We prove a moving lemma for the additive and ordinary higher Chow groups of relative $0$-cycles of regular semi-local $k$-schemes essentially of finite type over an infinite perfect field. From this, we show that the cycle classes can be represented by cycles that possess certain finiteness, surjectivity, and smoothness properties. It plays a key role in showing that the crystalline cohomology of smooth varieties can be expressed in terms of algebraic cycles.
We prove moving lemma for additive higher Chow groups of smooth projective varieties. As applications, we prove the very general contravariance property of additive higher Chow groups. Using the moving lemma, we establish the structure of graded-commutative differential graded algebra (CDGA) on these groups.
We prove a moving lemma which implies the contravariance of Bloch-Esnault's additive higher Chow group in smooth affine varieties and Binda-Saito's higher Chow group (taken in the Nisnevich topology) in smooth varieties equipped with effective Cartier divisors. The new ingredients in the moving method are parallel translation {\em with modulus} in the affine space that involves a new integer parameter, and Noether's normalization lemma over a Dedekind base.
We consider the "homotopy coniveau tower" for an arbitrary cohomology theory on smooth varieties over a field or a Dedekind domain. This tower is a generalization of the construction used by Bloch-Lichtenbaum and Friedlander-Suslin in their studies of the spectral sequence from motivic cohomology to K-theory. Our main result is that an application of the classical Chow's moving lemma and some categorical constructions make the homotopy coniveau tower strictly functorial when the base is a field, and functorial in the homotopy category when the base is a Dedekind domain.
The moving lemma of Suslin states that a cycle on $X\times \mathbb{A} ^n$ meeting all faces properly can be moved so that it becomes equidimensional over $\mathbb{A}^n$. This leads to an isomorphism of motivic Borel-Moore homology and higher Chow groups. In this short paper we formulate and prove a variant of this. It leads to an isomorphism of Suslin homology with modulus and higher Chow groups with modulus, in an appropriate pro setting.
In this note we study the functoriality of the coniveau filtration in motivic homotopy theory via a moving lemma over a base scheme, extending previous works of Levine and Bachmann-Yakerson. The main result is that the motivic stable homotopy category can be modeled on a smaller site, the "smooth-smooth site". The proof is based on a new approach to the purity theorem of Morel-Voevodsky using specialization maps, which turns out to hold even in absence of the $\mathbb{A}^1$-homotopy invariance property. Applications to the homotopy coniveau tower and to higher Chow-Witt groups are given.
We prove a moving lemma for higher Chow groups with modulus, in the sense of Binda-Kerz-Saito, of projective schemes when the modulus is given by a very ample divisor. This provides one of the first cases of moving lemmas for cycles with modulus, not covered by the additive higher Chow groups. We apply this to prove a contravariant functoriality of higher Chow groups with modulus. We use our moving techniques to show that the higher Chow groups of a line bundle over a scheme, with the 0-section as the modulus, vanishes.
It is proved that for any cohomology theory A in the sense of [PS] and any essentially k-smooth semi-local X the Cousin complex is exact. As a consequence we prove that for any integer n the Nisnevich sheaf A^n_Nis, associated with the presheaf U |--> A^n(U), is strictly homotopy invariant. Particularly, for any presheaf of S^1-spectra E on the category of k-smooth schemes its Nisnevich sheves of stable A1-homotopy groups are strictly homotopy invariant. The ground field k is arbitrary. We do not use Gabber's presentation lemma. Instead, we use the machinery of nice triples as invented in [PSV…
Using the Langlands-Kottwitz paradigm, we compute the trace of Frobenius composed with Hecke operators on the cohomology of nearby cycles, at places of parahoric reduction, of perverse sheaves on certain moduli stacks of shtukas. Following an argument of Ngo, we then use this to give a geometric proof of a base change fundamental lemma for parahoric Hecke algebras for GL_n over local function fields. This generalizes a theorem of Ngo, who proved the base change fundamental lemma for spherical Hecke algebras for GL_n over local function fields, and extends to positive characteristic (for GL_n) …
Let X/S be a quasi-projective morphism over an affine base. We develop in this article a technique for proving the existence of closed subschemes H/S of X/S with various favorable properties. We offer several applications of this technique, including the existence of finite quasi-sections in certain projective morphisms, and the existence of hypersurfaces in X/S containing a given closed subscheme C, and intersecting properly a closed set F. Assume now that the base S is the spectrum of a ring R such that for any finite morphism Z -> S, Pic(Z) is a torsion group. This condition is satisfied if…
Let K be the field of fractions of a Henselian discrete valuation ring O_K. Let X_K/K be a smooth proper geometrically connected scheme admitting a regular model X/O_K. We show that the index δ(X_K/K) of X_K/K can be explicitly computed using data pertaining only to the special fiber X_k/k of the model X. We give two proofs of this theorem, using two moving lemmas. One moving lemma pertains to horizontal 1-cycles on a regular projective scheme X over the spectrum of a semi-local Dedekind domain, and the second moving lemma can be applied to 0-cycles on an FA-scheme X which need not be regular.…
We prove a character formula for some closed fine Deligne-Lusztig varieties. We apply it to compute fixed points for fine Deligne-Lusztig varieties arising from the basic loci of Shimura varieties of Coxeter type. As an application, we prove an arithmetic intersection formula for certain diagonal cycles on unitary and GSpin Rapoport-Zink spaces arising from the arithmetic Gan-Gross-Prasad conjectures. In particular, we prove the arithmetic fundamental lemma in the minuscule case, without assumptions on the residual characteristic.
H. Davenport's Problem asks: What can we expect of two polynomials, over the integers, with the same ranges on almost all residue class fields? This stood out among many separated variable problems posed by Davenport, D.J. Lewis and A. Schinzel. By bounding the degrees, but expanding the maps and variables in Davenport's Problem, Galois stratification enhanced the separated variable theme, solving an Ax and Kochen problem from their Artin Conjecture work. J. Denef and F. Loeser applied this to add Chow motive coefficients to previously introduced zeta functions on a diophantine statement. By r…
We study the deformations of the Chow group of zero-cycles of the special fibre of a smooth scheme over a henselian discrete valuation ring. Our main tools are Bloch's formula and differential forms. As a corollary we get an algebraization theorem for thickened zero-cycles previously obtained using idelic techniques. In the course of the proof we develop moving lemmata and Lefschetz theorems for cohomology groups with coefficients in differential forms.
A mathematical model is identifiable if its parameters can be recovered from data. Here we investigate, for linear compartmental models, whether (local, generic) identifiability is preserved when parts of the model -- specifically, inputs, outputs, leaks, and edges -- are moved, added, or deleted. Our results are as follows. First, for certain catenary, cycle, and mammillary models, moving or deleting the leak preserves identifiability. Next, for cycle models with up to one leak, moving inputs or outputs preserves identifiability. Thus, every cycle model with up to one leak (and at least one i…
We study algebraic varieties parametrized by topological spaces and enlarge the domains of Lawson homology and morphic cohomology to this category. We prove a Lawson suspension theorem and splitting theorem. A version of Friedlander-Lawson moving is obtained to prove a duality theorem between Lawson homology and morphic for smooth semi-topological projective varieties. K-groups for semi-topological projective varieties and Chern classes are also constructed.
We prove a decomposition theorem for the cohomological Chow group of 0-cycles on the double of a quasi-projective $R_1$-scheme over a field along a closed subscheme, in terms of the Chow groups, with and without modulus, of the scheme. This yields a significant generalization of the decomposition theorem of Binda-Krishna. As applications, we prove a moving lemma for Chow groups with modulus and an analogue of Bloch's formula for 0-cycles with modulus on singular surfaces. The latter extends a previous result of Binda-Krishna-Saito.
In this article, we develop an arithmetic analogue of Fourier--Jacobi period integrals for a pair of unitary groups of equal rank. We construct the so-called Fourier--Jacobi cycles, which are algebraic cycles on the product of unitary Shimura varieties and abelian varieties. We propose the arithmetic Gan--Gross--Prasad conjecture for these cycles, which is related to central derivatives of certain Rankin--Selberg $L$-functions, and develop a relative trace formula approach toward this conjecture. As a necessary ingredient, we propose the conjecture of the corresponding arithmetic fundamental l…
