The existence of new electro-acoustic (EA) waves [named here `degenerate pressure driven EA' (DPDEA) waves] propagating in a degenerate quantum plasma (DQP) system [containing non-inertial, cold, non-relativistically (NR)/ultra-relativistically (UR) degenerate electron species (DES), and inertial, cold, NR degenerate positive particle species (PPS)] is predicted for the first time. The DPDEA waves, in which the inertia is mainly provided by the mass density of the inertial PPS, and the restoring force is mainly provided by the non-inertial, NR/UR DES, are new since they are completely disappeared if the degenerate pressure of the plasma particle species is neglected. The dispersion relation (derived here for the first time) is applied in a white dwarf DQP system to show the dispersion properties of the new DPDEA waves.
We consider the relativistic ion-acoustic mode in a plasma composed by cold ions and an ultra-degenerate electron gas, described the relativistic Vlasov-Poisson system. A critical examination of popular fluid models for relativistic ion-acoustic waves is provided, comparing kinetic and hydrodynamic results. The kinetic linear dispersion relation is shown to be reproduced by the rigorous relativistic hydrodynamic equations with Chandrasekhar's equation of state.
The existence of a new perturbation mode [`self-gravito-acoustic mode' (SGAM)] in cold self-gravitating degenerate quantum plasmas (SGDQPs) is theoretically predicted. This new SGAM is developed in the perturbed SGDQPs, in which the compression is mainly provided by the self-gravitational pressure of the heavy particle species, and the rarefaction is mainly provided by the degenerate pressure of the light particle species. The SGAM is a new perturbation mode since it completely disappears if the degenerate pressure of the light particle species is neglected. The prediction of this new SGAM is …

The Korteweg-de Vries (K-dV), the modified K-dV (MK-dV), and the Gardner equations are derived to examine the basic features (viz. amplitude, speed, and width) of NA SWs and DLs. It is found that the effects of the u…
A theoretical investigation has been carried out on the propagation of nonlinear ion-acoustic shock waves (IASHWs) in a collsionless magnetized degenerate quantum plasma system composed of inertial non-relativistic positively charged light and heavy ions, inertialess ultra-relativistically degenerate electrons and positrons. The reductive perturbation method has been employed to drive the Burgers' equation. It has been observed that under consideration, our plasma model supports only positive potential shock structure. It is also found that the amplitude and steepness of the IASHWs have been s…
High-density low-temperature plasmas with degenerate species are considered in the limit of high Fermi velocities close to the speed of light. A theoretical investigation has been carried out to examine the ion-acoustic shock waves (IASHWs) in a magnetized degenerate quantum plasma system containing inertialess ultra-relativistically degenerate electrons, and inertial non-relativistic positively charged heavy and light ions. The Burgers' equation is derived by employing reductive perturbation method. It can be seen that under consideration of non-relativistic positively charged heavy and light ions, the plasma model supports only positive electrostatic shock structure. It is also observed that the charge state and number density of t…
The spin-electron-acoustic waves (sometimes called the spin-plasmons) can be found in degenerate electron gas if the spin-up electrons and spin down electrons move relatively each other. Here, we suggest relativistic hydrodynamics with the separate spin evolution which allows us to study linear and nonlinear spin-electron-acoustic waves, including the spin-electron-acoustic solitons. Presented hydrodynamic model is the corresponding generalization of the relativistic hydrodynamic model with the average reverse gamma factor evolution which consists of the equations for evolution of the followin…
The non-linear evolution of spin-electron acoustic, positron-acoustic, and spin-electron-positron acoustic waves is considered. It is demonstrated that weakly nonlinear dynamics of each wave leads to the soliton formation. Altogether, we report on existence of three different solitons. The spin-electron acoustic soliton known for electron-ion plasmas is described for electron-positron-ion plasmas for the first time. The existence of the spin-electron-positron acoustic soliton is reported for the first time. The positron-acoustic soliton and the spin-electron-positron acoustic soliton arise as …
The basic features of nucleus-acoustic (NA) envelope bright and dark solitons, which exist in degenerate quantum plasmas, have been theoretically investigated by deriving the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation. The reductive perturbation method, which is valid for a small but finite amplitude limit, is employed. It is found that the bright envelope solitons are modulationally unstable, whereas the dark ones are stable. It is also observed that the fundamental properties (viz. Modulational instability (MI) growth rate, width and energy concentration of NA waves, etc.) of NA unstable bright en…
A self-consistent relativistic two-fluid model is proposed for one-dimensional electron-ion plasma dynamics. A multiple scales perturbation technique is employed, leading to an evolution equation for the wave envelope, in the form of a nonlinear Schrödinger type equation (NLSE). The inclusion of relativistic effects is shown to introduce density-dependent factors, not present in the non-relativistic case - in the conditions for modulational instability. The role of relativistic effects on the linear dispersion laws and on envelope soliton solutions of the NLSE is discussed.
Oblique propagation of the spin-electron acoustic waves in degenerate magnetized plasmas is considered in terms of quantum kinetics with the separate spin evolution, where the spin-up electrons and the spin-down electrons are considered as two different species with different equilibrium distributions. It is considered in the electrostatic limit. Corresponding dispersion equation is derived. Analytical analysis of the dispersion equation is performed in the long-wavelength limit to find an approximate dispersion equation describing the spin-electron acoustic wave. The approximate dispersion eq…
The propagation of arbitrary amplitude ion-acoustic (IA) solitary waves (SWs) is studied in unmagnetized, collisionless, homogeneous electron-positron-ion (e-p-i) plasmas with finite temperature degeneracy of both electrons and positrons. Starting from a set of fluid equations for classical ions and Fermi-Dirac distribution for degenerate electrons and positrons, a linear dispersion relation for IA waves is derived. It is seen that the wave dispersion is significantly modified due to the presence of positron species and the effects of finite temperature degeneracy of electrons and positrons. I…
Using the extended Poincaré-Lighthill-Kuo (PLK) reductive perturbation method to study the small-amplitude ion acoustic solitary wave (IASW) dynamics (propagation and interaction), it is shown that in Thomas-Fermi magneto-plasma consisting of inertial-less degenerate electrons and positrons and isothermal ions, distinctive features emerge when the ultra-relativistic degeneracy pressure applies to electrons and positrons. Calculations show that ion-acoustic solitary waves may interact differently in such plasmas under ultra-relativistic degeneracy pressure.
The basic features of linear and nonlinear quantum electron-acoustic (QEA) waves in a degenerate quantum plasma (containing non-relativistically degenerate electrons, superthermal or $κ$-distributed electrons, and stationary ions) are theoretically investigated. The nonlinear Schödinger (NLS) equation is derived by employing thereductive perturbation method. The stationary solitonic solution of the NLS equation are obtained, and examined analytically as well as numerically to identify the basic features of the QEA envelope solitons. It has been found that the effects of the degeneracy and exch…
The propagation of ion-acoustic solitary waves (IASWs) in a magnetized, collisionless degenerate plasma system for describing collective plasma oscillations in dense quantum plasmas with relativistically degenerate electrons, oppositely charged inertial ions, and positively charged immobile heavy elements is investigated theoretically. The perturbations of the magnetized quantum plasma are studied employing the reductive perturbation technique to derive the Korteweg-de Vries (K-dV) and the modified K-dV (mK-dV) equations that admits solitary wave solutions. Chandrasekhar limits are used to inv…
Linear and nonlinear ion-acoustic waves are studied in a fluid model for non-relativistic, unmagnetized quantum plasma with electrons with an arbitrary degeneracy degree. The equation of state for electrons follows from a local Fermi-Dirac distribution function and apply equally well both to fully degenerate or classical, non-degenerate limits. Ions are assumed to be cold. Quantum diffraction effects through the Bohm potential are also taken into account. A general coupling parameter valid for dilute and dense plasmas is proposed. The linear dispersion relation of the ion-acoustic waves is obt…
The basic properties of the nucleus-acoustic (NA) solitary waves (SWs) are investigated in a super-dense self-gravitating magnetized quantum plasma (SDSGMQP) system in the presence of an external magnetic field, whose constituents are the non-degenerate light (heavy) nuclei, and non/ultra-relativistically degenerate electrons. The Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation has been derived by employing the reductive perturbation method. The NA SWs are formed with negative (positive) electrostatic (self-gravitational) potential. It is also observed that the effects of non/ultra-relativistically degenerat…
The propagation of fully nonlinear ion acoustic solitary waves (IASW) in a magneto-plasma with degenerate electrons was investigated by Abdelsalam et al. [[1] Physics Letters A 372 (2008) 4923]. Based on their work in the present work, a rigorous and general analytical study is presented. This confirms their implied assumption that (i) only hump and no cavity is possible and (ii) for humps, the algebraic equation for the maximum density N obtained by them determines it uniquely (naturally assumes N > 1). Here we confirm analytically their assertion that N decreases with lx (the direction cosin…
Nonlinear wave--coupling is studied in a multi-species degenerate astrophysical plasma consisting of two electron species (at different temperatures): a highly degenerate main component plus a smaller classical relativistic flow immersed in a static neutralizing ion background. It is shown that the high frequency electromagnetic (HF EM) waves, through their strong nonlinear interactions with the electron--acoustic waves (sustained by a multi-electron component (degenerate) plasma surrounding a compact astrophysical object) can scatter to lower frequencies so that the radiation observed faraway…
Nonlinear ion-acoustic cnoidal wave structures are studied in an unmagnetized quantum plasma. Using the reductive perturbation method, a Korteweg-de Vries equation is derived for appropriate boundary conditions and nonlinear periodic wave solutions are obtained. The corresponding analytical solution and numerical plots of the ion-acoustic cnoidal waves and solitons in the phase plane are presented using the Sagdeev pseudo-potential approach. The variations in the nonlinear potential of the ion-acoustic cnoidal waves are studied at different values of quantum parameter $H_{e}$ which is the rati…
In this review we give an overview of recent work on quantum kinetic theories of plasmas. We focus, in particular, on the case where the electrons are fully degenerate. For such systems, perturbation methods using the distribution function can be problematic. Instead we present a model that considers the dynamics of the Fermi surface. The advantage of this model is that, even though the value of the distribution function can be greatly perturbed outside the equilibrium Fermi surface, deformation of Fermi surface is small up very large amplitudes. Next, we investigate the short-scale dynamics f…
Separate spin evolution quantum hydrodynamics is generalized to include the Coulomb exchange interaction. The Coulomb exchange interaction is considered as the interaction between the spin-down electrons being in the quantum states occupied by one electron, giving main contribution in the equilibrium. The generalized model is applied to study the non-linear spin-electron acoustic waves. Existence of the spin-electron acoustic soliton is demonstrated. Contributions of the concentration, spin polarization, and exchange interaction in the properties of the spin electron acoustic soliton are studi…
The linear electron acoustic waves propagating in plasmas with two kappa-distributed electrons and stationary ions are investigated. The temperatures of the two electrons are assumed to be the same, but the kappa indices are not. It shows that if one kappa index is small enough and the other one is large enough, a weak damping regime of the electron acoustic waves exists. The dispersions and damping rates are numerically studied. The parameter spaces for the weakly damped electron acoustic waves are analyzed. Moreover, the electron acoustic waves in the present model are compared with those in…
Separated spin-up and spin-down quantum kinetics is derived for more detailed research of the spin-electron acoustic waves. Kinetic theory allows to obtain spectrum of the spin-electron acoustic waves including effects of occupation of quantum states more accurately than quantum hydrodynamics. We apply quantum kinetic to calculate the Landau damping of the spin-electron acoustic waves. We have considered contribution of ions dynamics in the spin-electron acoustic wave spectrum. We obtain contribution of ions in the Landau damping in temperature regime of classic ions. Kinetic analysis for ion-…
Quantum hydrodynamic (QHD) model of charged spin-1/2 particles contains physical quantities defined for all particles of a species including particles with spin-up and with spin-down. Different population of states with different spin direction is included in the spin density (magnetization). In this paper we derive a QHD model, which separately describes spin-up electrons and spin-down electrons. Hence we consider electrons with different projection of spin on the preferable direction as two different species of particles. We show that numbers of particles with different spin direction do not…
A standard nonlinear Schrödinger equation has been established by using the reductive perturbation method to investigate the propagation of electrostatic dust-acoustic waves, and their modulational instability as well as the formation of localized electrostatic envelope solitons in an electron depleted unmagnetized dusty plasma system comprising opposite polarity dust grains and super-thermal positive ions. The relevant physical plasma parameters (viz., charge, mass, number density of positive and negative dust grains, and super-thermality of the positive ions, etc.) have rigorous impact to re…
The propagation of nonlinear electron- acoustic waves (EAWs) in an unmagnetized collision- less plasma system consisting of a cold electron fluid, superthermal hot electrons and stationary ions is investigated. A reductive perturbation method is employed to obtain a modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equa- tion for the first-order potential. The small amplitude electron-acoustic solitary wave, e.g., soliton and dou- ble layer (DL) solutions are presented, and the effects of superthermal electrons on the nature of the solitons are also discussed. But the results shows that the weak stationary EA…
Propagation of arbitrary-amplitude ion-acoustic solitary (IASWs) as well as periodic waves (IAPWs) is investigated in a fully degenerate quantum electron-ion plasma consisting of isothermal- or adiabatic-ion species. It is shown that the system dimensionality and degrees of freedom play critical roles in matching criteria for propagation of such waves. Furthermore, it is revealed that for the case of adiabatic-ion unlike isothermal one, in some cases, there exists an upper fractional ion-temperature limit for the existence of IAPWs. It is also shown that, the variations of wave-amplitude with …
We study electron heating in collisionless current-driven turbulence due to the nonlinear interactions between electron- and ion-acoustic waves. PIC simulation results show that due to a large difference between the electron and ion mean velocities the Buneman instability excites large-amplitude ion-acoustic waves, which strongly modifies the electron velocity distribution function, leading to a secondary instability that generates fast electron-acoustic waves; and in this process, a giant electron hole is ultimately created. This giant electron hole is responsible for strong electron heating …
The existence and the basic features of ion-acoustic (IA) envelope solitons in a self-gravitating degenerate quantum plasma system (SG-DQPS), containing inertial non-relativistically degenerate light and heavy ion species as well as inertialess non-relativistically degenerate positron and electron species, have been theoretically investigated by deriving the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation. The NLS equation, which governs the dynamics of the IA waves, has disclosed the modulationally stable and unstable regions for the IA waves. The unstable region allows to generate bright envelope solit…
The existence of standing high frequency electromagnetic (EM) solitons in a fully degenerate overdense electron plasma is studied applying relativistic hydrodynamics and Maxwell equations. The stable soliton solutions are found in both relativistic and nonrelativistic degenerate plasmas.
Magnetic reconnection converts magnetic energy into thermal and kinetic energy in plasma. Among numerous candidate mechanisms, ion acoustic instabilities driven by the relative drift between ions and electrons, or equivalently electric current, have been suggested to play a critical role in dissipating magnetic energy in collisionless plasmas. However, their existence and effectiveness during reconnection have not been well understood due to ion Landau damping and difficulties in resolving the Debye length scale in the laboratory. Here we report a sudden onset of ion acoustic bursts measured b…
The passage of an ion-acoustic solitary wave through the boundary between an electron-ion plasma and a negative ion plasma is considered. After the ion-acoustic solitary wave enters the region of another plasma, a disturbance arises, from which an ion-acoustic solitary wave and a chain of oscillations form over time. The amplitude of the ion-acoustic solitary wave after passage through the boundary changes in such a way that its value in the electron-ion plasma is greater than its value in the negative ion plasmas. An exception is the case of a compressive ion-acoustic solitary wave propagatin…
Electron Acoustic waves in Fermi Plasma with two temperature electrons have various applications in space and laboratory-made plasma. In some dense plasma systems like the inside of compact stars, Fermi plasma is important. We have studied Fermi plasma system with three components, two temperature electrons, and ions. The hot electrons are mobile and produce restoring force to the system while cold electrons are immobile and produce inertia to the system. We have studied the dispersion behavior of electron acoustic waves in Fermi plasma with two temperature electrons and investigated its depen…
Degenerate plasmas with motionless ions show existence of three surface waves: the Langmuir wave, the electromagnetic wave, and the zeroth sound. Applying the separated spin evolution quantum hydrodynamics to half-space plasma we demonstrate the existence of the surface spin-electron acoustic wave (SSEAW). We study dispersion of the SSEAW. We show that there is hybridization between the surface Langmuir wave and the SSEAW at rather small spin polarization. In the hybridization area the dispersion branches are located close to each other. In this area there is a strong interaction between these…
The existence of soliton-like electromagnetic (EM) distributions in a fully degenerate electron-positron plasma is studied applying relativistic hydrodynamic and Maxwell equations. For circularly polarized wave it is found that the soliton solutions exist both in relativistic as well as nonrelativistic degenerate plasmas. Plasma density in the region of soliton pulse localization is reduced considerably. The possibility of plasma cavitation is also shown.
1-D Eulerian Vlasov-Maxwell simulations are presented which show kinetic enhancement of stimulated Raman backscatter (SRBS) due to electron trapping in regimes of heavy linear Landau damping. The conventional Raman Langmuir wave is transformed into a set of beam acoustic modes [L. Yin et al., Phys. Rev. E 73, 025401 (2006)]. For the first time, a low phase velocity electron acoustic wave (EAW) is seen developing from the self-consistent Raman physics. Backscatter of the pump laser off the EAW fluctuations is reported and referred to as electron acoustic Thomson scatter. This light is similar i…
We derive Quantum Zakharov-Kuznetsov to study ion acoustic solitons propagating in electron positron (hole) ion degenerate plasma with quantized magnetic field and exchange corelation effects.
We consider the possibility of formation of a superconductivity state either in a semiconductor or in a electron-hole plasma with the degenerate electrons due to the attractive forces between the electrons as a result of the exchange effects through the electron-hole sound wave by analogy to the phonon waves in a solid state. We have determined the view of an interaction potential between two electrons in a degenerate electron-hole plasma. The potential appears to be attractive at distances large than the Debye radius and decreases as $1/r^3$. We discuss the conditions at which the bound elect…
We consider the separate spin evolution of electrons and positrons in electron-positron and electron-positron-ion plasmas. We consider oblique propagating longitudinal waves in this systems. We report presence of the spin-electron acoustic waves and their dispersion dependencies. In electron-positron plasmas, similarly to the electron-ion plasmas, we find one spin-electron acoustic wave (SEAW) at propagation parallel or perpendicular to the external field and two spin-electron acoustic waves at the oblique propagation. At the parallel or perpendicular propagation of the longitudinal waves in e…
The formation of the gigantic dust-acoustic rouge waves (DARWs) in an electron depleted unmagnetized opposite polarity dusty plasma system is theoretically observed for the first time. The nonlinear Schrödinger equation (derived by utilizing the reductive perturbation method) has been analytically as well as numerically analyzed to identify the basic features (viz., height, thickness, and modulational instability, etc.) of DARWs. The results obtained form this investigation should be useful in understanding the basic properties of these rouge waves which can predict to be formed in electron de…
An implicit and conservative numerical scheme is proposed for the isotropic quantum Fokker-Planck equation describing the evolution of degenerate electrons subject to elastic collisions with other electrons and ions. The electron-ion and electron-electron collision operators are discretized using a discontinuous Galerkin method, and the electron energy distribution is updated by an implicit time integration method. The numerical scheme is designed to satisfy all conservation laws exactly. Numerical tests and comparisons with other modeling approaches are shown to demonstrate the accuracy and c…
Nonlinear ion-acoustic waves are analyzed in a non-relativistic magnetized quantum plasma with arbitrary degeneracy of electrons. Quantum statistics is taken into account by means of the equation of state for ideal fermions at arbitrary temperature. Quantum diffraction is described by a modified Bohm potential consistent with finite temperature quantum kinetic theory in the long wavelength limit. The dispersion relation of the obliquely propagating electrostatic waves in magnetized quantum plasma with arbitrary degeneracy of electrons is obtained. Using the reductive perturbation method, the c…
The analysis of nonlinear interaction of transversal electromagnetic field with degenerate collisionless classical and quantum plasmas is carried out. Formulas for calculation electric current in degenerate collisionless classical and quantum plasmas are deduced. It has appeared, that the nonlinearity account leads to occurrence of longitudinal electric current directed along a wave vector. This second current is orthogonal to the known transversal current, received at the classical linear analysis. Graphic comparison of density of electric current for classical degenerate Fermi plasmas and Fe…
In plasmas with electron drift (current) relative to static ions, the ion acoustic wave is subject to the kinetic instability which takes place if the directed electron speed exceeds the ion acoustic speed. The instability threshold becomes different in the case of one quasi-neutral electron-ion plasma propagating through another static quasi-neutral (target) plasma. The threshold velocity of the propagating plasma may be well below the ion acoustic speed of the static plasma. Such a current-less instability may frequently be expected in space and astrophysical plasmas.
We consider the nonlinear propagation of finite amplitude electron-acoustic waves (EAWs) in multi-component plasmas composed of two distinct groups of electrons (cold and hot components), and non-isothermal ions. We use the continuity and momentum equations for cold inertial electrons, Boltzmann law for inertialess hot electrons, non-isothermal density distribution for hot ions, and Poisson's equation to derive an energy integral with a modified Sagdeev potential (MSP) for nonlinear EAWs. The MSP is analyzed to demonstrate the existence of arbitrary amplitude EA solitary pulses (EASPs) and EA …
A solution to the Boltzmann equation is obtained for a magnetized plasma with non-degenerate electrons and ions by Chapman-Enskog method. To obtain an approximate solution, the Sonine polynomials up to the third-order approximation are used. Fully ionized plasma is considered. We obtained more accurately the components for the diffusion, thermal diffusion and diffusion thermoeffect tensors in comparison with previous publications on this subject.
Instabilities of ion-acoustic waves in a dusty plasma with electron-drift, collisional, and dust charge fluctuations effects, have been investigated. The regimes are clearly marked out where the theory is applicable. The critical electron-drift velocity required to drive the instability is predicted. It is also shown that electron thermal conductivity and charged grains concentration enhance the growth of the ion-acoustic mode whereas ion-viscosity, ion-thermal conductivity, and dust charge fluctuations have a stabilizing effect.

Electron-acoustic waves occur in space and laboratory plasmas where two distinct electron populations exist, namely cool and hot electrons. The observations revealed that the hot electron distribution often has a long-tailed suprathermal (non-Maxwellian) form. The aim of the present study is to investigate how various plasma parameters modify the electron-acoustic structures. We have studied the electron-acoustic waves in a collisionless and unmagnetized plasma consisting of cool inertial electrons, hot suprathermal electrons, and mobile ions. First, we started with a cold one-fluid model, and…
We investigate the existence conditions and propagation properties of electron-acoustic solitary waves in a plasma consisting of an electron beam fluid, a cold electron fluid, and a hot suprathermal electron component modeled by a $κ$-distribution function. The Sagdeev pseudopotential method was used to investigate the occurrence of stationary-profile solitary waves. We have determined how the soliton characteristics depend on the electron beam parameters. It is found that the existence domain for solitons becomes narrower with an increase in the suprathermality of hot electrons, increasing th…
Theoretical and numerical studies are presented of the amplitude modulation of electron-acoustic waves (EAWs) propagating in space plasmas whose constituents are inertial cold electrons, Boltzmann distributed hot electrons and stationary ions. Perturbations oblique to the carrier EAW propagation direction have been considered. The stability analysis, based on a nonlinear Schroedinger equation (NLSE), reveals that the EAW may become unstable; the stability criteria depend on the angle $θ$ between the modulation and propagation directions. Different types of localized EA excitations are shown to…
