A solution to the Boltzmann equation is obtained for a magnetized plasma with non-degenerate electrons and ions by Chapman-Enskog method. To obtain an approximate solution, the Sonine polynomials up to the third-order approximation are used. Fully ionized plasma is considered. We obtained more accurately the components for the diffusion, thermal diffusion and diffusion thermoeffect tensors in comparison with previous publications on this subject.
The properties of nucleus-acoustic (NA) solitary waves (SWs) and double layers (DLs) in a four-component magnetized degenerate quantum plasma system (containing non-degenerate inertial light nuclei, both non-relativistically and ultra-relativistically degenerate electrons and positrons, and immobile heavy nuclei) are theoretically investigated by the reductive perturbation method. The Korteweg-de Vries (K-dV), the modified K-dV (MK-dV), and the Gardner equations are derived to examine the basic features (viz. amplitude, speed, and width) of NA SWs and DLs. It is found that the effects of the u…
A theoretical investigation has been carried out to examine the ion-acoustic shock waves (IASHWs) in a magnetized degenerate quantum plasma system containing inertialess ultra-relativistically degenerate electrons, and inertial non-relativistic positively charged heavy and light ions. The Burgers' equation is derived by employing reductive perturbation method. It can be seen that under consideration of non-relativistic positively charged heavy and light ions, the plasma model supports only positive electrostatic shock structure. It is also observed that the charge state and number density of t…
We compute electrical and thermal conductivities of hydrogen plasmas in the non-degenerate regime using Kohn-Sham Density Functional Theory (DFT) and an application of the Kubo-Greenwood response formula, and demonstrate that for thermal conductivity, the mean-field treatment of the electron-electron (e-e) interaction therein is insufficient to reproduce the weak-coupling limit obtained by plasma kinetic theories. An explicit e-e scattering correction to the DFT is posited by appealing to Matthiessen's Rule and the results of our computations of conductivities with the quantum Lenard-Balescu (…
The basic properties of the nucleus-acoustic (NA) solitary waves (SWs) are investigated in a super-dense self-gravitating magnetized quantum plasma (SDSGMQP) system in the presence of an external magnetic field, whose constituents are the non-degenerate light (heavy) nuclei, and non/ultra-relativistically degenerate electrons. The Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation has been derived by employing the reductive perturbation method. The NA SWs are formed with negative (positive) electrostatic (self-gravitational) potential. It is also observed that the effects of non/ultra-relativistically degenerat…
It is well known that magnetic fields affect heat conduction in a different way in the direction parallel and perpendicular to the field. In this paper a formal derivation of this phenomenon and analytical expressions for the transport coefficients based in the Boltzmann equation are presented. Moreover, the Dufour effect or diffusion thermo effect is usually ignored in plasma transport theory. In this work, analytic expressions for the parallel and perpendicular thermal conductivities as well as the coefficients for both the thermal diffusion, or Soret, effect and the Dufour effect are formal…
The propagation of fully nonlinear ion acoustic solitary waves (IASW) in a magneto-plasma with degenerate electrons was investigated by Abdelsalam et al. [[1] Physics Letters A 372 (2008) 4923]. Based on their work in the present work, a rigorous and general analytical study is presented. This confirms their implied assumption that (i) only hump and no cavity is possible and (ii) for humps, the algebraic equation for the maximum density N obtained by them determines it uniquely (naturally assumes N > 1). Here we confirm analytically their assertion that N decreases with lx (the direction cosin…
The low frequency, long wavelength electromagnetic waves, viz, shear Alfven wave in quantum electron-positron-ion magneto plasmas, have been examined using quantum magneto hydrodynamic model. In this model, we have considered electrons and positrons are to be magnetized as well as degenerate whereas ions are magnetized but classical. We have also included the effects of exchange correlation terms which appear entirely the dynamic equations of electrons and positrons. The whole treatment is done using multi-fluid model. Our object is to study the shear Alfvén waves propagating in above said sys…
We consider quantum plasmas of electrons and motionless ions. We describe separate evolution of spin-up and spin-down electrons. We present corresponding set of quantum hydrodynamic equations. We assume that plasmas are placed in an uniform external magnetic field. We account different occupation of spin-up and spin-down quantum states in equilibrium degenerate plasmas. This effect is included via equations of state for pressure of each species of electrons. We study oblique propagation of longitudinal waves. We show that instead of two well-known waves (the Langmuir wave and the Trivelpiece--…
The solution of Boltzmann equation for plasma in magnetic field, with arbitrarily degenerate electrons and non-degenerate nuclei, is obtained by Chapman-Enskog method. Functions, generalizing Sonin polynomials are used for obtaining an approximate solution. Fully ionized plasma is considered. The tensor of the heat conductivity coefficients in non-quantized magnetic field is calculated. For non-degenerate and strongly degenerate plasma the asymptotic analytic formulas are obtained, which are compared with results of previous authors. The Lorentz approximation, with neglecting of electron-elect…
The nonlinear propagation of small amplitude ion acoustic solitary wave in relativistic degenerate magneto plasma in presence of ion beam is investigated in detail. The nonlinear equations describing the evolution of solitary wave in presence of relativistic non-degenerate magnetized positive ions and ion beams including magnetized degenerate relativistic electrons are derived in terms of Zakharov-Kuznetsov (Z-K) equation for such plasma systems. The ion beams which are ubiquitous ingredient in such plasma systems, are found to have a decisive role in the propagation of solitary wave in such h…
Practical expressions are derived for evaluation of electrical and thermal conductivities and thermopower of degenerate electrons in the outer envelopes of neutron stars with magnetic fields. All tensor components of the kinetic coefficients are calculated (those related to conduction along and across magnetic field and to the Hall currents). The kinetic coefficients are presented as energy averages of expressions containing energy dependent effective relaxation times of two types, associated either with longitudinal or with transverse currents. The calculation is based on the effective scatte…
The dispersion relation of kinetic Alfvén wave in inertial regime is studied in a three component non-degenerate streaming plasma. A lin- ear dispersion relation using fluid- Vlasov equation for quantum plasma is also derived. The quantum correction CQ raised due to the insertion of Bohm potential in Vlasov model causes the suppression in the Alfven wave frequency and the growth rates of instability. A number of analytical expressions are derived for various modes of propagation. It is also found that many system parameters, i.e, streaming velocity, dust charge, num- ber density and quantum co…
The dielectric permeability tensor for spin polarized plasmas is derived in terms of the spin-1/2 quantum kinetic model in six-dimensional phase space. Expressions for the distribution function and spin distribution function are derived in linear approximations on the path of dielectric permeability tensor derivation. The dielectric permeability tensor is derived the spin-polarized degenerate electron gas. It is also discussed at the finite temperature regime, where the equilibrium distribution function is presented by the spin-polarized Fermi-Dirac distribution. Consideration of the spin-pola…
The propagation of ion-acoustic solitary waves (IASWs) in a magnetized, collisionless degenerate plasma system for describing collective plasma oscillations in dense quantum plasmas with relativistically degenerate electrons, oppositely charged inertial ions, and positively charged immobile heavy elements is investigated theoretically. The perturbations of the magnetized quantum plasma are studied employing the reductive perturbation technique to derive the Korteweg-de Vries (K-dV) and the modified K-dV (mK-dV) equations that admits solitary wave solutions. Chandrasekhar limits are used to inv…
Nonlinear ion-acoustic waves are analyzed in a non-relativistic magnetized quantum plasma with arbitrary degeneracy of electrons. Quantum statistics is taken into account by means of the equation of state for ideal fermions at arbitrary temperature. Quantum diffraction is described by a modified Bohm potential consistent with finite temperature quantum kinetic theory in the long wavelength limit. The dispersion relation of the obliquely propagating electrostatic waves in magnetized quantum plasma with arbitrary degeneracy of electrons is obtained. Using the reductive perturbation method, the c…
The propagation of surface electromagnetic waves along a uniform magnetic field is studied in a quantum electron-hole semiconductor plasma. A new forward propagating mode, not reported before, is found by the effect of quantum tunneling, which otherwise does not exist. In the classical limit ($\hbar\rightarrow 0$) one of the low-frequency modes is found similar to an experimentally observed one in $n$-type InSb at room temperature. The surface modes are shown to be significantly modified in the case of high-conductivity semiconductor plasmas where electrons and holes may be degenerate. The eff…
It is shown that in degenerate magnetized Fermi-Dirac plasma where the electron-orbital are quantized distinct quantum hydrodynamic (QHD) limits exist in which the nonlinear density waves behave differently. The Coulomb interaction among degenerate electrons affect the electrostatic nonlinear wave dynamics more significant in the ground-state Landau quantization or the so-called quantum-limit ($l=0$) rather than in the classical-limit ($l=\infty$). It is also remarked that the effective electron quantum potential unlike the number-density and degeneracy pressure is independent of the applied m…
The dispersion properties of elliptically polarized electromagnetic (EM) waves in a magnetized electron-positron-pair (EP-pair) plasma are studied with the effects of particle dispersion associated with the Bohm potential, the Fermi degenerate pressure, and the exchange-correlation force. Two possible modes of the extraordinary or X wave, modified by these quantum effects, are identified and their propagation characteristics are investigated numerically. It is shown that the upper-hybrid frequency, and the cutoff and resonance frequencies are no longer constants but are dispersive due to these…
The linear stability of a magnetized plasma accompanying temperature gradient was reexamined by using plasma kinetic theory. The anisotropic velocity distribution function was decomposed into two components. One is proportional to the temperature gradient parallel to and the other is proportional to the temperature gradient perpendicular to the back ground magnetic field. Since the amplitude of the anisotropic velocity distribution function is proportional to the heat conductivity and the heat conductivities perpendicular to the magnetic field is strongly reduced, the first component of the an…
A theoretical investigation has been carried out on the propagation of nonlinear ion-acoustic shock waves (IASHWs) in a collsionless magnetized degenerate quantum plasma system composed of inertial non-relativistic positively charged light and heavy ions, inertialess ultra-relativistically degenerate electrons and positrons. The reductive perturbation method has been employed to drive the Burgers' equation. It has been observed that under consideration, our plasma model supports only positive potential shock structure. It is also found that the amplitude and steepness of the IASHWs have been s…
The transport of the energy contained in electrons, both thermal and suprathermal, in solar flares plays a key role in our understanding of many aspects of the flare phenomenon, from the spatial distribution of hard X-ray emission to global energetics. Motivated by recent {\em RHESSI} observations that point to the existence of a mechanism that confines electrons to the coronal parts of flare loops more effectively than Coulomb collisions, we here consider the impact of pitch-angle scattering off turbulent magnetic fluctuations on the parallel transport of electrons in flaring coronal loops. I…
Oblique propagation of the spin-electron acoustic waves in degenerate magnetized plasmas is considered in terms of quantum kinetics with the separate spin evolution, where the spin-up electrons and the spin-down electrons are considered as two different species with different equilibrium distributions. It is considered in the electrostatic limit. Corresponding dispersion equation is derived. Analytical analysis of the dispersion equation is performed in the long-wavelength limit to find an approximate dispersion equation describing the spin-electron acoustic wave. The approximate dispersion eq…
A plasma under the influence of an external magnetic field changes the optical properties due to the Zeeman splitting of the energy levels. This splitting degenerates an initial single spectral line into a system of spectral lines with different transition frequencies defined by the electronic structure of the energy levels. Newly created magnetic sub-levels redefine the spectral profile of the line emission and therefore radiation transport mechanism in optically thick plasma. Self-absorption which defines the excited state-densities is an important mechanism and can be used with other method…
Symplectic integrators offer many advantages for the numerical solution of Hamiltonian differential equations, including bounded energy error and the preservation of invariant sets. Two of the central Hamiltonian systems encountered in plasma physics --- the flow of magnetic field lines and the guiding center motion of magnetized charged particles --- resist symplectic integration by conventional means because the dynamics are most naturally formulated in non-canonical coordinates, i.e., coordinates lacking the familiar $(q, p)$ partitioning. Recent efforts made progress toward non-canonical s…
Quantum hydrodynamic (QHD) model of charged spin-1/2 particles contains physical quantities defined for all particles of a species including particles with spin-up and with spin-down. Different population of states with different spin direction is included in the spin density (magnetization). In this paper we derive a QHD model, which separately describes spin-up electrons and spin-down electrons. Hence we consider electrons with different projection of spin on the preferable direction as two different species of particles. We show that numbers of particles with different spin direction do not…
In this paper we develop a new method to study the plasmon energy band structure in multispecies plasmas. Using this method, we investigate plasmon dispersion band structure of different plasma systems with arbitrary degenerate electron fluid. The linearized Schrödinger-Poisson model is used to derive appropriate coupled pseudoforce system from which the energy dispersion structure is calculated. It is shown that the introduction of ion mobility, beyond the jellium (static ion) model with a wide plasmon energy band gap, can fundamentally modify the plasmon dispersion character leading to a new…
