The pion distribution amplitude (DA) can be related to the fundamental QCD Green's functions as a function of the quark self-energy and the quark-pion vertex, which in turn are associated with the pion wave function through the Bethe-Salpeter equation. Considering the extreme hard asymptotic behavior in momentum space allowed for a pseudoscalar wave function, which is limited by its normalization condition, we compute the pion DA and its second moment. From the resulting amplitude, representing the field theoretical upper limit on the DA behavior, we calculate the photon-pion transition form factor $F_{πγγ^{\ast}}(Q^{2})$. The resulting upper limit on the pion transition form factor is compared with existing data published by CLEO, BaBar and Belle collaborations.
Within the framework of the massive O($N$) nonlinear sigma model extended to the next-to-leading order in the chiral counting (for $N=3$ corresponding to the two(-quark)-flavor Chiral Perturbation Theory), we calculate the relativistic six-pion scattering amplitude at low energy up to and including terms $\mathcal{O}(p^4)$. Results for the pion mass, decay constant and the four-pion amplitude in the case of $N$ (meson) flavors at $\mathcal{O}(p^4)$ are also presented.
We present a lattice QCD determination of the distribution amplitude (DA) of the pion and the first few Mellin moments from an analysis of the quasi-DA matrix element within the leading-twist framework. We perform our study on a HISQ ensemble with $a=0.076$ fm lattice spacing with the Wilson-Clover valence quark mass tuned to the physical point. We analyze the ratios of pion quasi-DA matrix elements at short distances using the leading-twist Mellin operator product expansion (OPE) at the next-to-leading order and the conformal OPE at the leading-logarithmic order. We find a robust result for t…
We analyze the spectrum of two- and three-pion states of maximal isospin obtained recently for isosymmetric QCD with pion mass $M\approx 200\;$MeV in Ref. [1]. Using the relativistic three-particle quantization condition, we find $\sim 2 σ$ evidence for a nonzero value for the contact part of the three-$π^+$ ($I=3$) scattering amplitude. We also compare our results to leading-order chiral perturbation theory. We find good agreement at threshold, and some tension in the energy dependent part of the three-$π^+$scattering amplitude. We also find that the two-$π^+$ ($I=2$) spectrum is fit well by …
We present the state-of-the-art lattice QCD calculation of the pion and kaon light-cone distribution amplitudes (DAs) using large-momentum effective theory. The calculation is done at three lattice spacings $a\approx\{0.06,0.09,0.12\}$ fm and physical pion and kaon masses, with the meson momenta $P_z = \{1.29,1.72,2.15\}$ GeV. The result is non-perturbatively renormalized in a recently proposed hybrid scheme with self renormalization, and extrapolated to the continuum as well as the infinite momentum limit. We find a significant deviation of the pion and kaon DAs from the asymptotic form, and …
The pion light-cone distribution amplitude (LCDA) is a central non-perturbative object of interest for the calculation of high-energy exclusive processes in quantum chromodynamics. This article describes the progress in the lattice QCD calculation of the fourth Mellin moment of the pion LCDA using a heavy-quark operator product expansion (HOPE).
We investigate wide-angle photo- and electroproduction of pions within the handbag mechanism in which the $γ^{(*)} N\to πN'$ amplitudes factorize into hard partonic subprocess amplitudes, $γ^{(*)} q\to πq'$, and form factors representing $1/x$-moments of generalized parton distributions (GPDs). The subprocess is calculated to twist-3 accuracy taking into account the 2- and 3-body Fock components of the pion. Both components are required for achieving gauge invariance in QED and QCD. The twist-2 and twist-3 distribution amplitudes (DAs) of the pion as well as the form factors are taken from our…
We discuss the pion and kaon distribution amplitudes up to twist-3 in the context of the random instanton vacuum (RIV). We construct explicitly the pertinent quasi-pion and quasi-kaon distributions in the RIV, and analyze them in leading order in the diluteness factor, at a resolution fixed by the inverse instanton size. The distribution amplitudes (DA) follow from the large momentum limit. The results at higher resolution are discussed using QCD evolution, and compared to their asymptotic limits and some lattice results.
Roy's equations and the pion-pion experimental data
We explore the feasibility of determining Mellin moments of the pion's light cone distribution amplitude using the heavy quark operator product expansion (HOPE) method. As the first step of a proof of principle study we pursue a determination of the second Mellin moment. We discuss our choice of kinematics which allows us to successfully extract the moment at low pion momentum. We describe the numerical simulation, and describe the data analysis, which leads us to a preliminary determination of the second Mellin moment in the continuum limit in the quenched approximation as $\langleξ^2\rangle=…
The pion light-cone distribution amplitude (LCDA) is a central non-perturbative object of interest for high-energy exclusive processes in quantum chromodynamics. In this article, the second Mellin moment of the pion LCDA is determined as a proof-of-concept calculation for the first numerical implementation of the heavy-quark operator product expansion (HOPE) method. The resulting value for the second Mellin moment, determined in quenched QCD at a pion mass of $m_π=550$ MeV at a factorization scale of 2 GeV is $ \langle ξ^2 \rangle = 0.210 \pm 0.013\text{ (stat.)} \pm 0.034\text{ (sys.)}$.
