UHECR and UHE neutrino map correlation seem to most inconclusive. We show here that a few peculiar UHECR narrow clustering might be connected to a first UHE muon neutrino tracks. Moreover we discuss the best filtered and amplified UHE neutrino astronomy painted by up-going tau airshower. Their discover by new projects could be reached soon.
UHECR may be either nucleons or nuclei; in the latter case the Lightest Nuclei, as He, Li, Be, explains at best the absence of Virgo signals and the crowding of events around Cen-A bent by galactic magnetic fields. This model fit the observed nuclear mass composition discovered in AUGER. However UHECR nucleons above GZK produce EeV neutrinos while Heavy Nuclei, as Fe UHECR do not produce much. UHECR He nuclei at few tens EeV suffer nuclear fragmentation (producing low energetic neutrino at tens PeVs) but it suffer anyway photo-pion GZK suppression (leading to EeV neutrinos) once above one-few …
Earliest 2007 UHECR anisotropy findings and ICRC AUGER updated maps and clustering confirms our understanding of CenA as the main nearby UHECR source. Those events are mostly lightest nuclei, as He. The events are spread by galactic fields. We argue that the main UHECR event bending, along CenA, is spreading vertically (respect to horizontal spiral galactic fields) by random (and a final coherent) Lorentz force. The He-nuclei dominance is also well probed by detailed AUGER composition data. The Lightest nuclei are still compatible with most recent Hires composition results. Such lightest UHECR…
The ultra high energy cosmic neutrinos are powerful astrophysical probes for both astrophysical mechanisms of particle acceleration and fundamental interactions. They open a window into the very distant and high-energy Universe that is difficult to access by any human means and devices. The possibility of detecting them in large exposure space-based apparatus, like JEM-EUSO, is an experimental challenge. In this paper we present an estimation of the feasibility of detection of UHE tau neutrino by the JEM-EUSO telescope. The interactions of tau-neutrino in sea water and Earth's crust have been …
Photon Astronomy ruled the last four centuries while wider photon band ruled last radio-X-Gamma century of discovery. Present decade may see the rise and competition of UHECR and UHE Neutrino Astronomy. Tau Neutrino may win and be the first flavor revealed. It could soon rise at horizons in AUGER at EeV energies, if nucleons are the main UHECR currier. If on the contrary UHECR are Lightest nuclei (He, Li. B) UHE tau neutrino maybe suppressed at EeV and enhanced at tens -hundred PeV. Detectable in AMIGA and HEAT denser sub-array in AUGER. Within a few years.
The last few years, 2013-2016, the high energy neutrino events in ICECUBE and the last rich UHECR maps by AUGER and TA were hopefully opening a new High Energy astronomy age. Unfortunately the foreseen correlation between neutrino with best gamma X sources has not (yet) been found. The most celebrated GRB gamma sources do not correlate to any neutrino events. The expected Local Group anisotropy in UHECR within the nuleon GZK cut off, has just fade away. UHECR events from Virgo are almost absent. Above two hundred TeV energy tau neutrino might shine by double bang in detectable way in ICECUBE. …
UHECR mystery survived first Auger claims of AGN connection within a GZK (100 Mpc size) Universe. Last 2010 UHECR maps and compositions do show a much lower correlation with AGN SuperGalactic maps and with protons (the two main ingredient of that claim). The three main AUGER results that survived are: an embarrassing absence of Virgo cluster UHECR, somehow an expected signal; a steady presence of Cen-A clustering and a remarkable signature of nuclei (not nucleon) composition. We claim that the He-like lightest nuclei may solve most of the puzzle: He UHECR cannot arrive from Virgo because light…
Ultra High Cosmic Rays (UHECR) should be tracing their sources, making a new astronomy. Their events counting are finally growing, by Auger experiment, into cosmic sky. Their map should follow the mass distribution in a narrow cosmic volume (the GZK cut off region, correlated with Super Galactic Plane (SPG) or Local Group) if they were protons, as most expected. Recently the last 69 UHECR did not longer follow the SGP map, opening the way to very different correlations, and extreme bending connection; we reconfirm here our Lightest Nuclei interpretation, while showing here the last event over …
We parameterize the initial flux composition of high energy astrophysical neutrinos as (Phi_e^0 : Phi_mu^0 : Phi_tau^0) = (1 : n : 0), where n characterizes the source. All usually assumed neutrino sources appear as limits of this simple parametrization. We investigate how precise neutrino telescopes can pin down the value of n. We furthermore show that there is a neutrino mixing scenario in which the ratio of muon neutrinos to the other neutrinos takes a constant value regardless of the initial flux composition. This occurs when the muon neutrino survival probability takes its minimal allowed…
Ultra High Cosmic Rays) made by He-like lightest nuclei might solve the AUGER extragalactic clustering along Cen A. Moreover He like UHECR nuclei cannot arrive from Virgo because the light nuclei fragility and opacity above a few Mpc, explaining the Virgo UHECR absence. UHECR signals are spreading along Cen-A as observed because horizontal galactic arms magnetic fields, bending them on vertical angles. Cen A events by He-like nuclei are deflected as much as the observed clustered ones; proton will be more collimated while heavy (iron) nuclei are too much dispersed. Such a light nuclei UHECR co…
Earth-skimming neutrinos are those which travel through the Earth's crust at a shallow angle. For Ultra-High-Energy (E > 1 PeV; UHE) earth-skimming tau neutrinos, there is a high-probability that the tau lepton created by a neutrino-Earth interaction will emerge from the ground before it decays. When this happens, the decaying tau particle initiates an air shower of relativistic sub-atomic particles which emit Cherenkov radiation. To observe this Cherenkov radiation, we propose the Trinity Observatory. Using a novel optical structure design, pointing at the horizon, Trinity will observe the Ch…
Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have long been held as one of the most promising sources of ultra-high energy (UHE) neutrinos. The internal shock model of GRB emission posits the joint production of UHE cosmic ray (UHECRs, above 10^8 GeV), photons, and neutrinos, through photohadronic interactions between source photons and magnetically-confined energetic protons, that occur when relativistically-expanding matter shells loaded with baryons collide with one another. While neutrino observations by IceCube have now ruled out the simplest version of the internal shock model, we show that a revised calcula…
High Energy Neutrino Astronomy has been revealed by a sudden change in the flavor composition around maximal energies since three years of recording in ice km detector. However these discover didn' t led to any clear promised Neutrino Astronomy land yet. No correlation with hard gamma sources was found. Moreover the astrophysical spectra expected at Fermi value, seem to converge to a softer value, also required to avoid any Glashow resonant neutrino signal. We suggest a main solution within a composite flux ruled by prompt atmospheric neutrinos. Nevertheless the recent discover of twentyone cr…
The detection of Earth-skimming tau neutrinos has turned into a very promising strategy for the observation of UHE cosmic neutrinos. The sensitivity of this channel crucially depends on the parameters of the propagation of the tau neutrino (and the tau lepton) through the terrestrial crust, which governs the flux of emerging tau leptons that can be detected. This propagation problem is usually treated in a simplified framework where several effects are neglected, e.g. the possibility of multiple regenerations of the tau neutrino, the weak interactions of the tau lepton, as well as the stochast…
The recent demonstration by the CODALEMA Collaboration of the ability of the radio-detection technique for the characterization of UHE cosmic-rays calls for the use of this powerful method for the observation of UHE neutrinos. For this purpose, an adaptation of the existing 21CM Array (China) is presently under achievment. In an exceptionally low electromagnetic noise level, 10160 log-periodic 50-200 MHz antennas sit along two high valleys, surrounded by mountain chains. This lay-out results in 30-60 km effective rock thicnesses for neutrino interactions with low incidence trajectories along t…
The Probe Of Extreme Multi-Messenger Astrophysics (POEMMA) mission is being designed to establish charged-particle astronomy with ultra-high energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) and to observe cosmogenic tau neutrinos (CTNs). The study of UHECRs and CTNs from space will yield orders-of-magnitude increase in statistics of observed UHECRs at the highest energies, and the observation of the cosmogenic flux of neutrinos for a range of UHECR models. These observations should solve the long-standing puzzle of the origin of the highest energy particles ever observed, providing a new window onto the most energ…
The possibility of directly detecting Ultra-high energy (UHE from now on) WIMPs are considered by the WIMPs interaction with the nuclei in the air. Since neutrinos dominate the events from the spherical crown near JEM-EUSO, all the events from this region are ignored in my work. Then the numbers of UHE WIMPs and neutrino detected by JEM-EUSO are evaluated at different energies (1 PeV < E < 100 EeV) in ten years, respectively. If the energy thresholds are taken to be 20 EeV, neutrino events can be almost rejected in the detection of UHE WIMPs. According to my evaluation, O(10-100) UHE WIMP even…
The first dedicated search for ultra-high energy (UHE) tau neutrinos of astrophysical origin was performed using the IceCube detector in its 22-string configuration with an instrumented volume of roughly 0.25 km^3. The search also had sensitivity to UHE electron and muon neutrinos. After application of all selection criteria to approximately 200 live-days of data, we expect a background of 0.60 +/- 0.19 (stat.) $^{+0.56}_{-0.58}$ (syst.) events and observe three events, which after inspection emerge as being compatible with background but are kept in the final sample. Therefore, we set an uppe…
I study the possibility of probing Ultra-High Energy (UHE from now on) dark matter particles (>10$^8$ GeV) due to the decay of superheavy dark matter via detection of UHE neutrino signatures from the earth core. The UHE WIMP event rates are estimated at the energies of 100 PeV, and 1 EeV, 10 EeV, 100 EeV and 1 ZeV in JEM-EUSO and at the energy of 1 ZeV in IceCube, respectively. The diffuse neutrino contaminations are also roughly estimated in JEM-EUSO and IceCube. I found that the extreme energy WIMPs can be detected by JEM-EUSO above 1 EeV and by IceCube above 1 ZeV in the $χ$ mass range of 1…
Interactions of ultra-high energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) accelerated in specific astrophysical environments have been shown to shape the energy production rate of nuclei differently from that of the secondary neutrons escaping from the confinement zone. Here, we aim at testing a generic scenario of in-source interactions through a phenomenological modeling of the flux and composition of UHECRs. We fit a model in which nucleons and nuclei follow different particle energy distributions to the all-particle energy spectrum, proton spectrum below the ankle energy and distributions of maximum shower d…
The possibility of detecting Ultra-high energy (UHE from now on) neutrinos due to superheavy dark matter are considered by the neutrinos interaction with the nuclei in the air in the present paper. To reject other standard model particles, UHE neutrinos, from superheavy dark matter and astrophysical sources, skimming the Earth are detected at JEM-EUSO. Then the numbers of UHE neutrinos detected by JEM-EUSO are evaluated at different energies (1 EeV < E < 1 ZeV) in 5 years. If the energy thresholds are taken to be 100 EeV, the astrophysical neutrino contamination could be negligible in this det…
The Probe Of Extreme Multi-Messenger Astrophysics (POEMMA) is designed to identify the sources of Ultra-High-Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECRs) and to observe cosmic neutrinos, both with full-sky coverage. Developed as a NASA Astrophysics Probe-class mission, POEMMA consists of two spacecraft flying in a loose formation at 525 km altitude, 28.5 deg inclination orbits. Each spacecraft hosts a Schmidt telescope with a large collecting area and wide field of view. A novel focal plane is optimized to observe both the UV fluorescence signal from extensive air showers (EASs) and the beamed optical Cherenko…
JEM-EUSO is a mission to study ultra-high-energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) by measuring the fluorescence light from giant air showers at the altitude of the International Space Station. In the tilted mode, JEM-EUSO will become very sensitive to the Čerenkov light from the earth skimming tau neutrinos at the energy range of $10^{16-18}$eV. In this paper we will discuss high-energy tau neutrinos from nearby gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). From simulations of cascade in GRB photon fields including various hadronic/leptonic processes, we estimate the neutrino flux from GRBs. Our results show that both muons a…
Recently (May-November 2013) highest energy neutrino events have been presented by ICECUBE. Most (21) of all these (28) events are cascades shower whose flux exhibits a sharp hardening respect other lower energy atmospheric neutrino component, events suggesting an injection of extraterrestrial neutrino, mostly nu e, nu tau, making cascades. ICECUBE claimed that a component (10:6+5:0 3:6), a third, of these events must be a trace of expected downward muons and-or atmospheric neutrinos (muon track dominated): The probability that this scenario occurs is very poor, about 0.1- 0.5%. The paradox mi…
The evidence of a new population of diffuse high-energy neutrinos, obtained by IceCube, has opened a new era in the field of neutrino physics. Up to now the events detected are still without any source counterpart. The detected events are compatible with the standard picture of cosmic neutrinos undergoing 3-flavor neutrino oscillations. We analyze the implications of neutrino oscillations for the present and future experiments, focusing particularly on tau neutrinos. In fact tau neutrinos are very important: even if they are not produced in astrophysical sites, they have to exist due to oscill…
