We consider a very general scenario of our universe where its geometry is characterized by the Finslerian structure on the underlying spacetime manifold, a generalization of the Riemannian geometry. Now considering a general energy-momentum tensor for matter sector, we derive the gravitational field equations in such spacetime. Further, to depict the cosmological dynamics in such spacetime proposing an interesting equation of state identified by a sole parameter $γ$ which for isotropic limit is simply the barotropic equation of state $p= (γ- 1) ρ$ ($γ\in \mathbb{R}$ being the barotropic index), we solve the background dynamics. The dynamics offers several possibilities depending on this sole parameter as follows $-$ (i) only an exponential expansion, or (ii) a finite time past singualrity (big bang) with late accelerating phase, or (iii) a nonsingular universe exhibiting an accelerating scenario at late time which finally predicts a big rip type singularity. We also discuss several energy conditions and the possibility of cosmic bounce. Finally, we establish the first law of thermodynamics in such spacetime.
We perform the first comprehensive constraints on two Finslerian models, i.e., the simplest Finslerian $Λ$CDM (F$Λ$) and non-flat F$Λ$ models using the Type Ia supernovae, baryonic acoustic oscillations, cosmic microwave background and lensing observations. Using the most stringent constraints we can provide, we find that the constrained typical parameters of both Finslerian models are all consistent with zero at the $2σ$ confidence level (C.L.). This means that both Finslerian models just deviate very slightly from the $Λ$CDM one, which is also verified by using two geometrical diagnostics to…
The density perturbation of the universe has been considered in the framework of a Finslerian cosmological model in which the background spacetime of the universe is taken as the spatially flat FLRW spacetime with a Finslerian perturbation. The inhomogeneity in the matter(energy) density arises naturally in this consideration of gravity in the $( α, β)$ - Finsler space for the background spacetime of the universe. The resulting inhomogeneous matter density indicates matter perturbation departing from the uniform density, and it is caused by the Finslerian perturbation in the Riemannian spaceti…
Due to the accelerated expansion of the universe, the possibility of formation of singularities has changed from the classical Big Bang and Big Crunch singularities to include a number of new scenarios. In recent papers it has been shown that such singularities may appear in inflationary cosmological models with a fractional power scalar field potential. In this paper we enlarge the analysis of singularities in scalar field cosmological models by the use of generalised power expansions of their Hubble scalar and their scalar field in order to describe all possible models leading to a singulari…
We study the future cosmological singularities in the framework of massive gravity and minimal massive bigravity theory. In this regards, we consider the possible classes of finite-time future singularities such as sudden, big rip, big freeze and big brake singularities in the massive universe. In dRGT model with an open expanding universe we obtain the sudden singularity in the future at a finite-time which generally without taking account of any particular realistic equation of state, is not avoidable and except the fluid density, all dynamical physical quantities such as pressure approach t…
In this work, we study the issue of the past and future cosmological singularities in the context of the fourth-order conformal Weyl gravity. In particular, we investigate the emergent universe scenario proposed by Ellis {\it et al}, and find the stability conditions of the corresponding Einstein static state using the fixed point approach. We show that depending on the values of the parameters of the conformal Weyl gravity theory, there are possibilities for having initially stable emergent states for an FRW universe with both the positive and negative spatial curvatures. This represents that…
We consider the conformal Einstein equations for polytropic perfect fluid cosmologies which admit an isotropic singularity. For the polytropic index gamma strictly greater than 1 and less than or equal to 2 it is shown that the Cauchy problem for these equations is well-posed, that is to say that solutions exist, are unique and depend smoothly on the data, with data consisting of simply the 3-metric of the singularity. The analogous result for gamma=1 (dust) is obtained when Bianchi type symmetry is assumed.
In this work, we study the possibility of finite-time future cosmological singularities appearing in $f(R,T)$ gravity, where $R$ is the Ricci scalar and $T$ is the trace of the stress-energy tensor. We present the theory in both the geometrical and the dynamically equivalent scalar-tensor representation and obtain the respective equations of motion. In a background Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) universe with an arbitrary curvature and for a generic $C^\infty$ function $f(R,T)$, we prove that the conservation of the stress-energy tensor prevents the appearance of sudden singulariti…
Canonical quantization of general relativity does not yield a unique quantum theory for gravity. This is in part due to operator ordering ambiguities. In this paper, we investigate the role of different operator orderings on the question of whether a big bang or big crunch singularity occurs. We do this in the context of the minisuperspace model of a Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker universe with Brown-Kuchar dust. We find that for a certain class of operator orderings such a singularity is eliminated without having to impose boundary conditions.
The present accelerated expansion of the universe has enriched the list of possible scenarios for its fate, singular or not. In this paper a unifying framework for analyzing such behaviors is proposed, based on generalized power and asymptotic expansions of the barotropic index $w$, or equivalently of the deceleration parameter $q$, in terms of the time coordinate. Besides well known singular and non-singular future behaviors, other types of strong singularities appear around the phantom divide in flat models, with features similar to those of big rip or big bang/crunch, which we have dubbed g…
