We summarize recent results on positive temperature equilibrium states of large bosonic systems. The emphasis will be on the connection between bosonic grand-canonical thermal states and the (semi-) classical Gibbs measures on one-body quantum states built using the corresponding mean-field energy functionals. An illustrative comparison with the case of "distinguishable" particles (boltzons) is provided.
We prove the existence of Gibbs measures for the Feynman representation of the Bose gas with non-negative interaction in the grand-canonical ensemble. Our results are valid for all negative chemical potentials as well as slightly positive chemical potentials. We consider both the Gibbs property of marked points as well as a Markov--Gibbs property of paths.
We review some mathematical work on the Bose gas in the Gross-Pitaevskii regime. We start with the classical results by Lieb, Seiringer and Yngvason on the ground state energy and by Lieb and Seiringer on the existence of Bose-Einstein condensation. Afterwards, we discuss some more recent progress, based on a rigorous version of Bogoliubov theory.
We consider Bose gases of $N$ particles in a box of volume one, interacting through a repulsive potential with scattering length of order $N^{1-κ}$, for $κ> 0$. Such regimes interpolate between the Gross-Pitaevskii and thermodynamic limits. Assuming that $κ$ is sufficiently small, we determine the ground state energy and the low-energy excitation spectrum of the system, up to errors vanishing in the limit of large $N$.
We consider a system of $N$ bosons in the limit $N \rightarrow \infty$, interacting through singular potentials. For initial data exhibiting Bose-Einstein condensation, the many-body time evolution is well approximated through a quadratic fluctuation dynamics around a cubic non-linear Schrödinger equation of the condensate wave function. We show that these fluctuations satisfy a (multi-variate) central limit theorem.
Non-relativistic interacting bosons at zero temperature, in two and three dimensions, are expected to exhibit a fascinating critical phase, famously known as condensate phase. Even though a proof of Bose-Einstein condensation in the thermodynamic limit is still beyond reach of the current available methods, in the past decades the mathematical physics community has gained an enhanced comprehension of other aspects of the macroscopic behavior of dilute Bose gases at zero temperature. In these notes we review part of these advances, by focusing on the strict relation among the occurrence of Bose…

We study Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) in one-dimensional noninteracting Bose gases in Poisson random potentials on $\mathbb R$ with single-site potentials that are nonnegative, compactly supported, and bounded measurable functions in the grand-canonical ensemble at positive temperatures in the thermodynamic limit. For particle densities that are larger than a critical one, we prove the following: With arbitrarily high probability when choosing the fixed strength of the random potential sufficiently large, BEC where only the ground state is macroscopically occupied occurs. If the strength o…
We verify Bogoliubov's approximation for translation invariant Bose gases in the mean field regime, i.e. we prove that the ground state energy $E_N$ is given by $E_N=Ne_\mathrm{H}+\inf σ\left(\mathbb{H}\right)+o_{N\rightarrow \infty}(1)$, where $N$ is the number of particles, $e_\mathrm{H}$ is the minimal Hartree energy and $\mathbb{H}$ is the Bogoliubov Hamiltonian. As an intermediate result we show the existence of approximate ground states $Ψ_N$, i.e. states satisfying $\langle H_N\rangle_{Ψ_N}=E_N+o_{N\rightarrow \infty}(1)$, exhibiting complete Bose--Einstein condensation with respect to …
