Inspired by the $f(R)$ non-linear massive gravity, we propose a new kind of modified gravity model, namely $f(T)$ non-linear massive gravity, by adding the dRGT mass term reformulated in the vierbein formalism, to the $f(T)$ theory. We then investigate the cosmological evolution of $f(T)$ massive gravity, and constrain it by using the latest observational data. We find that it slightly favors a crossing of the phantom divide line from the quintessence-like phase ($w_{de} > -1$) to the phantom-like one ($w_{de} < -1$) as redshift decreases.
Directly comparing the 6 expansion rate measured by type Ia supernovae data and the lower bound on the expansion rate set by the strong energy conditions or the null hypothesis that there never exists cosmic acceleration, we see $3σ$ direct evidence of cosmic acceleration and the $Rh=ct$ model is strongly excluded by the type Ia supernovae data. We also use Gaussian process method to reconstruct the expansion rate and the deceleration parameter from the 31 cosmic chronometers data and the 6 data points on the expansion rate measured from type Ia supernoave data, the direct evidence of cosmic a…
In this paper, we investigate a scenario in which late time cosmic acceleration might arise due to coupling between dark matter and baryonic matter without resorting to dark energy or large scale modification of gravity associated with extra degrees of freedom. The scenario can give rise to late time acceleration in Jordan frame and no acceleration in Einstein frame - \textit{generic modification of gravity} caused by disformal coupling. Using a simple parametrization of the coupling function, in maximally disformal case, we constrain the model parameters by using the age constraints due to gl…
Recent discussions about supernova magnitude evolution have raised doubts about the robustness of the late-universe acceleration. In a previous letter, Huang did a null test of the cosmic acceleration by using a Parameterization based on the cosmic Age (PAge), which covers a broad class of cosmological models including the standard $Λ$ cold dark matter model and its many extensions. In this work, we continue to explore the cosmic expansion history with the PAge approximation. Using baryon acoustic oscillations ({\it without} a CMB prior on the acoustic scale), gravitational strong lens time de…
The Regge-Teitelboim formulation of gravity, which utilizes dynamical embeddings in a background space, effectively introduces source terms in the standard Einstein equations that are not attributable to the energy-momentum tensor. We show that for a simple class of embeddings of the Robertson-Walker metric, these source terms naturally generate cosmic acceleration.
A novel, interesting class of scalar-tensor gravity theories is those with a limit on the field motion, where the scalar field either goes to a constant acceleration or stops accelerating and goes to a constant velocity. We combine these with the ability to dynamically cancel a high energy cosmological constant, e.g. through the well tempered or self tuning approaches. One can successfully have a cosmic expansion history with a matter dominated epoch and late time acceleration despite a large cosmological constant, although the late time de Sitter limit may be unstable. Pole models, such as in…
In order to study if the anisotropy of the spacetime may induce differences in the cosmic shear or in deceleration parameter we investigate in Bianchi I Universe the most general expression for the cosmic shear and we study the connections between deceleration parameter and cosmic shear. We also consider a shear parametric approach to measure the transition from decelerating to an accelerating Universe. We also study the connection between jerk parameter and ellipsoidal Universe.
We argue that an interacting scalar-fermion distribution can be used to demonstrate the cosmic acceleration in General Relativity. The interaction is of Yukawa nature and it drives the fermion density to decay with cosmic time. The consistency of the model is established through, (a) a generalization of the Om(z) parameter, the present matter density contrast of the universe, and (b) a comparison of theoretical results with observational data, using a Markov Chain Monte Carlo code. A simple model of unified cosmic expansion history is also discussed. There are more than one instances where the…
We argue that dark energy with multiple fields is theoretically well-motivated and predicts distinct observational signatures, in particular when cosmic acceleration takes place along a trajectory that is highly non-geodesic in field space. Such models provide novel physics compared to $Λ$CDM and quintessence by allowing cosmic acceleration on steep potentials. From the theoretical point of view, these theories can easily satisfy the conjectured swampland constraints and may in certain cases be technically natural, potential problems which are endemic to standard single-field dark energy. Obse…
We study the effect of an explicit interaction between two scalar fields components describing dark matter in the context of a recent proposal framework for interaction. We find that, even assuming a very small coupling, it is sufficient to explain the observational effects of a cosmological constant, and also overcome the problems of the $Λ$CDM model without assuming an exotic dark energy.
We propose a model to describe the late-time cosmic acceleration in the context of the constant-roll model. By considering a coupling between massive neutrinos and the quintessence, the onset of evolution of the quintessence is related to the neutrinos' behavior. When the neutrinos become non-relativistic, the dark energy density increases from zero and results in late-time cosmic acceleration alleviating the coincidence problem. The quintessence potential is such that it evolves under the constant-roll condition giving rise to persistent late-time acceleration.
We study the possibility that in the model introduced in \cite{GBN}, the Gauss-Bonnet term alone gives rise to the cosmic acceleration and super-acceleration in four-dimensional FLRW space-time at the late time. We also discuss transitions from deceleration to acceleration and acceleration to super-acceleration. We show that the Gauss-Bonnet invariant can drive the acceleration in the low redshift provided that its regularized coefficient has the same order as the squared of the ratio of the reduced Planck mass to the Hubble parameter.
Starting from the generalized Raychaudhuri equation with torsion and non-metricity, and considering an FLRW spacetime we derive the most general form of acceleration equation in the presence of torsion and non-metricity. That is we derive the cosmic acceleration equation when the nonRiemannian degrees of freedom are also taken into account. We then discuss some conditions under which torsion and non-metricity accelerate/decelerate the expansion rate of the Universe.
In this paper I examine how well Ryskin's model of emergent cosmic acceleration fits several sets of cosmological observations. I find that while Ryskin's model is somewhat compatible with the standard model of cosmological acceleration ($Λ$CDM) for low redshift (z < 1) measurements, its predictions diverge considerably from those of the standard model for measurements made at high redshift (for which z > 1), and it is therefore not a compelling substitute for the standard model.
A gravitational theory with derivative matter coupling is proposed which adopt de Sitter expansion at late times with ordinary baryonic matter. Matter components are conserved separately in the cosmological background and the Newtonian limit is well behaved. Also Conformal transformation of the theory to Jordan frame showing an effective cosmological constant explaining the nature of de Sitter acceleration.
In this paper, we have investigated the late time cosmic acceleration issue in the context of $f(R,T)$ gravity. The matter field is considered to be that of viscous fluid. The model has been framed as a mathematical formalism and the effect of viscous fluid on the cosmic expansion has been shown. The equation of state parameter indicates the quintessence behaviour of the Universe at late time. The theoretical results obtained here shows its alignment with the cosmological observations result.
