The hypercontractivity is proved for the Markov semigroup associated to a class of finite/infinite dimensional stochastic Hamiltonian systems.
Consequently, the Markov semigroup is exponentially convergent to the invariant probability measure in entropy (thus, also in $L^2$), and is compact for large time. Since the log-Sobolev inequality is invalid for the associated Dirichlet form, we introduce a general result on the hypercontractivity using the Harnack inequality with power. The main results are illustrated by concrete examples.
An explicit sufficient condition on the hypercontractivity is derived for the Markov semigroup associated to a class of functional stochastic differential equations. Consequently, the semigroup $P_t$ converges exponentially to its unique invariant probability measure $μ$ in entropy, $L^2(μ)$ and the totally variational norm, and it is compact in $L^2(μ)$ for large $t>0$. This provides a natural class of non-symmetric Markov semigroups which are compact for large time but non-compact for small time. A semi-linear model which may not satisfy this sufficient condition is also investigated.
Explicit sufficient conditions on the hypercontractivity are presented for two classes of functional stochastic partial differential equations driven by, respectively, non-degenerate and degenerate Gaussian noises. Consequently, these conditions imply that the associated Markov semigroup is $L^2$-compact and exponentially convergent to the stationary distribution in entropy, variance and total variational norm. As the log-Sobolev inequality is invalid under the framework, we apply a criterion presented in the recent paper \cite{Wang14} using Harnack inequality, coupling property and Gaussian c…
By using coupling and Girsanov transformations, the dimension-free Harnack inequality and the strong Feller property are proved for transition semigroups of solutions to a class of stochastic generalized porous media equations. As applications, explicit upper bounds of the $L^p$-norm of the density as well as hypercontractivity, ultracontractivity and compactness of the corresponding semigroup are derived.
According to the theory of functional inequalities, a non-symmetric Markov semigroup has better properties than the corresponding symmetric one. For instance, there exist non-symmetric Markov semigroups which are hypercontractive (and thus converge exponentially in both $L^2$ and entropy), but the symmetric ones are even not ergodic. In this paper, we aim to search for reasonable conditions to ensure that a non-symmetric Markov semigroup and its symmetrization share the properties of exponential convergence, uniform integrability, hypercontractivity, and supercontractivity. Since in the symmet…
In this article we establish a large deviation principle for the family {ν_ε:ε\in (0,1)} of distributions of the scaled stochastic processes {P_{-\log\sqrtε}Z_t}_{t\leq 1}, where (Z_t)_{t\in \lbrack 0,1]} is a square-integrable martingale over Brownian filtration and (P_t)_{t\geq 0} is the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup. The rate function is identified as well in terms of the Wiener-Itô chaos decomposition of the terminal value Z_{1}. The result is established by developing a continuity theorem for large deviations, together with two essential tools, the hypercontractivity of the Ornstein-Uhlenb…
In the present work we formally extend the theory of port-Hamiltonian systems to include random perturbations. In particular, suitably choosing the space of flow and effort variables we will show how several elements coming from possibly different physical domains can be interconnected in order to describe a dynamic system perturbed by general continuous semimartingale. Relevant enough, the noise does not enter into the system solely as an external random perturbation, since each port is itself intrinsically stochastic. Coherently to the classical deterministic setting, we will show how such a…
This work focuses on a class of stochastic damping Hamiltonian systems with state-dependent switching, where the switching process has a countably infinite state space. After establishing the existence and uniqueness of a global weak solution via the martingale approach under very mild conditions, the paper next proves the strong Feller property for regime-switching stochastic damping Hamiltonian systems by the killing technique together with some resolvent and transition probability identities. The commonly used continuity assumption for the switching rates $q_{kl}(\cdot)$ in the literature i…
The dimension free Harnack inequality is established for the distribution dependent stochastic Hamiltonian system, where the drift is Lipschitz continuous in the measure variable under the distance induced by the Hölder-Dini continuous functions, which are $β(β>\frac{2}{3})$-Hölder continuous on the degenerate component and square root of Dini continuous on the non-degenerate one. The results extend the existing ones in which the drift is Lipschitz continuous in the measure variable under $L^2$-Wasserstein distance.
We investigate the effective behaviour of a small transversal perturbation of order $ε$ to a completely integrable stochastic Hamiltonian system, by which we mean a stochastic differential equation whose diffusion vector fields are formed from a completely integrable family of Hamiltonian functions $H_i, i=1,\dots n$. An averaging principle is shown to hold and the action component of the solution converges, as $ε\to 0$, to the solution of a deterministic system of differential equations when the time is rescaled at $1/ε$. An estimate for the rate of the convergence is given. In the case when …
By Girsanov's thoerem and using the existing log-Harnack inequality for distribution independent SDEs, the log-Harnack inequality is derived for path-distribution dependent stochastic Hamiltonian systems. As an application, the exponential ergodicity in relative entropy is obtained by combining with transportation cost inequality. In addition, the quantitative propagation of chaos in the sense of Wasserstein distance, which together with the coupling by change of measure implies the quantitative propagation of chaos in total variation norm as well as relative entropy are obtained.
The eigenvalue problem of stochastic Hamiltonian systems with boundary conditions was studied by Peng \cite{peng} in 2000. For one-dimensional case, denoting by $\{λ_n\}_{n=1}^{\infty}$ all the eigenvalues of such an eigenvalue problem, Peng proved that $λ_n\to +\infty$. In this short note, we prove that the growth order of $λ_n$ is the same as $n^2$ as $n\to +\infty$. Apart from the interesting of its own, by this result, the statistic period of solutions of FBSDEs can be estimated directly by corresponding coefficients and time duration.
This paper is the third part of our study started with Cattiaux, León and Prieur [Stochastic Process. Appl. 124 (2014) 1236-1260; ALEA Lat. Am. J. Probab. Math. Stat. 11 (2014) 359-384]. For some ergodic Hamiltonian systems, we obtained a central limit theorem for a nonparametric estimator of the invariant density [Stochastic Process. Appl. 124 (2014) 1236-1260] and of the drift term [ALEA Lat. Am. J. Probab. Math. Stat. 11 (2014) 359-384], under partial observation (only the positions are observed). Here, we obtain similarly a central limit theorem for a nonparametric estimator of the diffusi…
We extend some aspects of the Hamilton-Jacobi theory to the category of stochastic Hamiltonian dynamical systems. More specifically, we show that the stochastic action satisfies the Hamilton-Jacobi equation when, as in the classical situation, it is written as a function of the configuration space using a regular Lagrangian submanifold. Additionally, we will use a variation of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation to characterize the generating functions of one-parameter groups of symplectomorphisms that allow to rewrite a given stochastic Hamiltonian system in a form whose solutions are very easy to f…
We derive the Helmholtz theorem for stochastic Hamiltonian systems. Precisely, we give a theorem characterizing Stratonovich stochastic differential equations, admitting a Hamiltonian formulation. Moreover, in the affirmative case, we give the associated Hamiltonian. This result show coherence with the approach of \cite{milstein} where the authors answered to this problem through the preservation of the symplectic form but without providing the Hamiltonian associated.
We establish exponential ergodicity for the stochastic Hamiltonian system $(X_t, V_t)_{t\ge0}$ on $\mathbb{R}^{2d}$ with Lévy noises \begin{align*} \begin{cases} \mathrm{d} X_t=\big(a X_t+bV_t\big)\,\mathrm{d} t,\\ \mathrm{d} V_t=U(X_t,V_t)\,\mathrm{d} t+\mathrm{d} L_t, \end{cases} \end{align*} where $a\ge 0$, $b> 0$, $U:\mathbb{R}^{2d}\to\mathbb{R}^d$ and $(L_t)_{t\ge0}$ is an $\mathbb{R}^d$-valued pure jump Lévy process. The approach is based on a new refined basic coupling for Lévy processes and a Lyapunov function for stochastic Hamiltonian systems. In particular, we can handle the case th…
We present a definition of stochastic Hamiltonian process on finite graph via its corresponding density dynamics in Wasserstein manifold. We demonstrate the existence of stochastic Hamiltonian process in many classical discrete problems, such as the optimal transport problem, Schrödinger equation and Schrödinger bridge problem (SBP). The stationary and periodic properties of Hamiltonian processes are also investigated in the framework of SBP.
In this paper, we study the stochastic Hamiltonian flow in Wasserstein manifold, the probability density space equipped with $L^2$-Wasserstein metric tensor, via the Wong--Zakai approximation. We begin our investigation by showing that the stochastic Euler-Lagrange equation, regardless it is deduced from either variational principle or particle dynamics, can be interpreted as the stochastic kinetic Hamiltonian flows in Wasserstein manifold. We further propose a novel variational formulation to derive more general stochastic Wassersetin Hamiltonian flows, and demonstrate that this new formulati…
A white noise quantum stochastic calculus is developped using classical measure theory as mathematical tool. Wick's and Ito's theorems have been established. The simplest quantum stochastic differential equation has been solved, unicity and the conditions for unitarity have been proven. The Hamiltonian of the associated one parameter strongly continuous group has been calculated explicitely.
In this paper, we study the sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions of first-order Hamiltonian stochastic impulsive differential equations under Dirichlet boundary value conditions. By using the variational method, we first obtain the corresponding energy functional. And by using Legendre transformation, we obtain the conjugation of the functional. Then the existence of critical point is obtained by mountain pass lemma. Finally, we assert that the critical point of the energy functional is the mild solution of the first order Hamiltonian stochastic impulsive differential equation.…
In this article, we study the Anderson Hamiltonian in the full space and prove wellposedness of nonlinear stochastic wave equation and NLS with polynomial nonlinearities.
The present work address the problem of energy shaping for stochastic port-Hamiltonian system. Energy shaping is a powerful technique that allows to systematically find feedback law to shape the Hamiltonian of a controlled system so that, under a general passivity condition, it converges or tracks a desired configuration. Energy shaping has been recently generalized to consider stochastic port-Hamiltonian system. Nonetheless the resulting theory presents several limitation in the application so that relevant examples, such as the additive noise case, are immediately ruled out from the possible…
We use the global stochastic analysis tools introduced by P. A. Meyer and L. Schwartz to write down a stochastic generalization of the Hamilton equations on a Poisson manifold that, for exact symplectic manifolds, are characterized by a natural critical action principle similar to the one encountered in classical mechanics. Several features and examples in relation with the solution semimartingales of these equations are presented.
In this paper we solve the eigenvalue problem of stochastic Hamiltonian system with boundary conditions. Firstly, we extend the results in S. Peng \cite{peng} from time-invariant case to time-dependent case, proving the existence of a series of eigenvalues $\{λ_m\}$ and construct corresponding eigenfunctions. Moreover, the order of growth for these $\{λ_m\}$ are obtained: $λ_m\sim m^2$, as $m\rightarrow+\infty$. As applications, we give an explicit estimation formula about the statistic period of solutions of Forward-Backward SDEs. Besides, by a meticulous example we show the subtle situation …
Proposals for Metropolis-Hastings MCMC derived by discretizing Langevin diffusion or Hamiltonian dynamics are examples of stochastic autoregressive proposals that form a natural wider class of proposals with equivalent computability. We analyze Metropolis-Hastings MCMC with stochastic autoregressive proposals applied to target distributions that are absolutely continuous with respect to some Gaussian distribution to derive expressions for expected acceptance probability and expected jump size, as well as measures of computational cost, in the limit of high dimension. Thus, we are able to unify…
We develop a new technique for proving concentration inequalities which relate between the variance and influences of Boolean functions. Using this technique, we 1. Settle a conjecture of Talagrand [Tal97] proving that $$\int_{\left\{ -1,1\right\} ^{n}}\sqrt{h_{f}\left(x\right)}dμ\geq C\cdot\mathrm{var}\left(f\right)\cdot\left(\log\left(\frac{1}{\sum\mathrm{Inf}_{i}^{2}\left(f\right)}\right)\right)^{1/2},$$ where $h_{f}\left(x\right)$ is the number of edges at $x$ along which $f$ changes its value, and $\mathrm{Inf}_{i}\left(f\right)$ is the influence of the $i$-th coordinate. 2. Strengthen se…
For a zero-sum stochastic game which does not satisfy the Isaacs condition, we provide a value function representation for an Isaacs-type equation whose Hamiltonian lies in between the lower and upper Hamiltonians, as a convex combination of the two. For the general case (i.e. the convex combination is time and state dependent) our representation amounts to a random change of the rules of the game, to allow each player at any moment to see the other player's action or not, according to a coin toss with probabilities of heads and tails given by the convex combination appearing in the PDE. If th…
We develop the connection between large deviation theory and more applied approaches to stochastic hybrid systems by highlighting a common underlying Hamiltonian structure. A stochastic hybrid system involves the coupling between a piecewise deterministic dynamical system in $R^d$ and a time-homogeneous Markov chain on some discrete space $Γ$. We assume that the Markov chain on $Γ$ is ergodic, and that the discrete dynamics is much faster than the piecewise deterministic dynamics (separation of time-scales). Using the Perron-Frobenius theorem and the calculus-of-variations, we evaluate the rat…
We consider Hamilton-Jacobi equations in one space dimension with Hamiltonians of the form $H(p,x,ω) = G(p) + βV(x,ω)$, where $V(\cdot,ω)$ is a stationary and ergodic potential of unit amplitude. The homogenization of such equations is established in a 2016 paper of Armstrong, Tran and Yu for all continuous and coercive $G$. Under the extra condition that $G$ is a double-well function (i.e., it has precisely two local minima), we give a new and fully constructive proof of homogenization which yields a formula for the effective Hamiltonian $\overline H$. We use this formula to provide a complet…
We analyze the asymptotic behaviour of the heat kernel defined by a stochastically perturbed geodesic flow on the cotangent bundle of a Riemannian manifold for small time and small diffusion parameter. This extends WKB-type methods to a particular case of a degenerate Hamiltonian. We derive uniform bounds for the solution of the degenerate Hamiltonian boundary value problem for small time. From this equivalence of solutions of the Hamiltonian equations and the corresponding Hamilton Jacobi equation follows. The results are exploited to derive two sided estimates and multiplicative asymptotics …
We discuss the Donsker-Varadhan theory of large deviations in the framework of Hamiltonian systems thermostated by a Gaussian stochastic coupling. We derive a general formula for the Donsker-Varadhan large deviation functional for dynamics which satisfy natural properties under time reversal. Next, we discuss the characterization of the stationary state as the solution of a variational principle and its relation to the minimum entropy production principle. Finally, we compute the large deviation functional of the current in the case of a harmonic chain thermostated by a Gaussian stochastic cou…
We consider nonparametric invariant density and drift estimation for a class of multidimensional degenerate resp. hypoelliptic diffusion processes, so-called stochastic damping Hamiltonian systems or kinetic diffusions, under anisotropic smoothness assumptions on the unknown functions. The analysis is based on continuous observations of the process, and the estimators' performance is measured in terms of the sup-norm loss. Regarding invariant density estimation, we obtain highly nonclassical results for the rate of convergence, which reflect the inhomogeneous variance structure of the process.…
In this paper, a stochastic Hamiltonian formulation (SHF) is proposed and applied to dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) simulations. As an extension of Hamiltonian dynamics to stochastic dissipative systems, the SHF provides necessary foundations and great convenience for constructing efficient numerical integrators. As a first attempt, we develop the Störmer--Verlet type of schemes based on the SHF, which are structure-preserving for deterministic Hamiltonian systems without external forces, the dissipative forces in DPD. Long-time behaviour of the schemes is shown numerically by studying th…
In this paper we study the following stochastic Hamiltonian system in ${\mathbb R}^{2d}$ (a second order stochastic differential equation), $$ d \dot X_t=b(X_t,\dot X_t)d t+σ(X_t,\dot X_t)d W_t,\ \ (X_0,\dot X_0)=(x,v)\in{\mathbb R}^{2d}, $$ where $b(x,v):{\mathbb R}^{2d}\to{\mathbb R}^d$ and $σ(x,v):{\mathbb R}^{2d}\to{\mathbb R}^d\otimes{\mathbb R}^d$ are two Borel measurable functions. We show that if $σ$ is bounded and uniformly non-degenerate, and $b\in H^{2/3,0}_p$ and $\nablaσ\in L^p$ for some $p>2(2d+1)$, where $H^{α,β}_p$ is the Bessel potential space with differentiability indices $α…
We study the Wasserstein Hamiltonian flow with a common noise on the density manifold of a finite graph. Under the framework of stochastic variational principle, we first develop the formulation of stochastic Wasserstein Hamiltonian flow and show the local existence of a unique solution. We also establish a sufficient condition for the global existence of the solution. Consequently, we obtain the global well-posedness for the nonlinear Schrödinger equations with common noise on graph. In addition, using Wong-Zakai approximation of common noise, we prove the existence of the minimizer for an op…
