We characterize the rearrangement invariant spaces for which there exists a non-constant fixed point, for the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator (the case for the spaces $L^p(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ was first considered by Korry in \cite{Ko}). The main result that we prove is that the space $L^{\frac{n}{n-2},\infty}(\mathbb{R}^{n})\cap L^{\infty}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ is minimal among those having this property
The Hardy-Littlewood-Polya inequality of majorization is extended for the ω-m-star-convex functions to the framework of ordered Banach spaces. Several open problems which seem of interest for further extensions of the Hardy-Littlewood-Polya inequality are also included.
In this paper we prove that the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is bounded on Morrey spaces $\mathcal{M}_{1,λ}(\rn)$, $0 \le \la < n$ for radial, decreasing functions on $\rn$
We characterize, in the context of rearrangement invariant spaces, the optimal range space for a class of monotone operators related to the Hardy operator. The connection between optimal range and optimal domain for these operators is carefully analyzed.
This is a survey article about recent developments in dimension-free estimates for maximal functions corresponding to the Hardy--Littlewood averaging operators associated with convex symmetric bodies in $\mathbb R^d$ and $\mathbb Z^d$.
We show that the discrete Hardy-Littlewood maximal functions associated with the Euclidean balls in $\mathbb Z^d$ with dyadic radii have bounds independent of the dimension on $\ell^p(\mathbb Z^d)$ for $p\in[2, \infty]$.
In this article, Fefferman-Stein inequalities in $L^p(\mathbb R^d;\ell^q)$ withbounds independent of the dimension $d$ are proved, for all $1 \textless{} p, q \textless{} + \infty.$This result generalizes in a vector-valued setting the famous one by Steinfor the standard Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator. We then extendour result by replacing $\ell^q$ with an arbitrary UMD Banach lattice. Finally,we prove similar dimensionless inequalities in the setting of the Grushinoperators.
Let $\mathcal{E}(X,d,μ)$ be a Banach function space over a space of homogeneous type $(X,d,μ)$. We show that if the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator $M$ is bounded on the space $\mathcal{E}(X,d,μ)$, then its boundedness on the associate space $\mathcal{E}'(X,d,μ)$ is equivalent to a certain condition $\mathcal{A}_\infty$. This result extends a theorem by Andrei Lerner from the Euclidean setting of $\mathbb{R}^n$ to the setting of spaces of homogeneous type.
In this work, we give new sufficient conditions for a Littlewood-Paley-Stein square function and necessary and sufficient conditions for a Calderón-Zygmund operator to be bounded on Hardy spaces $H^p$ with indices smaller than $1$. New Carleson measure type conditions are defined for Littlewood-Paley-Stein operators, and we show that they are sufficient for the associated square function to be bounded from $H^p$ into $L^p$. New polynomial growth $BMO$ conditions are also introduced for Calderón-Zygmund operators. These results are applied to prove that Bony paraproducts can be constructed such…
Let $\vec{p}\in(0,1]^n$ be a $n$-dimensional vector and $A$ a dilation. Let $H_A^{\vec{p}}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ denote the anisotropic mixed-norm Hardy space defined via the radial maximal function. Using the known atomic characterization of $H_{A}^{\vec{p}}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ and establishing a uniform estimate for corresponding atoms, the authors prove that the Fourier transform of $f\in H_A^{\vec{p}}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ coincides with a continuous function $F$ on $\mathbb{R}^n$ in the sense of tempered distributions. Moreover, the function $F$ can be controlled pointwisely by the product of the Hardy spac…
Let $p\in(0,1]$, $q\in(0,\infty]$ and $A$ be a general expansive matrix on $\mathbb{R}^n$. Let $H^{p,q}_A(\mathbb{R}^n)$ be the anisotropic Hardy-Lorentz spaces associated with $A$ defined via the non-tangential grand maximal function. In this article, the authors characterize $H^{p,q}_A(\mathbb{R}^n)$ in terms of the Lusin-area function, the Littlewood-Paley $g$-function or the Littlewood-Paley $g_λ^*$-function via first establishing an anisotropic Fefferman-Stein vector-valued inequality in the Lorentz space $L^{p,q}(\mathbb{R}^n)$. All these characterizations are new even for the classical …
Dimension-free bounds will be provided in maximal and $r$-variational inequalities on $\ell^p(\mathbb Z^d)$ corresponding to the discrete Hardy-Littlewood averaging operators defined over the cubes in $\mathbb Z^d$. We will also construct an example of a symmetric convex body in $\mathbb Z^d$ for which maximal dimension-free bounds fail on $\ell^p(\mathbb Z^d)$ for all $p\in(1, \infty)$. Finally, some applications in ergodic theory will be discussed.
In this paper, by using the atomic decomposition theory of Hardy space and weak Hardy space, we discuss the boundedness of parameterized Littlewood-Paley operator with variable kernel on these spaces.
We investigate the class $\mathcal{B}^{loc}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ of exponents $p(\cdot)$ for with local Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is bounded in $L^{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ space. Littlewood-Paley square-function characterization of $L^{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ spaces with the above class of exponent are also obtained.
Using well-known techniques, we establish Hardy-Littlewood-type and Hausdorff-Young-type inequalities for generalized Gegenbauer expansions and their unification.
In this paper we study some weak majorization properties with applications for the trees. A strongly notion of majorization is introduced and Hardy-Littlewood-Polya's inequality is generalized.
We establish a characterization of the Hardy spaces on the homogeneous groups in terms of the Littlewood-Paley functions. The proof is based on vector-valued inequalities shown by applying the Peetre maximal function.
We prove certain vector valued inequalities related to Littlewood-Paley theory on Euclidean spaces. They can be used in proving characterization of the Hardy spaces in terms of Littlewood-Paley operators by methods of real analysis.
We consider the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality on mixed-norm Lebesgue spaces. We give a complete characterization of indices $\vec p$ and $\vec q$ such that the Riesz potential is bounded from $L^{\vec p}$ to $L^{\vec q}$, including all the endpoint cases. As a result, we get the mixed-norm Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality.
This paper focuses on the operator norm of the truncated Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator $M^b_a$ and the strong truncated Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator $\tilde{M}^{\boldsymbol{b}}_{\boldsymbol{a}}$, respectively. We first present the $L^1$-norm of $M^b_a$, and then the $L^1$-norm of $\tilde{M}^{\boldsymbol{b}}_{\boldsymbol{a}}$ is given. Our study may have some enlightening significance for the research on sharp constant for the classical Hardy-Littlewood maximal inequality.
We consider Littlewood-Paley functions associated with non-isotropic dilations. We prove that they can be used to characterize the parabolic Hardy spaces of Calderón-Torchinsky.
We study a family of fractional integral operator defined on an homogeneous space with a "rectangle doubling" measure. As a result, we give an extension of the classical Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev theorem to a multi-parameter setting.
We prove the continuity of the map $f \mapsto \widetilde{M}f$ from $BV(\mathbb{R})$ to itself, where $\widetilde{M}$ is the uncentered Hardy--Littlewood maximal operator. This answers a question of Carneiro, Madrid and Pierce.
We obtain Fourier inequalities in the weighted $L_p$ spaces for any $1<p<\infty$ involving the Hardy-Cesàro and Hardy-Bellman operators. We extend these results to product Hardy spaces for $p\le 1$. Moreover, boundedness of the Hardy-Cesàro and Hardy-Bellman operators in various spaces (Lebesgue, Hardy, BMO) is discussed. One of our main tools is an appropriate version of the Hardy-Littlewood-Paley inequality $ \|\widehat{f}\|_{L_{p',q}} \lesssim \left\|f\right\|_{L_{p,q}}$.
The elementary geometric properties of the Jacob's ladders \cite{7} lead to a class of new formulae for short parts of the Hardy-Littlewood integral. This class of formulae cannot be obtained by methods of Balasubramanian, Heath-Brown and Ivic.
We prove the continuity of the map $f \mapsto (Mf)'$ from $W^{1,1}(\mathbb{R})$ to $L^1(\mathbb{R})$, where $M$ is the centered Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator. This solves a question posed by Carneiro, Madrid and Pierce.
The elementary geometric properties of Jacob's ladders lead to a class of new asymptotic formulae for short and microscopic parts of the Hardy-Littlewood integral. This class of asymptotic formulae cannot be obtained by methods of Balasubramanian, Heath-Brown and Ivic.
It is well known that if Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is bounded in space $L^{p(\cdot)}[0;1]$ then $1/p(\cdot)\in BMO^{1/\log}$. On the other hand if $p(\cdot)\in BMO^{1/\log},$ ($1<p_{-}\leq p_{+}<\infty$), then there exists $c>0$ such that Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is bounded in $L^{p(\cdot)+c}[0;1].$ Also There exists exponent $p(\cdot)\in BMO^{1/\log},$ ($1<p_{-}\leq p_{+}<\infty$) such that Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is not bounded in $L^{p(\cdot)}[0;1]$. In the present paper we construct exponent $p(\cdot),$ $(1<p_{-}\leq p_{+}<\infty)$, $1/p(\cdot)\in BLO^{1/\log}$ s…
We study the domination of the lattice Hardy--Littlewood maximal operator by sparse operators in the setting of general Banach lattices. We prove that the admissible exponents of the dominating sparse operator are determined by the $q$-convexity of the Banach lattice.
We use Jacob's ladders to solve the fine problem how to divide of the Hardy-Littlewood integral to equal parts, for example of magnitude $h=6.6\times 10^{-27}$ (the numerical value of elementary Planck quantum). The result of the paper cannot be obtained in known theories of Balasubramanian, Heath-Brown and Ivic.
Let $1<p<\infty$. We prove that there exists an $\varepsilon_p>0$ such that for each $f\in L^p(\mathbb{R})$, the centered Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator $M$ on $\mathbb{R}$ satisfies the lower bound $\|Mf\|_{L^p(\mathbb{R})}\ge (1+\varepsilon_p)\|f\|_{L^p(\mathbb{R})}$.
We prove a contractive Hardy-Littlewood type inequality for functions from $H^p(\mathbb{T})$, $0 < p \le 2$ which is sharp in the first two Taylor coefficients and asymptotically at infinity.
We study a family of maximal operators that provides a continuous link connecting the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function to the spherical maximal function. Our theorems are proved in the multilinear setting but may contain new results even in the linear case. For this family of operators we obtain bounds between Lebesgue spaces in the optimal range of exponents.
For $1<p<\infty$ and $M$ the centered Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator on $\mathbb{R}$, we consider whether there is some $\varepsilon=\varepsilon(p)>0$ such that $\|Mf\|_p\ge (1+\varepsilon)||f||_p$. We prove this for $1<p<2$. For $2\le p<\infty$, we prove the inequality for indicator functions and for unimodal functions.
We give a straighforward proof of the two weight estimates of the generalized maximal operator under Sawyer type testing conditions. The proof relies on the Martingale Carleson Embedding Theorem.
The elementary geometric properties of Jacob's ladders of the second order lead to a class of new asymptotic formulae for short and microscopic parts of the Hardy-Littlewood integral of $|ζ(1/2+it)|^4$. These formulae cannot be obtained by methods of Balasubramanian, Heath-Brown and Ivic.
We establish Hardy--Littlewood inequalities for the Heckman--Opdam transform associated to a general root datum $(\mathfrak{a},Σ,m)$ that generalizes an analogous result for the spherical Fourier transform on a Riemannian symmetric space of the non-compact type due to Eguchi and Kumahara. In particular we obtain a more precise Hausdorff--Young inequality that generalizes a recent result due to Narayanan, Pasquale, and Pusti.
We show that a function $ f $ of bounded variation satisfies $$ \Var Mf \leq C \Var f $$ where $ Mf $ is the centered Hardy-Littlewood maximal function of $ f $. Consequently, the operator $ f \mapsto (Mf)' $ is bounded from $ W^{1,1}(R) $ to $ L^{1}(R) $. This answers a question of Hajlasz and Onninen in the one-dimensional case.
In this paper we obtain new formulae for short and microscopic parts of the Hardy-Littlewood integral, and the first asymptotic formula for the sixth order expression $|ζ(\frac{1}{2}+i\vp_1(t))|^4|\zf|^2$. These formulae cannot be obtained in the theories of Balasubramanian, Heath-Brown and Ivic. Dedicated to the 75th aniversary of Anatolii Alekseevich Karatsuba.
A Hardy-Littlewood integral inequality on finite intervals with a concave weight is established. Given a function f on an interval [a,b], it is shown that the square of the weighted L^2 norm of its derivative f' is bounded by the product of the weighted L^2 norm of f and that of the second derivative f''.
In this paper we improve classical Hardy-Littlewood exponent $1/2$ by about $16.6\%$ 62 years after the original result. This result is the first step to prove the Selberg's hypothesis (1942). In order to reach our purpose we use discrete method. This paper is the English version of our paper \cite{4}.
In this paper, we got several sharp Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev-type inequalities on quaternionic Heisenberg groups (a general form due to Folland and Stein [FS74]), using the symmetrization-free method in a paper of Frank and Lieb [FL12], where they considered the analogues on classical Heisenberg group. First, we give the sharp Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequalities, both on quaternionic Heisenberg group and its equivalent on quaternionic sphere for exponent bigger than 4. The extremizer, as we guess, is almost uniquely constant function on sphere. Then their dual form, sharp conformally-invaria…
A known Hardy-Littlewood theorem asserts that if both the function and its conjugate are of bounded variation, then their Fourier series are absolutely convergent. It is proved in the paper that the same result holds true for functions on the whole axis and their Fourier transforms with certain adjustments. The proof of the original Hardy-Littlewood theorem is derived from the obtained assertion. It turned out that the former is a partial case of the latter when the function is supposed to be of compact support. A similar result as the obtained one but for radial functions is derived from the …
A quantitative two weight theorem for the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is proved improving the known ones. As a consequence a new proof of the main results in [HP] and in [HPR12] is obtained which avoids the use of the sharp quantitative reverse Holder inequality for $A_{\infty}$ proved in those papers. Our results are valid within the context of spaces of homogeneous type without imposing the non-empty annuli condition.
Let $M$ be the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function and $b$ be a locally integrable function. Denote by $M_b$ and $[b,M]$ the maximal commutator and the (nonlinear) commutator of $M$ with $b$. In this paper, the author consider the boundedness of $M_b$ and $[b,M]$ on Lebesgue spaces and Morrey spaces when $b$ belongs to the Lipschitz space, by which some new characterizations of the Lipschitz spaces are given.
In this paper we introduce a nonlinear integral equation such that the system of global solution to this equation represents a class of a very narrow beam at $T\to\infty$ (an analogue to the laser beam) and this sheaf of solutions leads to an almost-exact representation of the Hardy-Littlewood integral. The accuracy of our result is essentially better than the accuracy of related results of Balasubramanian, Heath-Brown and Ivic.
We study different geometric properties on infinite graphs, related to the weak-type boundedness of the Hardy-Littlewood maximal averaging operator. In particular, we analyze the connections between the doubling condition, having finite dilation and overlapping indices, uniformly bounded degree, the equidistant comparison property and the weak-type boundedness of the centered Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator. Several non-trivial examples of infinite graphs are given to illustrate the differences among these properties.
We find the exact value of the best possible constant $C$ for the weak type $(1,1)$ inequality for the one dimensional centered Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator. We prove that $C$ is the largest root of the quadratic equation $12C^{2}-22C+5=0$ thus obtaining $C=1.5675208...$. This is the first time the best constant for one of the fundamental inequalities satisfied by a centered maximal operator is precisely evaluated.
We study the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator defined via an unconditional norm, acting on block decreasing functions. We show that the uncentered maximal operator maps block decreasing functions of special bounded variation to functions with integrable distributional derivatives, thus improving their regularity. In the special case of the maximal operator defined by the l_infty-norm, that is, by averaging over cubes, the result extends to block decreasing functions of bounded variation, not necessarily special.
The Hardy-Littlewood majorant problem asks whether L^p norms of functions on the circle grow if one replaces their Fourier coefficients with their absolute values. This is clear if p is an even integer, but false if p is any other number. One can still ask if the norm grows at most by the degree raised to a small power for any p. We show that this is so with any epsilon power provided the majorizing function is the Dirichlet kernel on a random set, with large probability.
We show that the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is bounded on a reflexive variable Lebesgue space $L^{p(\cdot)}$ over a space of homogeneous type $(X,d,μ)$ if and only if it is bounded on its dual space $L^{p'(\cdot)}$, where $1/p(x)+1/p'(x)=1$ for $x\in X$. This result extends the corresponding result of Lars Diening from the Euclidean setting of $\mathbb{R}^n$ to the setting of spaces of homogeneous type $(X,d,μ)$.
