Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory is an interesting theory of gravity for studying scalar fields in the context of no-hair theorem. In this work, we consider static charged dilaton and charged, slowly rotating dilaton black holes in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity. We investigate the accretion process in thin disks around such black holes, using the Novikov-Thorne model. The electromagnetic flux, temperature distribution, energy conversion efficiency and also innermost stable circular orbits of thin disks are obtained and effects of dilaton and rotation parameters are studied. For the static and slowly rotating black holes the results are compared to that of Schwarzschild and Kerr, respectively.
Rotating dilaton black hole solution for asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetime are obtained in the small angular momentum limit with an appropriate combination of three Liouville-type dilaton potentials. The angular momentum, magnetic dipole moment and the gyromagnetic ratio of such a black hole are determined for arbitrary values of the dilaton-electromagnetic coupling parameter.
We obtain a class of slowly rotating charged Kaluza-Klein black hole solutions of the five-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory with arbitrary dilaton coupling constant. At infinity, the spacetime is effectively four-dimensional. In the absence of the squashing function, our solution reduces to the five-dimensional asymptotically flat slowly rotating charged dilaton black hole solution with two equal angular momenta. We calculate the mass, the angular momentum and the gyromagnetic ratio of these rotating Kaluza-Klein dilaton black holes. It is shown that the dilaton field and the non-tr…
Depending on five parameters, rotating counterparts of Einstein--Maxwell--dilaton black holes are derived. We discuss their physical and geometric properties and investigate their null and time-like geodesics including circular orbits. The Lense--Thirring effect is considered.
We consider the axially symmetric coupled system of gravitation, electromagnetism and a dilaton field. Reducing from four to three dimensions, the system is described by gravity coupled to a non-linear $σ$-model. We find the target space isometries and use them to generate new solutions. It seems that it is only possible to generate rotating solutions from non-rotating ones for the special cases when the dilaton coupling parameter $a=0, \pm \sqrt{3}$. For those particular values, the target space symmetry is enlarged.
Dilaton black hole solutions which are neither asymptotically flat nor (anti)-de Sitter but reduce to asymptotically flat solutions in some special limits have been known for a Liouville type dilatonic potential. It is shown how, by solving a pair of coupled differential equations, infinitesimally small angular momentum can be added to these static solutions to produce rotating black hole solutions.
We consider a superradiance effect around rotating dilatonic black holes. We analyze two cases: one is an exact solution with the coupling constant $α=\sqrt{3}$, which effective action is reduced from the 5-dimensional Kaluza-Klein theory, and the other is a slowly rotating dilatonic black holes with arbitrary coupling constant. We find that there exists a critical value ($α\sim 1$), which is predicted from a superstring model, and the superradiant emission rate with coupling larger than the critical value becomes much higher than the Kerr-Newman case ($α=0$) in the maximally charged limit. Co…
We consider stationary rotating black holes in SU(2) Einstein-Yang-Mills theory, coupled to a dilaton. The black holes possess non-trivial non-Abelian electric and magnetic fields outside their regular event horizon. While generic solutions carry no non-Abelian magnetic charge, but non-Abelian electric charge, the presence of the dilaton field allows also for rotating solutions with no non-Abelian charge at all. As a consequence, these special solutions do not exhibit the generic asymptotic non-integer power fall-off of the non-Abelian gauge field functions. The rotating black hole solutions f…
In the present paper we study the long-standing problem for the thermodynamics of magnetized dilaton black holes. For this purpose we construct an exact solution describing a rotating charged dilaton black hole immersed in an external magnetic field and discuss its basic properties. We derive a Smarr-like relation and the thermodynamics first law for these magnetized black holes. The novelty in the thermodynamics of the magnetized black holes is the appearance of new terms proportional to the magnetic momentum of the black holes in the Smarr-like relation and the first law.
In the present paper we prove a classification (uniqueness) theorem for stationary, asymptotically flat black hole spacetimes with connected and non-degenerate horizon in 4D Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory with an arbitrary dilaton coupling parameter $α$. We show that such black holes are uniquely specified by the length of the horizon interval, angular momentum, electric and magnetic charge and the value of the dilaton field at infinity when the dilaton coupling parameter satisfies $0\le α^2\le3$. The proof is based on the nonpositivity of the Riemann curvature operator on the space of the po…
We construct a class of stationary and axisymmetric solutions to the 5D Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity, which describe configurations of charged rotating black objects with Kaluza-Klein asymptotics. The solutions are constructed by uplifting a vacuum seed solution to six dimensions, performing a boost, and a subsequent circle reduction. We investigate the physical properties of the charged solutions, and obtain their general relations to the properties of the vacuum seed. We also derive the gyromagnetic ratio and the Smarr-like relations. As particular cases we study three solutions, which d…
We construct sequences of rapidly rotating neutron stars in dilatonic Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory, employing two equations of state for the nuclear matter. We analyze the dependence of the physical properties of these neutron stars on the Gauss-Bonnet coupling strength. For a given equation of state we determine the physically relevant domain of rapidly rotating neutron stars, which is delimited by the set of neutron stars rotating at the Kepler limit, the set of neutron stars along the secular instability line, and the set of static neutron stars. As compared to Einstein gravity, the presenc…
We present new solutions to Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton-axion (EMDA) gravity in four dimensions describing black holes which asymptote to the linear dilaton background. In the non-rotating case they can be obtained as the limiting geometry of dilaton black holes. The rotating solutions (possibly endowed with a NUT parameter) are constructed using a generating technique based on the Sp(4,R) duality of the EMDA system. In a certain limit (with no event horizon present) our rotating solutions coincide with supersymmetric Israel-Wilson-Perjes type dilaton-axion solutions. In presence of an event hori…
It's shown that the rotating dilaton-axion black hole solution can be obtained from GGHS static charged dilaton black hole solution via Newman-Janis method.
The rotating linear dilatonic black hole is an asymptotically non-flat solution to Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton-Axion gravity theory due to the existence of non-trivial matter fields. We have analytically studied the wave equation of scalar field in this background and shown that the radial wave equation can be solved in terms of hypergeometric function. By determining the ingoing and the outgoing fluxes at the asymptotic infinity, we have found the analytical expressions for reflection coefficient and greybody factor for certain scalar modes. In the high frequency regime, we obtain the Hawking te…
We construct generalizations of the Kerr black holes by including higher curvature corrections in the form of the Gauss-Bonnet density coupled to the dilaton. We show that the domain of existence of these Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-dilaton (EBGd) black holes is bounded by the Kerr black holes, the critical EGBd black holes, and the singular extremal EGBd solutions. The angular momentum of the EGBd black holes can exceed the Kerr bound. The EGBd black holes satisfy a generalised Smarr relation. We also compare their innermost stable circular orbits with those of the Kerr black holes and show the exi…
A slowly rotating black hole solution in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity was considered. Having used the obtained solution we investigated thermodynamic functions such as black hole's temperature, entropy and heat capacity. In addition to examine thermodynamic properties of the black hole extended technique was applied. The equation of state of Van der Waals type was obtained and investigated. It has been shown that the given system has phase transitions of the first as well as of the zeroth order for the temperatures below a critical one which is notable feature of the black hole. A coexiste…
In this paper, we investigate the validity of the weak cosmic censorship conjecture(WCCC) for a rotating linear dilaton black hole from two different methods. By using the classsical ingoing test particle method, we obtain the same results as given in the new version of gedanken experiment recently proposed by Wald. We find that even for this rotating linear dilaton black hole the Iyer-Wald formalism is still functioning. By comparing these two methods, we find that the same result will be obtained in both cases up to first order. The nearly extremal black hole can be overspun, while the extre…
In this paper, with an appropriate combination of three Liouville-type dilaton potentials, we obtain the higher dimensional charged slowly rotating dilaton black hole solution for asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetime. The angular momentum and the gyromagnetic ratio of such a black hole are determined for the arbitrary values of the dilaton coupling constant. It is shown that the dilaton field modifies the gyromagnetic ratio of the rotating dilaton black holes.
In this paper we analyze a binary system consisting of a star and a rotating black hole. The electromagnetic radiation emitted by the star interacts with the background of the black hole and stimulates the production of dilaton waves. We then estimate the energy transferred from the electromagnetic radiation of the star to the dilaton field as a function of the frequency. The resulting picture is a testable signature of the existence of dilaton fields as predicted by string theory in an astrophysical context.
In order to perform model-dependent tests of general relativity with gravitational wave observations, we must have access to numerical relativity binary black hole waveforms in theories beyond general relativity (GR). In this study, we focus on order-reduced Einstein dilaton Gauss-Bonnet gravity (EDGB), a higher curvature beyond-GR theory with motivations in string theory. The stability of single, rotating black holes in EDGB is unknown, but is a necessary condition for being able to simulate binary black hole systems (especially the early-inspiral and late ringdown stages) in EDGB. We thus in…
We consider Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton theory in $(2+1)$-dimensions where the coupling between the scalar field and the Maxwell invariant is the dilatonic coupling $f(ϕ) = \exp (-2αϕ)$ and obtain novel exact rotating black hole solutions. The dilatonic parameter $α$ impacts the metric function, affecting the rotating properties of the black hole, its mass and also its thermodynamics. Calculating the entropy we find that it is always positive and the dilatonic black holes may have higher entropy than the BTZ black hole. Depending on the parameters, the dilatonic BTZ-like black hole may be thermod…
We study both spherically symmetric and rotating black holes with dilaton coupling and discuss the evaporation of these black holes via Hawking's quantum radiation and their fates. We find that the dilaton coupling constant $α$ drastically affects the emission rates, and therefore the fates of the black holes. When the charge is conserved, the emission rate from the non-rotating hole is drastically changed beyond $α= 1$ (a superstring theory) and diverges in the extreme limit. In the rotating cases, we analyze the slowly rotating black hole solution with arbitrary $α$ as well as three exact so…
We investigate rotating Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton (EMd) black holes in odd dimensions. Focusing on black holes with equal-magnitude angular momenta, we determine the domain of existence of these black holes. Non-extremal black holes reside with the boundaries determined by the static and the extremal rotating black holes. The extremal EMd black holes show proportionality of their horizon area and their angular momenta. Thus the charge does not enter. We also address the Einstein-Maxwell case, where the extremal rotating black holes exhibit two branches. On the branch emerging from the Myers-Per…
We present a new solution in 5D Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity describing an equilibrium configuration of extremal rotating black holes with lens space horizon topologies. The basic properties of the solution are investigated and the basic physical quantities are calculated. It is shown that the black hole horizons are superconducting in the sense that they expel the magnetic flux lines.
We show that previously known non-asymptotically flat static black hole solutions of Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory may be obtained as near-horizon limits of asymptotically flat black holes. Specializing to the case of the dilaton coupling constant $α^2 = 3$, we generate from the non-asymptotically flat magnetostatic or electrostatic black holes two classes of rotating dyonic black hole solutions. The rotating dyonic black holes of the ``magnetic'' class are dimensional reductions of the five-dimensional Myers-Perry black holes relative to one of the azimuthal angles, while those of the ``ele…
We investigate the wave dynamics of a charged massive scalar field propagating in a maximally rotating (extremal) linear dilaton black hole geometry. We prove the existence of a discrete and infinite family of resonances describing non-decaying stationary scalar configurations (clouds) enclosing these rapidly rotating black holes. The results obtained signal the potential stationary scalar field distributions (dark matter) around the extremal linear dilaton black holes. In particular, we analytically compute the effective heights of those clouds above the center of the black hole.
We consider rapidly rotating black holes and neutron stars in dilatonic Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGBd) theory and determine their quadrupole moments, which receive a contribution from the dilaton. The quadrupole moment of EGBd black holes can be considerably larger than the Kerr value. For neutron stars, the universality property of the $\hat I$-$\hat Q$ relation between the scaled moment of inertia and the scaled quadrupole moment appears to extend to EGBd theory.
Charged massive scalar fields are studied in the gravitational, electromagnetic, dilaton, and axion fields of rotating linear dilaton black holes. In this geometry, we separate the covariant Klein-Gordon equation into radial and angular parts and obtain the exact solutions of both the equations in terms of the confluent Heun functions. Using the radial solution, we study the problems of resonant frequencies, entropy/area quantization, and greybody factor. We also analyze the behavior of the wave solutions near the event horizon of the rotating linear dilaton black hole and derive its Hawking t…
We construct rotating magnetic solutions to the three-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons-dilaton theory with a Liouville potential. These include a class of black hole solutions which generalize the warped AdS black holes. The regular black holes belong to two disjoint sectors. The first sector includes black holes which have a positive mass and are co-rotating, while the black holes of the second sector have a negative mass and are counter-rotating. We also show that a particular, non-black hole, subfamily of our three-dimensional solutions may be uplifted to new regular non-asymptotic…
It has recently been pointed out that, under certain conditions, the energy of particles accelerated by black holes in the center-of-mass frame can become arbitrarily high. In this paper, we study the collision of two particles in the case of four-dimensional charged nonrotating, extremal charged rotating and near-extremal charged rotating Kaluza-Klein black holes as well as the naked singularity case in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory. We find that the center-of-mass energy for a pair of colliding particles is unlimited at the horizon of charged nonrotating Kaluza-Klein black holes, extremal …
Employing higher order perturbation theory, we find a new class of charged rotating black hole solutions of Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory with general dilaton coupling constant. Starting from the Myers-Perry solutions, we use the electric charge as the perturbative parameter, and focus on extremal black holes with equal-magnitude angular momenta in odd dimensions. We perform the perturbations up to 4th order for black holes in 5 dimensions and up to 3rd order in higher odd dimensions. We calculate the physical properties of these black holes and study their dependence on the charge and the d…
We report a three parameter family of solutions for dilaton gravity in 2+1 dimensions with finite mass and finite angular momentum. These solutions are obtained by a compactification of vacuum solutions in 3+1 dimensions with cylindrical symmetry. One class of solutions corresponds to conical singularities and the other leads to curvature singularities.
Numerical studies of the coupled Einstein-Klein-Gordon system have recently revealed that confined scalar fields generically collapse to form caged black holes. In the light of this finding, we analytically study the characteristic resonance spectra of the confined scalar fields in rotating linear dilaton black hole geometry. Confining mirrors (cage) are assumed to be placed in the near-horizon region of a caged rotating linear dilaton black hole $\frac{r_{m}-r_{2}}{r_{2}}\ll 1$ ($r_{m}$ is the radius of the cage and $r_{2}$ represents the event horizon). The radial part of the Klein-Gordon eq…
We analytically study the scalar perturbation of non-asymptotically flat (NAF) rotating linear dilaton black holes (RLDBHs) in 4-dimensions. We show that both radial and angular wave equations can be solved in terms of the hypergeometric functions. The exact greybody factor (GF), the absorption cross-section (ACS), and the decay rate (DR) for the massless scalar waves are computed for these black holes (BHs). The results obtained for ACS and DR are discussed through graphs.
We derive a stationary and axisymmetric black hole solution in Einstein-Dilaton-Gauss-Bonnet gravity to quadratic order in the ratio of the spin angular momentum to the black hole mass squared. This solution introduces new corrections to previously found nonspinning and linear-in-spin solutions. The location of the event horizon and the ergosphere are modified, as well as the quadrupole moment. The new solution is of Petrov type I, although lower order in spin solutions are of Petrov type D. There are no closed timelike curves or spacetime regions that violate causality outside of the event ho…
In this paper, we consider the timelike and null geodesics around the static [GMGHS (Gibbons, Maeda, Garfinkle, Horowitz and Strominger), magnetically charged GMGHS, electrically charged GMGHS] and the rotating (Kerr-Sen dilaton-axion) dilaton black holes. The geodesic equations are solved in terms of Weierstrass elliptic functions. To classify the trajectories around the black holes, we use the analytical solution and effective potential techniques and then characterize the different types of the resulting orbits in terms of the conserved energy and angular momentum. Also, using the obtained …
We investigate the spherical accretion process for general static spherically symmetric fluids. We analyze this process by using the general metric ansatz for spherically symmetric black holes. We specialize to the case of normal and phantom isothermal fluids and investigate their accretion process onto normal and phantom Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton black holes. Backreaction effects are discussed.
We study the motion of particles in the background of a four-dimensional linear dilaton black hole. We solve analytically the equations of motion of the test particles and we describe their motion. We show that the dilaton black hole acts as a particle accelerator by analyzing the energy in the center of mass (CM) frame of two colliding particles in the vicinity of its horizon. In particular we find that there is a critical value of the angular momentum, which depends on the string coupling, and a particle with this critical angular momentum can reach the inner horizon with an arbitrarily high…
We study the shadow produced by a spinning Kaluza-Klein black hole in Einstein gravity coupled to a Maxwell field and a dilaton. The size and the shape of the shadow depend on the mass, the charge, and the angular momentum. We find that, for fixed values of these parameters, the shadow is slightly larger and less deformed than for its Kerr-Newman counterpart.
We present an analytic solution for accretion of a gaseous medium with adiabatic equation of state onto a charged dilaton black hole which moves at a constant velocity. We determine the four-velocity of accreted flow and find that it possesses axial symmetry. We obtain the particle number density and the accretion rate which depend on the mass, the magnetic charge, and the dilation of black hole, meaning that these parameters take important roles in the process of accretion. Possible theoretical and observational constraints on the parameter related to the dilation are discussed. The results m…
We obtain static and rotating electrically charged black holes of a Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton theory of the Brans-Dicke type in (2+1)-dimensions. The theory is specified by three fields, the dilaton, the graviton and the electromagnetic field, and two parameters, the cosmological constant and the Brans-Dicke parameter. It contains eight different cases, of which one distinguishes as special cases, string theory, general relativity and a theory equivalent to four dimensional general relativity with one Killing vector. We find the ADM mass, angular momentum, electric charge and dilaton charge and…
In this paper, we focus on the quantization of $4-$dimensional rotating linear dilaton black hole (RLDBH) spacetime describing an action, which emerges in the Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton-Axion (EMDA) theory. RLDBH spacetime has a non-asymptotically flat (NAF) geometry. When the rotation parameter " $a$" vanishes, the spacetime reduces to its static form, the so-called linear dilaton black hole (LDBH) metric. Under scalar perturbations, we show that the radial equation reduces to a hypergeometric differential equation. Using the boundary conditions of the quasinormal modes (QNMs), we compute the a…
It has been recently found that for the near extremal Kerr black holes appearing of Zero Damped Modes (accompanied by qusinormal mode branching) signifies about inapplicability of the regime of small perturbations and the onset of turbulence. Here we show that this phenomena is not limited by Kerr or Kerr-Newman solutions only, but also takes place for rotating dilatonic black holes for which we have found Zero Damped Modes both numerically and analytically. We have also shown that, contrary to recent claims, there is no instability of a charged massive scalar field in the background of the ro…
Motivated by the recently proposed Kerr/CFT correspondence, we investigate the holographic dual of the extremal and non-extremal rotating linear dilaton black hole in Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton-Axion Gravity. For the case of extremal black hole, by imposing the appropriate boundary condition at spatial infinity of the near horizon extremal geometry, the Virasoro algebra of conserved charges associated with the asymptotic symmetry group is obtained. It is shown that the microscopic entropy of the dual conformal field given by Cardy formula exactly agrees with Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of extrema…
Gravitational spectroscopy - the measurement of the quasi-normal modes of a black hole from the ringdown signal of a binary black hole coalescence - is one of the most promising tools to test gravity in the strong-field, large-curvature regime, but without the knowledge of the black hole quasi-normal modes in specific cases of modified gravity theories, only null tests of general relativity are possible. More specifically, we need to know the modes of rotating black holes, because typical compact binary mergers lead to black holes with large spins. In this article we compute, for the first tim…
We construct a new class of charged rotating black brane solutions in the presence of logarithmic nonlinear electrodynamics with complete set of the rotation parameters in arbitrary dimensions. The topology of the horizon of these rotating black branes are flat, while, due to the presence of the dilaton field the asymptotic behaviour of them are neither flat nor (anti)-de Sitter [(A)dS]. We investigate the physical properties of the solutions. The mass and angular momentum of the spacetime are obtained by using the counterterm method inspired by AdS/CFT correspondence. We derive temperature, e…
In this paper we investigate the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) of a spinning test particle moving in the rotating Maxwell-dilaton black hole spacetime. By using the Mathisson-Papapetrou-Dixon equations along with the Tulczyjew spin-supplementary condition, we find the equations of motion in the equatorial plane and, from the radial equation, it is obtained the effective potential for the description of the particle's motion. The obtained trajectories show that the ISCO radii for spinning particles moving in rotating charged backgrounds are always smaller than those obtained in the cor…
The model of minimal dilatonic gravity (MDG), called also the massive Branse-Dicke model with $ω=0$, is an alternative model of gravitation, which uses one Branse-Dicke gravitation-dilaton field $Φ$ and offers a simultaneous explanation of the effects of dark energy (DE) and dark matter (DM). Here we present an extensive research of non-rotating neutron star models in MDG with four different realistic equations of state (EOS), which are in agreement with the latest observational data. The equations describing static spherically symmetric stars in MDG are solved numerically. The effects corresp…
Using the blackfold approach, we study new classes of higher-dimensional rotating black holes with electric charges and string dipoles, in theories of gravity coupled to a 2-form or 3-form field strength and to a dilaton with arbitrary coupling. The method allows to describe not only black holes with large angular momenta, but also other regimes that include charged black holes near extremality with slow rotation. We construct explicit examples of electric rotating black holes of dilatonic and non-dilatonic Einstein-Maxwell theory, with horizons of spherical and non-spherical topology. We also…
We present a new solution to dilaton-axion gravity which looks like a rotating Bertotti-Robinson (BR) Universe. It is supported by an homogeneous Maxwell field and a linear axion and can be obtained as a near-horizon limit of extremal rotating dilaton-axion black holes. It has the isometry $SL(2,R)\times U(1)$ where U(1) is the remnant of the SO(3) symmetry of BR broken by rotation, while $SL(2,R)$ corresponds to the $AdS_2$ sector which no longer factors out of the full spacetime. Alternatively our solution can be obtained from the D=5 vacuum counterpart to the dyonic BR with equal electric a…
We report a new class of rotating charged solutions in 2+1 dimensions. These solutions are obtained for Einstein-Maxwell gravity coupled to a dilaton field with selfdual electromagnetic fields. The mass and the angular momentum of these solutions computed at spatial infinity are finite. The class of solutions considered here have naked singularities and are asymptotically flat.
In this paper, we construct a new class of charged rotating dilaton black brane solutions, with complete set of rotation parameters, which is coupled to a nonlinear Maxwell field. The Lagrangian of the matter field has the form of the power-law Maxwell field. We study the causal structure of the spacetime and its physical properties in ample details. We also compute thermodynamic and conserved quantities of the spacetime such as the temperature, entropy, mass, charge, and angular momentum. We find a Smarr-formula for the mass and verify the validity of the first law of thermodynamics on the bl…
