Construction of subspace codes with good parameters is one of the most important problems in random network coding. In this paper we present first a generalization of the concept of cyclic subspaces codes and further we show that the usual methods for constructing cyclic subspace codes over finite fields works for m-quasi cyclic codes, namely the subspaces polynomials and Frobenius mappings.
Subspace codes have received an increasing interest recently due to their application in error-correction for random network coding. In particular, cyclic subspace codes are possible candidates for large codes with efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. In this paper we consider such cyclic codes and provide constructions of optimal codes for which their codewords do not have full orbits. We further introduce a new way to represent subspace codes by a class of polynomials called subspace polynomials. We present some constructions of such codes which are cyclic and analyze their parameters…
Subspace codes, especially cyclic constant subspace codes, are of great use in random network coding. Subspace codes can be constructed by subspaces and subspace polynomials. In particular, many researchers are keen to find special subspaces and subspace polynomials to construct subspace codes with the size and the minimum distance as large as possible. In [14], Roth, Raviv and Tamo constructed several subspace codes using Sidon spaces, and it is proved that subspace codes constructed by Sidon spaces has the largest size and minimum distance. In [12], Niu, Yue and Wu extended some results of […
In this paper we construct, using GAP System for Computational Discrete Algebra, some cyclic subspace codes, specially an optimal code over the finite field F_{2^{10}}. Further we present a definition and an example of the $q$-analogous of a $m$-quasi-cyclic subspace code over F_{2^{8}}.
Cyclic orbit codes are constant dimension subspace codes that arise as the orbit of a cyclic subgroup of the general linear group acting on subspaces in the given ambient space. With the aid of the largest subfield over which the given subspace is a vector space, the cardinality of the orbit code can be determined, and estimates for its distance can be found. This subfield is closely related to the stabilizer of the generating subspace. Finally, with a linkage construction larger, and longer, constant dimension codes can be derived from cyclic orbit codes without compromising the distance.
Cyclic subspace codes gained a lot of attention especially because they may be used in random network coding for correction of errors and erasures. Roth, Raviv and Tamo in 2018 established a connection between cyclic subspace codes (with certain parameters) and Sidon spaces. These latter objects were introduced by Bachoc, Serra and Zémor in 2017 in relation with the linear analogue of Vosper's Theorem. This connection allowed Roth, Raviv and Tamo to construct large classes of cyclic subspace codes with one or more orbits. In this paper we will investigate cyclic subspace codes associated to a …
Subspace codes and particularly constant dimension codes have attracted much attention in recent years due to their applications in random network coding. As a particular subclass of subspace codes, cyclic subspace codes have additional properties that can be applied efficiently in encoding and decoding algorithms. It is desirable to find cyclic constant dimension codes such that both the code sizes and the minimum distances are as large as possible. In this paper, we explore the ideas of constructing cyclic constant dimension codes proposed in \big([2], IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory, 2016\big) and …
In network coding a constant dimension code consists of a set of k-dimensional subspaces of F_q^n. Orbit codes are constant dimension codes which are defined as orbits of a subgroup of the general linear group, acting on the set of all subspaces of F_q^n. If the acting group is cyclic, the corresponding orbit codes are called cyclic orbit codes. In this paper we give a classification of cyclic orbit codes and propose a decoding procedure for a particular subclass of cyclic orbit codes.
We completely characterize possible indices of quasi-cyclic subcodes in a cyclic code for a very broad class of cyclic codes. We present enumeration results for quasi-cyclic subcodes of a fixed index and show that the problem of enumeration is equivalent to enumeration of certain vector subspaces in finite fields. In particular, we present enumeration results for quasi-cyclic subcodes of the simplex code and duals of certain BCH codes. Our results are based on the trace representation of cyclic codes.
In this article we see quasi-cyclic codes as block cyclic codes. We generalize some properties of cyclic codes to quasi-cyclic ones such as generator polynomials and ideals. Indeed we show a one-to-one correspondence between l-quasi-cyclic codes of length m and ideals of M_l(Fq)[X]/(X^m-1). This permits to construct new classes of codes, namely quasi-BCH and quasi-evaluation codes. We study the parameters of such codes and propose a decoding algorithm up to half the designed minimum distance. We even found one new quasi-cyclic code with better parameters than known [189, 11, 125]_F4 and 48 der…
This paper considers the equivalence problem for quasi-cyclic codes over finite fields. The results obtained are used to construct isodual quasi-cyclic codes.
A subspace of a finite extension field is called a Sidon space if the product of any two of its elements is unique up to a scalar multiplier from the base field. Sidon spaces were recently introduced by Bachoc et al. as a means to characterize multiplicative properties of subspaces, and yet no explicit constructions were given. In this paper, several constructions of Sidon spaces are provided. In particular, in some of the constructions the relation between $k$, the dimension of the Sidon space, and $n$, the dimension of the ambient extension field, is optimal. These constructions are shown to…
This paper considers the construction of isodual quasi-cyclic codes. First we prove that two quasi-cyclic codes are permutation equivalent if and only if their constituent codes are equivalent. This gives conditions on the existence of isodual quasi-cyclic codes. Then these conditions are used to obtain isodual quasi-cyclic codes. We also provide a construction for isodual quasi-cyclic codes as the matrix product of isodual codes.
We introduce quasi-cyclic codes of index 1.5, construct such codes in terms of polynomials and matrices; and prove that the quasi-cyclic codes of index 1.5 are asymptotically good.
Based on cyclic simplex codes, a new construction of a family of 2-generator quasi-cyclic two-weight codes is given. New optimal binary quasi-cyclic [195, 8, 96], [210, 8, 104] and [240, 8, 120] codes, good QC ternary [195, 6, 126], [208, 6, 135], [221, 6, 144] codes are thus obtained. Furthermre, binary quasi-cyclic self-complementary codes are also constructed.
In network coding, a flag code is a set of sequences of nested subspaces of $\mathbb{F}_q^n$, being $\mathbb{F}_q$ the finite field with $q$ elements. Flag codes defined as orbits of a cyclic subgroup of the general linear group acting on flags of $\mathbb{F}_q^n$ are called cyclic orbit flag codes. Inspired by the ideas in arXiv:1403.1218, we determine the cardinality of a cyclic orbit flag code and provide bounds for its distance with the help of the largest subfield over which all the subspaces of a flag are vector spaces (the best friend of the flag). Special attention is paid to two speci…

Quasi-cyclic codes form an important class of algebraic codes that includes cyclic codes as a special subclass. This chapter focuses on the algebraic structure of quasi-cyclic codes, first. Based on these structural properties, some asymptotic results, a few minimum distance bounds and further applications such as the trace representation and characterization of certain subfamilies of quasi-cyclic codes are elaborated. This survey will appear as a chapter in "A Concise Encyclopedia of Coding Theory" to be published by CRC Press.
This paper is concerned with construction and structural analysis of both cyclic and quasi-cyclic codes, particularly LDPC codes. It consists of three parts. The first part shows that a cyclic code given by a parity-check matrix in circulant form can be decomposed into descendant cyclic and quasi-cyclic codes of various lengths and rates. Some fundamental structural properties of these descendant codes are developed, including the characterizations of the roots of the generator polynomial of a cyclic descendant code. The second part of the paper shows that cyclic and quasi-cyclic descendant LD…
We characterize the structure of 2-quasi-cyclic codes over a finite field F by the so-called Goursat Lemma. With the characterization, we exhibit a necessary and sufficient condition for a 2-quasi-cyclic code being a dihedral code. And we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for a self-dual 2-quasi-cyclic code being a dihedral code (if charF = 2), or a consta-dihedral code (if charF odd). As a consequence, any self-dual 2-quasi-cyclic code generated by one element must be (consta-)dihedral. In particular, any self-dual double circulant code must be (consta-)dihedral. Also, we show a nec…
LCD codes are linear codes that intersect with their dual trivially. Quasi cyclic codes that are LCD are characterized and studied by using their concatenated structure. Some asymptotic results are derived. Hermitian LCD codes are introduced to that end and their cyclic subclass is characterized. Constructions of QCCD codes from codes over larger alphabets are given.
We study a class of quasi-cyclic LDPC codes. We provide precise conditions guaranteeing high girth in their Tanner graph. Experimentally, the codes we propose perform no worse than random LDPC codes with their same parameters, which is a significant achievement for algebraic codes.
In this paper, we study the structure of 1-generator quasi-cyclic codes over the ring R = F2 + uF2 + vF2 + uvF2, with u2 = v2 = 0 and uv = vu. We determine the minimal spanning sets for these codes. As a generalization of these codes, we also investigate the structure of 1-generator generalized quasi-cyclic codes over R and determine a BCH type bound for them.
Two upper bounds on the minimum distance of type-1 quasi-cyclic low-density parity-check (QC LDPC) codes are derived. The necessary condition is given for the minimum code distance of such codes to grow linearly with the code length.
In this paper we obtain a number of [70,35,12] singly even self-dual codes as a quasi-cyclic codes with m=2 (tailbitting convolutional codes). One of them is the first known code with parameters Beta=140 Gamma=0. All codes are not pure double circulant i.e. could not be represented in systematic form.
As a generalization of cyclic codes, quasi-cyclic (QC) codes contain many good linear codes. But quasi-cyclic codes studied so far are mainly limited to one generator (1-generator) QC codes. In this correspondence, 2-generator and 3-generator QC codes are studied, and many good, new QC codes are constructed from simplex codes. Some new binary QC codes or related codes, that improve the bounds on maximum minimum distance for binary linear codes are constructed. They are 5-generator QC [93, 17, 34] and [254, 23, 102] codes, and related [96, 17, 36], [256, 23, 104] codes.
A new lower bound on the minimum Hamming distance of linear quasi-cyclic codes over finite fields is proposed. It is based on spectral analysis and generalizes the Semenov- Trifonov bound in a similar way as the Hartmann-Tzeng bound extends the BCH approach for cyclic codes. Furthermore, a syndrome-based algebraic decoding algorithm is given.
We generalize Sepasdar's method for finding a generator matrix of two-dimensional cyclic codes to find an independent subset of a general multicyclic code, which may form a basis of the code as a vector subspace. A generator matrix can be then constructed from this basis.
Construction of quantum codes and entanglement-assisted quantum codes with good parameters via classical codes is an important task for quantum computing and quantum information. In this paper, by a family of one-generator quasi-cyclic codes, we provide quasi-cyclic extended constructions that preserve the self-orthogonality to obtain stabilizer quantum codes. As for the computational results, some binary and ternary stabilizer codes with good parameters are constructed. Moreover, we present methods to construct maximal-entanglement entanglement-assisted quantum codes by means of the class of …
In this work, we study a class of generalized quasi-cyclic (GQC) codes called skew GQC codes. By the factorization theory of ideals, we give the Chinese Remainder Theorem over the skew polynomial ring, which leads to a canonical decomposition of skew GQC codes. We also focus on some characteristics of skew GQC codes in details. For a 1-generator skew GQC code, we define the parity-check polynomial, determine the dimension and give a lower bound on the minimum Hamming distance. The skew quasi-cyclic (QC) codes are also discussed briefly.
Generalized quasi-cyclic (GQC) codes form a natural generalization of quasi-cyclic (QC) codes. They are viewed here as mixed alphabet codes over a family of ring alphabets. Decomposing these rings into local rings by the Chinese Remainder Theorem yields a decomposition of GQC codes into a sum of concatenated codes. This decomposition leads to a trace formula, a minimum distance bound, and to a criteria for the GQC code to be self-dual or to be linear complementary dual (LCD). Explicit long GQC codes that are LCD, but not QC, are exhibited.
Generalized quasi-cyclic (GQC) codes with arbitrary lengths over the ring $\mathbb{F}_{q}+u\mathbb{F}_{q}$, where $u^2=0$, $q=p^n$, $n$ a positive integer and $p$ a prime number, are investigated. By the Chinese Remainder Theorem, structural properties and the decomposition of GQC codes are given. For 1-generator GQC codes, minimal generating sets and lower bounds on the minimum distance are given. As a special class of GQC codes, quasi-cyclic (QC) codes over $\mathbb{F}_q+u\mathbb{F}_q$ are also discussed briefly in this paper.
This paper consists of three parts. The first part presents a large class of new binary quasi-cyclic (QC)-LDPC codes with girth of at least 6 whose parity-check matrices are constructed based on cyclic subgroups of finite fields. Experimental results show that the codes constructed perform well over the binary-input AWGN channel with iterative decoding using the sum-product algorithm (SPA). The second part analyzes the ranks of the parity-check matrices of codes constructed based on finite fields with characteristic of 2 and gives combinatorial expressions for these ranks. The third part ident…
An algorithm for constructing Tanner graphs of non-binary irregular quasi-cyclic LDPC codes is introduced. It employs a new method for selection of edge labels allowing control over the code's non-binary ACE spectrum and resulting in low error-floor. The efficiency of the algorithm is demonstrated by generating good codes of short to moderate length over small fields, outperforming codes generated by the known methods.
In this paper, we mainly consider quasi-cyclic (QC) codes over finite chain rings. We study module structures and trace representations of QC codes, which lead to some lower bounds on the minimum Hamming distance of QC codes. Moreover, we investigate the structural properties of 1-generator QC codes. Under some conditions, we discuss the enumeration of 1-generator QC codes and describe how to obtain the one and only one generator for each 1-generator QC code.
We present an interleaving scheme that yields quasi-cyclic turbo codes. We prove that randomly chosen members of this family yield with probability almost 1 turbo codes with asymptotically optimum minimum distance, i.e. growing as a logarithm of the interleaver size. These interleavers are also very practical in terms of memory requirements and their decoding error probabilities for small block lengths compare favorably with previous interleaving schemes.
We apply quantum Construction X on quasi-cyclic codes with large Hermitian hulls over $\mathbb{F}_4$ and $\mathbb{F}_9$ to derive good qubit and qutrit stabilizer codes, respectively. In several occasions we obtain quantum codes with stricly improved parameters than the current record. In numerous other occasions we obtain quantum codes with best-known performance. For the qutrit ones we supply a systematic construction to fill some gaps in the literature.
In this paper, we show that Quasi-Cyclic LDPC codes can efficiently accommodate the hybrid iterative/ML decoding over the binary erasure channel. We demonstrate that the quasi-cyclic structure of the parity-check matrix can be advantageously used in order to significantly reduce the complexity of the ML decoding. This is achieved by a simple row/column permutation that transforms a QC matrix into a pseudo-band form. Based on this approach, we propose a class of QC-LDPC codes with almost ideal error correction performance under the ML decoding, while the required number of row/symbol operations…
We present a new class of sparse and easily invertible circulant matrices that can have a sparse inverse though not being permutation matrices. Their study is useful in the design of quasi-cyclic low-density generator matrix codes, that are able to join the inner structure of quasi-cyclic codes with sparse generator matrices, so limiting the number of elementary operations needed for encoding. Circulant matrices of the proposed class permit to hit both targets without resorting to identity or permutation matrices that may penalize the code minimum distance and often cause significant error flo…
We give the class of finite groups which arise as the permutation groups of cyclic codes over finite fields. Furthermore, we extend the results of Brand and Huffman et al. and we find the properties of the set of permutations by which two cyclic codes of length p^r can be equivalent. We also find the set of permutations by which two quasi-cyclic codes can be equivalent.
We consider the problem of constructing $(3,L)$ quasi-cyclic low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes from complete protographs. A complete protograph is a small bipartite graph with two disjoint vertex sets such that every vertex in the variable-node set is connected to every vertex in the check-node set by a unique edge. This paper analyzes the required lifting factor for achieving girths of six or eight in the resulting quasi-cyclic codes with constraints on lifting. The required lifting factors provide lower bounds on the block-length of such codes.
A list decoding algorithm for matrix-product codes is provided when $C_1,..., C_s$ are nested linear codes and $A$ is a non-singular by columns matrix. We estimate the probability of getting more than one codeword as output when the constituent codes are Reed-Solomon codes. We extend this list decoding algorithm for matrix-product codes with polynomial units, which are quasi-cyclic codes. Furthermore, it allows us to consider unique decoding for matrix-product codes with polynomial units.
Quasi-cyclic (QC) codes form an important generalization of cyclic codes. It is well know that QC codes of length $s\ell$ with index $s$ over the finite field $\mathbb{F}$ are $\mathbb{F}[y]$-submodules of the ring $\frac{\mathbb{F}[x,y]}{< x^s-1,y^{\ell}-1 >}$. The aim of the present paper, is to study QC codes of length $s\ell$ with index $s$ over the finite field $\mathbb{F}$ and find generator polynomials and generator matrix for these codes. To achieve this aim, we apply a novel method to find generator polynomials for $\mathbb{F}[y]$-submodules of $\frac{\mathbb{F}[x,y]}{< x^s-1,y^{\ell}…
