We obtain fractal Lipschitz-Killing curvature-direction measures for a large class of self-similar sets F in R^d. Such measures jointly describe the distribution of normal vectors and localize curvature by analogues of the higher order mean curvatures of differentiable submanifolds. They decouple as independent products of the unit Hausdorff measure on F and a self-similar fibre measure on the sphere, which can be computed by an integral formula. The corresponding local density approach uses an ergodic dynamical system formed by extending the code space shift by a subgroup of the orthogonal group. We then give a remarkably simple proof for the resulting measure version under minimal assumptions.
We prove the existence of the curvature measures for a class of $\cal U_{\rm WDC}$ sets, which is a direct generalization of $\cal U_{\rm PR}$ sets studied by Rataj and Zähle. Moreover, we provide a simple characterisation of $\cal U_{\rm WDC}$ sets in $\mathbb R^2$ and prove that in $\mathbb R^2$ the class of $\cal U_{\rm WDC}$ sets contains essentially all classes of sets known to admit curvature measures.
We apply the theory of Peres and Schlag to obtain estimates for generic Hausdorff dimension distortion under orthogonal projections on simply connected two dimensional Riemannian manifolds of constant curvature. As a conclusion we obtain appropriate versions of Marstrand theorem, Kaufman's theorem and Falconer's theorem in the above geometrical settings.
This paper aims to give a further study on quasi-convex subsets in Alexandrov spaces with lower curvature bound which are introduced in [SSW]. We first provide new insights on quasi-convex subsets (Theorem A and Corollary C), and then as applications of them we explore more properties of quasi-convex subsets.
We prove that the results regarding the Isoperimetric inequality and Cheeger constant formulated in terms of the Minkowski content, obtained by the authors in previous papers in the framework of essentially non-branching metric measure spaces verifying the local curvature dimension condition, also hold in the stronger formulation in terms of the perimeter.
For a general radially symmetric, non-increasing, non-negative kernel $h\in L ^ 1 _{loc} ( R ^ d)$, we study the rigidity of measurable sets in $R ^ d$ with constant nonlocal $h$-mean curvature. Under a suitable "improved integrability" assumption on $h$, we prove that these sets are finite unions of equal balls, as soon as they satisfy a natural nondegeneracy condition. Both the radius of the balls and their mutual distance can be controlled from below in terms of suitable parameters depending explicitly on the measure of the level sets of $h$. In the simplest, common case, in which $h$ is po…
Homogeneous random fractals form a probabilistic extension of self-similar sets with more dependencies than in random recursive constructions. For such random fractals we consider mean values of the Lipschitz-Killing curvatures of their parallel sets for small parallel radii. Under the Uniform Strong Open Set Condition and some further geometric assumptions we show that rescaled limits of these mean values exist as the parallel radius tends to zero. Moreover, integral representations are derived for these limits which extend those known in the deterministic case.
Given an arbitrary closed set A of $\mathbf{R}^{n}$, we establish the relation between the eigenvalues of the approximate differential of the spherical image map of A and the principal curvatures of A introduced by Hug-Last-Weil, thus extending a well known relation for sets of positive reach by Federer and Zaehle. Then we provide for every $ m = 1, \ldots , n-1 $ an integral representation for the support measure $ μ_{m} $ of A with respect to the m dimensional Hausdoff measure. Moreover a notion of second fundamental form $Q_{A} $ for an arbitrary closed set A is introduced so that the finit…
In this paper we study regularity and topological properties of volume constrained minimizers of quasi-perimeters in $\sf RCD$ spaces where the reference measure is the Hausdorff measure. A quasi-perimeter is a functional given by the sum of the usual perimeter and of a suitable continuous term. In particular, isoperimetric sets are a particular case of our study. We prove that on an ${\sf RCD}(K,N)$ space $({\rm X},{\sf d},\mathcal{H}^N)$, with $K\in\mathbb R$, $N\geq 2$, and a uniform bound from below on the volume of unit balls, volume constrained minimizers of quasi-perimeters are open bou…
In this paper we provide new existence results for isoperimetric sets of large volume in Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature and Euclidean volume growth. We find sufficient conditions for their existence in terms of the geometry at infinity of the manifold. As a byproduct we show that isoperimetric sets of big volume always exist on manifolds with nonnegative sectional curvature and Euclidean volume growth. Our method combines an asymptotic mass decomposition result for minimizing sequences, a sharp isoperimetric inequality on nonsmooth spaces, and the concavity property of t…
We obtain an explicit formula for comparing total curvature of level sets of functions on Riemannian manifolds, and develop some applications of this result to the isoperimetric problem in spaces of nonpositive curvature.
We investigate the box dimensions of compact sets in $\mathbb{R}^2$ that contain a unit distance in every direction (such sets may have zero Hausdorff dimension). Among other results, we show that the lower box dimension must be at least $\frac{4}{7}$ and can be as low as $\frac{2}{3}$. This quantifies in a certain sense how far the unit circle is from being a difference set.
Extending the celebrated results of Alexandrov (1958) and Korevaar-Ros (1988) for smooth sets, as well as the results of Schneider (1979) and the first author (1999) for arbitrary convex bodies, we obtain for the first time the characterization of the isoperimetric sets of a uniformly convex smooth finite-dimensional normed space (i.e. Wulff shapes) in the non-smooth and non-convex setting, based on the natural geometric condition involving the curvature measures. More specifically we show, under a natural mean-convexity assumption, that finite unions of disjoint Wulff shapes are the only sets…
