We consider a particular truncation of the generalized Proca field theory in four dimensions for which we construct a static and axisymmetric rotating black hole "stealth solutions", namely solutions with (Anti) de Sitter or Kerr metric but non-trivial vector field. The static configuration is promoted to a backreacting black hole with asymptotic (Anti) de Sitter behavior by turning on a nonlinear electrodynamic source given as a fixed power of the Maxwell invariant. Finally we extend our solutions to arbitrary dimensions.
Numerical solutions for asymptotically flat rotating black holes in the cubic Galileon theory are presented. These black holes are endowed with a nontrivial scalar field and exhibit a non-Schwarzschild behaviour: faster than $1/r$ convergence to Minkowski spacetime at spatial infinity and hence vanishing of the Komar mass. The metrics are compared with the Kerr metric for various couplings and angular velocities. Their physical properties are extracted and show significant deviations from the Kerr case.
We consider a class of generalized Galileon theories within General Relativity in space-times of more than two spatial dimensions. We show that these theories do not admit stable, static, spherically symmetric, asymptotically flat and traversable Lorentzian wormholes.
We parameterize the evolutions of the slow expansion, which emerges from a static state in infinite past, into different classes. We show that the scale invariant adiabatical perturbation may be generated during these evolutions, and the corrsponding evolutions can be realized with generalized Galileon Lagrangians, in which there is not the ghost instability.
We develop the effective theory for perturbations around black holes with scalar hair, in two directions. First, we show that the scalar-Gauss--Bonnet theory, often used as an example exhibiting scalar black hole hair, can be deformed by galileon operators leading to order unity changes to its predictions. The effective theory for perturbations thus provides an efficient framework for describing and constraining broad classes of scalar-tensor theories, of which the addition of galileon operators is an example. Second, we extend the effective theory to perturbations around an axisymmetric, slow…
We consider a galileon field coupled to gravity. The standard no-hair theorems do not apply, because of the galileon's peculiar derivative interactions. We prove that, nonetheless, static spherically symmetric black holes cannot sustain non-trivial galileon profiles. Our theorem holds regardless of whether there are non-minimal couplings between the galileon and gravity of the covariant galileon type.
We examine observational signatures of the asymptotically de Sitter branch of static spherically symmetric Horndeski/Galileon solutions. Our analysis reveales that possible deviations of the photon sphere size from those of the GR Schwarzshild solution are vanishing compared to the resolution of modern radio-interferometric observations. These deviations are heavily suppressed by the bounds coming from the weak-field observation. We conclude that shadow size would not be a useful characteristic to distinguish the Horndeski/Galileon static spherically symmetric spacetimes in the foreseeable fut…
We consider multi-Galileon theory, the most general Galilean invariant theory with $N$ scalar fields linearly coupled to the trace of the stress-energy tensor. We study the behavior of perturbations on a static spherically symmetric background with a massive point source, and show that, under the assumptions of stability and successful Vainshtein screening, solutions cannot be found that are free of both superluminal propagation and slowly moving, strongly coupled fluctuations. The latter imply that the theoretical and phenomenological issues related to a very low strong-interaction scale cann…
We study a scalar-tensor version of Lovelock theory with a non trivial higher order galileon term involving the coupling of the Lovelock two tensor with derivatives of the scalar galileon field. For a static and spherically symmetric spacetime we extend the Boulware-Deser solution to the presence of a Galileon field. The hairy solution has a regular scalar field on the black hole event horizon and presents certain self tuning properties for the bulk cosmological constant and the Gauss-Bonnet coupling. The combined time and radial dependence of the galileon field permits its horizon regularity.…
We study whether it is possible to design a "classical" spatially flat bouncing cosmology or a static, spherically symmetric asymptotically flat Lorentzian wormhole in cubic Galileon theories interacting with an extra scalar field. We show that bouncing models are always plagued with gradient instabilities, while there are always ghosts in wormhole backgrounds.
We give a detailed calculation for the Hamiltonian of single galileon field theory, keeping track of all the surface terms. We calculate the energy of static, spherically symmetric configuration of the single galileon field at cubic order coupled to a point-source and show that the 2-branches of the solution possess energy of equal magnitude and opposite sign, the sign of which is determined by the coefficient of the kinetic term $α_2$. Moreover the energy is regularized in the short distance (ultra-violet) regime by the dominant cubic term even though the source is divergent at the origin. We…
We investigate stationary rotationally symmetric solutions of a particular truncation of Horndeski theory in three dimensions, including a non-minimal scalar kinetic coupling to the curvature. After discussing the special case of a vanishing scalar charge, which includes most of the previously known solutions, we reduce the general case to an effective mechanical model in a three-dimensional target space. We analyze the possible near-horizon behaviors, and conclude that black hole solutions with degenerate horizons and constant curvature asymptotics may exist if the minimal and non-minimal sca…
We study Galileon theories that emerge in ghost-free massive gravity. In particular, we focus on a sub-class of these theories where the Galileons can be completely decoupled from the tensor Lagrangian. These Galileons differ from generic ones -- they have interrelated coefficients of the cubic and quartic terms, and most importantly, a non-standard coupling to external stress-tensors, governed by the same coefficient. We show that this theory has no static stable spherically symmetric solutions that would interpolate from the Vainshtein region to flat space; these two regions cannot be smooth…
Null and timelike equatorial orbits are investigated in a family of hairy black holes in the cubic Galileon theory. These include rotating generalizations of static black hole metrics supporting a time-dependent scalar field. Depending on the coupling and rotation, the properties of the geodesics expectedly deviate from general relativity. In particular, it is found that stable circular geodesics only exist below a critical coupling, which is related to the existence of an outermost stable circular orbit. Focusing on the strong-field region, images of an accretion disk are also produced to hig…
We present a class of exact scalar-tensor black holes for a shift-symmetric part of the Horndeski action. The action includes a higher order scalar tensor interaction term. We find that for a static and spherically symmetric space-time, the scalar field, if time dependent, can be non-trivial and regular thus circumventing in an interesting way no-hair arguments for gallileons. Furthermore, within this class we find a stealth Schwarzschild and a partially self-tuned de-Sitter Schwarzschild black hole, both exhibiting a non trivial and regular space and time dependent scalar. In the latter solut…
It was previously found that in a certain parameter subspace of scalar-tensor theories emerging from massive gravity, the only stable field configuration created by static spherically symmetric sources was one with cosmological asymptotics. Moreover, these backgrounds were shown to be sub-luminal everywhere in the space; in contrast to the common believe that these theories are necessarily superluminal in the vicinity of a static source. In this work we complete that analysis by extending it to cover the whole parameter space of these scalar-tensor theories. We find that the stability argument…
Recently, a rotating black hole solution was found in Vector-Tensor Galileons modified gravity that has some significant differences from the Kerr black hole solution. We study the iron line shape that is part of the reflection spectrum of accretion disks around black holes in this new black hole solution. We simulate and compare the iron lines of this solution with those of the Kerr solution to see if the technique of iron line spectroscopy can be used as a tool to test Vector-Tensor Galileons modified gravity. Our analysis shows that current X-ray facilities can, in principle, be used to tes…
We study the fields of spherically symmetric thin shell sources, a.k.a. Dyson spheres, in a {\it fully nonlinear covariant} theory of gravity with the simplest galileon field. We integrate exactly all the field equations once, reducing them to first order nonlinear equations. For the simplest galileon, static solutions come on {\it six} distinct branches. On one, a Dyson sphere surrounds itself with a galileon hair, which far away looks like a hair of any Brans-Dicke field. The hair changes below the Vainshtein scale, where the extra galileon terms dominate the minimal gradients of the field. …
We study relativistic stars in Hordenski theories that evade the gravitational wave constraints and exhibit the Vainshtein mechanism, focusing on a model based on the cubic Galileon Lagrangian. We derive the scalar field profile for static spherically symmetric objects in asymptotically de Sitter space-time with a linear time dependence. The exterior solution matches to the black hole solution found in the literature. Due to the Vainshtein mechanism, the stellar structure is indistinguishable from that of General Relativity with the same central density as long as the radius of the star is sho…
In the context of a cubic Galileon model in which the Vainshtein mechanism suppresses the scalar field interactions with matter, we study low-density stars with slow rotation and static relativistic stars. We develop an expansion scheme to find approximated solutions inside the Vainshtein radius, and show that deviations from General Relativity (GR), while considering rotation, are also suppressed by the Vainshtein mechanism. In a quadratic coupling model, in which the scalarisation effect can significantly enhance deviations from GR in normal scalar tensor gravity, the Galileon term successfu…
We consider the covariant galileon gravity taking into account the third order and fourth order scalar field Lagrangians L_3(π) and L_4(π) consisting of three and four $π$'s with four and five derivatives acting on them respectively. The background dynamical equations are set up for the system under consideration and the stability of the self accelerating solution is demonstrated in general setting. We extended this study to the general case of the fifth order theory. For spherically symmetric static background, we spell out conditions for suppression of fifth force effects mediated by the gal…
The direct detection of gravitational waves opens new perspectives for measuring properties of gravitationally bound compact objects. It is then important to investigate black holes and neutron stars in alternative theories of gravity, since they can have features that make them observationally distinguishable from their General Relativity (GR) counterparts. In this work, we examine a special case of vector Galileons, a vector-tensor theory of gravity with interesting cosmological properties, which consists of a one parameter modification of the Einstein-Maxwell action. Within this theory, we …
It is shown that the non-Abelian black hole solutions have stationary generalizations which are parameterized by their angular momentum and electric Yang-Mills charge. In particular, there exists a non-static class of stationary black holes with vanishing angular momentum. It is also argued that the particle-like Bartnik-McKinnon solutions admit slowly rotating, globally regular excitations. In agreement with the non-Abelian version of the staticity theorem, these non-static soliton excitations carry electric charge, although their non-rotating limit is neutral.
We study the cosmology of Galileon modified gravity models in the linear perturbation regime. We derive the fully covariant and gauge invariant perturbed field equations using two different methods, which give consistent results, and solve them using a modified version of the {\tt CAMB} code. We find that, in addition to modifying the background expansion history and therefore shifting the positions of the acoustic peaks in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) power spectrum, the Galileon field can cluster strongly from early times, and causes the Weyl gravitational potential to grow, rather …
The problem of the distribution of axionlike particle, being the model of dark matter, in the nearby of rotating wormholes has been investigated numerically. In the model in question the axion scalar is non-trivially coupled to the Maxwell gauge field. We consider two toy models of rotating wormholes embedded in magnetic field, Kerr-like and Teo rotating wormholes. Moreover one assumes that the matter fields will not backreact on the wormhole spacetimes, i.e., we shall study the problem in the probe limit case. We point out the differences in the distribution of dark matter comparing to the lo…
We consider the prospect of detecting cubic Galileons through their imprint on gravitational wave signals from a triple system. Namely, we consider a massive Black Hole (BH) surrounded by a binary system of two smaller BHs. We assume that the three BHs acquire a conformal coupling to the scalar field whose origin could be due to cosmology or to the galactic environment. In this case, the massive BH has a Vainshtein radius which englobes the smaller ones and suppresses the scalar effects on the motion of the binary system. On the other hand the two binaries can be outside each other's redressed…
We study the gravitational field equations in the presence of a coupling between the derivative of a massless scalar field and the Einstein tensor. This configuration is motivated by Galileon gravity as it preserves shift invariance in the scalar sector. We analytically obtain solutions with static and spherically symmetric geometry, which also include black holes with a single regular horizon. We examine the thermodynamical properties of these solutions, and we reveal the non-perturbative nature of the Galileon coupling constant. We also find a phase transition, similar to the one described b…
We obtain static and rotating electrically charged black holes of a Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton theory of the Brans-Dicke type in (2+1)-dimensions. The theory is specified by three fields, the dilaton, the graviton and the electromagnetic field, and two parameters, the cosmological constant and the Brans-Dicke parameter. It contains eight different cases, of which one distinguishes as special cases, string theory, general relativity and a theory equivalent to four dimensional general relativity with one Killing vector. We find the ADM mass, angular momentum, electric charge and dilaton charge and…
We investigate the structure of halos in the sDGP (self-accelerating branch of the Dvali-Gavadadze-Porrati braneworld gravity) model and the galileon modified gravity model on the basis of the static and spherically symmetric solutions of the collisionless Boltzmann equation, which reduce to the singular isothermal sphere model and the King model in the limit of Newtonian gravity. The common feature of these halos is that the density of a halo in the outer region is larger (smaller) in the sDGP (galileon) model, respectively, in comparison with Newtonian gravity. This comes from the suppressio…
We investigate rotating Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton (EMd) black holes in odd dimensions. Focusing on black holes with equal-magnitude angular momenta, we determine the domain of existence of these black holes. Non-extremal black holes reside with the boundaries determined by the static and the extremal rotating black holes. The extremal EMd black holes show proportionality of their horizon area and their angular momenta. Thus the charge does not enter. We also address the Einstein-Maxwell case, where the extremal rotating black holes exhibit two branches. On the branch emerging from the Myers-Per…
Four-dimensional homogeneous static and rotating black strings in dynamical Chern-Simons modified gravity, with and without torsion, are presented. Each solution is supported by a scalar field that depends linearly on the coordinate that span the string. The solutions are locally $\mbox{AdS}_3 \times \mathbb{R}$ and they represent the continuation of the Bañados-Teitelboim-Zanelli black hole. Moreover, they belong to the so-called Chern-Simons sector of the space of solutions of the theory, since the Cotton tensor contributes nontrivially to the field equations. The case with nonvanishing tors…
In this paper we find analytical expressions for thermodynamic quantities of scalar (tensor) and vector unparticle static black holes. We also find rotating solutions to these systems and analyse their thermodynamics. First we consider the static case with a spherically symmetric source for both the vector and scalar (tensor) unparticles. We obtain thus analytical expressions to the principal thermodynamic quantities: Hawking temperature, entropy, heat capacity and free energy. For the scalar (tensor) case we find that the black hole presents a residual value for the entropy when its radius go…
We show that under certain conditions an axisymmetric rotating spacetime contains a ring of points in the equatorial plane, where a particle at rest with respect to an asymptotic static observer remains at rest in a static orbit. We illustrate the emergence of such orbits for boson stars. Further examples are wormholes, hairy black holes and Kerr-Newman solutions.
A version of massive gravity, namely conformal massive gravity, is employed to study the behavior of thermodynamic geometry for both the static and the rotating regular black holes. Whereas in thermodynamic geometry singularity can be interpreted as the second phase transition, seeing such phenomena as heat capacity behavior for both cases is investigated in detail. In addition, other thermodynamic quantities like the entropy and the temperature are analyzed as well. Another important property of the black holes is the so-called stability, in which utilizing the first phase transition of the h…
In this paper, we show the existence of static and rotating universal horizons and black holes in gravitational theories with the broken Lorentz invariance. We pay particular attention on the ultraviolet regime, and show that universal horizons and black holes exist not only in low energy scales but also in the UV scales. This is realized by presenting various static and stationary exact solutions of the full theory of the projectable Hořava gravity with an extra U(1) symmetry in (2+1)-dimensions, which, by construction, is power-counting renormalizable.
Quantum fields on a stationary space-time in a rotating Killing reference frame are considered. Finding solutions of wave equations in this frame is reduced to a fiducial problem on a static background. The rotation results in a gauge connection in a way similar to appearance of gauge fields in Kaluza-Klein models. Such a Kaluza-Klein method in theory of rotating quantum fields enables one to simplify computations and get a number of new results similar to those established for static backgrounds. In particular, we find with its help functional form of free energy at high temperatures. Applica…
We derive the profile of a vector field coupled to matter on a static and spherically symmetric background in the context of generalized Proca theories. The cubic Galileon self-interaction leads to the suppression of a longitudinal vector component due to the operation of the Vainshtein mechanism. For quartic and sixth-order derivative interactions, the solutions consistent with those in the continuous limit of small derivative couplings correspond to the branch with the vanishing longitudinal mode. We compute the corrections to gravitational potentials outside a compact body induced by the ve…
In this paper, we explore the photon region and the shadow of the rotating counterpart of a static charged Weyl black hole, which has been previously discussed according to null and time-like geodesics. The rotating black hole shows strong sensitivity to the electric charge and the spin parameter, and its shadow changes from being oblate to being sharp by increasing in the spin parameter. Comparing the calculated vertical angular diameter of the shadow with that of M87*, we found that the latter may possess about $10^36$ protons as its source of electric charge, if it is a rotating charged Wey…
I present a new method to generate rotating solutions of the Einstein--Maxwell equations from static solutions, and briefly discuss its general properties.
I present a new method to generate rotating solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equations from static solutions, give several examples of its application, and discuss its general properties.
Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory is an interesting theory of gravity for studying scalar fields in the context of no-hair theorem. In this work, we consider static charged dilaton and charged, slowly rotating dilaton black holes in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity. We investigate the accretion process in thin disks around such black holes, using the Novikov-Thorne model. The electromagnetic flux, temperature distribution, energy conversion efficiency and also innermost stable circular orbits of thin disks are obtained and effects of dilaton and rotation parameters are studied. For the static an…
We show that effects similar to those for a rotating black hole arise for an observer using a uniformly rotating reference frame in a flat space-time: a surface appears such that no body can be stationary beyond this surface, while the particle energy can be either zero or negative. Beyond this surface, which is similar to the static limit for a rotating black hole, an effect similar to the Penrose effect is possible. We consider the example where one of the fragments of a particle that has decayed into two particles beyond the static limit flies into the rotating reference frame inside the st…
In this paper we consider the rotating frame of the Minkowski spacetime in order to describe the inertial forces outside the static limit. We consider the inertial forces inside the static limit to find the classical analogue afterwards we find out the expressions for these forces outside the static limit where we can't consider the limit $\frac{v}{c}\to 0$. We show that in general case if the angular velocity of the object $Ω$ is equal to the angular momentum $ω$ then the acceleration is equal to zero.
We develop a method for computing the free-energy of a canonical ensemble of quantum fields near the horizon of a rotating black hole. We show that the density of energy levels of a quantum field on a stationary background can be related to the density of levels of the same field on a fiducial static space-time. The effect of the rotation appears in the additional interaction of the "static" field with a fiducial abelian gauge-potential. The fiducial static space-time and the gauge potential are universal, i.e., they are determined by the geometry of the given physical space-time and do not de…

A detailed study of the Counter-Rotating Model (CRM) for generic finite static axially symmetric thin disks with nonzero radial pressure is presented. We find a general constraint over the counter-rotating tangential velocities needed to cast the surface energy-momentum tensor of the disk as the superposition of two counter-rotating perfect fluids. We also found expressions for the energy density and pressure of the counter-rotating fluids. Then we shown that, in general, there is not possible to take the two counter-rotating fluids as circulating along geodesics neither take the two counter-r…
We show how (at least in principle) one can construct electrically and magnetically charged slowly rotating black hole solutions coupled to non-linear electrodynamics (NLE). Our generalized Lense-Thirring ansatz is, apart from the static metric function $f$ and the electrostatic potential $ϕ$ inherited from the corresponding spherical solution, characterized by two new functions $h$ (in the metric) and $ω$ (in the vector potential) encoding the effect of rotation. In the linear Maxwell case, the rotating solutions are completely characterized by static solution, featuring $h=(f-1)/r^2$ and $ω=…
