We derive a general formalism for bulk viscous solutions of the energy-conservation-equation for $ρ(a,ζ)$, both for a single-component and a multicomponent fluid in the Friedmann universe. For our purposes these general solutions become valuable in estimating order of magnitude of the phenomenological viscosity in the cosmic fluid at present. $H(z)$ observations are found to put an upper limit on the magnitude of the modulus of the present day bulk viscosity. It is found to be $ζ_0\sim 10^6~$Pa s, in agreement with previous works. We point out that this magnitude is acceptable from a hydrodynamic point of view. Finally, we bring new insight by using our estimates of $ζ$ to analyse the fate of the future universe. Of special interest is the case $ζ\propto \sqrtρ$ for which the fluid, originally situated in the quintessence region, may slide through the phantom barrier and inevitably be driven into a big rip. Typical rip times are found to be a few hundred Gy.
We probe into universes filled with Quark Gluon Plasma with non-zero viscosities. In particular, we study the evolution of a universe with non-zero shear viscosity motivated by the theoretical result of a non-vanishing shear viscosity in the Quark Gluon Plasma due to quantum-mechanical effects. We first review the consequences of a non-zero bulk viscosity and show explicitly the non-singular nature of the bulk-viscosity-universe by calculating the cosmological scale factor $R(t)$ which goes to zero only asymptotically. We further extend the model of bulk viscosity to include a Cosmological Con…
In this earliest study of thick accretion disks with viscosity effects, we construct stationary solutions of a relativistic geometrically thick accretion disk in the Schwarzschild spacetime under the influence of shear viscosity and the curvature of the black hole by solving the general relativistic causal Navier-Stokes equation. Motivated by the causal prescription of relativistic hydrodynamics initially introduced in Müller-Israel-Stewart theories, our approach adopts a simplistic path and takes into account of only shear viscosity, discarding influences of bulk viscosity and heat flow. This…
Locally-rotationally-symmetric Bianchi type-I viscous and non -viscous cosmological models are explored in general relativity (GR) and in f(R,T) gravity. Solutions are obtained by assuming that the expansion scalar is proportional to the shear scalar which yields a constant value for the deceleration parameter (q=2). Constraints are obtained by requiring the physical viability of the solutions. A comparison is made between the viscous and non-viscous models, and between the models in GR and in f(R,T) gravity. The metric potentials remain the same in GR and in f(R,T) gravity. Consequently, the …
We study the static and spherically symmetric wormhole spacetime configurations at present time in a viscous universe. Considering three classes of viscous models, i.e., bulk viscosity as a function of Hubble constant $H_0$, present cosmic temperature $T_0$ and dark energy density $ρ_0$, respectively, we obtain several wormhole solutions. Through the analysis for the anisotropic solutions, we conclude that, to some extent, these three classes of viscous models have very high degeneracy with each other, and deviate slightly from the ideal fluid consequence. Subsequently, without the loss of gen…
We describe the accelerated expansion of the late-time universe using a generalized equation of state (EoS) when account is taken of bulk viscosity. We assume a homogeneous and isotropic Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spacetime. Solutions of the gravitational equations for dark energy are obtained in implicit form. Characteristic properties of the Universe evolution in the presence of the viscosity effects are discussed. Finally, the dynamics of the accelerated expansion of the viscous universe is discussed, on the basis of a modified logarithmic-corrected EoS.
We explore the behaviour of barotropic and irrotational fluids with a small viscosity under the effect of first-order acoustic perturbations. We discuss, following the extant literature, the difficulties in gleaning an acoustic geometry in the presence of viscosity. In order to obviate various technical encumbrances, when viscosity is present, for an extraction of a possible acoustic geometry, we adopted a method of double perturbations, whereby dynamical quantities such as the velocity field and potential undergo a perturbation both in viscosity and in an external acoustic stimulus. The resul…
A spatially homogeneous and locally rotationally symmetric Bianchi type-II cosmological model under the influence of both shear and bulk viscosity has been studied. Exact solutions are obtained with a barotropic equation of state between thermodynamics pressure and the energy density of the fluid, and considering the linear relationships amongst the energy density, the expansion scalar and the shear scalar. Special cases with vanishing bulk viscosity coefficients and with the perfect fluid in the absence of viscosity have also been studied. The formal appearance of the solutions is the same fo…
The effect of energy absorption during the binary evolution of Exotic-compact-objects (ECOs) is extensively studied. We review the underlying mechanism that provides the energy dissipation in material objects - tidal friction. We show that unlike typical astrophysical objects, where absorption due to viscosity is negligible, in ECOs, absorption could potentially mimic the analogous effect of black-holes (BHs) - tidal heating. We stand for their differences and similarities in the context of energy dissipation during the inspiral. Inspired by the membrane paradigm and recent studies, we demonst…
The cosmological observations suggest that the presently accelerating universe should be filled by an exotic form of matter, violating the strong energy condition, of unknown nature and origin. We propose the viscous dark matter of a source of acceleration in the form of Chaplygin gas which is characterized by equation of state in the phenomenological form $p=-\frac{A}{ρ^α}$, where $p$ and $ρ$ are pressure and energy density respectively ($A$ and $α$ are constants). Chaplygin gas is interpreted in terms of viscous matter and without the cosmological constant. The acceleration effect is caused …
In a spatially flat Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker universe, we investigate a unified cosmic fluid scenario endowed with bulk viscosity in which the coefficient of the bulk viscosity has a power law evolution. The power law in the bulk viscous coefficient is a general case in this study which naturally includes several choices as special cases. Considering such a general bulk viscous scenario, in the present work we have extracted the observational constraints using the latest cosmological datasets and examine their behaviour at the level of both background and perturbations. From the obs…
