In Hamiltonian mechanics, a (continuous) symmetry leads to conserved quantity, which is a function on (extended) phase space. In Nambu mechanics, a straightforward consequence of symmetry is just a relative integral invariant, a differential form which only upon integration over a cycle provides a conserved real number. The origin of the difference may be traced back to a shift in degrees of relevant forms present in equations of motion, or, alternatively, to a corresponding shift in degrees of relevant objects in action integral for Nambu mechanics.
In Ref.~\cite{Sag} we proposed a geometric formulation of generalized Nambu mechanics. In the present paper we extend the class of Nambu systems by replacing the stringent condition of constancy of 3-form by closedness. We also explore the connection between continuous groups of symmetries and conservation laws for such systems. The Noether theorem for generalized Nambu systems is formulated by generalizing the notion of momentum map. In this case, a natural choice of dynamical variables for discussion of symmetries is 2-form fields. Thus the generators and the conserved quantities in Noether …
A complete geometric classification of symmetries of autonomous Hamiltonian mechanical systems is established; explaining how to obtain their associated conserved quantities in all cases. In particular, first we review well-known results and properties about the symmetries of the Hamiltonian and of the symplectic form and then some new kinds of non-symplectic symmetries and their conserved quantities are introduced and studied.
In this paper, we extend the well-known Noether theorem for Lagrangian systems to contact Lagrangian systems. We introduce a classification of infinitesimal symmetries and obtain the corresponding dissipated quantities. We notice that in contact dynamics, the existence of infinitesimal symmetries does not produce conserved quantities, but functions that dissipate at the same rate than the energy; so, the corresponding quotients are true conserved quantities.
We analyse the complex-valued Klein-Gordon Equation from an integrability perspective by the implementation of the Lie Theory of Continuous Groups, where this equation is governed by power-law nonlinearity. We write the equations in terms of real dependent variables and examine both the two-dimensional and three-dimensional models. In the case of the two-dimensional model the analysis is extended by the determination of Noether point symmetries and conserved vectors via the construction of a Lagrangian.
It's well known that Noether symmetries lead to the conservation laws. Conserved quantities are constructed out of generator of the symmetry - invariant Hamiltonian vector field. Considering more general class of vector fields - non-Hamiltonian ones leads to the notion of non-Noether symmetry and conservation laws (Lutzky's integrals of motion) with interesting properties. In the present paper correspondence between non-Noether symmetries and conserved quantities in different types of dynamical systems (DS on symplectic, presymplectic and Poisson manifolds) is considered.
A computational classification of contact symmetries and higher-order local symmetries that do not commute with $t,x$, as well as local conserved densities that are not invariant under $t,x$ is carried out for a generalized version of the Krichever-Novikov equation. Several new results are obtained. First, the Krichever-Novikov equation is explicitly shown to have a local conserved density that contains $t,x$. Second, apart from the dilational point symmetries known for special cases of the Krichever-Novikov equation and its generalized version, no other local symmetries with low differential …
We complete the classification of symmetry constraints on gapped quadratic fermion hamiltonians proposed by Kitaev. The symmetry group is supposed compact and can include arbitrary unitary or antiunitary operators in the Fock space that conserve the algebra of quadratic observables. We analyze the multiplicity spaces of {\em real} irreducible representations of unitary symmetries in the Nambu space. The joint action of intertwining operators and antiunitary symmetries provides these spaces with the structure of Clifford module: we prove a one-to-one correspondence between the ten Altland-Zirnb…
We consider a problem of the consistent deformation of physical system introducing a new features, but preserving its fundamental properties. In particular, we study how to implement the noncommutativity of space-time without violation of the rotational symmetry in quantum mechanics or the Lorentz symmetry in f{i}eld theory. Since the canonical (Moyal) noncommutativity breaks the above symmetries one should work with more general case of coordinate-dependent noncommutative spaces, when the commutator between coordinates is a function of these coordinates. F{i}rst we describe in general lines h…
Noticing that the space of the solutions of a first order Hamiltonian field theory has a pre-symplectic structure, we describe a class of conserved charges on it associated to the momentum map determined by any symmetry group of transformations. Gauge theories are dealt with by using a symplectic regularization based on an application of Gotay's coisotropic embedding theorem. The analysis of Electrodynamics and of the Klein-Gordon theory illustrates the main results of the theory as well as the emergence of the energy-momentum tensor algebra of conserved currents.
I investigate the higher-derivative conformal theory which shows how the Nambu-Goto and Polyakov strings can be told apart. Its energy-momentum tensor is conserved, traceless but does not belong to the conformal family of the unit operator. To implement conformal invariance in this case, I develop the new technique that explicitly accounts for the quantum equation of motion and results in singular products. I show that the conformal transformations generated by such a nonprimary energy-momentum tensor form a Lie algebra with a central extension which in the path-integral formalism gives a loga…
The Hamilton-Jacobi theory is a formulation of Classical Mechanics equivalent to other formulations as Newton's equations, Lagrangian or Hamiltonian Mechanics. It is particulary useful for the identification of conserved quantities of a mechanical system. The primordial observation of a geometric Hamilton-Jacobi equation is that if a Hamiltonian vector field $X_{H}$ can be projected into the configuration manifold by means of a 1-form $dW$, then the integral curves of the projected vector field $X_{H}^{dW}$can be transformed into integral curves of $X_{H}$ provided that $W$ is a solution of th…
The relation between symmetries and conservation laws for solitons in a ferromagnet is complicated by the presence of gyroscopic (precessional) forces, whose description in the Lagrangian framework involves a background gauge field. This makes canonical momenta gauge-dependent and requires a careful application of Noether's theorem. We show that Cartan's theory of differential forms is a natural language for this task. We use it to derive conserved momenta of the Belavin--Polyakov skyrmion, whose symmetries include translation, global spin rotation, and dilation.
Classifications of symmetries and conservation laws are presented for a variety of physically and analytically interesting wave equations with power onlinearities in n spatial dimensions: a radial hyperbolic equation, a radial Schrodinger equation and its derivative variant, and two proposed radial generalizations of modified Korteweg--de Vries equations, as well as Hamiltonian variants. The mains results classify all admitted local point symmetries and all admitted local conserved densities depending on up to first order spatial derivatives, including any that exist only for special powers or…
This letter investigates the Lie point symmetries and conserved quantities of the Lagrangian systems on time scales, which unify the Lie symmetries of the two cases for the continuous and the discrete Lagrangian systems. By defining the infinitesimal transformations' generators and using the invariance of differential equations under infinitesimal transformations, the determining equations of the Lie symmetries on time scales are established. Then the structure equations and the form of conserved quantities with delta derivatives are obtained. The letter also gives brief discussion on the Lie …
The Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert (LLG) equation describes the dynamics of a damped magnetization vector that can be understood as a generalization of Larmor spin precession. The LLG equation cannot be deduced from the Hamiltonian framework, by introducing a coupling to a usual bath, but requires the introduction of additional constraints. It is shown that these constraints can be formulated elegantly and consistently in the framework of dissipative Nambu mechanics. This has many consequences for both the variational principle and for topological aspects of hidden symmetries that control conserved q…
Given a vector field on a manifold M, we define a globally conserved quantity to be a differential form whose Lie derivative is exact. Integrals of conserved quantities over suitable submanifolds are constant under time evolution, the Kelvin circulation theorem being a well-known special case. More generally, conserved quantities are well-behaved under transgression to spaces of maps into M. We focus on the case of multisymplectic manifolds and Hamiltonian vector fields. We show that in the presence of a Lie group of symmetries admitting a homotopy co-momentum map, one obtains a whole family o…
The strict connection between Lie point-symmetries of a dynamical system and its constants of motion is discussed and emphasized, through old and new results. It is shown in particular how the knowledge of a symmetry of a dynamical system can allow to obtain conserved quantities which are invariant under the symmetry. In the case of Hamiltonian dynamical systems it is shown that, if the system admits a symmetry of "weaker" type (specifically, a λ or a Λ-symmetry), then the generating function of the symmetry is not a conserved quantity, but the deviation from the exact conservation is "control…
Noether theorem establishes an interesting connection between symmetries of the action integral and conservation laws of a dynamical system. The aim of the present work is to classify the damped harmonic oscillator problem with respect to Noether symmetries and to construct corresponding conservation laws for all over-damped, under damped and critical damped cases. For each case we obtain maximum five linearly independent group generators which provide related five conserved quantities. Remarkably, after obtaining complete set of invariant quantities we obtain analytical solutions for each cas…
Due to a special nature of the Landau problem, in which the magnetic field is uniformly spreading over the whole two-dimensional plane, there necessarily exist three conserved quantities, i.e. two conserved momenta and one conserved orbital angular momentum for the electron, independently of the choice of the gauge potential. Accordingly, the quantum eigen-functions of the Landau problem can be obtained by diagonalizing the Landau Hamiltonian together with one of the above three conserved operators with the result that the quantum mechanical eigen-functions of the Landau problem can be written…

The symmetries and conserved quantities of Manton's modified superconductivity model with non-relativistic Maxwell-Chern-Simons dynamics (also related to the Quantized Hall Effect) are obtained in the ``Kaluza-Klein type'' framework of Duval et al.
The energy-momentum tensor for a particular matter component summarises its local energy-momentum distribution in terms of densities and current densities. We re-investigate under what conditions these local distributions can be integrated to meaningful global quantities. This leads us directly to a classic theorem by Max von Laue concerning integrals of components of the energy-momentum tensor, whose statement and proof we recall. In the first half of this paper we do this within the realm of Special Relativity and in the traditional mathematical language using components with respect to affi…
Conserved currents associated with the time translation and axial symmetries of the Kerr spacetime and with scaling symmetry are constructed for the Teukolsky Master Equation (TME). Three partly different approaches are taken, of which the third one applies only to the spacetime symmetries. The results yielded by the three approaches, which correspond to three variants of Noether's theorem, are essentially the same, nevertheless. The construction includes the embedding of the TME into a larger system of equations, which admits a Lagrangian and turns out to consist of two TMEs with opposite spi…
An explicit determination of all local conservation laws of kinematic type on moving domains and moving surfaces is presented for the Euler equations of inviscid compressible fluid flow on curved Riemannian manifolds in n>1 dimensions. All corresponding kinematic constants of motion are also determined, along with all Hamiltonian kinematic symmetries and kinematic Casimirs which arise from the Hamiltonian structure of the inviscid compressible fluid equations.
The equation of motion for comohogeneity-one Nambu-Goto strings in flat space $\mathbb{R}^{n,1}$ has been investigated. We first classify possible forms of the Killing vector fields in $\mathbb{R}^{n,1}$ after appropriate action of the Poincaré group. Then, all possible forms of the Hamiltonian for the cohomogeneity-one Nambu-Goto strings are determined. It has been shown that the system always has the maximum number of functionally independent, pair-wise commuting conserved quantities, i.e. it is completely integrable. We have also determined all the possible coordinate forms of the Killing v…
