Generalizations of the Hermite polynomials to many variables and/or to the complex domain have been located in mathematical and physical literature for some decades. Polynomials traditionally called complex Hermite ones are mostly understood as polynomials in $z$ and $\bar{z}$ which in fact makes them polynomials in two real variables with complex coefficients. The present paper proposes to investigate for the first time holomorphic Hermite polynomials in two variables. Their algebraic and analytic properties are developed here. While the algebraic properties do not differ too much for those considered so far, their analytic features are based on a kind of non-rotational orthogonality invented by van Eijndhoven and Meyers. Inspired by their invention we merely follow the idea of Bargmann's seminal paper (1961) giving explicit construction of reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces based on those polynomials. "Homotopic" behavior of our new formation culminates in comparing it to the very classical Bargmann space of two variables on one edge and the aforementioned Hermite polynomials in $z$ and $\bar{z}$ on the other. Unlike in the case of Bargmann's basis our Hermite polynomials are not product ones but factorize to it when bonded together with the first case of limit properties leading both to the Bargmann basis and suitable form of the reproducing kernel. Also in the second limit we recover standard results obeyed by Hermite polynomials in $z$ and $\bar{z}$.
In 1990 van Eijnghoven and Meyers introduced systems of holomorphic Hermite functions and reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces associated with the systems on the complex plane. Moreover they studied the relationship between the family of all their Hilbert spaces and a class of Gelfand-Shilov functions. After that, their systems of holomorphic Hermite functions have been applied to studying quantization on the complex plane, combinatorics, and etc. On the other hand, the author recently introduced systems of holomorphic Hermite functions associated with ellipses on the complex plane. The present p…
We study the orthogonal complement of the Hilbert subspace considered by by van Eijndhoven and Meyers in [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 146 (1990), no. 1, 89--98} and associated to holomorphic Hermite polynomials. A polyanalytic orthonormal basis is given and the explicit expressions of the corresponding reproducing kernel functions and Segal--Bargmann integral transforms are provided.
We express Wronskian Hermite polynomials in the Hermite basis and obtain an explicit formula for the coefficients. From this we deduce an upper bound for the modulus of the roots in the case of partitions of length 2. We also derive a general upper bound for the modulus of the real and purely imaginary roots. These bounds are very useful in the study of irreducibility of Wronskian Hermite polynomials. Additionally, we generalize some of our results to a larger class of polynomials.
In this paper we characterize the Rogers q-Hermite polynomials as the only orthogonal polynomial set which is also ${\cal D}_q$-Appell where ${\cal D}_q $ is the Askey-Wilson finite difference operator.
We shall establish two-side explicit inequalities, which are asymptotically sharp up to a constant factor, on the maximum value of $|H_k(x)| e^{-x^2/2},$ on the real axis, where $H_k$ are the Hermite polynomials.
The main purpose of this paper is to introduce and investigate the various properties of a new generalization of Apostol Hermite-Genocchi polynomials. We derive many useful results involving new generalized Apostol Hermite-Genocchi polynomials. We also consider some statistical application of the new family in probability distribution theory and reliability.
We introduce a class of doubly indexed real Hermite polynomials and we deal with their related properties like the associated recurrence formulae, Runge's addition formula, generating function and Nielsen's identity.
We examine the energy function with respect to the zeros of exceptional Hermite polynomials. The localization of the eigenvalues of the Hessian is given in the general case. In some special arrangements we have a more precise result on the behavior of the energy function. Finally we investigate the energy function with respect to the regular zeros of the exceptional Hermite polynomials.
This paper studies a suitably normalized set of generalized Hermite polynomials and sets down a relevant Mehler formula, Rodrigues formula, and generalized translation operator. Weighted generalized Hermite polynomials are the eigenfunctions of a generalized Fourier transform which satisfies an F. and M. Riesz theorem on the absolute continuity of analytic measures. The Bose-like oscillator calculus, which generalizes the calculus associated with the quantum mechanical simple harmonic oscillator, is studied in terms of these polynomials.
We use generating functions to express orthogonality relations in the form of $q$-beta integrals. The integrand of such a $q$-beta integral is then used as a weight function for a new set of orthogonal or biorthogonal
Let $\mathbb{R}=(-\infty,\infty)$, and let $Q\in C^1(\mathbb{R}): \mathbb{R}\rightarrow \mathbb{R^+}=[0,\infty)$ be an even function, which is an exponent. We consider the weight $w_ρ(x)=|x|^ρ e^{-Q(x)}$, $ρ\geqslant 0$, $x\in \mathbb{R}$, and then we can construct the orthonormal polynomials $p_{n}(w_ρ^2;x)$ of degree n for $w_ρ^2(x)$. In this paper we obtain $L_p$-convergence theorems of even order Hermite-Fejér interpolation polynomials at the zeros $\left\{x_{k,n,ρ}\right\}_{k=1}^n$ of $p_{n}(w_ρ^2;x)$.
The bispectral anti-isomorphism is applied to differential operators involving elements of the stabilizer ring to produce explicit formulas for all difference operators having any of the Hermite exceptional orthogonal polynomials as eigenfunctions with eigenvalues that are polynomials in $x$.
We analyze the Hermite polynomials $H_{n}(x)$ and their zeros asymptotically, as $n\to\infty.$ We obtain asymptotic approximations from the differential-difference equation which they satisfy, using the ray method. We give numerical examples showing the accuracy of our formulas.
The goal of this paper is to present a Dunkl-Gamma type operator with the help of two-variable Hermite polynomials and to derive its approximating properties via the classical modulus of continuity, second modulus of continuity and Peetre's $K$-functional.
In this paper we prove in a constructing way that exceptional Charlier, Meixner, Hermite and Laguerre polynomials satisfy higher order recurrence relations. Our conjecture is that the recurrence relations provided in this paper have minimal order.
The aim of this paper is to construct generating functions for new families of special polynomials including the Appel polynomials, the Hermite-Kampè de Fèriet polynomials, the Milne-Thomson type polynomials, parametric kinds of Apostol type numbers and polynomials. Using Euler's formula, relations among special functions, Hermite-type polynomials, the Chebyshev polynomials and the Dickson polynomials are given. Using generating functions and their functional equations, various formulas and identities are given. With help of computational formula for new families of special polynomials, some o…
We analyze the polynomials $H_{n}^{r}(x)$ considered by Gould and Hopper, which generalize the classical Hermite polynomials. We present the main properties of $H_{n}^{r}(x)$ and derive asymptotic approximations for large values of $n$ from their differential-difference equation, using a discrete ray method. We give numerical examples showing the accuracy of our formulas.
The q-Hermite I-Sobolev type polynomials of higher order are consider for their study. Their hypergeometric representation is provided together with further useful properties such as several structure relations which give rise to a three-term recurrence relation of their elements. Two different q-difference equations satisfied by the q-Hermite I-Sobolev type polynomials of higher order are also established.
The bilinear generating function for products of two Laguerre 2D polynomials Lm;n(z; z0) with different arguments is calculated. It corresponds to the formula of Mehler for the generating function of products of two Hermite polynomials. Furthermore, the generating function for mixed products of Laguerre 2D and Hermite 2D polynomials and for products of two Hermite 2D polynomials is calculated. A set of infinite sums over products of two Laguerre 2D polynomials as intermediate step to the generating function for products of Laguerre 2D polynomials is evaluated but these sums possess also proper…
We consider a generalization of the classical Hermite polynomials by the addition of terms involving derivatives in the inner product. This type of generalization has been studied in the literature from the point of view of the algebraic properties. Thus, our aim is to study the asymptotics of this sequence of nonstandard orthogonal polynomials. In fact, we obtain Mehler--Heine type formulas for these polynomials and, as a consequence, we prove that there exists an acceleration of the convergence of the smallest positive zeros of these generalized Hermite polynomials towards the origin.
The aim of this paper is to introduce a Dunkl generalization of the operators including two variable Hermite polynomials which are defined by Krech [14](Krech, G. A note on some positive linear operators associated with the Hermite polynomials, Carpathian J. Math., 32 (1) (2016), 71--77) and to investigate approximating properties for these operators by means of the classical modulus of continuity, second modulus of continuity and Peetre's K-functional.
Using Casorati determinants of Charlier polynomials, we construct for each finite set $F$ of positive integers a sequence of polynomials $r_n^F$, $n\in σ_F$, which are eigenfunction of a second order difference operator, where $σ_F$ is an infinite set of nonnegative integers, $σ_F \varsubsetneq \NN$. For certain finite sets $F$ (we call them admissible sets), we prove that the polynomials $r_n^F$, $n\in σ_F$, are actually exceptional Charlier polynomials; that is, in addition, they are orthogonal and complete with respect to a positive measure. By passing to the limit, we transform the Casorat…
We prove a generalization of the Kibble--Slepian formula (for Hermite polynomials) and its unitary analogue involving the $2$D Hermite polynomials recently proved in \cite{Ism4}. We derive integral representations for the $2$D Hermite polynomials which are of independent interest. Several new generating functions for $2$D $q$-Hermite polynomials will also be given.
We present a new family $\left\{ S_{n}(x;q)\right\} _{n\geq 0}$ of monic polynomials in $x$, orthogonal with respect to a Sobolev-type inner product related to the $q$-Hermite I orthogonal polynomials, involving a first-order $q$-derivative on a mass-point $α\in \mathbb{R}$ located out of the corresponding orthogonality interval $[-1,1]$, for some fixed real number $q \in (0, 1)$. We present connection formulas, and the annihilation operator for this non-standard orthogonal polynomial family.
A new characterization of the generalized Hermite polynomials and of the orthogonal polynomials with respect to the maesure $|x|^\g (1-x^2)^{\a-1/2}dx$ is derived which is based on a "reversing property" of the coefficients in the corresponding recurrence formulas and does not use the representation in terms of generalized Laguerre and Jacobi polynomials. A similar characterization can be obtained for a generalization of the sieved ultraspherical polynomials of the first and second kind. These results are applied in order to determine the asymptotic limit distribution for the zeros when the de…
We analyze the Hermite polynomials $H_{n}(ξ)$ and their zeros asymptotically as $n\to\infty,$ using the limit relation between the Charlier and Hermite polynomials. Our formulas involve some special functions and they yield very accurate approximations.
In this article we go deeply into the formulation and meaning of the monomiality principle and employ it to study the properties of a set of polynomials, which, asymptotically, reduce to the ordinary two variable Kampe de Feriet family. We derive the relevant differential equations and discuss the associated orthogonality properties, along with the relevant generalized forms.
If a real polynomial $f(x)=p(x^2)+xq(x^2)$ is Hurwitz stable (every root if $f$ lies in the open left half-plane), then the Hermite-Biehler Theorem says that the polynomials $p(-x^2)$ and $q(-x^2)$ have interlacing real roots. We extend this result to general polynomials by giving a lower bound on the number of real roots of $p(-x^2)$ and $q(-x^2)$ and showing that these real roots interlace. This bound depends on the number of roots of $f$ which lie in the left half plane. Another classical result in the theory of polynomials is Descartes' Rule of Signs, which bounds the number of positive ro…
We establish best possible pointwise (up to a constant multiple) estimates for approximation, on a finite interval, by polynomials that satisfy finitely many (Hermite) interpolation conditions, and show that these estimates cannot be improved. In particular, we show that {\bf any} algebraic polynomial of degree $n$ approximating a function $f\in C^r(I)$, $I=[-1,1]$, at the classical pointwise rate $ρ_n^r(x) ω_k(f^{(r)}, ρ_n(x))$, where $ρ_n(x)=n^{-1}\sqrt{1-x^2}+n^{-2}$, and (Hermite) interpolating $f$ and its derivatives up to the order $r$ at a point $x_0\in I$, has the best possible pointwi…
Multiple Hermite polynomials are an extension of the classical Hermite polynomials for which orthogonality conditions are imposed with respect to $r>1$ normal (Gaussian) weights $w_j(x)=e^{-x^2+c_jx}$ with different means $c_j/2$, $1 \leq j \leq r$. These polynomials have a number of properties, such as a Rodrigues formula, recurrence relations (connecting polynomials with nearest neighbor multi-indices), a differential equation, etc. The asymptotic distribution of the (scaled) zeros is investigated and an interesting new feature happens: depending on the distance between the $c_j$, $1 \leq j …
It is shown that when dependence on the second flow of the KP hierarchy is added, the resulting semi-stationary wave function of certain points in George Wilson's adelic Grassmannian are generating functions of the exceptional Hermite orthogonal polynomials. This surprising correspondence between different mathematical objects that were not previously known to be so closely related is interesting in its own right, but also proves useful in two ways: it leads to new algorithms for effectively computing the associated differential and difference operators and it also answers some open questions …
Two well-known $q$-Hermite polynomials are the continuous and discrete $q$-Hermite polynomials. In this paper we consider a new family of $q$-Hermite polynomials and prove several curious properties about these polynomials. One striking property is the connection with $q$-Fibonacci and $q$-Lucas polynomials. The latter relation yields a generalization of the Touchard-Riordan formula.
The new method for obtaining a variety of extensions of Hermite polynomials is given. As a first example a family of orthogonal polynomial systems which includes the generalized Hermite polynomials is considered. Apparently, either these polynomials satisfy the differential equation of the second order obtained in this work or there is no differential equation of a finite order for these polynomials.
In the present paper, we deal mainly with arithmetic properties of Legendre polynomials by using their orthogonality property. We show that Legendre polynomials are proportional with Bernoulli, Euler, Hermite and Bernstein polynomials.
For the oscillator-like systems, connected with q-Hermite polynomials, coherent states of Barut-Girardello type are defined. The well-known Arik-Coon oscillator naturally arose in the framework of suggested approach as oscillator, connected with the Rogers q-Hermite polynomials, in the same way as usual oscillator with standard Hermite polynomials. The results about the coherent states for discrete q-Hermite polynomials of II type are quite new.
The continuous big $q$-Hermite polynomials are shown to realize a basis for a representation space of an extended $q$-oscillator algebra. An expansion formula is algebraically derived using this model.
We introduce two classes of $(p,q)$-Itô--Hermite polynomials, the post-quantum analogs of the $q$-Itô--Hermite polynomials introduced recently by Ismail and Zhang. We study their basic properties such as their operational formulas of Rodrigues type, the corresponding raising and lowering operators as well as their generating functions and the $(p,p$-differential equations they obey.
We show that the only polynomial sets with a generating function of the form F (xt -- R(t)) and satisfying a three-term recursion relation are the monomial set and the rescaled ultraspherical, Hermite, and Chebyshev polynomials of the first kind.
We study Wronskians of Hermite polynomials labelled by partitions and use the combinatorial concepts of cores and quotients to derive explicit expressions for their coefficients. These coefficients can be expressed in terms of the characters of irreducible representations of the symmetric group, and also in terms of hook lengths. Further, we derive the asymptotic behaviour of the Wronskian Hermite polynomials when the length of the core tends to infinity, while fixing the quotient. Via this combinatorial setting, we obtain in a natural way the generalization of the correspondence between Hermi…
We study the zeros of exceptional Hermite polynomials associated with an even partition $λ$. We prove several conjectures regarding the asymptotic behavior of both the regular (real) and the exceptional (complex) zeros. The real zeros are distributed as the zeros of usual Hermite polynomials and, after contracting by a factor $\sqrt{2n}$, we prove that they follow the semi-circle law. The non-real zeros tend to the zeros of the generalized Hermite polynomial $H_λ$, provided that these zeros are simple. It was conjectured by Veselov that the zeros of generalized Hermite polynomials are always s…
We study the logarihtnmic asymptotic of multiple orthogonal polynomials arising in a mixed type Hermite-Padé approximation problem associated with the rational perturbation of a Nikishin system of functions. The formulas obtained allow to give exact estimates of the rate of convergence of the corresponding Hermite-Padé approximants.
We study the irreducibility of Wronskian Hermite polynomials labelled by partitions. It is known that these polynomials factor as a power of x times a remainder polynomial. We show that the remainder polynomial is irreducible for the partitions (n, m) with m <= 2, and (n, n) when n + 1 is a square. Our main tools are two theorems that we prove for all partitions. The first result gives a sharp upper bound for the slope of the edges of the Newton polygon for the remainder polynomial. The second result is a Schur-type congruence for Wronskian Hermite polynomials. We also explain how irreducibili…
We show how the combined use of the generating function method and of the theory of multivariable Hermite polynomials is naturally suited to evaluate integrals of gaussian functions and of multiple products of Hermite polynomials.
The effective formulas reducing the two-dimensional Hermite polynomials to the classical (one-dimensional) orthogonal polynomials are given. New one-parameter generating functions for these polynomials are derived. Asymptotical formulas for large values of indices are found. The applications to the squeezed one-mode states and to the time-dependent quantum harmonic oscillator are considered.
In this paper we revisit exceptional Hermite polynomials from the point of view of spectral theory, following the work initiated by Lance Littlejohn. Adapting a result of Deift, we provide an alternative proof of the completeness of these polynomial families. In addition, using equivalence of Hermite Wronskians we characterize the possible gap sets for the class of exceptional Hermite polynomials.
We review properties of the $q-$Hermite polynomials and indicate their links with the Chebyshev, Rogers--Szegö, Al-Salam--Chihara, continuous $q-$% utraspherical polynomials. In particular we recall the connection coefficients between these families of polynomials. We also present some useful and important finite and infinite expansions involving polynomials of these families including symmetric and non-symmetric kernels. In the paper we collect scattered throughout literature useful but not widely known facts concerning these polynomials. It is based on 43 positions of predominantly recent li…
We investigate the global density of zeros of generalized Hermite orthogonal polynomials, subject to certain truncated conditions on its weight. We shall given explicitly the global density of zeros under some asymptotic conditions on the weight. Moreover we compute the asymptotic of the total energy of the equilibrium position of the system of $n$ movable unit charges in an external field determined by the weight of the generalized Hermite polynomials. We will see that for finite $n$ the energy is in direct relationship with the zeros of the orthogonal polynomials.
In this paper, the structures to a family of biorthogonal polynomials that approximate to the Hermite and Generalized Laguerre polynomials are discussed respectively. Therefore, the asymptotic relation between several orthogonal polynomials and combinatorial polynomials are derived from the systems, which in turn verify the Askey scheme of hypergeometric orthogonal polynomials. As the applications of these properties, the asymptotic representations of the generalized Buchholz, Laguerre, Ultraspherical(Gegenbauer), Bernoulli, Euler, Meixner and Meixner-Pllaczekare polynomials are derived from t…
We consider polynomials that are defined as Wronskians of certain sets of Hermite polynomials. Our main result is a recurrence relation for these polynomials in terms of those of one or two degrees smaller, which generalizes the well-known three term recurrence relation for Hermite polynomials. The polynomials are defined using partitions of natural numbers, and the coefficients in the recurrence relation can be expressed in terms of the number of standard Young tableaux of these partitions. Using the recurrence relation, we provide another recurrence relation and show that the average of the …
We show that the only orthogonal polynomials with a generating function of the form $F(x z - αz^2)$ are the ultraspherical, Hermite, and Chebyshev polynomials of the first kind. For special $F$ for which this is the case, we then finish the classification of orthogonal polynomials with more general generating functions $F(x w(z) - R(z))$.
The Clifford-Hermite and the Clifford-Gegenbauer polynomials of standard Clifford analysis are generalized to the new framework of Clifford analysis in superspace in a merely symbolic way. This means that one does not a priori need an integration theory in superspace. Furthermore a lot of basic properties, such as orthogonality relations, differential equations and recursion formulae are proven. Finally, an interesting physical application of the super Clifford-Hermite polynomials is discussed, thus giving an interpretation to the super-dimension.
Based on the Hermite--Biehler theorem, we simultaneously prove the real-rootedness of Eulerian polynomials of type $D$ and the real-rootedness of affine Eulerian polynomials of type $B$, which were first obtained by Savage and Visontai by using the theory of $\mathbf{s}$-Eulerian polynomials. We also confirm Hyatt's conjectures on the interlacing property of half Eulerian polynomials. Borcea and Brändén's work on the characterization of linear operators preserving Hurwitz stability is critical to this approach.
