Education is a key factor in ensuring economic growth, especially for countries with growing economies. Today, students have become more technologically savvy as teaching and learning uses more advance technology day in, day out. Due to virtualize resources through the Internet, as well as dynamic scalability, cloud computing has continued to be adopted by more organizations. Despite the looming financial crisis, there has been increasing pressure for educational institutions to deliver better services using minimal resources. Leaning institutions, both public and private can utilize the potential advantage of cloud computing to ensure high quality service regardless of the minimal resources available. Cloud computing is taking a center stage in academia because of its various benefits. Various learning institutions use different cloud-based applications provided by the service providers to ensure that their students and other users can perform both academic as well as business-related tasks. Thus, this research will seek to establish the benefits associated with the use of cloud computing in learning institutions. The solutions provided by the cloud technology ensure that the research and development, as well as the teaching is more sustainable and efficient, thus positively influencing the quality of learning and teaching within educational institutions. This has led to various learning institutions adopting cloud technology as a solution to various technological challenges they face on a daily routine.
New mobile platforms, connected seamlessly to the Internet via wireless access have become increasingly more powerful and have found usage in a diverse set of application areas, including the education sector. The educational institutions are becoming more open to embracing new learning platforms, which in turn has sparked the interest in developing new assessment frameworks. This paper has used the framework of the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) to design a model for M-learning within educational institutions. The framework has been validated with studies cases from higher education institut…
The aim of this paper is to study m-learning literature in order to propose and develop a privacy-preserving framework which can be used to foster sustainable deployment of mobile learning within open and distance education in Kenya. Location-based privacy in mobile learning is essential to retain users trust, key to influencing usage intention. Any risk on privacy can negatively affect users perceptions of a systems reliability and trustworthiness. While extant studies have proposed frameworks for mobile technologies adoption into learning, few have integrated privacy aspects and their influe…
When learning technologies are introduced in educational environments, it is assumed that the educational environment is culture neutral i.e, all educational environments have the same challenges, problems and cultural norms. However, it can be observed that cultural factors can influence the successful implementation and use of learning technologies. In this study the aims were to explore contextual challenges to implementing different educational technologies and to explore the effects of culture. The results of this survey suggest that Hofstede's cultural measures of uncertainty avoidance, …

This paper examines the dynamics of policy implementation and how policy contradicts reality on the ground when it comes to practice. The paper finds that despite having well-laid out policy; the actual practice is contrary. Taking data storage policy within the Ministry of Health in Malawi as a case study, the paper highlights that the contextual realities of where Ministry of Health (MoH) data is stored depends on a number of Technology-Organizational-Environmental (TOE) factors. In the wake of cloud computing; some of these factors act as causative factors for data to be stored in the cloud…
Open Source Software (OSS) has been widely used in the educational environment largely due to its reduced cost of ownership. While OSS has evolved over the years, challenges exist in its implementation and wide adoption. Foremost among these detriments is the lack of available skills across industries. Since future users of this technology will settle in an organizational ecosystem where proprietary and OSS technologies coexist, it is vital to understand their learning environment where they initially acquire their technology skills. The University implements courses that champion the use of o…
The telecommunications sector in Iraq is one of the most dynamic and active industries. This sector has prime importance only next to oil & gas, as revealed by recent reports. This industry has grown in leaps and bounds with the rising demand for mobile services. Mobile services were inaccessible prior to 2003. As of 2016, there are 29 million mobile telephone subscribers, with only 2.3 million fixed-line users. With the easy availability of telephone services, the telecommunication sector has reported a rapid boom. Subsequent to the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime on April 9, 2003, mobile com…
In the past few years, the use of new technologies and digital, educational material has been increasing. Owing to the situation brought about in Spain by the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic, schools have closed and families were asked to confine at home since March 2020. During this period there has been a need of resources to be made available to the families and teachers so that they would be able to continue their teaching practice. Consequently, this study analyzes the importance of online methodologies and usage tendency of an educational resource example: The Smile and Learn platform. Th…
