In this paper, we study the existence of SRB measures and their properties for infinite dimensional dynamical systems in a Hilbert space. We show several results including (i) if the system has a partially hyperbolic attractor with nontrivial finite dimensional unstable directions, then it has at least one SRB measure; (ii) if the attractor is uniformly hyperbolic and the system is topological mixing and the splitting is Hölder continuous, then there exists a unique SRB measure which is mixing; (iii) if the attractor is uniformly hyperbolic and the system is non-wondering and and the splitting is Hölder continuous, then there exists at most finitely many SRB measures; (iv) for a given hyperbolic measure, there exist at most countably many ergodic components whose basin contains an observable set.
It is known that nonuniformly hyperbolic maps admitting singularities have at most countably many ergodic Sinai-Ruelle-Bowen (SRB) measures. These maps include the Belykh attractor, the geometric Lorenz attractor, and more general Lorenz-type systems. In this paper, we establish easily verifiable sufficient conditions guaranteeing that the number of ergodic SRB measures is at most finite, and provide examples and nonexamples showing that the conditions are necessary in general.
In the present paper we contribute to the thermodynamic formalism of partially hyperbolic attractors for local diffeomorphisms admitting an invariant stable bundle and a positively invariant cone field with non-uniform cone expansion at a positive Lebesgue measure set of points. These include the case of attractors for Axiom A endomorphisms and partially hyperbolic endomorphisms derived from Anosov. We prove these attractors have finitely many SRB measures, that these are hyperbolic, and that the SRB measure is unique provided the dynamics is transitive. Moreover, we show that the SRB measures…
We prove that a partially hyperbolic attractor for a $C^1$ vector field with two dimensional center supports an SRB measure. In addition, we show that if the vector field is $C^2$, and the center bundle admits the sectional expanding condition w.r.t. any Gibbs $u$-state, then the attractor can only support finitely many SRB/physical measures whose basins cover Lebesgue almost all points of the topological basin. The proof of these results has to deal with the difficulties which do not occur in the case of diffeomorphisms.
We show that a class of higher-dimensional hyperbolic endomorphisms admit absolutely continuous invariant probabilities whose density are regular. The maps we consider are given by $T(x,y) = (E (x), C(y) + f(x) )$, where $E$ is a linear expanding map of $\mathbb{T}$, $C$ is a linear contracting map of $\mathbb{R}^d$, $f$ is in $C^r(\mathbb{T}^u,\mathbb{R}^d)$ and $r \geq 2$. We prove that if $|(\det C)(\det E)| \|C^{-1}\|^{-2s}>1$ for some $s<r-(\frac{u+d}{2}+1)$ and $T$ satisfies a certain transversality condition, then the density of the SRB measure of $T$ is contained in the Sobolev space $…
We consider partially hyperbolic attractors for non-singular endomorphisms admitting an invariant stable bundle and a positively invariant cone field with non-uniform cone expansion at a positive Lebesgue measure set of points. We prove volume lemmas for both Lebesgue measure on the topological basin of the attractor and the SRB measure supported on the attractor. As a consequence under a mild assumption we prove exponential large deviation bounds for the convergence of Birkhoff averages associated to continuous observables with respect to the SRB measure.
In this article we will describe a new construction for Gibbs measures for hyperbolic attractors generalizing the original construction of Sinai, Bowen and Ruelle of SRB measures. The classical construction of the SRB measure is based on pushing forward the normalized volume on a piece of unstable manifold. By modifying the density at each step appropriately we show that the resulting measure is a prescribed Gibbs measure. This contrasts with, and complements, the construction of Climenhaga-Pesin-Zelerowicz who replace the volume on the unstable manifold by a fixed reference measure. Moreover,…
In this paper, we provide a technique result on the existence of Gibbs cu-states for diffeomorphisms with dominated splittings. More precisely, for given $C^2$ diffeomorphim $f$ with dominated splitting $T_ΛM = E\oplus F$ on an attractor $Λ$, by considering some suitable random perturbation of $f$, we show that for any zero noise limit of ergodic stationary measures, if it has positive integrable Lyapunov exponents along invariant sub-bundle $E$, then its ergodic components contain Gibbs cu-states associated to $E$. With this technique, we show the existence of SRB measures and physical measur…
For any dimension $d\geq 3$ we construct $C^{1}$-open subsets of the space of $C^{3}$ vector fields such that the flow associated to each vector field is Axiom A and exhibits a non-trivial attractor which mixes exponentially with respect to the unique SRB measure.
In this paper, we study the limit measures of the empirical measures of Lebesgue almost every point in the basin of a partially hyperbolic attractor. They are strongly related to a notion named Gibbs u-state, which can be defined in a large class of diffeomorphisms with less regularity and which is the same as Pesin-Sinai's notion for partially hyperbolic attractors of $C^{1+α}$ diffeomorphisms. In particular, we prove that for partially hyperbolic $C^{1+α}$ diffeomorphisms with one-dimensional center, and for Lebesgue almost every point: (1) the center Lyapunov exponent is well defined, but (…
We give an example of a path-wise connected open set of $C^\infty$ partially hyperbolic endomorphisms on the $2$-torus, on which the SRB measure exists for each system and varies smoothly depending on the system, while the sign of its central Lyapunov exponent does change.
We prove the saturation of a generalized partially hyperbolic attractor of a $C^2$ map. As a consequence, we show that any generalized partially hyperbolic horseshoe-like attractor of a $C^1$-generic diffeomorphism has zero volume. In contrast, by modification of Poincaré cross section of the geometric model, we build a $C^1$-diffeomorphism with a partially hyperbolic horseshoe-like attractor of positive volume.
In this paper we present a mechanism for the emergence of strange attractors in a one-parameter family of differential equations acting on a 3-dimensional sphere. When the parameter is zero, its flow exhibits an attracting heteroclinic network (Bykov network) made by two 1-dimensional connections and one 2-dimensional separatrix between hyperbolic saddles-foci with different Morse indices. After slightly increasing the parameter, while keeping the 1-dimensional connections unaltered, we concentrate our study in the case where the 2-dimensional invariant manifolds of the equilibria do not inter…
We introduce random towers to study almost sure rates of correlation decay for random partially hyperbolic attractors. Using this framework, we obtain abstract results on almost sure exponential, stretched exponential and polynomial correlation decay rates. We then apply our results to small random perturbations of Axiom A attractors, small perturbations of derived from Anosov partially hyperbolic systems and to solenoidal attractors with random intermittency.
We study the dynamics of the periodically-forced May-Leonard system. We extend previous results on the field and we identify different dynamical regimes depending on the strength of attraction $δ$ of the network and the frequency $ω$ of the periodic forcing. We focus our attention in the case $δ\gg1$ and $ω\approx 0$, where we show that, for a positive Lebesgue measure set of parameters (amplitude of the periodic forcing), the dynamics are dominated by strange attractors with fully stochastic properties, supporting a Sinai-Ruelle-Bowen (SRB) measure. The proof is performed by using the Wang an…
We prove that a class of partially hyperbolic attractors introduced by Castro and Nascimento have unique equilibrium states for natural classes of potentials. We also show if the attractors are $C^2$ and have invariant stable and centerunstable foliations, then there is a unique equilibrium state for the geometric potential and its 1-parameter family. We do this by applying general techniques developed by Climenhaga and Thompson.
We prove that the set of diffeomorphisms having at most finitely many attractors contains a dense and open subset of the space of $C^1$ partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms with one-dimensional center. This is obtained thanks to a robust geometric property of partially hyperbolic laminations that we show to hold after perturbations of the dynamics. This technique also allows to prove that $C^1$-generic diffeomorphisms far from homoclinic tangencies in dimension $3$ either have at most finitely many attractors, or satisfy Newhouse phenomenon.
We consider polygonal billiards with collisions contracting the reflection angle towards the normal to the boundary of the table. In previous work, we proved that such billiards has a finite number of ergodic SRB measures supported on hyperbolic generalized attractors. Here we study the relation of these measures with the ergodic absolutely continuous invariant probability measures (acips) of the slap map, the 1-dimensional map obtained from the billiard map when the angle of reflection is always equal to zero. Our main result states that for a generic polygon, if the reflection law has a Lips…
