Let the ${\cal C}^3$ vector field ${\cal X}+aX$ on $M$ define a flow $(f^t_a)$ with an Axiom A attractor $Λ_a$ depending continuously on $a\in(-ε,ε)$. Let $ρ_a$ be the SRB measure on $Λ_a$ for $(f^t_a)$. If $A\in{\cal C}^2(M)$, then $a\mapstoρ_a(A)$ is ${\cal C}^1$ on $(-ε,ε)$ and $dρ_a(A)/da$ is the limit when $ω\to0$ with ${\rm Im}ω>0$ of $$ \int_0^\infty e^{iωt}dt \intρ_a(dx) X(x)\cdot\nabla_x(A\circ f_a^t) $$
We prove that a $C^1$ hyperbolic map whose differential is regular enough has an SRB measure. The precise regularity condition is weaker than H{ö}lder and was mentionned by various authors through the developement of expanding and uniformly hyperbolic dynamics.
In this paper, we study the existence of SRB measures for infinite dimensional dynamical systems in a Banach space. We show that if the system has a partially hyperbolic attractor with nontrivial finite dimensional unstable directions, then it has an SRB measure.
We prove the existence and uniqueness of the SRB measure for singular partially hyperbolic flow in dimension $d\ge 3$. The proof does not use Poincaré sectional maps, but uses basic properties of thermodynamic formalism.
It is known that nonuniformly hyperbolic maps admitting singularities have at most countably many ergodic Sinai-Ruelle-Bowen (SRB) measures. These maps include the Belykh attractor, the geometric Lorenz attractor, and more general Lorenz-type systems. In this paper, we establish easily verifiable sufficient conditions guaranteeing that the number of ergodic SRB measures is at most finite, and provide examples and nonexamples showing that the conditions are necessary in general.
Let $M$ be a Riemannian, boundaryless, and compact manifold, with $\dim M\geq 2$ and let $f$ be a $C^{1+}$ diffeomorphism. We show that there is a hyperbolic SRB measure if and only if there exists an unstable leaf with a subset of positive leaf volume of hyperbolic points which return to some Pesin set with positive frequency. This answers a question of Pesin.
In the present paper we contribute to the thermodynamic formalism of partially hyperbolic attractors for local diffeomorphisms admitting an invariant stable bundle and a positively invariant cone field with non-uniform cone expansion at a positive Lebesgue measure set of points. These include the case of attractors for Axiom A endomorphisms and partially hyperbolic endomorphisms derived from Anosov. We prove these attractors have finitely many SRB measures, that these are hyperbolic, and that the SRB measure is unique provided the dynamics is transitive. Moreover, we show that the SRB measures…
We prove that a partially hyperbolic attractor for a $C^1$ vector field with two dimensional center supports an SRB measure. In addition, we show that if the vector field is $C^2$, and the center bundle admits the sectional expanding condition w.r.t. any Gibbs $u$-state, then the attractor can only support finitely many SRB/physical measures whose basins cover Lebesgue almost all points of the topological basin. The proof of these results has to deal with the difficulties which do not occur in the case of diffeomorphisms.
We consider partially hyperbolic \( C^{1+} \) diffeomorphisms of compact Riemannian manifolds of arbitrary dimension which admit a partially hyperbolic tangent bundle decomposition \( E^s\oplus E^{cu} \). Assuming the existence of a set of positive Lebesgue measure on which \( f \) satisfies a weak nonuniform expansivity assumption in the centre~unstable direction, we prove that there exists at most a finite number of transitive attractors each of which supports an SRB measure. As part of our argument, we prove that each attractor admits a Gibbs-Markov-Young geometric structure with integrable…
For a C^{1+α} diffeomorphism f preserving a hyperbolic ergodic SRB measure μ, Katok's remarkable results assert that μcan be approximated by a sequence of hyperbolic sets \{Λ_n\}_{n\geq1}. In this paper, we prove the Hausdorff dimension for Λ_n on the unstable manifold tends to the dimension of the unstable manifold. Furthermore, if the stable direction is one dimension, then the Hausdorff dimension of μcan be approximated by the Hausdorff dimension of Λ_n. To establish these results, we utilize the u-Gibbs property of the conditional measure of the equilibrium measure of -ψ^{s}(\cdot,f^n) and…
In this paper, we study the differentiability of SRB measures for partially hyperbolic systems. We show that for any $s \geq 1$, for any integer $\ell \geq 2$, any sufficiently large $r$, any $φ\in C^{r}(\T, \R)$ such that the map $f : \T^2 \to \T^2, f(x,y) = (\ell x, y + φ(x))$ is $C^r-$stably ergodic, there exists an open neighbourhood of $f$ in $C^r(\T^2,\T^2)$ such that any map in this neighbourhood has a unique SRB measure with $C^{s-1}$ density, which depends on the dynamics in a $C^s$ fashion. We also construct a $C^{\infty}$ mostly contracting partially hyperbolic diffeomorphism $f: \T…
In this paper we improve the results of \cite{MT} and show that a weak hyperbolic transitivity implies the uniqueness of hyperbolic SRB measures. As an important corollary, it arises the ergodicity of the system in a conservative setting. It also arises the condition which implies the stable ergodicity as well as the statistical stability for a general $C^2$-regular map.
We give geometric conditions that are necessary and sufficient for the existence of Sinai-Ruelle-Bowen (SRB) measures for $C^{1+α}$ surface diffeomorphisms, thus proving a version of the Viana conjecture. As part of our argument we give an original method for constructing first return Young towers, proving that every hyperbolic measure, and in particular every SRB measure, can be lifted to such a tower. This method relies on a new general result on hyperbolic branches and shadowing for pseudo-orbits in nonuniformly hyperbolic sets which is of independent interest.
In this paper we address the existence and ergodicity of non-hyperbolic attracting sets for a certain class of smooth endomorphisms on the solid torus. Such systems allow a formulation as a skew product system defined by planar diffeomorphisms have contraction on average which forced by any expanding circle map. These attractors are invariant graphs of upper semicontinuous maps which support exactly one $SRB$ measure. In our approach, these skew product systems arising from iterated function systems generated by a finitely many weak contractive diffeomorphisms. Under some conditions including …
We provide a general framework to study differentiability of SRB measures for one dimensional non-uniformly expanding maps. Our technique is based on inducing the non-uniformly expanding system to a uniformly expanding one, and on showing how the linear response formula of the non-uniformly expanding system is inherited from the linear response formula of the induced one. We apply this general technique to interval maps with a neutral fixed point (Pomeau-Manneville maps) to prove differentiability of the corresponding SRB measure. Our work covers systems that admit a finite SRB measure and it …
An important class of `physically relevant' measures for dynamical systems with hyperbolic behavior is given by Sinai-Ruelle-Bowen (SRB) measures. We survey various techniques for constructing SRB measures and studying their properties, paying special attention to the geometric `push-forward' approach. After describing this approach in the uniformly hyperbolic setting, we review recent work that extends it to non-uniformly hyperbolic systems.
We consider partially hyperbolic attractors for non-singular endomorphisms admitting an invariant stable bundle and a positively invariant cone field with non-uniform cone expansion at a positive Lebesgue measure set of points. We prove volume lemmas for both Lebesgue measure on the topological basin of the attractor and the SRB measure supported on the attractor. As a consequence under a mild assumption we prove exponential large deviation bounds for the convergence of Birkhoff averages associated to continuous observables with respect to the SRB measure.
We consider polygonal billiards with collisions contracting the reflection angle towards the normal to the boundary of the table. In previous work, we proved that such billiards has a finite number of ergodic SRB measures supported on hyperbolic generalized attractors. Here we study the relation of these measures with the ergodic absolutely continuous invariant probability measures (acips) of the slap map, the 1-dimensional map obtained from the billiard map when the angle of reflection is always equal to zero. Our main result states that for a generic polygon, if the reflection law has a Lips…
In this article we will describe a new construction for Gibbs measures for hyperbolic attractors generalizing the original construction of Sinai, Bowen and Ruelle of SRB measures. The classical construction of the SRB measure is based on pushing forward the normalized volume on a piece of unstable manifold. By modifying the density at each step appropriately we show that the resulting measure is a prescribed Gibbs measure. This contrasts with, and complements, the construction of Climenhaga-Pesin-Zelerowicz who replace the volume on the unstable manifold by a fixed reference measure. Moreover,…
Over the last 10 years or so, advanced statistical properties, including exponential decay of correlations, have been established for certain classes of singular hyperbolic flows in three dimensions. The results apply in particular to the classical Lorenz attractor. However, many of the proofs rely heavily on the smoothness of the stable foliation for the flow. In this paper, we show that many statistical properties hold for singular hyperbolic flows with no smoothness assumption on the stable foliation. These properties include existence of SRB measures, central limit theorems and associated …
We consider a smooth one-parameter family $t \to f_t$ of diffeomorphisms with compact transitive Axiom A attractors. Our first result (corrected) is that for any function $G$ in the Sobolev space $H^r_p$, with $p>1$ and $0<r<1/p$, the map $R(t)$ sending $t$ to the average of $G$ with respect to the SRB measure of $f_t$ is $α$-Hölder continuous for all $α<r- |log \mathcal J|/(p|log ν_s|$) where $\mathcal J\le 1$ is the strongest volume contraction and $ν_s<1$ is the weakest contraction. This applies to $θ(x)=h(x)Θ(g(x)-a)$ (for all $α<1- |log \mathcal J|/|log ν_s|$) for $h$ and $g$ smooth and $…
There exists a $C^2$-open and $C^1$-dense subset of vector fields exhibiting singular-hyperbolic attracting sets (with codimension-two stable bundle), in any $d$-dimensional compact manifold ($d\ge3$), which mix exponentiallu with respect to any physical/SRB invariant probability measure. More precisely, we show that given any connected singular-hyperbolic attracting set for a $C^2$-vector field $X$, there exists a $C^1$-close multiple of $X$ of class $C^2$, generating a topologically equivalent flow, which is robustly exponentially mixing with respect to any physical measure for all vector fi…
