QCD sum rules are used to study the mass spectrum of bottom-charm hybrid $\bar bGc$ systems. The correlation functions and the spectral densities are calculated up to dimension six condensates at leading order of $α_s$ for several $J^P$ quantum numbers. After performing the QCD sum rule analysis, we predict the masses of the $J^P=0^{-}, 0^{+}, 1^{-}, 1^{+}, 2^{-}, 2^{+}$ bottom-charm hybrids. These mass predictions show a similar supermultiplet structure as the bottomonium and charmonium hybrids. Using the QCD sum-rule mass predictions we analyze the possible hadronic decay patterns of the $\bar cGc$, $\bar bGc$ and $\bar bGb$ hybrids including the open-flavour and hidden-flavour mechanisms.
After the discovery of the double-charm baryon $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$ by LHCb, one of the most important topics is to search for the bottom-charm baryons which contain a $b$ quark, a $c$ quark and a light quark. In this work, we study the two-body non-leptonic weak decays of a bottom-charm baryon into a spin-$1/2$ bottomed baryon and a light pseudoscalar meson with the short-distance contributions calculated under the factorization hypothesis and the long-distance contributions considering the final-state-interaction effects. The branching fractions of all fifty-seven decay channels are estimated. The …
The masses of the heavy tetraquarks with open charm and bottom are calculated within the diquark-antidiquark picture in the framework of the relativistic quark model. The dynamics of the light quarks and diquarks is treated completely relativistically. The diquark structure is taken into account by calculating the diquark-gluon form factor. New experimental data on charmed and charmed-strange mesons are discussed. Our results indicate that the anomalous scalar D_{s0}^*(2317) and axial vector D_{s1}(2460) mesons could not be considered as diquark-antidiquark bound states. On the other hand, D_s…
Neither Dark Matter nor scalar particles in the Higgs sector are ruled out at energies accessible to bottom and charm factories. In Dark Matter searches, the error on the mass of Dark Matter is $\sim 4$ GeV in the best LHC studies. For light Dark Matter this could represent a 100% (or more) error. In Higgs searches, the presence of a light singlet Higgs can make the LHC Higgs search difficult, if not impossible. If Dark Matter or a Higgs scalar is light, it will {\it require} a low-energy machine to precisely determine the couplings. We review the models, modes of discovery and rate expectatio…
We present predictions for a variety of single-inclusive observables that stem from the production of charm and bottom quark pairs at the 7 TeV LHC. They are obtained within the FONLL semi-analytical framework, and with two "Monte Carlo + NLO" approaches, MC@NLO and POWHEG. Results are given for final states and acceptance cuts that are as close as possible to those used by experimental collaborations and, where feasible, are compared to LHC data.
This report discusses some recent investigations of the heavy hadron spectra using lattice QCD. The first half addresses multiple precision determinations of the masses of charm (and bottom) baryons. Recent lattice results in the tetraquark and the dibaryon sectors are also presented. The second half focuses on new exploratory studies of the excited charmonium spectra in the vector and scalar channels. Along the way, lattice results are compared with the experimental results, wherever they are available.
We present ground state spectra of mesons containing a charm and a bottom quark. For the charm quark we use overlap valence quarks while a non-relativistic formulation is utilized for the bottom quark on a background of 2+1+1 flavors HISQ gauge configurations generated by the MILC collaboration. The hyperfine splitting between $1S$ states of $B_c$ mesons is found to be $56^{+4}_{-3}$ MeV. We also study the baryons containing only charm and bottom quarks and predict their ground state masses. Results are obtained at three lattice spacings.
The impact of recent multi-loop calculations on precise determinations of charm- and bottom-quark masses and the strong coupling constant is discussed.
The implementation of the heavy quark spin symmetry in possible molecular states at the mixed bottom-charm threshold is somewhat different from that at the open charm or bottom thresholds. In particular it depends on two parameters describing separately the symmetry for the bottom and for charmed quarks. The corresponding spin structures of the $S$-wave molecular states of the meson pairs $B^{(*)} D^{(*)}$ are discussed as well as their consequences for properties of possible near-threshold resonances, analogs of the known charmonium-like and bottomonium-like $X$ and $Z$ states.
This work summarizes the current status of the measured semileptonic branching fractions $B^{0,+} \to X_c μν$. The sum of exclusive measurements is compared with the inclusive determination, accounting for isospin extrapolation. Further derived quantities are computed, taking into account different explanations for the unmeasured components of the total branching fraction. These quantities focus on the charge breakdown of the final states, and are designed for use as inputs or comparisons in future experimental measurements.
Standard Model $t\bar t$ samples in ATLAS and CMS provide an opportunity to conduct measurements of the polarization of quarks produced in top-quark decays. The bottom quarks from the $t \to W^+ b$ decays, as well as the charm, strange, up and down quarks from the subsequent $W^+ \to c\bar s, u\bar d$ decays, are polarized. When a polarized quark hadronizes to a baryon, its polarization is partly preserved, and is reflected in the angular distributions of the baryon decay products. For the strange and bottom quarks, this effect has already been seen in hadronic $Z$ decays at LEP. In Run 2 of t…
Stimulated by recent progress made by the LHCb Collaboration in discoveries of new bottom baryons, e.g., the $Ξ_{b}(6227)^{-}$ and the $Σ_{b}(6097)^{\pm}$, we re-examine the orbitally excited spectrum of the charmed and bottom baryons using Regge approach in the heavy quark-diquark picture. The results indicate that the spin-averaged mass spectrum of the orbitally-excited charmed and bottom baryons can be described by a linear Regge relation, which is derived from the rotating QCD string model. By giving further mass-splitting analysis of spin-dependent interactions, we explain the baryons $Ξ_…
In this article, we perform a systematic study of the mass spectrum of the vector hidden charmed and bottomed tetraquark states using the QCD sum rules.
Expectations for the momentum distribution of nonperturbative charm and bottom quarks in the proton are derived from a variety of models for the Fock space wave function on the light cone.
With the negative sign for $\sqrt m_s$, the quarks strange, charm and bottom make a Koide tuple. It continues the c-b-t tuple previously found by Rodejohann and Zhang and, more peculiar, it is quasi-orthogonal to the original lepton triplet.
The masses of heavy quark baryons are studied in an expansion in 1/N_c, SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking, and heavy-quark symmetry breaking. Very accurate model-independent mass relations are obtained for charm and bottom baryons.
In this article, the three point QCD sum rules is used to compute the strong coupling constants of vertices containing the strange bottomed ( charmed ) mesons with pion. The coupling constants are calculated, when both the bottom ( charm ) and pion states are off-shell. A comparison of the obtained results of coupling constants with the existing predictions is also made. Key words: strong coupling constant, meson, QCD sum rules, bottom, charm.
We use the method of QCD Sum Rules to estimate the masses of the charm baryon, $Λ^+_c$, bottom baryon $Λ^0_b$, strange baryon $Λ^0_s$ and compare them to their experimental values.
Changes in properties of heavy hadrons with a charm or a bottom quark are studied in nuclear matter. Effective masses (scalar potentials) for the hadrons are calculated using quark-meson coupling model. Our results also suggest that the heavy baryons containing a charm or a bottom quark will form charmed or bottom hypernuclei, which was first predicted in mid 70's. In addition a possibility of $B^-$-nuclear bound (atomic) states is briefly discussed.
LHC predictions for the charm and bottom nuclear modification factors using pQCD and AdS/CFT drag energy loss models are given. We show that a new observable, the double ratio of charm to bottom nuclear modification factors, allows for easy experimental distinction between the two classes of energy loss models.
In the framework of the color-magnetic interaction, we have systematically studied the mass splittings of the possible hidden-charm pentaquarks $qqqc\bar{c}$ ($q=u,d,s$) where the three light quarks are in a color-octet state. We find that i) the LHCb $P_c$ states fall in the mass region of the studied system; ii) most pentaquarks should be broad states since their $S$-wave open-charm decays are allowed while the lowest state is the $J^P=\frac12^-$ $Λ$-like pentaquark with probably the suppressed $η_cΛ$ decay mode only; and iii) the $J^P=\frac52^-$ states do not decay through $S$-wave and thei…
In this article, we perform a systematic study of the mass spectrum of the axial-vector hidden charmed and hidden bottom tetraquark states using the QCD sum rules, and identify the $Z^+(4430)$ as an axial-vector tetraquark state tentatively.
The one-loop corrections to the bottomonium mass spectrum due to the finite charm mass are evaluated in the framework of the relativistic quark model. The obtained corrections are compared with the results of perturbative QCD.
In this article, we study the mass spectrum of the scalar hidden charm and hidden bottom tetraquark states which consist of the axial-axial type and the vector-vector type diquark pairs with the QCD sum rules.
Axial vector $(J^{PC}=1^{++})$ charmonium and bottomonium hybrid masses are determined via QCD Laplace sum-rules. Previous sum-rule studies in this channel did not incorporate the dimension-six gluon condensate, which has been shown to be important for $1^{--}$ and $0^{-+}$ heavy quark hybrids. An updated analysis of axial vector charmonium and bottomonium hybrids is presented, including the effects of the dimension-six gluon condensate. The axial vector charmonium and bottomonium hybrid masses are predicted to be 5.13 GeV and 11.32 GeV, respectively. We discuss the implications of this result…
We derive indirect limits on the charm and bottom quark electric dipole moments (EDMs) from paramagnetic AMO and neutron EDM experiments. The charm and bottom quark EDMs generate $CP$-odd photon-gluon operators and light quark EDMs at the $c$- and $b$-quark mass thresholds. These $CP$-odd operators induce the $CP$-odd semi-leptonic operator $C_S$ and the neutron EDM below the QCD scale that are probed by the paramagnetic and neutron EDM experiments, respectively. The bound from $C_S$ is $\vert d_c \vert < 1.3\times 10^{-20}\,e\,\mathrm{cm}$ for the charm quark and $\vert d_b \vert < 7.6\times …
The cross sections for charm and bottom quark production in the threshold region are discussed. We consider the effects of an all order resummation of initial state soft-plus-virtual gluon radiation on the total cross sections compared to the order $α_s^3$ results.
We report the ground state masses of hadrons containing at least one charm and one bottom quark using lattice quantum chromodynamics. These include mesons with spin (J)-parity (P) quantum numbers J(P): 0(-), 1(-), 1(+) and 0(+) and the spin-1/2 and 3/2 baryons. Among these hadrons only the ground state of 0(-) is known experimentally and therefore our predictions provide important information for the experimental discovery of all other hadrons with these quark contents.
We perform a field-theoretical study of possible deuteron-like molecules with both open charm and bottom, using the Heavy-Meson Effective Theory. In this approach, we analyze the parameter space of the coupling constants and discuss the formation of loosely-bound $D^{(*)} B^{(*)} $-states. We estimate their masses and other properties.
We update the experimental moments for the charm quark as computed in arXiv:hep-ph/0702103. and used in arXiv:0907.2110 and arXiv:1010.6157 for the determination of the charm-quark mass. The new value for the MSbar charm-quark mass reads mc(3GeV)=0.993+/-0.008 GeV.
We provide results for the open-flavor strong decays of open-charm ($D$ and $D_{\rm s}$) and open-bottom ($B$, $B_{\rm s}$ and $B_{\rm c}$) mesons. The decays are calculated in a modified version of the $^3P_0$ pair-creation model, assuming harmonic oscillator wave functions. The spectra of open-charm and open-bottom mesons used in the calculations are computed within Godfrey and Isgur's relativized quark model. Quantum number assignments are also provided. Our results are compared with the existing experimental data.
We estimate the strong coupling constants of charmed and bottom mesons $ D_{(s)}^* $, $ D_{(s)1} $, $ B_{(s)}^* $, and $ B_{(s)1} $ with light vector mesons $ ρ$, $ ω$, $ K^* $, and $ ϕ$ within the framework of light-cone QCD sum rules. We compare our estimations to the ones predicted by other approaches.
New data for the total cross section sigma(e^+e^- --> hadrons) in the charm and bottom threshold region are combined with an improved theoretical analysis, which includes recent four-loop calculations, to determine the short distance \bar{MS} charm and bottom quark masses. The final result for the \bar{MS}-masses, m_c(3 GeV)=0.986(13) GeV and m_b(10 GeV)=3.609(25) GeV is consistent with but significantly more precise than a similar previous study.
In this article, we study the mass spectrum of the scalar hidden charm and bottom tetraquark states with the QCD sum rules. The numerical results are compared with the corresponding ones from a relativistic quark model based on a quasipotential approach in QCD. The relevant values from the constituent diquark model based on the constituent diquark masses and the spin-spin interactions are also discussed.
Exclusive nonleptonic decays of bottom baryons to charm baryons and pseudoscalar light mesons are analyzed within a relativistic three-quark model. We include factorizing as well as nonfactorizing contributions to the decay amplitudes. The total contribution of the nonfactorizing diagrams amount up to 30% of the factorizing contributions in amplitude. We present detailed predictions for rates and asymmetry parameters.
The effects of the finite charm quark mass on bottom quark mass determinations from $Υ$ sum rules are examined in detail. The charm quark mass effects are calculated at next-to-next-to-leading order in the non-relativistic power counting for the $Υ$ sum rules and at order $α_s^3$ for the determination of the bottom MSbar mass. For the bottom 1S mass, which is extracted from the $Υ$ sum rules directly, we obtain $M_b^{1S}=4.69\pm 0.03$ GeV with negligible correlation to the value of the strong coupling. For the bottom MSbar mass we obtain $\bar M_b(\bar M_b) = 4.17\pm 0.05$ GeV taking $α_s^{(n_…
We present preliminary results on the light, charmed and bottom baryon spectra using overlap valence quarks on the background of 2+1+1 flavours HISQ gauge configurations of the MILC collaboration. These calculations are performed on three different gauge ensembles at three lattice spacings (a ~ 0.12 fm, 0.09 fm and 0.06 fm) and for physical strange, charm and bottom quark masses. The SU(2) heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory is used to extrapolate baryon masses to the physical pion mass and the continuum limit extrapolations are also performed. Our results are consistent with the well meas…
In two recent papers, we used the hadro-quarkonium model to study the properties of hidden-charm and bottom tetraquarks and pentaquarks. Here, we extend the previous results and calculate the masses of heavy-quarkonium-kaon/hyperon systems. We also compute the spectrum of hidden-charm and bottom tetraquarks with strangeness in the compact tetraquark (diquark-antidiquark) model. If heavy-light exotic systems with non-null strangeness content were to be observed experimentally, it might be possible to distinguish among the large variety of available theoretical pictures for tetra- and pentaquark…
Electrons from semileptonic decays of heavy-flavor mesons (D and B) allow to study the energy loss of heavy-quarks in nuclear collisions at sqrt(s) = 200 GeV at RHIC. Since pQCD calculations have shown that the crossing point where bottom decay electrons start to dominate over charm decay electrons is largely unknown, an urgent need arises to access the relative contributions independently. A correlation method is proposed to identify and separate charm and bottom production processes on a statistical basis through tagging of their decay electrons and open charmed mesons. The feasibility for t…
We compute the decoupling relations for the strong coupling, the light quark masses, the gauge-fixing parameter, and the light fields in QCD with heavy charm and bottom quarks to three-loop accuracy taking into account the exact dependence on $m_c/m_b$. The application of a low-energy theorem allows the extraction of the three-loop effective Higgs-gluon coupling valid for extensions of the Standard Model with additional heavy quarks from the decoupling constant of $α_s$.
I discuss advances in the determination of strange, charm, and bottom quark parton distribution functions obtained in the CTEQ6.5 and CTEQ6.6 global analyses. These results affect electroweak precision observables and certain new physics searches at the Large Hadron Collider. I focus, in particular, on high-energy implications of the consistent treatment of heavy-quark threshold effects in DIS in the general-mass factorization scheme; an independent parametrization for the strangeness PDF; and the possible presence of nonperturbative ("intrinsic") charm.
We present up-to-date QCD predictions for open charm and bottom production at RHIC in nucleon-nucleon collisions at \sqrt{S} = 200 GeV. The electron spectrum resulting from heavy flavor decays is also evaluated for direct comparison to the PHENIX and STAR data. These predictions seek to establish a rigorous benchmark, including the theoretical uncertainties, against which nuclear collision data can be compared to obtain evidence for nuclear effects.
Masses of the pseudoscalar $(J^{PC}=0^{-+})$ charmonium and bottomonium hybrids are determined using QCD Laplace sum-rules. The effects of the dimension-six gluon condensate are included in our analysis and result in a stable sum-rule analysis, whereas previous studies of these states were unable to optimize mass predictions. The pseudoscalar charmonium hybrid is predicted to have a mass of approximately 3.8 GeV and the corresponding bottomonium prediction is 10.6 GeV. Calculating the full correlation function, rather than only the imaginary part, is shown to be necessary for accurate formulat…
We revisit the formation of pion-mediated heavy-light exotic molecules with both charm and bottom and their chiral partners under the general strictures of both heavy-quark and chiral symmetry. The chiral exotic partners with good parity formed using the $(0^+, 1^+)$ multiplet are about twice more bound than their primary exotic partners formed using the $(0^-,1^-)$ multiplet. The chiral couplings across the multiplets $(0^\pm, 1^\pm)$ cause the chiral exotic partners to unbind, and the primary exotic molecules to be about twice more bound, for $J\leq 1$. Our multi-channel coupling results sho…
The spectra of lepton pairs from correlated open charm and bottom decays in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions are calculated. Our approach includes energy loss effects of heavy quarks in deconfined matter which are determined by temperature and density of the expanding parton medium. We find a noticeable suppression of the initial transverse momentum spectrum of heavy quarks due to the energy loss at LHC conditions. Within the central rapidity covered by the ALICE detector system, the dominant contribution from bottom decays to the high invariant mass dielectron spectrum is predicted.
We use the Field Correlator Method in QCD to calculate the masses of $Σ_c$, $Ξ_c$ and recently observed $Σ_b$, $Ξ_b$ baryons and their orbital excitations.
Since the discovery of the first charmed meson in 1976, many open-charm and open-bottom hadrons were observed. In 2003 two narrow charm-strange states $D_{s0}^*(2317)$ and $D_{s1}(2460)$ were discovered by the BaBar and CLEO Collaborations, respectively. After that, more excited heavy hadrons were reported. In this work, we review the experimental and theoretical progress in this field.
The mass spectrum of S and P-wave mesons containing a single heavy quark has been computed using quenched lattice nonrelativistic QCD. Numerical results have been obtained at first, second and third order in the heavy quark expansion, so convergence can be discussed. The computed spectrum of charmed and bottom mesons is compared to existing model calculations and experimental data.
Recent theoretical and experimental improvements in the determination of charm and bottom quark masses are discussed. The final results, $m_c(3 \text{GeV})=986(13) $MeV and $m_b(m_b)=4163(16) $MeV represent, together with a closely related lattice determination $m_c(3 {\rm GeV})=986(10) $MeV, the presently most precise determinations of these two fundamental Standard Model parameters. A critical analysis of the theoretical and experimental uncertainties is presented.
We study the shift in the $Υ$ mass due to a non-zero charm quark mass. This shift affects the value of the $\bar{\rm MS}$ $b$-quark mass extracted from the $Υ$ system by about -20 MeV, due to an incomplete cancellation of terms that are non-analytic in the charm quark mass. The precise size of the shift depends on unknown higher order corrections, and might have a considerable uncertainty if they are large.
The relation of the thermal dilepton signal from deconfined matter, resulting in central ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions at RHIC and LHC energies, to the background yields from the Drell-Yan process and correlated semileptonic decays of open charm and bottom mesons is analyzed. We demonstrate that very stringent kinematical cuts offer a chance to identify the thermal signal in the continuum region.
Using new four-loop results for the heavy quark vacuum polarization and new data for bottom quark production in electron-positron annihilation, an update on the determination of charm- and bottom-quark masses through sum rules has been performed. The previous result for the charm-quark mass, $m_c(3 {\rm GeV})= 0.986(13) {\rm GeV}$, based on the lowest moment, is supported by the new results from higher moments which lead to consistent values with comparable errors. The new value for the bottom quark, $m_b(10 {\rm GeV})= 3.610(16) {\rm GeV}$, corresponding to $m_b(m_b)= 4.163(16) {\rm GeV}$, ma…
