We investigate the structure of real hypersurfaces with isometric Reeb flow in Kaehler manifolds. As an application we classify real hypersurfaces with isometric Reeb flow in irreducible Hermitian symmetric spaces of compact type.
We classify real hypersurfaces with isometric Reeb flow in the complex quadrics Q^m for m > 2. We show that m is even, say m = 2k, and any such hypersurface is an open part of a tube around a k-dimensional complex projective space CP^k which is embedded canonically in Q^{2k} as a totally geodesic complex submanifold. As a consequence we get the non-existence of real hypersurfaces with isometric Reeb flow in odd-dimensional complex quadrics.
We classify real hypersurfaces with isometric Reeb flow in the complex hyperbolic quadrics ${Q^*}^{m} = SO^{o}_{2,m}/SO_mSO_2$, $m \geq 3$. We show that $m$ is even, say $m = 2k$, and any such hypersurface becomes an open part of a tube around a $k$-dimensional complex hyperbolic space ${\mathbb C}H^k$ which is embedded canonically in ${Q^*}^{2k}$ as a totally geodesic complex submanifold or a horosphere whose center at infinity is $\frak A$-isotropic singular. As a consequence of the result, we get the non-existence of real hypersurfaces with isometric Reeb flow in odd-dimensional complex qua…
We classify all of real hypersurfaces $M$ with Reeb invariant shape operator in complex hyperbolic two-plane Grassmannians $SU_{2,m}/S(U_2{\cdot}U_m)$, $m \geq 2$. Then it becomes a tube over a totally geodesic $SU_{2,m-1}/S(U_2{\cdot}U_{m-1})$ in $SU_{2,m}/S(U_2{\cdot}U_m)$ or a horosphere whose center at infinity is singular and of type $JN \in {\mathfrak J}N$ for a unit normal vector field $N$ of $M$.
We investigate isometric immersions of locally conformally Kaehler metrics into Hopf manifolds. In particular, we study Hopf-induced metrics on compact complex surfaces.
We present several local and global results on isometric immersions of Kaehler manifolds $M^{2n}$ into hyperbolic space $\Hy^{2n+p}$. For instance, a classification is given in the case of dimension $n\geq 4$ and codimension $p=2$. Moreover, as corollaries of general results, we conclude that there are no isometric immersion in codimension $p\leq n-2$ if the Kaehler manifold is of dimension $n\geq 4$ and either has a point of positive holomorphic sectional curvature or is compact.
We show that generic rank conditions on the second fundamental form of an isometric immersion $f\colon M^{2n}\to\mathbb{R}^{2n+p}$ of a Kaehler manifold of complex dimension $n\geq 2$ into Euclidean space with low codimension $p$ implies that the submanifold has to be minimal. If $M^{2n}$ if simply connected, this amounts to the existence of a one-parameter associated family of isometric minimal immersions unless $f$ is holomorphic.
Let $f\colon M^{2n}\to\mathbb{R}^{2n+4}$ be an isometric immersion of a Kaehler manifold of complex dimension $n\geq 5$ into Euclidean space with complex rank at least $5$ everywhere. Our main result is that, along each connected component of an open dense subset of $M^{2n}$, either $f$ is holomorphic in $\mathbb{R}^{2n+4}\cong\mathbb{C}^{n+2}$ or it is in a unique way a composition $f=F\circ h$ of isometric immersions. In the latter case, we have that $h\colon M^{2n}\to N^{2n+2}$ is holomorphic and $F\colon N^{2n+2}\to\mathbb{R}^{2n+4}$ belongs to the class, by now quite well understood, of n…
We call a quaternionic Kaehler manifold with non-zero scalar curvature, whose quaternionic structure is trivialized by a hypercomplex structure, a hyper-Hermitian quaternionic Kaehler manifold. We prove that every locally symmetric hyper-Hermitian quaternionic Kaehler manifold is locally isometric to the quaternionic projective space or to the quaternionic hyperbolic space. We describe locally the hyper-Hermitian quaternionic Kaehler manifolds with closed Lee form and show that the only complete simply connected such manifold is the quaternionic hyperbolic space.
We classify isometric actions of compact Lie groups on quaternionic-Kähler projective spaces with vanishing homogeneity rank. We also show that they are not in general quaternion-coisotropic.
Let M be a six dimensional manifold, endowed with a cohomogeneity one action of G= SU_2 x SU_2, and M_reg its subset of regular points. We show that M_reg admits a smooth, 2-parameter family of G-invariant, non-isometric strict nearly Kaehler structures and that a 1-parameter subfamily of such structures smoothly extend over a singular orbit of type S^3. This determines a new class of examples of nearly Kaehler structures on TS^3
Let $f\colon M^{2n}\to\mathbb{R}^{2n+\ell}$, $n \geq 5$, denote a conformal immersion into Euclidean space with codimension $\ell$ of a Kaehler manifold of complex dimension $n$ and free of flat points. For codimensions $\ell=1,2$ we show that such a submanifold can always be locally obtained in a rather simple way, namely, from an isometric immersion of the Kaehler manifold $M^{2n}$ into either $\mathbb{R}^{2n+1}$ or $\mathbb{R}^{2n+2}$, the latter being a class of submanifolds already extensively studied.
In this paper we show that two Kähler manifolds which do not share a Kähler submanifold, do not share either a Levi degenerate CR-submanifold with constant dimension Levi kernel. In particular, they do not share a CR-product. Further, we obtain that a Levi degenerate CR-submanifold of $\mathbb C^n$ cannot be isometrically immersed into a flag manifold.
We investigate the existence of a holomorphic and isometric immersion in the complex projective space for the complete Ricci-flat Kaehler metrics constructed by M. B. Stenzel on the cotangent bundle of a compact, rank one, globally symmetric space.
Let M be a positive quaternionic Kaehler manifold of dimension 4m. If the isometry group Isom(M) has rank at least m/2 +3, then M is isometric to HP^m or Gr_2(C^{m+2}). The lower bound for the rank is optimal if m is even.
Let M be a compact Sasakian manifold. We show that M admits a CR-embedding into a Sasakian manifold diffeomorphic to a sphere, and this embedding is compatible with the respective Reeb fields. We argue that a stronger embedding theorem cannot be obtained. We use an extension theorem for Kaehler geometry: given a compact Kaehler manifolds $X\subset Y$, and a Kaehler form $ω$ on $X$ which lies in a Kaehler class of $Y$ restricted to $X$, $ω$ can be extended to a Kaehler form on $Y$.
In this paper, we consider the notion of Cotton soliton within the framework of almost Kenmotsu 3-$h$-manifolds. First we consider that the potential vector field is pointwise collinear with the Reeb vector field and prove a non-existence of such Cotton soliton. Next we assume that the potential vector field is orthogonal to the Reeb vector field. It is proved that such a Cotton soliton on a non-Kenmotsu almost Kenmotsu 3-$h$-manifold such that the Reeb vector field is an eigen vector of the Ricci operator is steady and the manifold is locally isometric to $\mathbb{H}^2(-4) \times \mathbb{R}$.
In this paper, we first define the complexification of a real analytic map between real analytic Koszul manifolds and show that the complexified map is the holomorphic extension of the original map. Next we define an anti-Kaehler metric compatible with the adapted complex structure on the complexification of a real analytic pseudo-Riemannian manifold. In particular, for a pseudo-Riemannian homogeneous space, we define another complexification and a (complete) anti-Kaehler metric on the complexification. One of main purposes of this paper is to find the interesting relation between these two co…
Let $M$ be a complete Riemannian manifold and suppose $p\in M$. For each unit vector $v \in T_p M$, the $\textit{Jacobi operator}$, $\mathcal{J}_v: v^\perp \rightarrow v^\perp$ is the symmetric endomorphism, $\mathcal{J}_v(w) = R(w,v)v$. Then $p$ is an $\textit{isotropic point}$ if there exists a constant $κ_p \in \mathbf{R}$ such that $\mathcal{J}_v = κ_p \textit{ Id}_{v^\perp}$ for each unit vector $v \in T_pM$. If all points are isotropic, then $M$ is said to be isotropic; it is a classical result of Schur that isotropic manifolds of dimension at least 3 have constant sectional curvatures. …
We investigate the local geometry of a class of Kähler submanifolds $M \subset \R^n$ which generalize surfaces of constant mean curvature. The role of the mean curvature vector is played by the $(1,1)$-part (i.e. the $dz_id\bar z_j$-components) of the second fundamental form $α$, which we call the pluri-mean curvature. We show that these Kähler submanifolds are characterized by the existence of an associated family of isometric submanifolds with rotated second fundamental form. Of particular interest is the isotropic case where this associated family is trivial. We also investigate the propert…
Concerning the problem of classifying complete submanifolds of Euclidean space with codimension two admitting genuine isometric deformations, until now the only known examples with the maximal possible rank four are the real Kaehler minimal submanifolds classified by Dajczer-Gromoll \cite{dg3} in parametric form. These submanifolds behave like minimal surfaces, namely, if simple connected either they admit a nontrivial one-parameter associated family of isometric deformations or are holomorphic. In this paper, we characterize a new class of complete minimal genuinely deformable Euclidean subma…
A quaternionic Kähler manifold M is called {\it positive} if it has positive scalar curvature. The main purpose of this paper is to prove several connectedness theorems for quaternionic immersions in a quaternionic Kähler manifold, e.g. the Barth-Lefschetz type connectedness theorem for quaternionic submanifolds in a positive quaternionic Kähler manifold. As applications we prove that, among others, a 4m-dimensional positive quaternionic Kähler manifold with symmetry rank at least (m-2) must be either isometric to \Bbb HP^m or Gr_2(\Bbb C^{m+2}), if m\ge 10.
Let $M^n$ be an $n$-dimensional Riemannian manifold with boundary $\partial M$. Assume that Ricci curvature is bounded from below by $(n-1)k$, for $k\in \RR$, we give a sharp estimate of the upper bound of $ρ(x)=\dis(x, \partial M)$, in terms of the mean curvature bound of the boundary. When $\partial M$ is compact, the upper bound is achieved if and only if $M$ is isometric to a disk in space form. A Kaehler version of estimation is also proved. Moreover we prove a Laplace comparison theorem for distance function to the boundary of Kaehler manifold and also estimate the first eigenvalue of th…
We continue the program of Chinea, De Leon and Marrero who studied the topology of cosymplectic manifolds. We study 3-cosymplectic manifolds which are the closest odd-dimensional analogue of hyper-Kaehler structures. We show that there is an action of the Lie algebra so(4,1) on the basic cohomology spaces of a compact 3-cosymplectic manifold with respect to the Reeb foliation. This implies some topological obstructions to the existence of such structures which are expressed by bounds on the Betti numbers. It is known that every 3-cosymplectic manifold is a local Riemannian product of a hyper-K…
Reflection in a line in Euclidean 3-space defines an almost paracomplex structure on the space of all oriented lines, isometric with respect to the canonical neutral Kaehler metric. Beyond Euclidean 3-space, the space of oriented geodesics of any real 3-dimensional space form admits both isometric and anti-isometric paracomplex structures. This paper considers the existence or otherwise of isometric and anti-isometric almost paracomplex structures $j$ on a pseudo-Riemannian 4-manifold $(M,g)$, such that $j$ is parallel with respect to the Levi-Civita connection of $g$. It is shown that if an i…
In this article, we construct a new para-Kähler structure $({\mathcal G},{\mathcal J},Ω)$ in the space of oriented geodesics ${\mathbb L}(M)$ in a non-flat, real space form $M$. We first show that the para-Kähler metric ${\mathcal G}$ is scalar flat and when $M$ is a 3-dimensional real space form, ${\mathcal G}$ is locally conformally flat. Furthermore, we prove that the space of oriented geodesics in hyperbolic $n$-space, equipped with the constructed metric ${\mathcal G}$, is minimally isometric embedded in the tangent bundle of the hyperbolic $n$-space. We then study the submanifold theory,…
We characterize isometric actions on compact Kaehler manifolds admitting a Lagrangian orbit, describing under which condition the Lagrangian orbit is unique. We furthermore give the complete classification of simple groups acting on the complex projective space with a Lagrangian orbit, and we give the explicit list of these orbits.
Many authors have studied Ricci solitons and their analogs within the framework of (almost) contact geometry. In this article, we thoroughly study the $(m,ρ)$-quasi-Einstein structure on a contact metric manifold. First, we prove that if a $K$-contact or Sasakian manifold $M^{2n+1}$ admits a closed $(m,ρ)$-quasi-Einstein structure, then it is an Einstein manifold of constant scalar curvature $2n(2n+1)$, and for the particular case -- a non-Sasakian $(k,μ)$-contact structure -- it is locally isometric to the product of a Euclidean space $\RR^{n+1}$ and a sphere $S^n$ of constant curvature $4$. …
