The development in the study of supersymmetric many-particle quantum systems with inverse-square interactions is reviewed. The main emphasis is on quantum systems with dynamical OSp(2|2) supersymmetry. Several results related to exactly solved supersymmetric rational Calogero model, including shape invariance, equivalence to a system of free superoscillators and non-uniqueness in the construction of the Hamiltonian, are presented in some detail. This review also includes a formulation of pseudo-hermitian supersymmetric quantum systems with a special emphasis on rational Calogero model. There are quite a few number of many-particle quantum systems with inverse-square interactions which are not exactly solved for a complete set of states in spite of the construction of infinitely many exact eigen functions and eigenvalues. The Calogero-Marchioro model with dynamical SU(1,1|2) supersymmetry and a quantum system related to short-range Dyson model belong to this class and certain aspects of these models are reviewed. Several other related and important developments are briefly summarized.
In a box of size $L$, a spatially antisymmetric square-well potential of a purely imaginary strength ${\rm i}g$ and size $l < L$ is interpreted as an initial element of the SUSY hierarchy of solvable Hamiltonians, the energies of which are all real for $g < g_c(l)$. The first partner potential is constructed in closed form and discussed.
We investigate the sine-square deformation (SSD) of free fermions in one-dimensional continuous space. On the basis of supersymmetric quantum mechanics, we prove the correspondence between the many-body ground state of the system with SSD and that of the uniform system with periodic boundary conditions. We also discuss the connection between the SSD in the continuous space and its lattice version, where the geometric correction due to the real-space deformation plays an important role in relating the eigenstates of the lattice SSD with those of the continuous SSD.
We construct the enveloping fundamental spin model of the t-J hamiltonian using the Quantum Inverse Scattering Method (QISM), and present all three possible Algebraic Bethe Ansätze. Two of the solutions have been previously obtained in the framework of Coordinate Space Bethe Ansatz by Sutherland and by Schlottmann and Lai, whereas the third solution is new. The formulation of the model in terms of the QISM enables us to derive explicit expressions for higher conservation laws.
We study the quantum mechanics of a system with inverse square potential in noncommutative space. Both the coordinates and momentums are considered to be noncommutative, which breaks the original so(2,1) symmetry. The energy levels and eigenfunctions are obtained. The generators of the so(2,1) algebra are also studied in noncommutative phase space and the commutators are calculated, which shows that the so(2,1) algebra obtained in noncommutative space is not closed. However the commutative limit Θ,\barΘ\to 0 for the algebra smoothly goes to the standard so(2,1) algebra.
We consider generic N=1 supersymmetric matter coupled to linearized N=1 supergravity through the multiplet of currents. By completing the square, we find the effective action giving the leading supergravity induced correction to the matter dynamics, expressed explicitly as a quadratic form in the components of the current multiplet. The effective action is supersymmetry invariant through an interplay of the local terms arising from the auxiliary field couplings, and the nonlocal terms arising from graviton and gravitino exchange, neither of which is separately invariant. Having an explicit for…
The Self-Adjoint Extension in the Schrodinger equation for potentials behaved as an attractive inverse square at the origin is critically reviewed. Original results are also presented. It is shown that the additional non-regular solutions must be retained for definite interval of parameters, which requires a necessity of performing a Self-Adjoint Extension (SAE) procedure of radial Hamiltonian. The Pragmatic approach is used and some of its consequences are considered for wide class of transitive potentials. Our consideration is based on the established earlier by us a boundary condition for th…
We study the problem of the attractive inverse square potential in quantum mechanics with a generalized uncertainty relation. Using the momentum representation, we show that this potential is regular in this framework. We solve analytically the s-wave bound states equation in terms of Heun's functions. We discuss in detail the bound states spectrum for a specific form of the generalized uncertainty relation. The minimal length may be interpreted as characterizing the dimension of the system.
We construct an exactly solvable quantum impurity model which consists of spin-1/2 conduction fermions and the spin-1/2 magnetic moment. The ground state is a Gutzwiller projected Fermi sea with non-orthonormal modes and its wave function in the site-occupation basis is a Jastrow-type homogeneous polynomial. The parent Hamiltonian has all-to-all inverse-square hopping terms between the conduction fermions and inverse-square spin-exchange terms between the conduction fermions and the magnetic moments. The low-lying energy levels, spin-spin correlation function, and von Neumann entanglement entr…
We investigate the phase diagram of hard-core bosons in two-leg ladders in the presence of soft-shoulder potentials. We show how the competition between local and non-local terms gives rise to a phase diagram with liquid phases with dominant cluster, spin-, and density-wave quasi-long-range ordering. These phases are separated by Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless, Gaussian, and supersymmetric (SUSY) quantum critical transitions. For the latter, we provide a phenomenological description of coupled SUSY conformal field theories, whose predictions are confirmed by matrix-product state simulations. …
A Green's function approach is presented for the D-dimensional inverse square potential in quantum mechanics. This approach is implemented by the introduction of hyperspherical coordinates and the use of a real-space regulator in the regularized version of the model. The application of Sturm-Liouville theory yields a closed expression for the radial energy Green's function. Finally, the equivalence with a recent path-integral treatment of the same problem is explicitly shown.
Superspace techniques are used to formulate a supersymmetric model on an AdS3 surface embedded in four dimensions. In this model, the supersymmetry transformation is the "square root" of the transformation generated by the isometry generators of AdS3. Since momentum is not an isometry generator, supersymmetry does not result in equal masses for a Bosonic field and its Fermionic partner. We express this model in terms of coordinates that characterize the AdS3 space. In one coordinate system, it is possible to define a subspace with a Minkowski metric. It becomes possible to infer a model in AdS…
The quantum-mechanical D-dimensional inverse square potential is analyzed using field-theoretic renormalization techniques. A solution is presented for both the bound-state and scattering sectors of the theory using cutoff and dimensional regularization. In the renormalized version of the theory, there is a strong-coupling regime where quantum-mechanical breaking of scale symmetry takes place through dimensional transmutation, with the creation of a single bound state and of an energy-dependent s-wave scattering matrix element.
Weak-strong coupling duality relations are shown to be present in the quantum-mechanical many-body system with the interacting potential proportional to the pair-wise inverse-squared distance in addition to the harmonic potential. Using duality relations we have solved the problem of families interacting by the inverse-squared interaction. Owing to duality, the coupling constants of the families are mutually inverse. The spectrum and eigenfunctions are determined mainly algebraically owing to O(2,1) dynamical symmetry. The constructed Hamiltonian for families and appropriate solutions are of h…
We conjecture that the Fourier coefficients of a degree three Siegel form, $1/\sqrt{χ_{18}}$, count the degeneracy of three-center BPS bound states in type II string theory compactified on $K3 \times T^2$. We provide evidence for our conjecture in the form of consistency with physical considerations of wall-crossing, holographic bounds, and the appearance of suitable counting functions (involving the inverse of the modular discriminant $Δ$ and the inverse of the Igusa cusp form $Φ_{10}$) in limits where the count degenerates to involve single-center or two-center objects.
The problem of a particle of mass m in the field of the inverse square potential is studied in quantum mechanics with a generalized uncertainty principle, characterized by the existence of a minimal length. Using the coordinate representation, for a specific form of the generalized uncertainty relation, we solve the deformed Schrödinger equation analytically in terms of confluent Heun functions. We explicitly show the regularizing effect of the minimal length on the singularity of the potential. We discuss the problem of bound states in detail and we derive an expression for the energy spectru…
The "square root" of the Dirac operator derived on the superspace is used to construct supersymmetric field equations. In addition to the recently found solution - a vector supermultiplet I demonstrate how a chiral supermultiplet follows as the solution. Both vector and chiral supermultiplets are shown to obey appropriate (massless) equations of motion. This procedure yields thus a complete set of fields and their equations necessary to construct renormalizable supersymmetric theories. The problem of masses and interaction is also discussed.
We investigate cosmological dynamics of multiple tachyon fields with inverse square potentials. A phase-space analysis of the spatially flat FRW models shows that there exists power-law cosmological scaling solutions. We study the stability of the solutions and find that the potential-kinetic-scaling solution is a global attractor. However, in the presence of a barotropic fluid the solution is an attractor only in one region of the parameter space and the tracking solution is an attractor in the other region. We briefly discuss the physical consequences of these results.
The su(1$|$1) symmetric version of the Haldane-Shastry spin chain is diagonalized by means of a linear transformation. The same transformation applied to the original su(2) model yields simple expressions for the Hamiltonian and the generators of the Yangian symmetry of the model in terms of spin wave operators.
Hamiltonians with inverse square interaction potential occur in the study of a variety of physical systems and exhibit a rich mathematical structure. In this talk we briefly mention some of the applications of such Hamiltonians and then analyze the case of the N-body rational Calogero model as an example. This model has recently been shown to admit novel solutions, whose properties are discussed.
We review recent experimental tests of the gravitational inverse-square law and the wide variety of theoretical considerations that suggest the law may break down in experimentally accessible regions.
The spectrum and partition function of a model consisting of SU(n) spins positioned at the equilibrium positions of a classical Calogero model and interacting through inverse-square exchange are derived. The energy levels are equidistant and have a high degree of degeneracy, with several SU(n) multiplets belonging to the same energy eigenspace. The partition function takes the form of a q-deformed polynomial. This leads to a description of the system by means of an effective parafermionic hamiltonian, and to a classification of the states in terms of "modules" consisting of base-n strings of i…
