We prove the existence of a family of blow-up solutions of a mean field equation on sphere. The solutions blow up at four points where the minimum value of a potential energy function (involving the Green's function) is attained. The four blow-up points form a regular tetrahedron. Moreover, the solutions we build have a group of symmetry $T_d$ which is isomorphic to the symmetric group $S_4$. Other families of solutions can be similarly constructed with blow-up points at the vertices of equilateral triangles on a great circle or other inscribed platonic solids (cubes, octahedrons, icosahedrons and dodecahedrons). All of these solutions have the symmetries of the corresponding configuration, while they are non-axially symmetric.
In the assumption of hexagonal symmetry of an elastic material the axially symmetric displacement problem in a bounded axially symmetric solid with a Lyapunov boundary is reduced to a system of regular (Fredholm) integral equations.
In this note, we investigate the 3D steady axially symmetric Navier-Stokes equations, and obtained Liouville type theorems if the velocity or the vorticity satisfies some a priori decay assumptions.
In the present article for the generalized bi-axially symmetric multivariable Helmholtz equation four fundamental solutions are constructed in explicit form. Furthermore, some properties of these solutions are shown, which will be used for solving boundary value problems for aforementioned equation.
The axially symmetric solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations in a periodic cylinder with boundary slip conditions on the lateral part of its boundary are considered. A priori estimates for solutions with large swirl necessary for a proof of global regular solutions are derived.
Axially symmetric solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations in a bounded cylinder are considered. On the boundary the normal component of the velocity and he angular components of the velocity and vorticity are assumed to vanish. If the norm of the initial swirl is sufficiently small, then the regularity of axially symmetric, weak solutions is shown. The key tool is a new estimate for the stream function in certain weighted Sobolev spaces.
In the present paper, we prove a sufficient condition of local regularity for suitable weak solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations having axial symmetry. Our condition is an axially symmetric analog of the so-called $L_{3,\infty}$-case in the general local regularity theory.
We study the nonhomogeneous boundary value problem for the Navier--Stokes equations of steady motion of a viscous incompressible fluid in a three--dimensional exterior domain with multiply connected boundary. We prove that this problem has a solution for axially symmetric domains and data (without any smallness restrictions on the fluxes).
The existence of global regular axially symmetric solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations in a bounded cylinder is proved. The main step in the proof is a proof of the Holder continuity of the swirl. This gives a possibility to prove global a priori estimate for regular solutions. Then a local solution can be extended step by step in time.
Global regular axially symmetric solutions with large swirl in a cylinder with periodic conditions on the top and on the bottom are proved. On the lateral part of its boundary the boundary slip conditions are assumed. The proof is obtained step by step extending a local solution and showing that the initial data are not increasing.
We show that if v is an axially symmetric suitable weak solution to the Navier Stokes equations (in the sense of L. Caffarelli, R. Kohn & L. Nirenberg) such that the radial component of v has a higher regularity (i.e. satisfies weighted Serrin-Prodi type condition), then all components of v are regular.
Two main results will be presented in our paper. First, we will prove the regularity of solutions to axially symmetric Navier-Stokes equations under a $log$ supercritical assumption on the horizontally radial component $u^r$ and vertical component $u^z$, accompanied by a $log$ subcritical assumption on the horizontally angular component $u^θ$ of the velocity. Second, the precise Green function for the operator $-(Δ-\frac{1}{r^2})$ under the axially symmetric situation, where $r$ is the distance to the symmetric axis, and some weighted $L^p$ estimates of it will be given. This will serve as a t…
We study axially symmetric $D$-solutions of three dimensional steady Navier-Stokes equations. We prove that if the velocity $u$ decays like $|x'|^{-(\frac{2}{3})^+}$ uniformly for $z$, or the vorticity $ω$ decays like $|x'|^{-(\frac{5}{3})^+}$ uniformly for $z$, then $u$ vanishes. Here $|x'|$ denotes the distance to the axis.
In this paper we study axially symmetric solutions of Allen-Cahn equation with finite Morse index. It is shown that there does not exist such a solution in dimensions between $4$ and $10$. In dimension $3$, we prove that these solutions have finitely many ends. Furthermore, the solution has exactly two ends if its Morse index equals $1$.
We study a counterpart of the classical Poisson integral for a family of weighted Laplace differential equations in Euclidean half space, solutions of which are known as generalized axially symmetric potentials. These potentials appear naturally in the study of hyperbolic Brownian motion with drift. We determine the optimal class of tempered distributions which by means of the so-called $\mathscr{S}'$-convolution can be extended to generalized axially symmetric potentials. In the process, the associated Dirichlet boundary value problem is solved, and we obtain sharp order relations for the asy…
In this paper, we consider regularity criteria of a class of 3D axially symmetric MHD-Boussinesq systems without magnetic resistivity or thermal diffusivity. Under some Prodi-Serrin type critical assumptions on the horizontal angular component of the velocity, we will prove that strong solutions of the axially symmetric MHD-Boussinesq system can be smoothly extended beyond the possible blow-up time $T_\ast$ if the magnetic field contains only the horizontal swirl component. No a priori assumption on the magnetic field and the temperature fluctuation is imposed.
We establish the existence of axially symmetric weak solutions to steady incompressible magnetohydrodynamics with non-homogeneous boundary conditions. The key issue is the Bernoulli's law for the total head pressure $Φ=\f 12(|{\bf u}|^2+|{\bf h}|^2)+p$ to a special class of solutions to the inviscid, non-resistive MHD system, where the magnetic field only contains the swirl component.
In this paper, we establish existence of global subsonic and subsonic-sonic flows through infinitely long axially symmetric nozzles by combining variational method, various elliptic estimates and a compensated compactness method. More precisely, it is shown that there exist global subsonic flows in nozzles for incoming mass flux less than a critical value; moreover, uniformly subsonic flows always approach to uniform flows at far fields when nozzle boundaries tend to be flat at far fields, and flow angles for axially symmetric flows are uniformly bounded away from $π/2$; finally, when the inco…
A domain in $\mathbb{R}^3$ that touches the $x_3$ axis at one point is found with the following property. For any initial value in a $C^2$ class, the axially symmetric Navier Stokes equations with Navier slip boundary condition has a finite energy solution that stays bounded for any given time, i.e. no finite time blow up of the fluid velocity occurs. The result seems to be the first case where the Navier-Stokes regularity problem is solved beyond dimension 2.
We investigate the decay properties of smooth axially symmetric D-solutions to the steady Navier-Stokes equations. The achievements of this paper are two folds. One is improved decay rates of $u_þ$ and $\na {\bf u}$, especially we show that $|u_þ(r,z)|\leq c\left(\f{\log r}{r}\right)^{\f 12}$ for any smooth axially symmetric D-solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations. These improvement are based on improved weighted estimates of $\om_þ$, integral representations of ${\bf u}$ in terms of $\bm{\om}=\textit{curl }{\bf u}$ and $A_p$ weight for singular integral operators, which yields good decay e…
The double-layer potential plays an important role in solving boundary value problems for elliptic equations, and in the study of which for a certain equation, the properties of the fundamental solutions of the given equation are used. All the fundamental solutions of the generalized bi-axially symmetric Helmholts equation were known, and only for the first one was constructed the theory of potential. Here, in this paper, we aim at constructing theory of double-layer potentials corresponding to the fourth fundamental solution.
We consider a free boundary problem for the axially symmetric incompressible ideal magnetohydrodynamic equations that describes the motion of the plasma in vacuum. Both the plasma magnetic field and vacuum magnetic field are tangent along the plasma-vacuum interface. Moreover, the vacuum magnetic field is composed in a non-simply connected domain and hence is non-trivial. Under the non-collinearity condition on the free surface, we prove the local well-posedness of the problem in Sobolev spaces.
The double-layer potential plays an important role in solving boundary value problems for elliptic equations. All the fundamental solutions of the generalized bi-axially symmetric Helmholtz equation were known, and only for the first one was constructed the theory of potential. Here, in this paper, we aim at constructing theory of double-layer potentials corresponding to the next fundamental solution. By using some properties of one of Appell's hypergeometric functions in two variables, we prove limiting theorems and derive integral equations concerning a denseness of double-layer potentials.
This paper is concerned with the well-posedness theory of the impact of a subsonic axially symmetric jet emerging from a semi-infinitely long nozzle, onto a rigid wall. The fluid motion is described by the steady isentropic Euler system. We showed that there exists a critical value $M_{cr}>0$, if the given mass flux is less than $M_{cr}$, there exists a unique smooth subsonic axially symmetric jet issuing from the given semi-infinitely long nozzle and hitting a given uneven wall. The surface of the axially symmetric impinging jet is a free boundary, which detaches from the edge of the nozzle s…
The global regularity for the incompressible magnetohydrodynamic equations (MHD) in three dimensions is a long standing open problem of fluid dynamics and PDE theory. The Navier-Stokes equations can be viewed as a special case of MHD with a constant magnetic field, whose global regularity problem is known as a Clay Millennium Prize Problem. In this article, we prove the global regularity of axially symmetric solutions to the ideal MHD in three dimensions for a family of non-trivial magnetic fields. The proofs are based on the special structures of MHD and can of course also applied to the resi…

Smooth solutions to the axially symmetric Navier-Stokes equations obey the following maximum principle:$\|ru_θ(r,z,t)\|_{L^\infty}\leq\|ru_θ(r,z,0)\|_{L^\infty}.$ We first prove the global regularity of solutions if $\|ru_θ(r,z,0)\|_{L^\infty}$ or $ \|ru_θ(r,z,t)\|_{L^\infty(r\leq r_0)}$ is small compared with certain dimensionless quantity of the initial data. This result improves the one in Zhen Lei and Qi S. Zhang \cite{1}. As a corollary, we also prove the global regularity under the assumption that $|ru_θ(r,z,t)|\leq\ |\ln r|^{-3/2},\ \ \forall\ 0<r\leqδ_0\in(0,1/2).$
In this paper, we consider the Liouville property for ancient solutions of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. In 2D and the 3D axially symmetric case without swirl, we prove sharp Liouville theorems for smooth ancient mild solutions: velocity fields $v$ are constants if vorticity fields satisfy certain condition and $v$ are sublinear with respect to spatial variables, and we also give counterexamples when $v$ are linear with respect to spatial variables. The condition which vorticity fields need to satisfy is $\lim\limits_{|x|\rightarrow +\infty}|w(x,t)|=0$ and $\lim\limits_{r\rightar…
In this paper, we investigate the decay properties of axially symmetric solutions to the steady incompressible magnetohydrodynamic equations in $\mathbb{R}^3$ with finite Dirichlet integral. We first derive the decay rates of general D-solutions to the axisymmetric MHD equations. In the special case where the magnetic field only has the swirl component ${\textbf {h}}(r,z)= h_θ(r,z) {\mathbf e_θ}$, we obtain better decay rates. The last result examines the decay rates along the axis $Oz$ also within the special class of D-solutions with only swirl magnetic field. The main tool in this paper is …
In the paper \cite{KNSS:1}, the authors make the following conjecture: {\it any bounded ancient mild solution of the 3D axially symmetric Navier-Stokes equations is constant.} And it is proved in the case that the solution is swirl free. Our purpose of this paper is to improve their result by allowing that the solution can grow with a power smaller than 1 with respect to the distance to the origin. Also, we will show that such a power is optimal to prove the Liouville type theorem since we can find counterexamples for the Navier-Stokes equations such that the Liouville theorem fails if the sol…
In this paper, we will prove the global existence of solutions to the three dimensional axially symmetric Prandtl boundary layer equations with small initial data, which lies in $H^1$ Sobolev space with respect to the normal variable and is analytical with respect to the tangential variables. Proof of the main result relies on the construction of a tangentially weighted analytic energy functional, which acts on a specially designed good unknown. The constructed energy functional can find its two dimensional parallel in Ignatova-Vicol [2016ARMA] where no tangential weight is introduced and the …
Let $v$ be the velocity of Leray-Hopf solutions to the axially symmetric three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations. Under suitable conditions for initial values, we prove the following a priori bound \[ |v(x, t)| \le \frac{C}{r^2} |\ln r|^{1/2}, \]where $r \in (0, 1/2)$ is the distance from $x$ to the z axis, and $C$ is a constant depending only on the initial value. This provides a pointwise upper bound (worst case scenario) for possible singularities while the recent papers \cite{CSTY2} and \cite{KNSS} gave a lower bound. The gap is polynomial order 1 modulo a half log term.
We prove a sharp Beckner's inequality for axially symmetric functions on $S^4$. The key ingredients of our proof is some pointwise quantitative properties of Gegenbauer polynomials.
We study mean curvature flow of smooth, axially symmetric surfaces in $\mathbb{R}^3$ with Neumann boundary data. We show that all singularities at the first singular time must be of type I.
In this article we present various uniqueness and existence results for Q-curvature type equations with a Paneitz operator on $\s^n$ in axially symmetric function spaces. In particular, we show uniqueness results for $n=6, 8$ and improve the best constant of Beckner's inequality in these dimensions for axially symmetric functions under the constraint that their centers of mass are at the origin. As a consequence, the associated first Szegö limit theorem is also proven for axially symmetric functions.
For any n>1 we give an explicit example of an n-axially symmetric Cartesian current in B^3 x S^2 with non-trivial vertical part and non-constant graph part minimizing the relaxed Dirichlet energy among the n-axially symmetric Cartesian currents with the same boundary. This stands in sharp contrast with a results of Hardt, Lin and Poon for the case n=1.
We show that axially symmetric solutions on $\mathbb{S}^4$ to a constant $Q$-curvature type equation (it may also be called fourth order mean field equation) must be constant, provided that the parameter $α$ in front of the Paneitz operator belongs to $[\frac{473 + \sqrt{209329}}{1800}\approx0.517, 1)$. This is in contrast to the case $α=1$, where a family of solutions exist, known as standard bubbles. The phenomenon resembles the Gaussian curvature equation on $ \mathbb{S}^2$. As a consequence, we prove an improved Beckner's inequality on $\mathbb{S}^4$ for axially symmetric functions with th…
We prove that there exists a phase space of canonical variables for the initial value problem for axially symmetric Maxwell fields propagating in Kerr-de Sitter black hole spacetimes such that their motion is restricted to the level sets of a positive-definite Hamiltonian, despite the ergo-region.
We prove the existence of axially symmetric solutions to the Vlasov--Poisson system in a rotating setting for sufficiently small angular velocity. The constructed steady states depend on Jacobi's integral and the proof relies on an implicit function theorem for operators.
We examine the conditional regularity of the solutions of Navier-Stokes equations in the entire three-dimensional space under the assumption that the data are axially symmetric. We show that if positive part of the radial component of velocity satisfies a weighted Serrin condition and in addition angular component satisfies some condition, then the solution is regular.
We investigate the formation of singularities for surfaces evolving by volume preserving mean curvature flow. For axially symmetric flows - surfaces of revolution - in $\mathbb{R}^3$ with Neumann boundary conditions, we prove that the first developing singularity is of Type I. The result is obtained without any additional curvature assumptions being imposed, while axial symmetry and boundary conditions are justifiable given the volume constraint. Additional results and ingredients towards the main proof include a non-cylindrical parabolic maximum principle, and a series of estimates on geometr…
We prove that there does not exist global-in-time axisymmetric solutions to the time-like minimal submanifold system in Minkowski space. We further analyze the limiting geometry as the maximal time of existence is approached.
The double-layer potential plays an important r$\hat{\rm o}$le in solving boundary value problems of elliptic equations. Here, in this paper, we aim at introducing and investigating double layer potentials for a generalized bi-axially symmetric Helmholtz equation. By using some properties of one of Appell's hypergeometric functions in two variables, we prove limiting theorems and derive integral equations concerning a denseness of double-layer potentials.
In the classical survey (Chapter 16.2, {\it Mathematics in industrial problem}, Vol. 24, Springer-Verlag, New York, 1989), A. Friedman proposed an open problem on the collision of two incompressible jets emerging from two axially symmetric nozzles. In this paper, we concerned with the mathematical theory on this collision problem, and establish the well-posedness theory on hydrodynamic impinging outgoing jets issuing from two coaxial axially symmetric nozzles. More precisely, we showed that for any given mass fluxes $M_1>0$ and $M_2<0$ in two nozzles respectively, that there exists an incompre…
