Let $B$ be the split extension of a finite dimensional algebra $C$ by a $C$-$C$-bimodule $E$. We define a morphism of associative graded algebras $φ^*:\HH^*(B)\rightarrow \HH^*(C)$ from the Hochschild cohomology of $B$ to that of $C$, extending similar constructions for the first cohomology groups made and studied by Assem, Bustamante, Igusa, Redondo and Schiffler. In the case of a trivial extension $B=C\ltimes E$, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for each $φ^n$ to be surjective. We prove the surjectivity of $φ^1$ for a class of trivial extensions that includes relation extensions and hence cluster-tilted algebras. Finally, we study the kernel of $φ^1$ for any trivial extension, and give a more precise description of this kernel in the case of relation extensions.
We study homological properties of a family of algebras called toupie algebras. Our main objective is to obtain the Gerstenhaber structure of their Hochschild cohomology, with the purpose of describing the Lie algebra structure of the first Hochschild cohomology space, together with the Lie module structure of the whole Hochschild cohomology.
In this paper we explore the relations between the Hochschild cohomology of an algebra over some field and the Hochschild cohomology of its smash product with a finite group. Basically we are concentrated on the case where the group under consideration is an extension of a cyclic $p$-group by some $p'$-group, where $p$ is the characteristic of the ground field.
Tate-Hochschild cohomology of an algebra is a generalization of ordinary Hochschild cohomology, which is defined on positive and negative degrees and has a ring structure. Our purpose of this paper is to study the eventual periodicity of an algebra by using the Tate-Hochschild cohomology ring. First, we deal with eventually periodic algebras and show that they are not necessarily Gorenstein algebras. Secondly, we characterize the eventual periodicity of a Gorenstein algebra as the existence of an invertible homogeneous element of the Tate-Hochschild cohomology ring of the algebra, which is our…
Let $k$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>2$. We determine the Hochschild cohomology of $U(\mathfrak{sl}_2(k))$ and the invariants of $\mathfrak{sl}_2(k)$ and $\mathsf{SL}_2(k)$ in the adjoint action on the divided power algebra $D(\mathfrak{sl}_2(k))$.
We describe the dimensions of low Hochschild cohomology spaces of exceptional periodic representation-infinite algebras of polynomial growth. As an application we obtain that an indecomposable non-standard periodic representation-infinite algebra of polynomial growth is not derived equivalent to a standard self-injective algebra.
In this paper we study sufficient conditions for the solvability of the first Hochschild cohomology of a finite dimensional algebra as a Lie algebra in terms of its Ext-quiver in arbitrary characteristic. In particular, we show that if the quiver has no parallel arrows and no loops then the first Hochschild cohomology is solvable. For quivers containing loops, we determine easily verifiable sufficient conditions for the solvability of the first Hochschild cohomology. We apply these criteria to show the solvability of the first Hochschild cohomology space for large families of algebras, namely,…
In this paper we determine the first Hochschild homology and cohomology with different coefficients for gentle algebras and we give a geometrical interpretation of these (co)homologies using the ribbon graph of a gentle algebra as defined in earlier work by the second author. We give an explicit description of the Lie algebra structure of the first Hochschild cohomology of gentle and Brauer graph algebras (with multiplicity one) based on trivial extensions of gentle algebras and we show how the Hochschild cohomology is encoded in the Brauer graph. In particular, we show that except in one low-…
We compute the Hochschild cohomology algebras of Ringel-self-dual blocks of polynomial representations of $\GL_2$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>2$, that is, of any block whose number of simple modules is a power of $p$. These algebras are finite-dimensional and we provide an explicit description of their bases and multiplications.
We use the dimension and the Lie algebra structure of the first Hochschild cohomology group to distinguish some algebras of dihedral, semi-dihedral and quaternion type up to stable equivalence of Morita type. In particular, we complete the classification of algebras of dihedral type that was mostly determined by Zhou and Zimmermann.
Given a finite-dimensional algebra $Λ$ and $A \geqslant 1$, we construct a new algebra $\tildeΛ_A$, called the stretched algebra, and relate the homological properties of $Λ$ and $\tildeΛ_A$. We investigate Hochschild cohomology and the finiteness condition (Fg), and use stratifying ideals to show that $Λ$ has (Fg) if and only if $\tildeΛ_A$ has (Fg). We also consider projective resolutions and apply our results in the case where $Λ$ is a $d$-Koszul algebra for some $d \geqslant 2$.
We compute the Hochschild cohomology of any block of $q$-Schur algebras. We focus the even part of this Hochschild cohomology ring. To compute the Hochschild cohomology of $q$-Schur algebras, we prove the following two results: first, we construct two graded algebra surjections between the Hochschild cohomologies of quasi-hereditary algebras because all $q$-Schur algebras over a field are quasi-hereditary. Second, we give the graded algebra isomorphism of Hochschild cohomologies by using a certain derived equivalence.
For a tensor product of algebras twisted by a bicharacter, we completely describe its Hochschild cohomology, as a Gerstenhaber algebra, in terms of the Hochschild cohomology of its component parts. This description generalizes a result of Bergh and Oppermann. It allows us to significantly simplify various calculations in the literature, and to compute Hochschild cohomology for a number of new examples.
We discuss how the Hochschild cohomology of a dg category can be computed as the trace of its Serre functor. Applying this approach to the principal block of the Bernstein--Gelfand--Gelfand category $\mathcal{O}$, we obtain its Hochschild cohomology as the compactly supported cohomology of an associated space. Equivalently, writing $\mathcal{O}$ as modules over the endomorphism algebra $A$ of a minimal projective generator, this is the Hochschild cohomology of $A$. In particular our computation gives the Euler characteristic of the Hochschild cohomology of $\mathcal{O}$ in type A.
We study cup product and cap product in Tate-Hochschild theory for a finite dimensional Frobenius algebra. We show that Tate-Hochschild cohomology ring equipped with cup product is isomorphic to singular Hochschild cohomology ring introduced by Wang. An application of cap product occurs in Tate-Hochschild duality; as in Tate (co)homology of a finite group, the cap product with the fundamental class of a finite dimensional Frobenius algebra provides certain duality result between Tate-Hochschild cohomology and homology groups. Moreover, we characterize minimal complete resolutions over a finite…
In this paper, we study the Batalin-Vilkovisky structure on the Hochschild cohomology of quantum zigzag algebras $A_{q}$ of type $\widetilde{\mathbf{A}}_{1}$. We first calculate the dimensions of Hochschild homology groups and Hochschild cohomology groups of $A_{q}$. Based on these computations, we determine the Hochschild cohomology ring of $A_{q}$, and give the Batalin-Vilkovisky operator and the Gerstenhaber bracket on Hochschild cohomology ring of $A_{q}$ explicitly.
Let $(S,L)$ be a Lie-Rinehart pair such that $L$ is $S$-projective and let $U$ be its universal enveloping algebra. The purpose of this paper is to present a spectral sequence which converges to the Hochschild cohomology of $U$ and whose second page involves the Lie-Rinehart cohomology of the pair and the Hochschild cohomology of $S$ with values on $U$.
We show that Hochschild cohomology of an algebra over a field is a space of infinity coderivations on an arbitrary projective bimodule resolution of the algebra. The Gerstenhaber bracket is the graded commutator of infinity coderivations. We thus generalize, to an arbitrary resolution, Stasheff's realization of the Gerstenhaber bracket on Hochschild cohomology as the graded commutator of coderivations on the tensor coalgebra of the algebra.
The objective of this paper is to give a concrete interpretation of the dimension of the first Hochschild cohomology space of a cyclically oriented or tame cluster tilted algebra in terms of a numerical invariant arising from the potential.
For algebras with radical square zero, we give a combinatorial description to the Tate-Hochschild cohomology. We compute the Gerstenhaber algebra structure on the Tate-Hochschild cohomology for some classes of such algebras.
We generalize the notion of Külshammer ideals to the setting of a graded category. This allows us to define and study some properties of Külshammer type ideals in the graded center of a triangulated category and in the Hochschild cohomology of an algebra, providing new derived invariants. Further properties of Külshammer ideals are studied in the case where the category is $d$-Calabi-Yau.
We construct the Gerstenhaber bracket on Hochschild cohomology of a twisted tensor product of algebras, and, as examples, compute Gerstenhaber brackets for some quantum complete intersections arising in work of Buchweitz, Green, Madsen, and Solberg. We prove that a subalgebra of the Hochschild cohomology ring of a twisted tensor product, on which the twisting is trivial, is isomorphic, as Gerstenhaber algebras, to the tensor product of the respective subalgebras of the Hochschild cohomology rings of the factors.
We formulate the Gerstenhaber algebra structure of Hochschild cohomology of finite group extensions of some quantum complete intersections. When the group is trivial, this work characterizes the graded Lie brackets on Hochschild cohomology of these quantum complete intersections, previously only known for a few cases. As an example, we compute the algebra structure for two generator quantum complete intersections extended by select groups.
We give a simple algebraic recipe for calculating the components of the BV operator $Δ$ on the Hochschild cohomology of a finite group algebra with respect to the centraliser decomposition. We use this to investigate the properties of $Δ$ and to make some computations for some particular finite groups.
We apply the sheaf cohomology BGG method developed by the authors and Lachowska-Qi to the computation of Hochschild cohomology groups of various blocks of the small quantum group. All our computations of the center of the corresponding block agree with the conjectures of Lachowska-Qi. In the case of the nontrivial singular block for $\mathfrak{g} = \mathfrak{sl}_3$, we obtain the H*$(\mathfrak{u}, \mathbb{C}) = \mathbb{C}[\mathcal{N}]$-module structure of HH*$(\mathfrak{u}_λ)$.
We determine the Batalin-Vilkovisky structure on the Tate-Hochschild cohomology of the group algebra $kG$ of a finite group $G$ in terms of the additive decomposition. In particular, we show that the Tate cohomology of $G$ is a Batalin-Vilkovisky subalgebra of the Tate-Hochschild cohomology of the group algebra $kG$, and that the Tate cochain complex of $G$ is a cyclic $A_{\infty}$-subalgebra of the Tate-Hochschild cochain complex of $kG$.
We show that the braided Hochschild cohomology, of an algebra in a suitably algebraic braided monoidal category, admits a graded ring structure under which it is braided commutative. We then give a canonical identification between the usual Hochschild cohomology ring of a smash product and the (derived) invariants of its braided Hochschild cohomology ring. We apply our results to identify the associative formal deformation theory of a smash product with its formal deformation theory as a module algebra over the given Hopf algebra (when the Hopf algebra is sufficiently semisimple). As a second …
