Explicit sufficient conditions on the hypercontractivity are presented for two classes of functional stochastic partial differential equations driven by, respectively, non-degenerate and degenerate Gaussian noises. Consequently, these conditions imply that the associated Markov semigroup is $L^2$-compact and exponentially convergent to the stationary distribution in entropy, variance and total variational norm.
As the log-Sobolev inequality is invalid under the framework, we apply a criterion presented in the recent paper \cite{Wang14} using Harnack inequality, coupling property and Gaussian concentration property of the stationary distribution. To verify the concentration property, we prove a Fernique type inequality for infinite-dimensional Gaussian processes which might be interesting by itself.
In this paper, we discuss hypercontractivity for the Markov semigroup $P_t$ which is generated by segment processes associated with a range of functional SDEs of neutral type. As applications, we also reveal that the semigroup $P_t$ converges exponentially to its unique invariant probability measure $μ$ in entropy, $L^2 (μ)$ and $\|\cdot\|_{\mbox{var}}$, respectively.
An explicit sufficient condition on the hypercontractivity is derived for the Markov semigroup associated to a class of functional stochastic differential equations. Consequently, the semigroup $P_t$ converges exponentially to its unique invariant probability measure $μ$ in entropy, $L^2(μ)$ and the totally variational norm, and it is compact in $L^2(μ)$ for large $t>0$. This provides a natural class of non-symmetric Markov semigroups which are compact for large time but non-compact for small time. A semi-linear model which may not satisfy this sufficient condition is also investigated.
This paper concerns a variational representation formula for Wiener functionals. Let $B=\{ B_{t}\} _{t\ge 0}$ be a standard $d$-dimensional Brownian motion. Boué and Dupuis (1998) showed that, for any bounded measurable functional $F(B)$ of $B$ up to time $1$, the expectation $\mathbb{E}\!\left[ e^{F(B)}\right] $ admits a variational representation in terms of drifted Brownian motions. In this paper, with a slight modification of insightful reasoning by Lehec (2013) allowing also $F(B)$ to be a functional of $B$ over the whole time interval, we prove that the Boué--Dupuis formula holds true pr…
We investigate in a systematic way hypercontractivity property in Orlicz spaces for Markov semi-groups related to homogeneous and non homogeneous diffusions in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$. We provide an explicit construction of a family of Orlicz functions for which we prove that the associated hypercontractivity property is equivalent to a suitable functional inequality.
We consider the problem of estimating small ball probabilities $\mathbb P\{f(G) \leqslant δ\mathbb Ef(G)\}$ for sub-additive,positively homogeneous functions $f$ with respect to the Gaussian measure. We establish estimates that depend on global parameters of the underlying function which take into account analytic and statistical measures, such as the variance and the $L^1$-norms of its partial derivatives. This leads to dimension-dependent bounds for small ball and lower small deviation estimates for seminorms when the linear structure is appropriately chosen to optimize the aforementioned pa…
According to the theory of functional inequalities, a non-symmetric Markov semigroup has better properties than the corresponding symmetric one. For instance, there exist non-symmetric Markov semigroups which are hypercontractive (and thus converge exponentially in both $L^2$ and entropy), but the symmetric ones are even not ergodic. In this paper, we aim to search for reasonable conditions to ensure that a non-symmetric Markov semigroup and its symmetrization share the properties of exponential convergence, uniform integrability, hypercontractivity, and supercontractivity. Since in the symmet…
Space-time regularity of linear stochastic partial differential equations is studied. The solution is defined in the mild sense in the state space $L^p$. The corresponding regularity is obtained by showing that the stochastic convolution integrals are Hölder continuous in a suitable function space. In particular cases, this allows to show space-time Hölder continuity of the solution. The main tool used is a hypercontractivity result on Banach-space valued random variables in a finite Wiener chaos.
This work is devoted to deriving the Onsager-Machlup action functional for stochastic partial differential equations with (non-Gaussian) Levy process as well as Gaussian Brownian motion. This is achieved by applying the Girsanov transformation for probability measures and then by a path representation. This enables the investigation of the most probable transition path for infinite dimensional stochastic dynamical systems modeled by stochastic partial differential equations, by minimizing the Onsager-Machlup action functional.
For moving average processes with random coefficients and heavy-tailed innovations that are weakly dependent in the sense of strong mixing and local dependence condition $D'$ we study joint functional convergence of partial sums and maxima. Under the assumption that all partial sums of the series of coefficients are a.s. bounded between zero and the sum of the series we derive a functional limit theorem in the space of $\mathbb{R}^{2}$-valued càdlàg functions on $[0, 1]$ with the Skorokhod weak $M_{2}$ topology.
We derive a functional central limit theorem (fclt) for normalised sums of a function of the partial sums of independent and identically distributed random variables. In particular, we show, using a technique presented in Huang and Zhang (Electron. Comm. Probab. 12 (2007), 51--56), that the result from Qi (Statist. Probab. Lett. 62 (2003), 93--100), for normalised products of partial sums, can be generalised in this fashion to a fclt.
Recently, for the joint partial sum and partial maxima processes constructed from linear processes with independent identically distributed innovations that are regularly varying with tail index $α\in (0, 2)$, a functional limit theorem with the Skorohod weak $M_{2}$ topology has been obtained. In this paper we show that, if all the coefficients of the linear processes are of the same sign, the functional convergence holds in the stronger topology, i.e. in the Skorohod weak $M_{1}$ topology on the space of $\mathbb{R}^{2}$--valued càdlàg functions on $[0, 1]$.
In this article, we develop a new approach to functional quantization, which consists in discretizing only a finite subset of the Karhunen-Loève coordinates of a continuous Gaussian semimartingale $X$. Using filtration enlargement techniques, we prove that the conditional distribution of $X$ knowing its first Karhunen-Loève coordinates is a Gaussian semimartingale with respect to a bigger filtration. This allows us to define the partial quantization of a solution of a stochastic differential equation with respect to $X$ by simply plugging the partial functional quantization of $X$ in the SDE. …
For linear processes with independent identically distributed innovations that are regularly varying with tail index $α\in (0, 2)$, we study functional convergence of the joint partial sum and partial maxima processes. We derive a functional limit theorem under certain assumptions on the coefficients of the linear processes which enable the functional convergence to hold in the space of $\mathbb{R}^{2}$--valued càdlàg functions on $[0, 1]$ with the Skorohod weak $M_{2}$ topology. Also a joint convergence in the $M_{2}$ topology on the first coordinate and in the $M_{1}$ topology on the second …
In this paper we show a functional central limit theorem for the sum of the first $\lfloor t n \rfloor$ diagonal elements of $f(Z)$ as a function in $t$, for $Z$ a random real symmetric or complex Hermitian $n\times n$ matrix. The result holds for orthogonal or unitarily invariant distributions of $Z$, in the cases when the linear eigenvalue statistic $\operatorname{tr} f(Z)$ satisfies a CLT. The limit process interpolates between the fluctuations of individual matrix elements as $f(Z)_{1,1}$ and of the linear eigenvalue statistic. It can also be seen as a functional CLT for processes of rando…
For a strictly stationary sequence of nonnegative regularly varying random variables $(X_{n})$ we study functional weak convergence of partial maxima processes $M_{n}(t) = \bigvee_{i=1}^{\lfloor nt \rfloor}X_{i},\,t \in [0,1]$ in the space $D[0,1]$ with the Skorohod $J_{1}$ topology. Under the strong mixing condition, we give sufficient conditions for such convergence when clustering of large values do not occur. We apply this result to stochastic volatility processes. Further we give conditions under which the regular variation property is a necessary condition for $J_{1}$ and $M_{1}$ functio…
For the partial sums $(S_n)$ of independent random variables we define a stochastic process $s_n(t):=(1/d_n)\sum_{k \le [nt]} ({S_k}/{k}-μ)$ and prove that $$(1/{\log N})\sum_{n\le N}(1/n)\mathbf {I}\left\{s_n(t)\le x\right\} \to G_t(x)\quad \text{a.s.}$$ if and only if $(1/{\log N})\sum_{n\le N} (1/n)\mathbb{P}\left(s_n(t)\le x\right) \to G_t(x)$, for some sequence $(d_n)$ and distribution $G_t$. We also prove an almost sure functional limit theorem for the product of partial sums of i.i.d. positive random variables attracted to an $α$-stable law with $α\in (1,2]$.
In this paper, we investigate the functional central limit theorem for stochastic processes associated to partial sums of additive functionals of reversible Markov chains with general spate space, under the normalization standard deviation of partial sums. For this case, we show that the functional central limit theorem is equivalent to the fact that the variance of partial sums is regularly varying with exponent 1 and the partial sums satisfy the CLT. It is also equivalent to the conditional CLT.
We study functional convergence of sums of moving averages with random coefficients and heavy-tailed innovations. Under some standard moment conditions and the assumption that all partial sums of the series of coefficients are a.s. bounded between zero and the sum of the series we obtain functional convergence of the corresponding partial sum stochastic process in the space $D[0,1]$ of càdlàg functions with the Skorohod $M_{2}$ topology.
In this paper we obtain Berry-Esseén bounds on partial sums of functionals of heavy-tailed moving averages, including the linear fractional stable noise, stable fractional ARIMA processes and stable Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes. Our rates are obtained for the Wasserstein and Kolmogorov distances, and depend strongly on the interplay between the memory of the process, which is controlled by a parameter $α$, and its tail-index, which is controlled by a parameter $β$. In fact, we obtain the classical $\sqrt{1/ n}$ rate of convergence when the tails are not too heavy and the memory is not too stro…
The weak averaging principle of stochastic functional partial differential equations with H$\ddot{\text{o}}$lder continuous coefficients and infinite delay
A class of functional differential equations are investigated. Using the Girsanov-transformation argument we establish the quadratic transportation cost inequalities for a class of finite-dimensional neutral functional stochastic differential equations and infinite-dimensional neutral functional stochastic partial differential equations under different metrics.
In this article, we study the ergodicity of neutral retarded stochastic functional differential equations driven by $α$-regular Volterra process. Based on the equivalence between neutral retarded stochastic functional differential equations and the stochastic evolution equation, we get the ergodicity of neutral retarded stochastic functional differential equations.
Let $(X_i,i\geq 1)$ be a sequence of i.i.d. random variables with values in $[0,1]$, and $f$ be a function such that $`E(f(X_1)^2)<+\infty$. We show a functional central limit theorem for the process $t\mapsto \sum_{i=1}^n f(X_i)1_{X_i\leq t}$.
In this article we study a class of stochastic functional differential equations driven by Lévy processes (in particular, $α$-stable processes), and obtain the existence and uniqueness of Markov solutions in small time intervals. This corresponds to the local solvability to a class of quasi-linear partial integro-differential equations. Moreover, in the constant diffusion coefficient case, without any assumptions on the Lévy generator, we also show the existence of a unique maximal weak solution for a class of semi-linear partial integro-differential equation systems under bounded Lipschitz as…
Previously, we have introduced a very small number of examples of what we call Ouroboros functions. Using our already established theory of Ouroboros spaces and their functions, we will provide a set of families of Ouroboros functions that bolster our overall understanding of the Ouroboros spaces. From here, we extend the theory of Ouroboros functions by introducing Ouroboros functionals and Ouroboros functional spaces. Furthermore, we re-frame the expected value of a random variable as an Ouroboros functional, which proves to be more intuitive in view of probabilistic measure theory. We then …
We investigate the convexity problem for the Parisi functional defined on the space of the so-called functional ordered parameters in the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model. In the recent work of Panchenko [3], he proved that this functional is convex along one-sided directions with a probabilistic method. In this paper, we will study this problem with a PDE approach that simplifies his original proof and presents more general results.
We define and examine certain matrix-valued multiplicative functionals with local Kato potential terms and use probabilistic techniques to prove that the semigroups of the corresponding partial differential operators with matrix-valued coefficients are spatially continuous and have a jointly continuous integral kernel. These partial differential operators include Yang-Mills type Hamiltonians and Pauli type Hamiltonians, with "electrical" potentials that are elements of the matrix-valued local Kato class.
Let $v:[0,T]\times \R^d \to \R$ be the solution of the parabolic backward equation $ \partial_t v + (1/2) \sum_{i,l} [σσ^\perp]_{il} \partial_{x_i \partial_{x_l} v + \sum_{i} b_i \partial_{x_i}v + kv =0$ with terminal condition $g$, where the coefficients are time- and state-dependent, and satisfy certain regularity assumptions. Let $X=(X_t)_{t\in [0,T]}$ be the associated $\R^d$-valued diffusion process on some appropriate $(Ω,\cF,\Q)$. For $p\in [2,\infty)$ and a measure $d¶=λ_T d\Q$, where $λ_T$ satisfies the Muckenhoupt condition $A_α$ for $α\in (1,p)$, we relate the behavior of $\|g(X_T)-…
In this paper we study the functional central limit theorem for stationary Markov chains with self-adjoint operator and general state space. We investigate the case when the variance of the partial sum is not asymptotically linear in n; and establish that conditional convergence in distribution of partial sums implies functional CLT. The main tools are maximal inequalities that are further exploited to derive conditions for tightness and convergence to the Brownian motion.
