We consider the problem of finding a conformal metric on the $n$-dimensional Euclidean ball $B^n$, $n\geq 3$, with zero scalar curvature in the interior and prescribed mean curvature $H$ on the boundary $\partial B^n = S^{n-1}$. For rotationally symmetric $H=H(r)$ satisfying a flatness condition of order $α\in(n-2,\,n-1)$ at each of its finitely many critical points in the region where $H>0$, we prove that the sign-change of $H'(r)$ in that region is sufficient for existence. Combined with the necessary condition of Liu and Wang, this yields a characterization: in this class, the problem is solvable if and only if $H$ is not monotone where it is positive. Along the way we prove that the single blow-up point of the subcritical approximation must be a local maximum of $H$, the boundary-trace analogue of a lemma used by Chen and Li on the sphere, and, under a separation condition on the values of the local maxima, we obtain multiple solutions. Our approach adapts the variational scheme of Chen and Li for the sphere to the boundary-trace setting, using subcritical approximation and the blow-up analysis of Escobar and García.
Using the flow method, we prove some existence results for the problem of prescribing the mean curvature on the unit ball. More precisely, we prove that there exists a conformal metric on the unit ball such that its mean curvature is $f$, when $f$ possesses certain reflection or rotation symmetry.
We consider a kind of Yamabe problem whose scalar curvature vanishes in the unit ball $\mathbb{B}^n$ and on the boundary $\mathbb{S}^{n-1}$ the mean curvature is prescribed. By combining critical points at infinity approach with Morse theory we obtain new existence results in higher dimensional case $n\geq 5$, under suitable pinching conditions on the mean curvature function.
We prove a sharp area estimate for minimal submanifolds that pass through a prescribed point in a geodesic ball in hyperbolic space, in any dimension and codimension. In certain cases, we also prove the corresponding estimate in the sphere. Our estimates are analogous to those of Brendle and Hung in the Euclidean setting.
In the Euclidean unit three-ball, we construct compact, embedded, two-sided free boundary minimal surfaces with connected boundary and prescribed high genus, by a gluing construction tripling the equatorial disc. Aside from the equatorial disc itself, these are the first examples in the three-ball of compact free boundary minimal surfaces with connected boundary.
We prove that a critical metric of the volume functional on a $4$-dimensional compact manifold with boundary satisfying a second-order vanishing condition on the Weyl tensor must be isometric to a geodesic ball in a simply connected space form $\mathbb{R}^{4}$, $\mathbb{H}^{4}$ or $\mathbb{S}^{4}.$ Moreover, we provide an integral curvature estimate involving the Yamabe constant for critical metrics of the volume functional, which allows us to get a rigidity result for such critical metrics.
We discover new monotonicity formulae for minimal submanifolds in space forms, which imply the sharp area bound for minimal submanifolds through a prescribed point in a geodesic ball. These monotonicity formulae involve an energy-like integral over sets which are, in general, not geodesic balls. In the Euclidean case, these sets reduce to the moving-centre balls introduced by the second author in [Zhu18].
We obtain upper and lower bounds for Steklov eigenvalues of submanifolds with prescribed boundary in Euclidean space. A very general upper bound is proved, which depends only on the geometry of the fixed boundary and on the measure of the interior. Sharp lower bounds are given for hypersurfaces of revolution with connected boundary: we prove that each eigenvalue is uniquely minimized by the ball. We also observe that each surface of revolution with connected boundary is isospectral to the disk.
We study the asymptotic Dirichlet problem for Killing graphs with prescribed mean curvature $H$ in warped product manifolds $M\times_\varrho \mathbb{R}$. In the first part of the paper, we prove the existence of Killing graphs with prescribed boundary on geodesic balls under suitable assumptions on $H$ and the mean curvature of the Killing cylinders over geodesic spheres. In the process we obtain a uniform interior gradient estimate improving previous results by Dajczer and de Lira. In the second part we solve the asymptotic Dirichlet problem in a large class of manifolds whose sectional curva…
We show existence of homothetically shrinking solutions of the fractional mean curvature flow, whose boundary consists in a prescribed numbers of concentric spheres. We prove that all these solutions, except from the ball, are dynamically unstable.
In this paper, we prove the existence of smooth, entire, strictly convex, spacelike, constant $σ_k$ curvature hypersurfaces with prescribed lightlike directions in Minkowski space. This is equivalent to prove the existence of smooth, entire, strictly convex, spacelike, constant $σ_k$ curvature hypersurfaces with prescribed Gauss map image. We also show that there doesn't exist any entire, convex, strictly spacelike, constant $σ_k$ curvature hypersurfaces. Moreover, we generalize the result in \cite{RWX} and construct strictly convex, spacelike, constant $σ_k$ curvature hypersurface with bounde…
We prove that, for a generic set of smooth prescription functions $h$ on a closed ambient manifold, there always exists a nontrivial, smooth, closed hypersurface of prescribed mean curvature $h$. The solution is either an embedded minimal hypersurface with integer multiplicity, or a non-minimal almost embedded hypersurface of multiplicity one. More precisely, we show that our previous min-max theory, developed for constant mean curvature hypersurfaces, can be extended to construct min-max prescribed mean curvature hypersurfaces for certain classes of prescription function, including smooth Mor…
We prove the multiplicity one theorem for min-max free boundary minimal hypersurfaces in compact manifolds with boundary of dimension between 3 and 7 for generic metrics. To approach this, we develop existence and regularity theory for free boundary hypersurface with prescribed mean curvature, which includes the regularity theory for minimizers, compactness theory, and a generic min-max theory with Morse index bounds. As applications, we construct new free boundary minimal hypersurfaces in the unit balls in Euclidean spaces and self-shrinkers of the mean curvature flows with arbitrarily large …
The paper is an attempt to resolve the prescribed Chern scalar curvature problem. We look for solutions within the conformal class of a fixed Hermitian metric. We divide the problem in three cases, according to the sign of the Gauduchon degree, that we analyse separately. In the case where the Gauduchon degree is negative, we prove that every non-identically zero and non-positive function is the Chern scalar curvature of a unique metric conformal to the fixed one. Moreover, if there exists a balanced metric with zero Chern scalar curvature, we prove that every smooth function changing sign wit…
We prove the existence of metrics with prescribed $Q$-curvature under natural assumptions on the sign of the prescribing function and the background metric. In the dimension four case, we also obtain existence results for curvature forms requiring only restrictions on the Euler characteristic. Moreover, we derive a prescription result for open submanifolds which allow us to conclude that any smooth function on $\mathbb{R}^n$ can be realized as the $Q$-curvature of a Riemannian metric.
In this paper, we consider prescribed shifted Gauss curvature equations for horo-convex hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{H}^{n+1}$. Under some sufficient condition, we obtain an existence result by the standard degree theory based on the a prior estimates for the solutions to the equations. Different from the prescribed Weingarten curvature problem in space forms, we do not impose a sign condition for radial derivative of the functions in the right-hand side of the equations to prove the existence due to the horo-covexity of hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{H}^{n+1}$.
