In this paper, we have investigated the late time cosmic acceleration issue in the context of $f(R,T)$ gravity. The matter field is considered to be that of viscous fluid. The model has been framed as a mathematical formalism and the effect of viscous fluid on the cosmic expansion has been shown. The equation of state parameter indicates the quintessence behaviour of the Universe at late time. The theoretical results obtained here shows its alignment with the cosmological observations result.
We study the effect of the inclusion of bulk brane viscosity on brane world (BW) cosmology in the framework of the Eckart's theory, we focus in the Randall-Sundrum model with negative tension on the brane.
Bianchi type III string cosmological models with bulk viscous fluid for massive string are investigated. To get the determinate model of the universe, we have assumed that the coefficient of bulk viscosity ($ξ$) is inversely proportional to the expansion ($θ$) in the model and expansion ($θ$) in the model is proportional to the shear ($σ$). This leads to $B = \ell C^{n}$, $\ell$ and $n$ are constants. The behaviour of the model in presence and absence of bulk viscosity, is discussed. The physical implications of the models are also discussed in detail.
In this paper we discuss some consequences of cosmological models in which the primordial cosmic matter is described by a relativistic imperfect fluid. The latter takes into account the dissipative effects (bulk viscosity) arising from different cooling rates of the fluid components in the expanding Universe. We discuss, in particular, the effects of the bulk viscosity on Big Bang Nucleosynthesis and on the thermal relic abundance of particles, looking at recent results of PAMELA experiment. The latter has determined an anomalous excess of positron events, that cannot be explained by the conve…
This paper focuses on the analysis of the gravitational instability in presence of bulk viscosity both in Newtonian regime and in the fully-relativistic approach. The standard Jeans Mechanism and the Quasi-Isotropic Solution are treated expressing the bulk-viscosity coefficient $ζ$ as a power-law of the fluid energy density $ρ$, i.e., $ζ=\zoρ^{s}$. In the Newtonian regime, the perturbation evolution is founded to be damped by viscosity and the top-down mechanism of structure fragmentation is suppressed. The value of the Jeans Mass remains unchanged also in presence of viscosity. In the relativ…
We study the dynamics of a bulk viscosity model in the Eckart approach for a spatially flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe. We have included radiation and dark energy, assumed as perfect fluids, and dark matter treated as an imperfect fluid having bulk viscosity. We also introduce an interaction term between the dark matter and dark energy components. Considering that the bulk viscosity is proportional to the dark matter energy density and imposing a complete cosmological dynamics, we find bounds on the bulk viscosity in order to reproduce a matter-dominated era (MDE). This constrai…
We study particle creation in the presence of bulk viscosity of cosmic fluid in the early universe within the framework of open thermodynamical systems. Since the first-order theory of non-equilibrium thermodynamics is non-causal and unstable, we try to solve the bulk viscosity equation of the cosmic fluid with particle creation through the full causal theory. By adopting an appropriate function for particle creation rate of "Creation of Cold Dark Matter" model, we obtain analytical solutions which do not suffer from the initial singularity and are in agreement with equivalent solutions of Lam…
Exact solutions for a model with variable $G$, $Λ$ and bulk viscosity are obtained. Inflationary solutions with constant (de Sitter-type) and variable energy density are found. An expanding anisotropic universe is found to isotropize during its course of expansion but a static universe is not. The gravitational constant is found to increase with time and the cosmological constant decreases with time as $Λ\propto t^{-2}$.
A simple model of uniformly expanding, homogeneous Universe with a bulk viscosity is studied wherein the inflationary density decays due to viscous dissipation during the expansion phase of the Universe. The model is shown to generate the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation (CMB). We also demonstrate that, at late times, the inflationary density asymptotically approaches a small finite constant value.
In the context of dark energy solutions, we consider a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spacetime filled with a non-interacting mixture of dust and a viscous fluid, whose bulk viscosity is governed by the nonlinear model proposed in [15]. Through a phase space analysis of the equivalent dynamical system, existence and stability of critical solutions are established and the respective scale factors are computed. The results point towards the possibility of describing the current accelerated expansion of the Universe by means of the abovementioned nonlinear model for viscosity.
Bianchi type V bulk viscous fluid cosmological models are investigated. Using a generation technique (Camci {\it et al.}, 2001), it is shown that the Einstein's field equations are solvable for any arbitrary cosmic scale function. The viscosity coefficient of bulk viscous fluid is assumed to be a power function of mass density. Solutions for particular forms of cosmic scale functions are also obtained. Some physical and geometric aspects of the models are also discussed.
We perform a global analysis of curved Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmologies in the presence of a viscous fluid. The fluid's bulk viscosity is governed by a first order theory recently proposed in [M. M. Disconzi, T. W. Kephart, and R. J. Scherrer, Phys. Rev. D 91, 043532 (2015)], and the analysis is carried out in a compactified parameter space with dimensionless coordinates. We provide stability properties, cosmological interpretation and thermodynamic features of the critical points.
In this paper, viscous generalized Chaplygin gas as a model of dark energy considered. We assume non-constant bulk viscous coefficient and study dark energy density. We consider several cases of density-dependent viscosities. We find that, in the special case, the viscous generalized Chaplygin gas is corresponding to modified Chaplygin gas.
Bianchi type V string cosmological models with bulk viscosity for massive string are investigated. The bulk viscosity is assumed to vary with time in such a manner that it is related to simple power function of the energy density. Using generation technique (Camci~et~al., 2001), it is shown that Einstein's field equations are solvable for any arbitrary cosmic scale function. Solution for particular form of cosmic scale functions are also obtained. It is found that solutions based on generation technique are relevant to the observational results. Some physical and geometrical aspect of the mode…
A recently proposed nonlinear transport equation is used to model bulk viscous cosmologies that may be far from equilibrium, as happens during viscous fluid inflation or during reheating. The asymptotic stability of the de Sitter and Friedmann solutions is investigated. The former is stable for bulk viscosity index $q<1$ and the latter for $q>1$. New solutions are obtained in the weakly nonlinear regime for $q=1$. These solutions are singular and some of them represent a late-time inflationary era.
The effect of bulk viscisity on the evolution of the homogeneous and isotropic cosmological models is considered. Solutions are found, with a barotropic equation of state, and a viscosity coefficient that is proportional to a power of the energy density of the universe. For flat space, power law expansions, related to extended inflation are found as well as exponential solutions, related to old inflation; also a solution with expansion that is an exponential of an exponential of the time is found.
In this paper it has been shown that the neutrino bulk viscous stresses can give rise to the late time acceleration of the universe. It is found that a number of spatially flat FRW models with a negative deceleration parameter can be constructed using neutrino viscosity and one of them mimics a $Λ$CDM model. This does not require any exotic dark energy component or any modification of gravity.
Multidimensional cosmological model describing the evolution of a fluid with shear and bulk viscosity in $n$ Ricci-flat spaces is investigated. The barotropic equation of state for the density and the pressure in each space is assumed. The second equation of state is chosen in the form when the bulk and the shear viscosity coefficients are inversely proportional to the volume of the Universe. The integrability of Einstein equations reads as a colinearity constraint between vectors which are related to constant parameters in the first and second equations of state. We give exact solutions in a …
In this paper, we have analyzed the significance of bulk viscosity in an axially symmetric Bianchi type-I model to study the accelerated expansion of the universe. We have considered four bulk viscosity parameterizations for the matter-dominated cosmological model. The function of the two significant Hubble $H(z)$ and deceleration parameters are discussed in detail. The energy parameters of the universe are computed using the most recent observational Hubble data (57 data points) in the redshift range $0.07 \leq z \leq 2.36)$. In this model, we obtained all feasible solutions with the viscous …
In this paper we study the relativistic bulk tensor, shear tensor and the shear stress viscosity of the relativistic accretion disks around the rotating black holes. we calculate all non-zero components of the bulk tensor, shear tensor and shear stress viscosity in the equatorial plan in the BLF. We obtain the relations of the relativistic bulk tensor, shear tensor and shear stress viscosity in the terms of components of four velocity and derivatives, Christoffel symbols and metric components. To see the behaviorr of the components of relativistic bulk tensor, shear tensor and shear stress vis…
We investigate the integrability of cosmic strings in Bianchi III space-time in presence of a bulk viscous fluid by applying a new technique. The behaviour of the model is reduced to the solution of a single second order nonlinear differential equation. We show that this equation admits an infinite family of solutions. Some physical consequences from these results are also discussed.
We derive a general formalism for bulk viscous solutions of the energy-conservation-equation for $ρ(a,ζ)$, both for a single-component and a multicomponent fluid in the Friedmann universe. For our purposes these general solutions become valuable in estimating order of magnitude of the phenomenological viscosity in the cosmic fluid at present. $H(z)$ observations are found to put an upper limit on the magnitude of the modulus of the present day bulk viscosity. It is found to be $ζ_0\sim 10^6~$Pa s, in agreement with previous works. We point out that this magnitude is acceptable from a hydrodyna…
A new model is proposed to a collapsing star consisting of an anisotropic fluid with bulk viscosity, radial heat flow and outgoing radiation. In a previous paper one of us has introduced a function time dependent into the $g_{rr}$, besides the time dependent metric functions $g_{θθ}$ and $g_{ϕϕ}$. The aim of this work is to generalize this previous model by introducing bulk viscosity and compare it to the non-viscous collapse. The behavior of the density, pressure, mass, luminosity and the effective adiabatic index is analyzed. Our work is also compared to the case of a collapsing fluid with b…
The possibility that the present acceleration of the universe is driven by a kind of viscous fluid is exploited. At background level this model is similar to the generalized Chaplygin gas model (GCGM). But, at perturbative level, the viscous fluid exhibits interesting properties. In particular the oscillations in the power spectrum that plagues the GCGM are not present. Possible fundamental descriptions for this viscous dark energy are discussed.
We discuss the connection among three distinct classes of models often used to explain the late cosmic acceleration: decaying cosmological term, bulk viscous pressure, and nonlinear fluids. We focus on models that are equivalent at zeroth order, in the sense they lead to the same solutions for the evolution of the scale factor. More specifically, we show explicit examples where this equivalence is manifest, which include some well know models belonging to each class, such as a power law Lambda-term, a model with constant viscosity, and the Modified Chaplygin Gas. We also obtain new analytic so…
We show that the cosmic bulk viscosity estimated in our previous works is sufficient to bridge the $H_0$ value inferred from observations of the early universe with the value inferred from the local (late) universe.
In this paper we study the gravitational instability in presence of viscosity. In particular, the standard Jeans Mechanism is analyzed taking into account bulk-viscosity effects in the first-order Newtonian dynamics. We show how the perturbation evolution is damped by dissipative processes and the top-down fragmentation mechanism is suppressed for strong viscous effects. The critical value of the Jeans Mass remains unchanged also in presence of bulk viscosity.
A universe consisting of two interacting perfect fluids with the same 4-velocity is considered. A heuristic mean free time argument is used to show that the system as a whole cannot be perfect as well but neccessarily implies a nonvanishing bulk viscosity. A new formula for the latter is derived and compared with corresponding results of radiative hydrodynamics.
The intention of this paper is mainly two-fold. \textit{First}, we point out a striking numerical agreement between the bulk viscosity in the lepton era calculated by Husdal (2016) and our own calculations of the present-day bulk viscosity when the functional form is $ζ\,\sim\sqrtρ$. From a phenomenological point of view, we thus seem to have an ansatz for the viscosity which bridges the infancy of the Universe ($\sim 1$ s) with the present. This can also be looked upon as a kind of symmetry between the early-time cosmology and the present-day cosmology: it is quite remarkable that the kinetic…
We investigate the effects of the accretion of phantom energy with non-zero bulk viscosity onto a Morris-Thorne wormhole. We have found that if the bulk viscosity is large then the mass of wormhole increases rapidly as compared to small or zero bulk viscosity.
The approach of extended irreversible thermodynamics consists of promoting the dissipative fluxes to non-equilibrium thermodynamic variables. In a relativistic context, this naturally leads to the formulation of the theory of Israel and Stewart (1979), which is, to date, one of the most successful theories for relativistic dissipation. Although the generality of the principle makes it applicable to any dissipative fluid, a connection of the Israel-Stewart theory with microphysics has been established, through kinetic theory, only for the case of ideal quantum gases. By performing a convenient …
In a homogeneous and isotropic universe bulk viscosity is the unique viscous effect capable to modify the background dynamics. Effects like shear viscosity or heat conduction can only change the evolution of the perturbations. The existence of a bulk viscous pressure in a fluid, which in order to obey to the second law of thermodynamics is negative, reduces its effective pressure. We discuss in this study the degeneracy in bulk viscous cosmologies and address the possibility that phantom dark energy cosmology could be caused by the existence of non-equilibrium pressure in any cosmic component.…
In a recent Letter [Phys. Rev. Lett. 114 091301 (2105)] the cause of the acceleration of the present Universe has been identified with the shear viscosity of an imperfect relativistic fluid even in the absence of any bulk viscous contribution. The gist of this comment is that the shear viscosity, if anything, can only lead to an accelerated expansion over sufficiently small scales well inside the Hubble radius.
We derive from Einstein equation an evolution law for the area of a trapping or dynamical horizon. The solutions to this differential equation show a causal behavior. Moreover, in a viscous fluid analogy, the equation can be interpreted as an energy balance law, yielding to a positive bulk viscosity. These two features contrast with the event horizon case, where the non-causal evolution of the area and the negative bulk viscosity require teleological boundary conditions. This reflects the local character of trapping horizons as opposed to event horizons. Interpreting the area as the entropy, w…
The null horizon focusing equation is equivalent via the fluid/gravity correspondence to the entropy balance law of the fluid. Using this equation we derive a simple novel formula for the bulk viscosity of the fluid. The formula is expressed in terms of the dependence of scalar fields at the horizon on thermodynamic variables such as the entropy and charge densities. We apply the formula to three classes of gauge theory plasmas: non-conformal branes, perturbations of the N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory and holographic models of QCD, and discuss its range of applicability.
Based on the previous paper arXiv:1207.5309, we investigate the possibility to find out the bulk viscosity of dual fluid at the finite cutoff surface via gravity/fluid correspondence in Einstein-Maxwell gravity. We find that if we adopt new conditions to fix the undetermined parameters contained in the stress tensor and charged current of the dual fluid, two new terms appear in the stress tensor of the dual fluid. One new term is related to the bulk viscosity term, while the other can be related to the perturbation of energy density. In addition, since the parameters contained in the charged c…
In this paper we present two concrete models of non-perfect fluid with bulk viscosity to interpret the observed cosmic accelerating expansion phenomena, avoiding the introduction of exotic dark energy. The first model we inspect has a viscosity of the form $ζ = ζ_0 + (ζ_1-ζ_2q)H$ by taking into account of the decelerating parameter q, and the other model is of the form $ζ = ζ_0 + ζ_1H + ζ_2H^2$. We give out the exact solutions of such models and further constrain them with the latest Union2 data as well as the currently observed Hubble-parameter dataset (OHD), then we discuss the fate of unive…
The dissipation of energy from local velocity perturbations in the cosmological fluid affects the time evolution of spatially averaged fluid dynamic fields and the cosmological solution of Einstein's field equations. We show how this backreaction effect depends on shear and bulk viscosity and other material properties of the dark sector, as well as the spectrum of perturbations. If sufficiently large, this effect could account for the acceleration of the cosmological expansion.
Einstein equations projected on to a black hole horizon gives rise to Navier-Stokes equations. Horizon-fluids typically possess unusual features like negative bulk viscosity and it is not clear whether a statistical mechanical description exists for such fluids. In this work, we provide an explicit derivation of the Bulk viscosity of the horizon-fluid based on the theory of fluctuations a la Kubo. The main advantage of our approach is that our analysis remains for the most part independent of the details of the underlying microscopic theory and hence the conclusions reached here are model inde…
In this paper, we investigate the viscous modified Chaplygin gas cosmological model. Solutions for different values of the viscosity parameter are obtained using both analytical and numerical methods. We have calculated the deceleration and defined {\em newly} statefinder $\{r, s \}$ pair in D dimensions. It is shown that when $D=4$, the usual statefinder parameters are recovered. Furthermore, we apply the statefinder diagnostic to the MCG model with and without viscosity in $D$ dimensions and explore these parameters graphically.
In this work, we show the dependence of bulk viscosity on Polyakov loop in 3+1 dimensional topologically massive model (TMM). This model contains equally massive non-Abelian gauge fields without spontaneous symmetry breaking. In earlier works, the bulk viscosity was found from the trace anomaly in massless $ϕ^4$ model and Yang-Mills (YM) theory and its dependence on the quantum corrections was established. In TMM, the trace anomaly is absent due to the presence of kinetic term of a two-form field $B$ in the action. This model also provides the dependence of bulk viscosity on the mass of the ga…
In this work, we estimate how much bulk viscosity driven by Urca processes is likely to affect the gravitational wave signal of a neutron star coalescence. In the late inspiral, we show that bulk viscosity affects the binding energy at fourth post-Newtonian (PN) order. Even though this effect is enhanced by the square of the gravitational compactness, the coefficient of bulk viscosity is likely too small to lead to observable effects in the waveform during the late inspiral, when only considering the orbital motion itself. In the post-merger, however, the characteristic time-scales and spatial…
The decay of the inflaton into radiation and particles during the slow-roll suggests that these may interact with each other and that the latter may also decay into subproducts before inflation is completed. As a consequence, the fluid is no longer perfect and a non-negligible bulk viscosity necessarily sets in. We write the corresponding equations as an autonomous system and study the asymptotic behavior, the conditions for the existence of scaling solutions, and show that the late time effect of fluid dissipation alleviates the depletion of matter and increases the duration of inflation.
We compute the bulk viscosity of a mixed quark-hadron phase. In the first scenario to be discussed, the mixed phase occurs at large densities and we assume that it is composed of a mixing of hyperonic matter and quarks in the Color Flavor Locked phase. In a second scenario, the mixed phase occurs at lower densities and it is composed of a mixing of nucleons and unpaired quark matter. We have also investigated the effect of a non-vanishing surface tension at the interface between hadronic and quark matter. In both scenarios, the bulk viscosity is large when the surface tension is absent, while …
We prove that Einstein's equations coupled to equations of Israel-Stewart-type, describing the dynamics of a relativistic fluid with bulk viscosity and nonzero baryon charge (without shear viscosity or baryon diffusion) dynamically coupled to gravity, are causal in the full nonlinear regime. We also show that these equations can be written as a first-order symmetric hyperbolic system, implying local existence and uniqueness of solutions to the equations of motion. We use an arbitrary equation of state and do not make any simplifying symmetry or near-equilibrium assumption, requiring only physi…
Recent studies of the hot QCD matter indicate that the bulk viscosity ($ζ$) of quark-gluon plasma (QGP) rises sharply near the critical point of the QCD phase transition. In this work, we show that such a sharp rise of the bulk viscosity will lead to an effective negative pressure near the critical temperature, $T_{c}$ which in turn drives the Universe to inflate. This inflation has a natural graceful exist when the viscous effect evanesce. We estimate that, depending upon the peak value of $ζ$, universe expands by a factor of $10$ to $80$ times in a very short span ($Δt\sim 10^{-8}$ seconds).…
