In this paper, we study rational sections of the relative Picard variety of a linear system on a smooth projective variety. Specifically, we prove that if the linear system is basepoint-free and the locus of non-integral divisors has codimension at least two, then all rational sections of the relative Picard variety come from restrictions of line bundles on the variety.
A family of K3 surfaces $\mathscr{X}\rightarrow B$ has the \emph{Franchetta property} if the Chow group of 0-cycles on the generic fiber is cyclic. The generalized Franchetta conjecture proposed by O'Grady asserts that the universal family $\mathscr{X}_g\rightarrow \mathscr{F}_g$ of polarized K3 of degree $2g-2$ has the Franchetta property. While this is known only for small $g$ thanks to \cite{PSY}, we prove that for all $g$ there is a hypersurface in $ \mathscr{F}_g$ such that the corresponding family has the Franchetta property.
We compute the Picard group of the universal abelian variety over the moduli stack $\mathscr A_{g,n}$ of principally polarized abelian varieties over $\mathbb{C}$ with a symplectic principal level $n$-structure. We then prove that over $\mathbb{C}$ the statement of the Franchetta conjecture holds in a suitable form for $\mathscr A_{g,n}$.
O'Grady conjectured that the Chow group of 0-cycles of the generic fiber of the universal family over the moduli space of polarized K3 surfaces of genus g is cyclic. This so-called generalized Franchetta conjecture has been solved only for low genera where there is a Mukai model (precisely, when g<11 and g=12, 13, 16, 18, 20), by the work of Pavic--Shen--Yin. In this paper, as a non-commutative analog, we study the Franchetta property for families of special cubic fourfolds (in the sense of Hassett) and relate it to O'Grady's conjecture for K3 surfaces. Most notably, by using special cubic fou…
We prove the generalized Franchetta conjecture for the locally complete family of hyper-Kähler eightfolds constructed by Lehn-Lehn-Sorger-van Straten (LLSS). As a corollary, we establish the Beauville-Voisin conjecture for very general LLSS eightfolds. The strategy consists in reducing to the Franchetta property for relative fourth powers of cubic fourfolds, by using the recent description of LLSS eightfolds as moduli spaces of semistable objects in the Kuznetsov component of the derived category of cubic fourfolds, together with its generalization to the relative setting due to Bayer-Lahoz-Ma…
The generalized Franchetta conjecture for hyper-Kähler varieties predicts that an algebraic cycle on the universal family of certain polarized hyper-Kähler varieties is fiberwise rationally equivalent to zero if and only if it vanishes in cohomology fiberwise. We establish Franchetta-type results for certain low (Hilbert) powers of low degree K3 surfaces, for the Beauville--Donagi family of Fano varieties of lines on cubic fourfolds and its relative square, and for $0$-cycles and codimension-$2$ cycles for the Lehn--Lehn--Sorger--van Straten family of hyper-Kähler eightfolds. We also draw many…
We study relative zero cycles on the universal polarized $K3$ surface $X \to \mathcal{F}_g$ of degree $2g - 2$. It was asked by O'Grady if the restriction of any class in $\mathrm{CH}^2(X)$ to a closed fiber $X_s$ is a multiple of the Beauville-Voisin canonical class $c_{X_s} \in \mathrm{CH}_0(X_s)$. Using Mukai models, we give an affirmative answer to this question for $g \leq 10$ and $g = 12, 13, 16, 18, 20$.
This paper contains a partial result on the Pierce--Birkhoff conjecture on piece-wise polynomial functions defined by a finite collection {f 1,. .., f r} of polynomials. In the nineteen eighties, generalizing the problem from the polynomial ring to an artibtrary ring $Σ$, J. Madden proved that the Pierce--Birkhoff conjecture for $Σ$ is equivalent to a statement about an arbitrary pair of points $α$, $β$ $\in$ Sper $Σ$ and their separating ideal < $α$, $β$ >, we refer to this statement as the local Pierce-Birkhoff conjecture at $α$, $β$. In [8] we introduced a slightly stronger conjecture, also…
We give a new proof of the Mordell-Lang conjecture in positive characteristic, in the situation where the variety under scrutiny is a smooth subvariety of an abelian variety. Our proof is based on the theory of semistable sheaves in positive characteristic, in particular on Langer's theorem that the Harder-Narasimhan filtration of sheaves becomes strongly semistable after a finite number of iterations of Frobenius pull-backs. The interest of this proof is that it provides simple effective bounds (depending on the degree of the canonical line bundle) for the degree of the isotrivial finite cove…
We develop new methods to study tropicalizations of linear series and show linear independence of sections. Using these methods, we prove two new cases of the strong maximal rank conjecture for linear series of degree 25 and 26 on curves of genus 22 and 23, respectively.
Grothendieck's standard conjecture of Lefschetz type has two main forms: the weak form $C$ and the strong form $B$. The weak form is known for varieties over finite fields as a consequence of the proof of the Weil conjectures. This suggests that the strong form of the conjecture in the same setting may be the most accessible of the standard conjectures. Here, as an advertisement for the conjecture, we explain some of its remarkable consequences.
We show that a strong vanishing conjecture for $n$-fold Massey products holds for fields of virtual cohomological dimension at most $1$ using a theorem of Haran. We also prove the same for PpC fields, using results of Haran--Jarden. Finally we construct a pro-$2$ group which satisfies the weak Massey vanishing property for every $n\geq3$, but does not satisfy the strong Massey vanishing property for $n=4$.
In this article, we establish a sharp effectiveness result of Demailly's strong openness conjecture. We also establish a sharp effectiveness result related to a conjecture posed by Demailly and Kollár.
In the present article, we obtain an estimation of the weighted $L^2$ norm near the singularities of plurisubharmonic weight related to Demailly's strong openness conjecture, which implies the convergence of the weighted $L^2$ norm.
In this paper, we compute the cohomology class of certain "special maximal-rank loci" originally defined by Aprodu and Farkas. By showing that such classes are nonzero, we are able to verify the non-emptiness portion of the Strong Maximal Rank Conjecture in a wide range of cases. As an application, we obtain new evidence for the existence portion of a well-known conjecture due to Bertram, Feinberg and independently Mukai in higher-rank Brill--Noether theory.
We give a slope equality for fibered surfaces whose general fiber is a smooth plane curve. As a corollary, we prove a "strong" Durfee-type inequality for isolated hypersurface surface singularities, which implies Durfee's strong conjecture for such singularities with non-negative topological Euler number of the exceptional set of the minimal resolution.

In this note, we reveal that our solution of Demailly's strong openness conjecture implies a matrix version of the conjecture; our solutions of two conjectures of Demailly-Kollár and Jonsson-Mustată implies the truth of twisted versions of the strong openness conjecture; our optimal $L^{2}$ extension implies Berndtsson's positivity of vector bundles associated to holomorphic fibrations over a unit disc.
