In the paper, the authors review several refinements of Young's integral inequality via several mean value theorems, such as Lagrange's and Taylor's mean value theorems of Lagrange's and Cauchy's type remainders, and via several fundamental inequalities, such as Čebyšev's integral inequality, Hermite--Hadamard's type integral inequalities, Hölder's integral inequality, and Jensen's discrete and integral inequalities, in terms of higher order derivatives and their norms, survey several applications of several refinements of Young's integral inequality, and further refine Young's integral inequa…
