A quantum phase transition driven by the statistics was observed in an anyon-Hubbard model with local three-body interactions. Using a fractional Jordan-Wigner transformation, we arrived at a modified Bose-Hubbard model, which exhibits Mott insulator and superfluid phases. The absence of a Mott insulator state with one particle per site depends on the anyonic angle, and a quantum phase transition from a superfluid to a Mott insulator state is obtained for a fixed value of the hopping. The critical points were estimated with the von Neumann block entropy and increase as the hopping grows. The statistics modify the ground state, and three different superfluid regions were observed for larger values of the anyonic angle.
Using anyon-fermion mapping method, we investigate the ground state properties of hard-core anyons confined in a one-dimensional harmonic trap. The concise analytical formula of the reduced one-body density matrix are obtained. Basing on the formula, we evaluated the momentum distribution, the natural orbitals and their occupation distributions for different statistical parameters. The occupation and occupation fraction of the lowest natural orbital versus anyon number are also displayed. It is shown that the ground state properties of anyons interplay between Bosons and Fermions continuously.…
Raman-assisted hopping may be used to realize the anyon Hubbard model in one-dimensional optical lattices. We propose a feasible scenario that significantly improves the proposal of [T. Keilmann et al., Nature Commun. 2, 361 (2011)], allowing as well for an exact realization of the two-body hard-core constraint, and for controllable effective interactions without the need of Feshbach resonances. We show that the combination of anyonic statistics and two-body hard-core constraint leads to a rich ground state physics, including Mott insulators with attractive interactions, pair superfluids, dime…
We show that non-abelian potentials acting on ultracold gases with two hyperfine levels can give rise to ground states with non-abelian excitations. We consider a realistic gauge potential for which the Landau levels can be exactly determined: the non-abelian part of the vector potential makes the Landau levels non-degenerate. In the presence of strong repulsive interactions, deformed Laughlin ground states occur in general. However, at the degeneracy points of the Landau levels, non-abelian quantum Hall states appear: these ground states, including deformed Moore-Read states (characterized by…
We study the one-body reduced density matrix of a system of $N$ one-dimensional impenetrable anyons trapped by a harmonic potential. To this purpose we extend two methods developed to tackle related problems, namely the determinant approach and the replica method. While the former is the basis for exact numerical computations at finite $N$, the latter has the advantage of providing an analytic asymptotic expansion for large $N$. We show that the first few terms of such expansion are sufficient to reproduce the numerical results to an excellent accuracy even for relatively small $N$, thus demon…
We study the (pseudo-) anyon Hubbard model on a one-dimensional lattice without the presence of a three-body hardcore constraint. In particular, for the pseudo-fermion limit of a large statistical angle $θ\approxπ$, we observe a wealth of exotic properties including {a first order transition} between different superfluid phases and a {two-component} partially paired phase for large fillings without need of an additional three-body hardcore constraint. In this limit, we analyze the effect of an induced hardcore constraint, which leads to the stabilization of superfluid {ground states} for vanish…
Traditional anyons in two dimensions have generalized exchange statistics governed by the braid group. By analyzing the topology of configuration space, we discover that an alternate generalization of the symmetric group governs particle exchanges when there are hard-core three-body interactions in one-dimension. We call this new exchange symmetry the traid group and demonstrate that it has abelian and non-abelian representations that are neither bosonic nor fermionic, and which also transform differently under particle exchanges than braid group anyons. We show that generalized exchange stati…
We demonstrate the role of interactions in driving the relaxation of an isolated integrable quantum system following a sudden quench. We consider a family of integrable hard-core lattice anyon models that continuously interpolates between noninteracting spinless fermions and strongly interacting hard-core bosons. A generalized Jordan-Wigner transformation maps the entire family to noninteracting fermions. We find that, aside from the singular free-fermion limit, the entire single-particle density matrix and therefore all one-body observables relax to the predictions of the generalized Gibbs en…
Using the Anyon-Hubbard Hamiltonian, we analyze the ground-state properties of anyons in a one-dimensional lattice. To this end we map the hopping dynamics of correlated anyons to an occupation-dependent hopping Bose-Hubbard model using the fractional Jordan-Wigner transformation. In particular, we calculate the quasi-momentum distribution of anyons, which interpolates between Bose-Einstein and Fermi-Dirac statistics. Analytically, we apply a modified Gutzwiller mean-field approach, which goes beyond a classical one by including the influence of the fractional phase of anyons within the many-b…
Ring exchange is an elementary interaction for modeling unconventional topological matters which hold promise for efficient quantum information processing. We report the observation of four-body ring-exchange interactions and the topological properties of anyonic excitations within an ultracold atom system. A minimum toric code Hamiltonian in which the ring exchange is the dominant term, was implemented by engineering a Hubbard Hamiltonian that describes atomic spins in disconnected plaquette arrays formed by two orthogonal superlattices. The ring-exchange interactions were resolved from the d…

Many-body localization (MBL) has been widely investigated for both fermions and bosons, it is, however, much less explored for anyons. Here we numerically calculate several physical characteristics related to MBL of a one-dimensional disordered anyon-Hubbard model in both localized and delocalized regions. We figure out a logarithmically slow growth of the half-chain entanglement entropy and an area-law rather than volume-law obedience for the highly excited eigenstates in the MBL phase. The adjacent energy level gap-ratio parameter is calculated and is found to exhibit a Poisson-like probabil…
We introduce a rigorous approach to the many-body spectral theory of extended anyons, i.e. quantum particles confined to two dimensions that interact via attached magnetic fluxes of finite extent. Our main results are many-body magnetic Hardy inequalities and local exclusion principles for these particles, leading to estimates for the ground-state energy of the anyon gas over the full range of the parameters. This brings out further non-trivial aspects in the dependence on the anyonic statistics parameter, and also gives improvements in the ideal (non-extended) case.
We investigate the strongly interacting hard-core anyon gases in a one dimensional harmonic potential at finite temperature by extending thermal Bose-Fermi mapping method to thermal anyon-ferimon mapping method. With thermal anyon-fermion mapping method we obtain the reduced one-body density matrix and therefore the momentum distribution for different statistical parameters and temperatures. At low temperature hard-core anyon gases exhibit the similar properties as those of ground state, which interpolate between Bose-like and Fermi-like continuously with the evolution of statistical propertie…
To explore the static properties of the one-dimensional anyon-Hubbard model for a mean density of one particle per site, we apply perturbation theory with respect to the ratio between kinetic energy and interaction energy in the Mott insulating phase. The strong-coupling results for the ground-state energy, the single-particle excitation energies, and the momentum distribution functions up to 6th order in hopping are benchmarked against the numerically exact (infinite) density-matrix renormalization group technique. Since these analytic expressions are valid for any fractional phase $θ$ of any…
We investigate continuous-time quantum walks of two indistinguishable anyons in one-dimensional lattices with both on-site and nearest-neighbor interactions based on the fractional Jordan-Wigner transformation. It is shown that the two-body correlations in position space are symmetric about the initial sites of two quantum walkers in the Bose limit ($χ=0$ ) and Fermi limit ( $χ=1$), while in momentum space this happens only in the Bose limit. An interesting asymmetry arises in the correlation for most cases with the statistical parameter $χ$ varying in between. It turns out that the origin of …

Anyons are particles with fractional statistics that exhibit a nontrivial change in the wavefunction under an exchange of particles. Anyons can be considered to be a general category of particles that interpolate between fermions and bosons. We determined the position of the critical points of the one-dimensional anyon-Hubbard model, which was mapped to a modified Bose-Hubbard model where the tunneling depends on the local density and the interchange angle. We studied the latter model by using the density matrix renormalization group method and observed that gapped (Mott insulator) and gapless…
We derive a Pauli exclusion principle for extended fermion-based anyons of any positive radius and any non-trivial statistics parameter. That is, we consider 2D fermionic particles coupled to magnetic flux tubes of non-zero radius, and prove a Lieb-Thirring inequality for the corresponding many-body kinetic energy operator. The implied constant is independent of the radius of the flux tubes, and proportional to the statistics parameter.

We prove upper and lower bounds on the ground-state energy of the ideal two-dimensional anyon gas. Our bounds are extensive in the particle number, as for fermions, and linear in the statistics parameter $α$. The lower bounds extend to Lieb-Thirring inequalities for all anyons except bosons.
In two-dimensional space there are possibilities for quantum statistics continuously interpolating between the bosonic and the fermionic one. Quasi-particles obeying such statistics can be described as ordinary bosons and fermions with magnetic interactions. We study a limit situation where the statistics/magnetic interaction is seen as a "perturbation from the fermionic end". We vindicate a mean-field approximation, proving that the ground state of a gas of anyons is described to leading order by a semi-classical, Vlasov-like, energy functional. The ground state of the latter displays anyonic…

The problem of bounding the (abelian) many-anyon ground-state energy from above, with a dependence on the statistics parameter which matches that of currently available lower bounds, is reduced to studying the correlation functions of Moore-Read (Pfaffian) and Read-Rezayi type clustering states.
We study the nonequilibrium quench dynamics of a one-dimensional anyonic gas. We focus on the integrable anyonic Lieb-Liniger model and consider the quench from non-interacting to hard-core anyons. We study the dynamics of the local properties of the system. By means of integrability-based methods we compute analytically the one-body density matrix and the density-density correlation function at all times after the quench and in particular at infinite time. Our results show that the system evolves from an initial state where the local momentum distribution function is non-symmetric to a steady…

We study a one-dimensional multicomponent anyon model that reduces to a multicomponent Lieb-Liniger gas of impenetrable bosons (Tonks-Girardeau gas) for vanishing statistics parameter. At fixed component densities, the coordinate Bethe ansatz gives a family of quantum phase transitions at special values of the statistics parameter. We show that the ground state energy changes extensively between different phases. Special regimes are studied and a general classification for the transition points is given. An interpretation in terms of statistics of composite particles is proposed.

Anyons are 2D or 1D quantum particles with intermediate statistics, interpolating between bosons and fermions. We study the ground state of a large number N of 2D anyons, in a scaling limit where the statistics parameter is proportional to the inverse of N. This means that the statistics is seen as a "perturbation from the bosonic end." We model this situation in the magnetic gauge picture by bosons interacting through long-range magnetic potentials. We assume that these effective statistical gauge potentials are generated by magnetic charges carried by each particle, smeared over discs of rad…
