Building on the author's recent work with Jan Maas and Jan van Neerven, this paper establishes the equivalence of two norms (one using a maximal function, the other a square function) used to define a Hardy space on $\R^{n}$ with the gaussian measure, that is adapted to the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup. In contrast to the atomic Gaussian Hardy space introduced earlier by Mauceri and Meda, the $h^{1}(\R^{n};dγ)$ space studied here is such that the Riesz transforms are bounded from $h^{1}(\R^{n};dγ)$ to $L^{1}(\R^{n};dγ)$. This gives a gaussian analogue of the seminal work of Fefferman and Stein in the case of the Lebesgue measure and the usual Laplacian.
We study the mapping properties of the Hardy--Littlewood fractional maximal operator between Lorentz spaces of the homogeneous tree and discuss the optimality of all the results.
In this paper, we prove strong type, weak type inequalities of Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator and fractional Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator on variable sequence spaces lp(Z). This is achieved using Calderon-Zygmund decomposition for sequences, properties of modular functional and Log Holder continuity.
It is shown that the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function associated to the cube in $\mathbb R^n$ obeys dimensional free bounds in $L^p$ fir $p>1$. Earlier work only covered the range $p>\frac 32$.
Two-weight criteria of various type for the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator and singular integrals in variable exponent Lebesgue spaces defined on the real line are established.
Let $\mathcal{M}$ be the bilinear Hardy-Littlewood maximal function and $\vec{b}=(b,b)$ be a collection of locally integrable functions. In this paper, the authors establish characterizations of the weighted {\rm BMO} space in terms of several different commutators of bilinear Hardy-Littlewood maximal function, respectively; these commutators include the maximal iterated commutator $\mathcal{M}_{Π\vec{b}}$, the maximal linear commutator $\mathcal{M}_{Σ\vec{b}}$, the iterated commutator $[Π\vec{b},\mathcal{M}]$ and the linear commutator $[Σ\vec{b},\mathcal{M}]$.
We discuss the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator on discrete Morrey spaces of arbitrary dimension. In particular, we obtain its boundedness on the discrete Morrey spaces using a discrete version of the Fefferman-Stein inequality. As a corollary, we also obtain the boundedness of some Riesz potentials on discrete Morrey spaces.
Two-weight norm estimates for the double Hardy transforms and strong fractional maximal functions are established in variable exponent Lebesgue spaces. Derived conditions are simultaneously necessary and sufficient in the case when the exponent of the right-hand side space is constant.
We study the mapping property of the commutator of bilinear Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator in homogeneous Triebel-Lizorkin space. We also show that the commutator of bilinear Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is a compact operator acting on product of Lebesgue spaces. The results are new even in the linear case.
In this paper we investigate the boundedness of classical operators, namely the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator, fractional integral operators, and Calderon-Zygmund operators, on generalized weighted Morrey spaces and generalized weighted weak Morrey spaces. We prove that the operators are bounded on these spaces, under certain assumptions.
We prove that the extremal sequences for the Bellman function of the dyadic maximal operator behave approximately as eigenfunctions of this operator for a specific eigenvalue. We use this result to prove the analogous one with respect to the Hardy operator.
In dimension one we give a maximal function characterisation of the Hardy space H^1(g) for the Gauss measure g, introduced by G. Mauceri and S. Meda. In arbitrary dimension, we give a description of the nonnegative functions in H^1(g) and use it to prove that L^p(g) is a contained in H^1(g) for 1<p\le\infty.
The best constant in the usual Lp norm inequality for the centered Hardy-Littlewood maximal function on R1 is obtained for the class of all ``peak-shaped'' functions. A positive function on the line is called ``peak-shaped'' if it is positive and convex except at one point. The techniques we use include convexity and an adaptation of the standard Euler-Langrange variational method.
We prove a radial maximal function characterisation of the local atomic Hardy space h^1(M) on a Riemannian manifold M with positive injectivity radius and Ricci curvature bounded from below. As a consequence, we show that an integrable function belongs to h^1(M) if and only if either its local heat maximal function or its local Poisson maximal function are integrable. A key ingredient is a decomposition of Hölder cut-offs in terms of an appropriate class of approximations of the identity, which we obtain on arbitrary Ahlfors-regular metric measure spaces and generalises a previous result of A.…
This paper constructs a Hardy-Littlewood type maximal operator adapted to the Schrödinger operator $\mathcal{L} := -Δ+ |x|^{2}$ acting on $L^{2}(\mathbb{R}^{d})$. It achieves this through the use of the Gaussian grid $Δ^γ_{0}$, constructed by J. Maas, J. van Neerven and P. Portal with the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operator in mind. At the scale of this grid, this maximal operator will resemble the classical Hardy-Littlewood operator. At a larger scale, the cubes of the maximal function are decomposed into cubes from $Δ^γ_{0}$ and weighted appropriately. Through this maximal function, a new class of w…
In this note besides two abstract versions of the Vitali Covering Lemma an abstract Hardy-Littlewood Maximal Inequality, generalizing weak type (1,1) maximal function inequality, associated to any outer measure and a family of subsets on a set is introduced. The inequality is (effectively) satisfied if and only if a special numerical constant called Hardy-Littelwood maximal constant is finite. Two general sufficient conditions for the finiteness of this constant are given and upper bounds for this constant associated to the family of (centered) balls in homogeneous spaces, family of dyadic cub…
In 2011, Dekel et al. developed highly geometric Hardy spaces $H^p(Θ)$, for the full range $0<p\leq 1$, which are constructed by continuous multi-level ellipsoid covers $Θ$ of $\mathbb{R}^n$ with high anisotropy in the sense that the ellipsoids can change shape rapidly from point to point and from level to level. In this article, if the cover $Θ$ is pointwise continuous, then the authors further obtain some real-variable characterizations of $H^p(Θ)$ in terms of the radial, the non-tangential and the tangential maximal functions, which generalize the known results on the anisotropic Hardy spac…
We study new weighted estimates for the 2-fold product of Hardy-Littlewood maximal operators defined by $M^{\otimes}(f,g):= MfMg$. This operator appears very naturally in the theory of bilinear operators such as the bilinear Calderón-Zygmund operators, the bilinear Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator introduced by Calderón or in the study of pseudodifferential operators. To this end, we need to study Hölder's inequality for Lorentz spaces with change of measures $$ \Vert fg \Vert_{L^{p,\infty}\left(w_1^{p/p_1} w_2^{p/p_2}\right)} \le C \Vert f \Vert_{L^{p_1,\infty}(w_1 )} \Vert g \Vert_{L^{p_2,\…
For the Hardy-Littlewood maximal and Calderón-Zygmund operators, the weighted boundedness on the Lebesgue spaces are well known. We extend these to the Orlicz-Morrey spaces. Moreover, we prove the weighted boundedness on the weak Orlicz-Morrey spaces. To do this we show the weak-weak modular inequality. The Orlicz-Morrey space and its weak version contain weighted Orlicz, Morrey and Lebesgue spaces and their weak versions as special cases. Then we also get the boundedness for these function spaces as corollaries.
For a real-valued function $f$ on a metric measure space $(X,d,μ)$ the Hardy-Littlewood maximal-function of $f$ is given by the following `supremum-norm': $$Mf(x):=\sup_{r>0}\frac{1}{μ(\mathcal{B}_{x,r})}\int_{\mathcal{B}_{x,r}}|f|dμ.$$ In this note, we replace the supremum-norm on parameters $r$ by $\mathcal{L}_p$-norm with weight $w$ on parameters $r$ and define Hardy-Littlewood integral-function $I_{p,w}f$. It is shown that $I_{p,w}f$ converges pointwise to $Mf$ as $p\to\infty$. Boundedness of the sublinear operator $I_{p,w}$ and continuity of the function $I_{p,w}f$ in case that $X$ is a L…
We precisely evaluate the operator norm of the uncentered Hardy-Littlewood maximal function on $L^p(\Bbb R^1)$. We also compute the operator norm of the uncentered Hardy-Littlewood maximal function over rectangles on $L^p(\Bbb R^n)$, and we show that the operator norm of the uncentered Hardy-Littlewood maximal function over balls on $L^p(\Bbb R^n)$ grows exponentially with the dimension as $n \to \infty$.
In this paper we prove that the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is bounded on Morrey spaces $\mathcal{M}_{1,λ}(\rn)$, $0 \le \la < n$ for radial, decreasing functions on $\rn$
In this paper, we investigate the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function on non-commutative symmetric spaces. We complete the results of T. Bekjan and J. Shao. Moreover, we refine the main results of the papers \cite{Bek} and \cite{Sh}.
This is a survey article about recent developments in dimension-free estimates for maximal functions corresponding to the Hardy--Littlewood averaging operators associated with convex symmetric bodies in $\mathbb R^d$ and $\mathbb Z^d$.
Let $X$ be a space of homogeneous type and let $\mathfrak{L}$ be a nonnegative self-adjoint operator on $L^2(X)$ enjoying Gaussian estimates. The main aim of this paper is twofold. Firstly, we prove the (local) nontangential and radial maximal function charaterization for the local Hardy spaces associated to $\mathfrak{L}$. This deduces the maximal function charaterization for local Hardy spaces in the sense of Coifman and Weiss provided that $\mathfrak{L}$ satisfies certain extra conditions. Secondly, we introduce the local Hardy space associated to the critical function $ρ$ which is motivate…
We study the weighted boundedness of the Cauchy singular integral operator $S_\Gm$ in Morrey spaces $L^{p,λ}(\Gm)$ on curves satisfying the arc-chord condition, for a class of "radial type" almost monotonic weights. The non-weighted boundedness is shown to hold on an arbitrary Carleson curve. We show that the weighted boundedness is reduced to the boundedness of weighted Hardy operators in Morrey spaces $L^{p,λ}(0,\ell), \ell>0$. We find conditions for weighted Hardy operators to be bounded in Morrey spaces. To cover the case of curves we also extend the boundedness of the Hardy-Littlewood max…
We show that the discrete Hardy-Littlewood maximal functions associated with the Euclidean balls in $\mathbb Z^d$ with dyadic radii have bounds independent of the dimension on $\ell^p(\mathbb Z^d)$ for $p\in[2, \infty]$.
We characterize the rearrangement invariant spaces for which there exists a non-constant fixed point, for the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator (the case for the spaces $L^p(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ was first considered by Korry in \cite{Ko}). The main result that we prove is that the space $L^{\frac{n}{n-2},\infty}(\mathbb{R}^{n})\cap L^{\infty}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ is minimal among those having this property
We study sharp growth conditions for the boundedness of the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function in the generalized Orlicz spaces. We assume that the generalized Orlicz function $ϕ(x, t)$ satisfies the standard continuity properties (A0), (A1) and (A2). We show that if the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function is bounded from the generalized Orlicz space to itself then $ϕ(x,t)/ t^p$ is almost increasing for large $t$ for some $p>1$. Moreover we show that the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function is bounded from the generalized Orlicz space $L^ϕ(\mathbb{R}^n)$ to itself if and only if $ϕ$ is weakly equiva…
A new proof is given of the atomic decomposition of Hardy spaces Hp, in the classical setting of Rn. The new method can be used to establish atomic decomposition of maximal Hardy spaces in general setting and non classical settings.
In this article, Fefferman-Stein inequalities in $L^p(\mathbb R^d;\ell^q)$ withbounds independent of the dimension $d$ are proved, for all $1 \textless{} p, q \textless{} + \infty.$This result generalizes in a vector-valued setting the famous one by Steinfor the standard Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator. We then extendour result by replacing $\ell^q$ with an arbitrary UMD Banach lattice. Finally,we prove similar dimensionless inequalities in the setting of the Grushinoperators.
The Hardy-Morrey spaces related to Laplace-Bessel differential equations are introduced in terms of maximal functions. The atomic decomposition theory which has the same cancellation properties of the $H^{p}_{Δ_ν}(\mathbb{R}^{n}_{+})$ Hardy spaces is established.
We investigate the class $\mathcal{B}^{loc}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ of exponents $p(\cdot)$ for with local Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is bounded in $L^{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ space. Littlewood-Paley square-function characterization of $L^{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ spaces with the above class of exponent are also obtained.
Let $\mathcal{E}(X,d,μ)$ be a Banach function space over a space of homogeneous type $(X,d,μ)$. We show that if the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator $M$ is bounded on the space $\mathcal{E}(X,d,μ)$, then its boundedness on the associate space $\mathcal{E}'(X,d,μ)$ is equivalent to a certain condition $\mathcal{A}_\infty$. This result extends a theorem by Andrei Lerner from the Euclidean setting of $\mathbb{R}^n$ to the setting of spaces of homogeneous type.
In this paper it is shown that the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator $M$ is not bounded on Zygmund-Morrey space $\mathcal{M}_{L(\log L),λ}$, but $M$ is still bounded on $\mathcal{M}_{L(\log L),λ}$ for radially decreasing functions. The boundedness of the iterated maximal operator $M^2$ from $\mathcal{M}_{L(\log L),λ}$ to weak Zygmund-Morrey space ${\mathcal {W \! M}}_{L(\log L),λ}$ is proved. The class of functions for which the maximal commutator $C_b$ is bounded from $\mathcal{M}_{L(\log L),λ}$ to ${\mathcal {W \! M}}_{L(\log L),λ}$ are characterized. It is proved that the commutator of the …
In this paper we study the bicomplex version of weighted Hardy spaces. Further, we describe reproducing kernels for the bicomplex weighted Hardy spaces. In particular, we generalize some results which holds for the classical weighted Hardy spaces. We also introduce the notion of bicomplex C*-algebra and discuss some of its properties including maximal ideals in BC.
The main aim of this paper is to prove that when $0<p<1/2$ the maximal operator $\overset{\sim }{σ}_{p}^{\ast }f:=\underset{n\in \mathbb{N}}{% \sup }\frac{\left\vert σ_{n}f\right\vert }{\left( n+1\right) ^{1/p-2}}$ is bounded from the martingale Hardy space $H_{p}$ to the space $L_{p},$ where $σ_{n}$ is $n$-th Fejér mean with respect to bounded Vilenkin system.
Let $L$ be a homogeneous divergence form higher order elliptic operator with complex bounded measurable coefficients on $\mathbb{R}^n$ and $X$ a ball quasi-Banach function space on $\mathbb{R}^n$ satisfying some mild assumptions. Denote by $H_{X,\, L}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ the Hardy space, associated with both $L$ and $X$, which is defined via the Lusin area function related to the semigroup generated by $L$. In this article, the authors establish both the maximal function and the Riesz transform characterizations of $H_{X,\, L}(\mathbb{R}^n)$. The results obtained in this article have a wide range o…
In this work, we consider the Cauchy problem for $u' - Au = f$ with $A$ the Laplacian operator on some Riemannian manifolds or a sublapacian on some Lie groups or some second order elliptic operators on a domain. We show the boundedness of the operator of maximal regularity $f\mapsto Au$ and its adjoint on appropriate Hardy spaces which we define and study for this purpose. As a consequence we reobtain the maximal $L^q$ regularity on $L^p$ spaces for $p,q$ between 1 and $\infty$.
Maximal and atomic Hardy spaces Hp and HAp , are considered in the setting of a doubling metric measure space in the presence of a non-negative self-adjoint operator whose heat kernel has Gaussian localization and the Markov property. It is shown that Hp = HAp with equivalent norms.
Let ${\mathcal X}$ be an RD-space with $μ({\mathcal X})=\infty$, which means that ${\mathcal X}$ is a space of homogeneous type in the sense of Coifman and Weiss and its measure has the reverse doubling property. In this paper, we characterize the atomic Hardy spaces $H^p_{\rm at}(\{\mathcal X})$ of Coifman and Weiss for $p\in(n/(n+1),1]$ via the radial maximal function, where $n$ is the "dimension" of ${\mathcal X}$, and the range of index $p$ is the best possible. This completely answers the question proposed by Ronald R. Coifman and Guido Weiss in 1977 in this setting, and improves on a dee…
In this paper we study the kernels of Toeplitz operators on both the scalar and the vector-valued Hardy space for $ 1 < p < \infty $. We show existence of a minimal kernel of any element of the vector-valued Hardy space and we determine a symbol for the corresponding Toeplitz operator. In the scalar case we give an explicit description of a maximal function for a given Toeplitz kernel. In the vectorial case we show not all Toeplitz kernels have a maximal function and in the case of $p=2$ we find the exact conditions for when a Toeplitz kernel has a maximal function. For both the scalar and vec…
In this work we prove some Hardy-Poincaré inequalities with quadratic singular potentials localized on the boundary of a smooth domain. Then, we consider conical domains with vertex on the singularity and we show upper and lower bounds for the corresponding optimal constants in the Hardy inequality. In particular, we prove the asymptotic behavior of the optimal constant when the slot of the cone tends to zero.
Let $L$ be a homogeneous divergence form higher order elliptic operator with complex bounded measurable coefficients and $(p_-(L),\, p_+(L))$ be the maximal interval of exponents $q\in[1,\,\infty]$ such that the semigroup $\{e^{-tL}\}_{t>0}$ is bounded on $L^q(\mathbb{R}^n)$. In this article, the authors establish the non-tangential maximal function characterizations of the associated Hardy spaces $H_L^p(\mathbb{R}^n)$ for all $p\in(0,\,p_+(L))$, which, when $p=1$, answers a question asked by Deng et al. in [J. Funct. Anal. 263 (2012), 604-674]. Moreover, the authors characterize $H_L^p(\mathb…
Let $λ>0$, $p\in((2\lz+1)/(2\lz+2), 1]$, and $\triangle_λ\equiv-\frac{d^2}{dx^2}-\frac{2λ}{x} \frac d{dx}$ be the Bessel operator. In this paper, the authors establish the characterizations of atomic Hardy spaces $H^p((0, \infty), dm_λ)$ associated with $\triangle_λ$ in terms of the radial maximal function, the nontangential maximal function, the grand maximal function, the Littlewood-Paley $g$-function and the Lusin-area function, where $dm_λ(x)\equiv x^{2λ}\,dx$. As an application, the authors further obtain the Riesz transform characterization of these Hardy spaces.
We consider a homogeneous tree endowed with a nondoubling flow measure $μ$ of exponential growth and a probabilistic Laplacian $\mathcal{L}$ self-adjoint with respect to $μ$. We prove that the maximal characterization in terms of the heat and the Poisson semigroup of $\mathcal{L}$ and the Riesz transform characterization of the atomic Hardy space introduced in a previous work fail.
This survey is based on a series of lectures given by the authors at the working seminar "Convexité et Probabilités" at UPMC Jussieu, Paris, during the spring 2013. It is devoted to maximal inequalities associated to symmetric convex sets in high dimensional linear spaces, a topic mainly developed between 1982 and 1990 but recently renewed by further advances. The series focused on proving for these maximal functions inequalities in $L^p(\mathbb{R}^n)$ with bounds independent of the dimension $n$, for all $p \in (1, +\infty]$ in the best cases. This program was initiated in 1982 by Elias Stein…
Let $Δ$ and $L=Δ-\|\mathbf x\|^2$ be the Dunkl Laplacian and the Dunkl harmonic oscillator respectively. We define the Hardy space $\mathcal H^1$ associated with the Dunkl harmonic oscillator by means of the nontangential maximal function with respect to the semigroup $e^{tL}$. We prove that the space $\mathcal H^1$ admits characterizations by relevant Riesz transforms and atomic decompositions. The atoms which occur in the atomic decompositions are of local type.
