In our previous paper in \cite{C}, we generalized the almost-Schur lemma of De Lellis and Topping for closed manifolds with nonnegative Rcci curvature to any closed manifolds. In this paper, we generalize the above results to symmetric $(2,0)$-tensors and give the applications including $r$th mean curvatures of closed hypersurfaces in a space form and $k$ scalar curvatures for closed locally conformally flat manifolds.
In this paper, we prove almost Schur Lemma on closed smooth metric measure spaces, which implies the results of X. Cheng and De Lellis-Topping whenever the weighted function f is constant.
In this paper, we study a general almost Schur Lemma on pseudo-Hermitian (2n+1)-manifolds $(M,J,θ)$ for $n\geq2$. When the equality of almost Schur inequality holds, we derive the contact form $θ$ is pseudo-Einstein and the pseudo-Hermitian scalar curvature is constant.
We establish quaternionic contact (qc) versions of the so called Almost Schur Lemma, which give estimations of the qc scalar curvature on a compact qc manifold to be a constant in terms of the norm of the $[-1]$-component and the norm of the trace-free part of the $[3]$-component of the horizontal qc Ricci tensor and the torsion endomorphism, under certain positivity conditions.
Schur's lemma states that every Einstein manifold of dimension $n\geq 3$ has constant scalar curvature. Here $(M,g)$ is defined to be Einstein if its traceless Ricci tensor $$\Rico:=\Ric-\frac{R}{n}g$$ is identically zero. In this short note we ask to what extent the scalar curvature is constant if the traceless Ricci tensor is assumed to be \emph{small} rather than identically zero.
In this short note we establish an integral geometric inequality in a smooth metric measure space of the nonnegative Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature. This result can be regarded as a mild generalization of the almost Schur theorem due to De Lellis and Topping (Calc. Var., DOI: 10.1007/s00526-011-0413-z).
In this short paper, we study a symmetric covariant tensor in Finsler geometry, which is called the mean Berwald curvature. We first investigate the geometry of the fibres as the submanifolds of the tangent sphere bundle on a Finsler manifold. Then we prove that if the mean Berwald curvature is isotropic along fibres, then the Berwald scalar curvature is constant along fibres.
We establish a new version of the CR almost Schur Lemma which gives an estimation of the pseudohermitian scalar curvature on a compact strictly pseudoconvex pseudohermitian manifold to be a constant in terms of the norm of the traceless Webster Ricci tensor and the pseudohermitian torsion under a certain positivity condition. In the torsion-free case, i.e. for a compact Sasakian manifold, our positivity condition coincides with the known one and we obtain a better estimate
The Schur's theorem of antiholomorphic type is proved for arbitrary almost Hermitian manifolds, namely: If a connected almost Hermitian manifold of dimension greater or equal to 6 is of pointwise constant antiholomorphic sectional curvature, then this curvature is a global constant.
We prove a version of Yau's Schwarz Lemma for general almost-complex manifolds equipped with Hermitian metrics. This requires an extension to this setting of the Laplacian comparison theorem. As an application we show that the product of two almost-complex manifolds does not admit any complete Hermitian metric with bisectional curvature bounded between two negative constants that satisfies some additional mild assumptions.
An $η$-Einstein condition is introduced in the context of indefinite g.f.f-manifolds, and a few Schur-type lemmas for indefinite S-manifolds are provided.
We study cohomologies on an almost complex manifold $(M, J)$, defined using the Nijenhuis-Lie derivations $\mathcal{L}_J$ and $\mathcal{L}_N$ induced from the almost complex structure $J$ and its Nijenhuis tensor $N$, regarded as vector-valued forms on $M$. We show how one of these, the $N$-cohomology $H^{\bullet}_N (M)$, can be used to distinguish non-isomorphic non-integrable almost complex structures on $M$. Another one, the $J$-cohomology $H^{\bullet}_J (M)$, is familiar in the integrable case but we extend its definition and applicability to the case of non-integrable almost complex struc…
Let M be an almost Hermitian manifold of dimension greater or equal to 6. The following theorems are proved: Theorem 1. If M is of pointwise constant θ-holomorphic sectional curvature for a number θ in (0,π/2) then M is of constant sectional curvature or a Kähler manifold of constant holomorphic sectional curvature. Theorem 2. If M is of pointwise constant antiholomorphic sectional curvature and M is an RK-manifold (or AH3-manifold), then M is of constant antiholomorphic sectional curvature.
We prove two results related to the Schwarz lemma in complex geometry. First, we show that if the inequality in the Schwarz lemmata of Yau, Royden and Tosatti becomes equality at one point, then the equality holds on the whole manifold. In particular, the holomorphic map is totally geodesic and has constant rank. In the second part, we study the holomorphic sectional curvature on an almost Hermitian manifold and establish a Schwarz lemma in terms of holomorphic sectional curvatures in almost Hermitian setting.
In this article, we define a symmetric 2-tensor canonically associated to Q-curvature called J-tensor on any Riemannian manifold with dimension at least three. The relation between J-tensor and Q-curvature is precisely like Ricci tensor and scalar curvature. Thus it can be interpreted as a higher-order analogue of Ricci tensor. This tensor can also be used to understand Chang-Gursky-Yang's theorem on 4-dimensional Q-singular metrics. Moreover, we show an Almost-Schur Lemma holds for Q-curvature, which gives an estimate of Q-curvature on closed manifolds.
The $\bar{\partial}_{_{J}}$ operator over an almost complex manifold induces canonical connections of type $(0,1)$ over the bundles of $(p,0)$-forms. If the almost complex structure is integrable then the previous connections induce the canonical holomorphic structures of the bundles of $(p,0)$-forms. For $p=1$ we can extend the corresponding connection to all Schur powers of the bundle of $(1,0)$-forms. Moreover using the canonical $\C$-linear isomorphism betwen the bundle of $(1,0)$-forms and the complex cotangent bundle $T^*_{X,J}$ we deduce canonical connections of type $(0,1)$ over the Sc…
We prove the generalized Margulis lemma with a uniform index bound on an Alexandrov $n$-space $X$ with curvature bounded below, i.e., small loops at $p\in X$ generate a subgroup of the fundamental group of unit ball $B_1(p)$ that contains a nilpotent subgroup of index $\le w(n)$, where $w(n)$ is a constant depending only on the dimension $n$. The proof is based on the main ideas of V.~Kapovitch, A.~Petrunin, and W.~Tuschmann, and the following results: (1) We prove that any regular almost Lipschitz submersion constructed by Yamaguchi on a collapsed Alexandrov space with curvature bounded below…
One (actually, almost the only effective) way to prove formality of a differentiable manifold is to be able to produce a suitable derivation $δ$ such that $dδ$-lemma holds. We first show that such derivation $δ$ generates a (1,1)-tensor field (we denote it by $R$). Then, we show that the supercommutation of $d$ and $δ$ (which is a natural, essentially necessary condition to get a $dδ$-lemma) is equivalent to vanishing of the Nijenhujis torsion of $R$. Then, we are looking for sufficient conditions that ensure the $dδ$-lemma holds: we consider the cases when $R$ is self adjoint with respect to …
In the Friedmann Model of the universe, cosmologists assume that spacelike slices of the universe are Riemannian manifolds of constant sectional curvature. This assumption is justified via Schur's Theorem by stating that the spacelike universe is locally isotropic. Here we define a Riemannian manifold as almost locally isotropic in a sense which allows both weak gravitational lensing in all directions and strong gravitational lensing in localized angular regions at most points. We then prove that such a manifold is Gromov Hausdorff close to a length space $Y$ which is a collection of space for…
