Let G be reductive algebraic group over a field k, such that every semisimple normal subgroup of G has isotropic rank >=2. Let K_1^G be the non-stable K_1-functor associated to G (also called the Whitehead group of G in the field case). We show that K_1^G(k)=K_1^G(k[X_1,...,X_n]) for any n>= 1. This implies that K_1^G is A^1-homotopy invariant on the category of regular k-algebras, if k is perfect. If k is infinite perfect, one also deduces that K_1^G(R)-> K_1^G(K) is injective for any regular local k-algebra R with the fraction field K.
Let C be a small category and G be a tensor Grothendieck category. We define a notion of atness in the category Fun(C; G) of all covariant functors from C to G and show that the inclusion K(FlatA) ---> K(A) has a right adjoint where K(A) is the homotopy category of A and K(FlatA) its subcategory consisting of complexes of at functors. In addition, we find a replacement for the quotient Dpac(FlatA) = K(FlatA)Kp(FlatA) of triangulated categories where Kp(FlatA) is the homotopy category of all pure acyclic complexes of at functors.
We compute the $\mathbb{A}^1$-localization of several invariants of schemes namely, topological Hochschild homology ($\mathrm{THH}$), topological cyclic homology ($\mathrm{TC}$) and topological periodic cyclic homology ($\mathrm{TP}$). This procedure is quite brutal and kills the completed versions of most of these invariants. The main ingredient for the vanishing statements is the vanishing of $\mathbb{A}^1$-localization of de Rham cohomology (and, eventually, crystalline cohomology) in positive characteristics.
This article provides some basic results on weight structures, weight complex functors and homotopy categories. We prove that the full subcategories K(A)^{w < n}, K(A)^{w > n}, K(A)^- and K(A)^+ (of objects isomorphic to suitably bounded complexes) of the homotopy category K(A) of an additive category A are idempotent complete, which confirms that (K(A)^{w <= 0}, K(A)^{w >= 0}) is a weight structure on K(A). We discuss weight complex functors and provide full details of an argument sketched by M. Bondarko, which shows that if w is a bounded weight structure on a triangulated category T that ha…
Let $k$ be an algebraically closed field of exponential characteristic $p$. Given any prime $\ell\neq p$, we construct a stable étale realization functor $$\underline{\text{Ét}}_{\ell}:\text{Spt}(k)\rightarrow \text{Pro}(\text{Spt})^{H\mathbb{Z}/\ell}$$ from the stable $\infty$-category of motivic $\mathbb{P}^1$-spectra over $k$ to the stable $\infty$-category of $(H\mathbb{Z}/\ell)^*$-local pro-spectra (see section 3 for definition). This is induced by the étale topological realization functor á la Friedlander. The constant presheaf functor naturally induces the functor \[\text{SH}[1/p]\right…
We prove that every functor defined on dg categories, which is derived Morita invariant, localizing, and A^1-homotopy invariant, satisfies the fundamental theorem. As an application, we recover in a unified and conceptual way, Weibel and Kassel's fundamental theorems in homotopy algebraic K-theory, and periodic cyclic homology, respectively.
This is the second paper in a series. In part I we developed deformation theory of objects in homotopy and derived categories of DG categories. Here we extend these (derived) deformation functors to an appropriate bicategory of artinian DG algebras and prove that these extended functors are pro-representable in a strong sense.
We consider the "homotopy coniveau tower" for an arbitrary cohomology theory on smooth varieties over a field or a Dedekind domain. This tower is a generalization of the construction used by Bloch-Lichtenbaum and Friedlander-Suslin in their studies of the spectral sequence from motivic cohomology to K-theory. Our main result is that an application of the classical Chow's moving lemma and some categorical constructions make the homotopy coniveau tower strictly functorial when the base is a field, and functorial in the homotopy category when the base is a Dedekind domain.
A dg-natural transformation between dg-functors is called an objectwise homotopy equivalence if its induced morphism on each object admits a homotopy inverse. In general an objectwise homotopy equivalence does not have a dg-inverse but has an $A_{\infty}$ quasi-inverse. In this note we give a recurrent formula of the $A_{\infty}$ quasi-inverse. This result is useful in studying the compositions of dg-lifts of derived functors of schemes.
We show that if G is a finite constant group acting on a scheme X such that the order of G is invertible in the residue fields of X, then the G-equivariant motivic stable homotopy category of X is equivalent to the stabilization of the category of motivic G-spaces with finite étale transfers over X at the trivial representation sphere. Along the way we obtain several results of independent interest, among them: we construct and study norms in the motivic homotopy theory of stacks, and we extend the homotopy t-structure to DM-stacks and establish some favorable properties.
Given a DG-category A we introduce the bar category of modules Modbar(A). It is a DG-enhancement of the derived category D(A) of A which is isomorphic to the category of DG A-modules with A-infinity morphisms between them. However, it is defined intrinsically in the language of DG-categories and requires no complex machinery or sign conventions of A-infinity categories. We define for these bar categories Tensor and Hom bifunctors, dualisation functors, and a convolution of twisted complexes. The intended application is to working with DG-bimodules as enhancements of exact functors between tria…
In this paper, we continue the program initiated by Kahn-Saito-Yamazaki by constructing and studying an unstable motivic homotopy category with modulus, extending the Morel-Voevodsky construction from smooth schemes over a field $k$ to certain diagrams of schemes. We present this category as a candidate environment for studying representability problems for non $\mathbb{A}^1$-invariant generalized cohomology theories.
In this paper, we formulate axioms of certain graded cohomology theory for which Chern class maps from higher K-theory are defined, following the method of Gillet [Gi1]. We will not include homotopy invariance nor purity in our axioms. It will turn out that the Grothendieck-Riemann-Roch theorem and the Riemann-Roch theorem without denominators hold for our higher Chern classes. We will also give two applications of our Riemann-Roch results.
We study some basic properties of schematic homotopy types and the schematization functor. We describe two different algebraic models for schematic homotopy types: co-simplicial Hopf alegbras and equivariant co-simplicial algebras, and provide explicit constructions of the schematization functor for each of these models. We also investigate some standard properties of the schematization functor helpful for the description of the schematization of smooth projective complex varieties. In a companion paper these results are used in the construction of a non-abelian Hodge structure on the schemati…
We study two different flavours of A^1-homotopy theory in the setting of spectral algebraic geometry, and compare them to classical A^1-homotopy theory. As an application we show that the spectral analogue of Weibel's homotopy invariant K-theory collapses to the classical theory. Along the way we give a new construction of nonconnective algebraic K-theory of stable infinity-categories via a generalization of the Bass-Thomason-Trobaugh construction.
If $f:S' \to S$ is a finite locally free morphism of schemes, we construct a symmetric monoidal "norm" functor $f_\otimes: \mathcal H_*(S') \to\mathcal H_*(S)$, where $\mathcal H_*(S)$ is the pointed unstable motivic homotopy category over $S$. If $f$ is finite étale, we show that it stabilizes to a functor $f_\otimes: \mathcal{SH}(S') \to \mathcal{SH}(S)$, where $\mathcal{SH}(S)$ is the $\mathbb P^1$-stable motivic homotopy category over $S$. Using these norm functors, we define the notion of a normed motivic spectrum, which is an enhancement of a motivic $E_\infty$-ring spectrum. The main co…
The category of finite Milnor-Witt correspondences, introduced by Calmès and Fasel, provides a new type of correspondences closer to the motivic homotopy theoretic framework than Suslin-Voevodsky's correspondences. A fundamental result of the theory of ordinary correspondences concerns homotopy invariance of sheaves with transfers, and in the present paper we address this question in the setting of Milnor-Witt correspondences. Employing techniques due to Druzhinin, Fasel-Østvær and Garkusha-Panin, we show that homotopy invariance of presheaves with Milnor-Witt transfers is preserved under Nisn…
In this note, we discuss the derived functors of infinite products and homotopy limits. $QC(X)$, the category of quasi-coherent sheaves on a Deligne-Mumford stack $X$, usually has the property that the derived functors of product vanish after a finite stage. We use this fact to study the convergence of certain homotopy limits and apply it compare the derived category of $QC(X)$ with certain other closely related triangulated categories.
We study the semi-topologization functor of Friedlander-Walker from the perspective of motivic homotopy theory. We construct a triangulated endo-functor on the stable motivic homotopy category $\mathcal{SH}(\C)$, which we call \emph{homotopy semi-topologization}. As applications, we discuss the representability of several semi-topological cohomology theories in $\mathcal{SH}(\C)$, a construction of a semi-topological analogue of algebraic cobordism, and a construction of Atiyah-Hirzebruch type spectral sequences for this theory.
The main theorem in this paper is that the base change functor from a noetherian abelian category to its noetherian polynomial category induces an isomorphism on K-theory. The main theorem implies the well-known fact that A^1-homotopy invariance of K'-theory for noetherian schemes.
We construct a model structure on simplicial profinite sets such that the homotopy groups carry a natural profinite structure. This yields a rigid profinite completion functor for spaces and pro-spaces. One motivation is the étale homotopy theory of schemes in which higher profinite étale homotopy groups fit well with the étale fundamental group which is always profinite. We show that the profinite étale topological realization functor is a good object in several respects.
We study simplicial profinite groups with a view towards applications in profinite combinatorial group theory. This approach provides a natural framework to the concept of pro-$\mathfrak{C}$-presentation of a pro-$\mathfrak{C}$-group $G$ as a 1-truncation of its free simplicial pro-$\mathfrak{C}$-resolution. The category of simplicial pro-$\mathfrak{C}$-groups has a closed simplicial model category structure. This yields a possibility to define some old and new derived functors as left Quillen derived functors from this simplicial model category. When $\mathfrak{C}$ is L-groups, than may const…
This is the first paper in a series. We develop a general deformation theory of objects in homotopy and derived categories of DG categories. Namely, for a DG module $E$ over a DG category we define four deformation functors $\Def ^{\h}(E)$, $\coDef ^{\h}(E)$, $\Def (E)$, $\coDef (E)$. The first two functors describe the deformations (and co-deformations) of $E$ in the homotopy category, and the last two - in the derived category. We study their properties and relations. These functors are defined on the category of artinian (not necessarily commutative) DG algebras.
Simplicial presheaves on cartesian spaces provide a general notion of smooth spaces. There is a corresponding smooth version of the singular complex functor, which maps smooth spaces to simplicial sets. We consider the localisation of the (projective or injective) model category of smooth spaces at the morphisms which become weak equivalences under the singular complex functor. We prove that this localisation agrees with a motivic-style $\mathbb{R}$-localisation of the model category of smooth spaces. Further, we exhibit the singular complex functor for smooth spaces as one of several Quillen …
For a finite Galois extension of fields L/k with Galois group G, we study a functor from the G-equivariant stable homotopy category to the stable motivic homotopy category over k induced by the classical Galois correspondence. We show that after completing at a prime and eta (the motivic Hopf map) this results in a full and faithful embedding whenever k is real closed and L = k[i]. It is a full and faithful embedding after eta-completion if a motivic version of Serre's finiteness theorem is valid. We produce strong necessary conditions on the field extension L/k for this functor to be full and…
The strictly homotopy invariance of the associated Nisnevish sheave $\widetilde{\mathcal F}_{Nis}$ of a homotopy invariant presheave $\mathcal F$ with GW-transfers (or Witt-transfers) on the category of smooth varieties over a prefect field $k$, $char\,k \neq 2$, is proved, i.e. the isomorphism $$H^i_{Nis}(\mathbb A^1\times X,\widetilde{\mathcal F}_{Nis})\simeq H^i_{Nis}(X,\widetilde{\mathcal F}_{Nis})$$ for any $X\in Sm_k$ is obtained. This theorem is necessary for the construction of the triangulated category of GW-motives $\mathbf{DM}^{GW}(k)$ and Witt-motives $\mathbf{DM}^W(k)$ by the Voev…
We develop a theory of curved A-infinity-categories around equivalences of their module categories. This allows for a uniform treatment of curved and uncurved A-infinity-categories which generalizes the classical theory of uncurved A-infinity algebras. Furthermore, the theory is sufficiently general to treat both Fukaya categories and categories of matrix factorizations, as well as to provide a context in which unitification and categorification of pre-categories can be carried out. Our theory is built around two functors: the adjoint algebra functor U_e and the functor Q_*. The bulk of the pa…
Let A be a dg category, F:A->A a dg functor inducing an equivalence of categories in degree-zero cohomology, and A/F the associated dg orbit category. For every A1-homotopy invariant (e.g. homotopy K-theory, K-theory with coefficients, etale K-theory and periodic cyclic homology), we construct a distinguished triangle expressing E(A/F) as the cone of the endomorphism E(F)-Id of E(A). In the particular case where F is the identity dg functor, this triangle splits and gives rise to the fundamental theorem. As a first application, we compute the A1-homotopy invariants of cluster (dg) categories, …
Motivated by calculations of motivic homotopy groups, we give widely attained conditions under which operadic algebras and modules thereof are preserved under (co)localization functors
We construct models for the motivic homotopy category based on simplicial functors from smooth schemes over a field to simplicial sets. These spaces are homotopy invariant and therefore one does not have to invert the affine line in order to get a model for the motivic homotopy category.
Given any pointed CW complex (X,x), it is well known that the fondamental group of X pointed at x is naturally isomorphic to the automorphism group of the functor which associates to a locally constant sheaf on X its fibre at x. The purpose of this work is to generalize this fact to higher homotopy. For this we introduce the (infinite) category of locally constant stacks on X, and we prove that the loop-space of endomorphisms of its fibre functor at x is naturally equivalent to the loop space of X based at x.
We introduce the compactness locus of a geometric functor between rigidly-compactly generated tensor-triangulated categories, and describe it for several examples arising in equivariant homotopy theory and algebraic geometry. It is a subset of the tensor-triangular spectrum of the target category which, crudely speaking, measures the failure of the functor to satisfy Grothendieck-Neeman duality (or equivalently, to admit a left adjoint). We prove that any geometric functor --- even one which does not admit a left adjoint --- gives rise to a Wirthmüller isomorphism once one passes to a colocali…
The theory of condensed mathematics by Dustin Clausen and Peter Scholze claims that topological spaces should be replaced by the definition of condensed sets. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate in which way the theory of homotopy groups on topological spaces can be extended to the theory of condensed sets. We show that there exist functors from the category of condensed sets to the category of pro-groups, s.t. restriction to CW-spaces coincides with the ordinary notion of homotopy groups on topological spaces. These functors can be extended to the $\infty$-categories of condensed…
