We establish a theory of complexes of relative correspondences. The theory generalizes the known theory of complexes of correspondences of smooth projective varieties. It will be applied in the sequel of this paper to the construction of the triangulated category of motives over a base variety.
We prove a result comparing the rationality of some elementary algebraic cycles introduced by Alexander Vishik, defined on orthogonal grassmannians, with the rationality of some algebraic cycles defined on fiber products of the corresponding quadric.
The incidence correspondence in the grassmannian which determines the tautological bundle defines a map between cycle spaces on grassmannians. These cycle spaces decompose canonically into a product of Eilenberg-MacLane spaces. These decompositions and the associated maps are calculated up to homotopy.
We study relative $K_0$ of exact categories and triangulated categories. As an application, we construct a cycle class map from Chow groups with modulus to relative $K_0$.
In the paper we show that for a normal-crossings degeneration $Z$ over the ring of integers of a local field with $X$ as generic fibre, the local monodromy operator and its powers determine invariant cocycle classes under the decomposition group in the cohomology of the product $X \times X$. More precisely, they also define algebraic cycles on the special fibre of a resolution of $Z \times Z$. In the paper, we give an explicit description of these cycles for a degeneration with at worst triple points as singularities. These cycles explain geometrically the presence of poles on specific local f…
We prove that, given a symmetrically distinguished correspondence of a suitable complex abelian variety (which include any abelian variety of dimension atmost 5, powers of complex elliptic curves, etc.) which vanishes as a morphism on a certain quotient of its middle singular cohomology, then it vanishes as a morphism on the deepest part of a particular filtration on the Chow group of 0-cycles of the abelian variety. As a consequence, we prove that given an automorphism of such an abelian variety, which acts as the identity on a certain quotient of its middle singular cohomology, then it acts …
Let $\bar{X}$ be a smooth quasi-projective $d$-dimensional variety over a field $k$ and let $D$ be an effective Cartier divisor on it. In this note, we construct cycle class maps from (a variant of) the higher Chow group with modulus of the pair $(\bar{X},D)$ in the range $(d+n, n)$ to the relative $K$-groups $K_n(\bar{X}, D)$ for every $n\geq 0$.
We prove a moving lemma for the additive and ordinary higher Chow groups of relative $0$-cycles of regular semi-local $k$-schemes essentially of finite type over an infinite perfect field. From this, we show that the cycle classes can be represented by cycles that possess certain finiteness, surjectivity, and smoothness properties. It plays a key role in showing that the crystalline cohomology of smooth varieties can be expressed in terms of algebraic cycles.
We construct (cohomological) correspondences between mod $p$ fibers of different Shimura varieties and describe the fibers of these correspondences by studying irreducible components of affine Deligne-Lusztig varieties. In particular, in the case of correspondences from a Shimura set to a Shimura variety, we obtain a description of the basic Newton stratum of the latter, and show that the irreducible components of the basic Newton stratum generate all the Tate classes in the middle cohomology of the Shimura variety, under a certain genericity condition. Along the way, we also determine the set…
We establish a correspondence between the disk invariants of a smooth toric Calabi-Yau 3-fold $X$ with boundary condition specified by a framed Aganagic-Vafa outer brane $(L, f)$ and the genus-zero closed Gromov-Witten invariants of a smooth toric Calabi-Yau 4-fold $\widetilde{X}$, proving the open/closed correspondence proposed by Mayr and developed by Lerche-Mayr. Our correspondence is the composition of two intermediate steps: $\circ$ First, a correspondence between the disk invariants of $(X,L,f)$ and the genus-zero maximally-tangent relative Gromov-Witten invariants of a relative Calabi-Y…
We show a version of the DT/PT correspondence relating local curve counting invariants, encoding the contribution of a fixed smooth curve in a Calabi-Yau threefold. We exploit a local study of the Hilbert-Chow morphism about the cycle of a smooth curve. We determine, via Quot schemes, the global Donaldson-Thomas theory of a general Abel-Jacobi curve of genus $3$.
We explain and generalize a recent result of Reineke-Weist by showing how to reduce it to the Gromov-Witten/Kronecker correspondence by a degeneration and blow-up. We also refine the result by working with all genera on the Gromov-Witten side and with refined Donaldson-Thomas invariants on the quiver side.
We prove that, on a Riemann surface, the functor $\mathrm{RH}^S$ constructed in a previous work as a right quasi-inverse of the solution functor from the bounded derived category of regular relative holonomic modules to that of relative constructible complexes satisfies the left quasi-inverse property in a generic sense.
We use the Litvinov-Maslov correspondence principle to reduce and hybridize networks of biochemical reactions. We apply this method to a cell cycle oscillator model. The reduced and hybridized model can be used as a hybrid model for the cell cycle. We also propose a practical recipe for detecting quasi-equilibrium QE reactions and quasi-steady state QSS species in biochemical models with rational rate functions and use this recipe for model reduction. Interestingly, the QE/QSS invariant manifold of the smooth model and the reduced dynamics along this manifold can be put into correspondence to …
We construct a cycle class map from the higher Chow groups of 0-cycles to the relative $K$-theory of a modulus pair. We show that this induces a pro-isomorphism between the additive higher Chow groups of relative 0-cycles and relative $K$-theory of truncated polynomial rings over a regular semi-local ring, essentially of finite type over a characteristic zero field.
Let G be a unitary group over a totally real field, and X a Shimura variety for G. For certain primes p of good reduction for X, we construct cycles on the characteristic p fiber of X. These cycles are defined as the loci on which the Verschiebung map has small rank on particular pieces of the Lie algebra of the universal abelian variety on X. The geometry of these cycles turns out to be closely related to Shimura varieties for a different unitary group G', which is isomorphic to G at finite places but not isomorphic to G at archimedean places. More precisely, each such cycle has a natural des…
Let $R$ be a regular semi-local ring, essentially of finite type over an infinite perfect field of characteristic $p \ge 3$. We show that the cycle class map with modulus from an earlier work of the authors induces a pro-isomorphism between the additive higher Chow groups of relative 0-cycles and the relative $K$-theory of truncated polynomial rings over $R$. This settles the problem of equating 0-cycles with modulus and relative $K$-theory of such rings via the cycle class map.
Deligne and Kato proved a formula computing the dimension of the nearby cycles complex of an l-adic sheaf on a relative curve over an excellent strictly henselian trait. In this article, we reprove this formula using Abbes-Saito's ramification theory.
We introduce marked relative Pandharipande-Thomas (PT) invariants for a pair $(X,D)$ of a smooth projective threefold and a smooth divisor. These invariants are defined by integration over the moduli space of $r$-marked stable pairs on $(X,D)$, and appear naturally when degenerating diagonal insertions via the Li-Wu degeneration formula. We propose a Gromov-Witten (GW) / PT correspondence for marked relative invariants. We show compatibility of the conjecture with the degeneration formula and a splitting formula for relative diagonals. The results provide new tools to prove GW/PT correspondenc…
In this paper, we investigate the local Euler obstruction and the relative local Euler obstruction in terms of constructible complexes of sheaves, characteristic cycles, and vanishing cycles. The fundamental tool that we use is the notion of a characteristic complex for an analytic space embedded in affine space.
We extend the definition of relative Gromov--Witten invariants with negative contact orders to all genera. Then we show that relative Gromov--Witten theory forms a partial CohFT. Some cycle relations on the moduli space of stable maps are also proved.
We study homological mirror symmetry for Del Pezzo surfaces and their mirror Landau-Ginzburg models. In particular, we show that the derived category of coherent sheaves on a Del Pezzo surface X_k obtained by blowing up CP^2 at k points is equivalent to the derived category of vanishing cycles of a certain elliptic fibration W_k:M_k\to\C with k+3 singular fibers, equipped with a suitable symplectic form. Moreover, we also show that this mirror correspondence between derived categories can be extended to noncommutative deformations of X_k, and give an explicit correspondence between the deforma…
We present a relation between the classical Chow group of relative $0$-cycles on a regular scheme $\mathcal{X}$, projective and flat over an excellent Henselian discrete valuation ring, and the Levine-Weibel Chow group of 0-cycles on the special fiber. We show that these two Chow groups are isomorphic with finite coefficients under extra assumptions. This generalizes a result of Esnault, Kerz and Wittenberg.
We study the restriction map to the closed fiber of a regular projective scheme over an excellent henselian discrete valuation ring, for a cohomological version of the Chow group of relative zero-cycles. Our main result extends the work of Saito--Sato to general perfect residue fields.
In this paper we establish Springer correspondence for the symmetric pair $(\mathrm{SL}(N),\mathrm{SO}(N))$ using Fourier transform, parabolic induction functor, and a nearby cycle sheaves construction due to Grinberg. As applications, we obtain results on cohomology of Hessenberg varieties and geometric constructions of irreducible representations of Hecke algebras of symmetric groups at $q=-1$.
Given two smooth projective varieties X and Y over a field, we say that X motivates Y if the (suitably defined) motive of Y is contained in the category generated from X by taking sums, summands and products. This notion has appeared implicitly in many places, but it seems useful to make it explicit. Some techniques are given for checking this condition, but in a nutshell it involves building a correspondence which "dominates" Y. Among the more interesting examples dealt with are moduli spaces. We show that in number of cases moduli spaces of sheaves over curves or surfaces are motivated by un…
We give a new geometrical interpretation of the local analytic solutions to a differential system, which we call a tautological system $τ$, arising from the universal family of Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces $Y_a$ in a $G$-variety $X$ of dimension $n$. First, we construct a natural topological correspondence between relative cycles in $H_n(X-Y_a,\cup D-Y_a)$ bounded by the union of $G$-invariant divisors $\cup D$ in $X$ to the solution sheaf of $τ$, in the form of chain integrals. Applying this to a toric variety with torus action, we show that in addition to the period integrals over cycles in $Y_a…
We study the relative Hilbert scheme of a family of nodal (or smooth) curves via its (birational) cycle map, going to the relative symmetric product. We show the cycle map is the blowing up of the discriminant locus, which consists of cycles with multiple points. We derive an intersection calculus for Chern classes of tautological bundles on the relative Hilbert scheme, which has applications to enumerative geometry.
On the product of a complex manifold $X$ by a complex curve $S$ considered as a parameter space, we show a Riemann-Hilbert correspondence between regular holonomic relative $\mathcal D$-modules (resp. complexes) on the one hand and relative perverse complexes (resp. $S$-$\mathbb{C}$-constructible complexes) on the other hand.
Recently, the singular support and the characteristic cycle of an étale sheaf on a smooth variety over a perfect field are constructed by Beilinson and Saito, respectively. In this article, we extend the singular support to a relative situation. As an application, we prove the generic constancy for singular supports and characteristic cycles of étale sheaves on a smooth fibration. Meanwhile, we show the failure of the lower semi-continuity of characteristic cycles in a higher relative dimension case, which is different from Deligne and Laumon's result in the relative curve case.
We introduce the notion of strong regular holonomic ${\mathcal{D}}_{{X\times S}/S}$-module and we prove that the functor ${\mathrm{RH}}^S$ introduced by T. Monteiro Fernandes and C. Sabbah in [14] takes image in ${\mathsf{D}}^{\mathrm{b}}_{\mathrm{srhol}}({\mathcal{D}}_{{X\times S}/S})$ (complexes of ${\mathcal{D}}_{{X\times S}/S}$-module whose cohomologies are strongly regular). We prove that for $\dim X=\dim S=1$ the functor solution functor ${}^\mathrm{p}{\mathrm{Sol}}$ restricted to ${\mathsf{D}}^{\mathrm{b}}_{\mathrm{srhol}}({\mathcal{D}}_{{X\times S}/S})$ is an equivalence of categories …
For a given base scheme, a correspondence is established between a class of sheaves on curves over this base scheme and certain points of infinite Grassmannians. This equivalence extends to a characterization of commutative algebras of ordinary differential operators with coefficients in the ring of formal power series over a given $k$-algebra. Our construction generalizes the approach of M.Mulase, which gives the above connection in the case that the base scheme is one closed point.
I construct a correspondence between the Schubert cycles on the variety of complete flags in C^n and some faces of the Gelfand-Zetlin polytope associated with the irreducible representation of SL_n(C) with a strictly dominant highest weight. The construction is based on a geometric presentation of Schubert cells by Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand using Demazure modules. The correspondence between the Schubert cycles and faces is then used to interpret the classical Chevalley formula in Schubert calculus in terms of the Gelfand-Zetlin polytopes. The whole picture resembles the picture for toric varie…
A principal pair consists of a holomorphic principal $G$-bundle together with a holomorphic section of an associated Kaehler fibration. Such objects support natural gauge theoretic equations coming from a moment map condition, and also admit a notion of stability based on Geometric Invariant Theory. The Hitchin--Kobayashi correspondence for principal pairs identifies stability as the condition for the existence of solutions to the equations. In this paper we generalize these features in a way which allows the full gauge group of the principal bundle to be replaced by certain proper subgroups. …
We consider correspondences on smooth quasiprojective varieties $U$. An algebraic cycle inducing the Künneth projector onto $H^1(U)$ is constructed. Assuming normal crossings at infinity, the existence of relative motivic cohomology is shown to imply the independence of $\ell$ for traces of open correspondences.
Let X be a separated scheme of finite type over a field k and D a non-reduced effective Cartier divisor on it. We attach to the pair (X, D) a cycle complex with modulus, whose homotopy groups - called higher Chow groups with modulus - generalize additive higher Chow groups of Bloch-Esnault, Rülling, Park and Krishna-Levine, and that sheafified on $X_{Zar}$ gives a candidate definition for a relative motivic complex of the pair, that we compute in weight 1. When X is smooth over k and D is such that $D_{red}$ is a normal crossing divisor, we construct a fundamental class in the cohomology of re…
We introduce the notion of regularity for a relative holonomic $\mathcal D$-module in the sense of arXiv:1204.1331. We prove that the solution functor from the bounded derived category of regular relative holonomic modules to that of relative constructible complexes is essentially surjective by constructing a right quasi-inverse functor. When restricted to relative $\mathcal D$-modules underlying a regular mixed twistor $\mathcal D$-module, this functor satisfies the left quasi-inverse property.
We study the structure of the relative Hilbert scheme for a family of nodal (or smooth) curves via its natural cycle map to the relative symmetric product. We show that the cycle map is the blowing up of the discriminant locus, which consists of cycles with multiple points. We discuss some applications and connections, notably with birational geometry and intersection theory on Hilbert schemes of smooth surfaces. Revised version corrects some minor errors.
In this paper we construct and study the actions of certain deformations of the Lie algebra of Hamiltonians on the plane on the Chow groups (resp., cohomology) of the relative symmetric powers ${\cal C}^{[\bullet]}$ and the relative Jacobian ${\cal J}$ of a family of curves ${\cal C}/S$. As one of the applications, we show that in the case of a single curve $C$ this action induces a integral form of a Lefschetz $\operatorname{sl}_2$-action on the Chow groups of $C^{[N]}$. Another application gives a new grading on the ring of 0-cycles on the Jacobian $J$ of $C$ (with respect to the Pontryagin …
Let $K$ be an algebraically closed field of arbitrary characteristic, $X$ an irreducible variety and $Y$ an irreducible projective variety over $K$, both are not necessarily smooth. Let $f:X\rightarrow X$ and $g:Y\rightarrow Y$ be dominant correspondences, and $π:X\rightarrow Y$ a dominant rational map such that $π\circ f=g\circ π$. We define relative dynamical degrees $λ_p(f|π)$ ($p=0,\ldots ,\dim (X)-\dim (Y)$). These degrees measure the relative growth of positive algebraic cycles, satisfy a product formula when $Y$ is smooth and $g$ is a multiple of a rational map, and are birational invar…
In this article, we develop an arithmetic analogue of Fourier--Jacobi period integrals for a pair of unitary groups of equal rank. We construct the so-called Fourier--Jacobi cycles, which are algebraic cycles on the product of unitary Shimura varieties and abelian varieties. We propose the arithmetic Gan--Gross--Prasad conjecture for these cycles, which is related to central derivatives of certain Rankin--Selberg $L$-functions, and develop a relative trace formula approach toward this conjecture. As a necessary ingredient, we propose the conjecture of the corresponding arithmetic fundamental l…
Deligne's celebrated "Riemann--Hilbert correspondence" relates representations of the fundamental group of a smooth complex algebraic variety and regular-singular integrable connections. In this work, we show how to arrive at a similar statement in the case of a smooth scheme $X$ over the spectrum of a ring $R=\mathbb C[[t_1,\ldots, t_r]]/I$. On one side of the correspondence we have representations on $R$-modules of the fundamental group of the special fibre, and on the other we have certain integrable $R$-connections admitting logarithmic models. The correspondence is then applied to give ex…
We strengthen the local-global compatibility of Langlands correspondences for $GL_{n}$ in the case when $n$ is even and $l\not=p$. Let $L$ be a CM field and $Π$ be a cuspidal automorphic representation of $GL_{n}(\mathbb{A}_{L})$ which is conjugate self-dual. Assume that $Π_{\infty}$ is cohomological and not "slightly regular", as defined by Shin. In this case, Chenevier and Harris constructed an $l$-adic Galois representation $R_{l}(Π)$ and proved the local-global compatibility up to semisimplification at primes $v$ not dividing $l$. We extend this compatibility by showing that the Frobenius …
After the work of Bloch and Srinivas on correspondences and algebraic cycles we begin the study of a birational class of algebraic varieties determined by the property that a multiple of the diagonal is rationally equivalent to a cycle supported on proper subschemes.
