Driven by the landscape of garden-variety condensed matter systems, we have investigated how the dual spectral function behaves at the non-relativistic as well as relativistic fermionic fixed point by considering the probe Dirac fermion in an extremal charged dilatonic black hole with zero entropy. Although the pattern for both of the appearance of flat band and emergence of Fermi surface is qualitatively similar to that given by the probe fermion in the extremal Reissner-Nordstrom AdS black hole, we find a distinctly different low energy behavior around the Fermi surface, which can be traced back to the different near horizon geometry. In particular, with the peculiar near horizon geometry of our extremal charged dilatonic black hole, the low energy behavior exhibits the universal linear dispersion relation and scaling property, where the former indicates that the dual liquid is a Fermi one while the latter implies that the dual liquid is not exactly of Landau Fermi type.
The number of asymptotically de Sitter (non-singular) solutions of 5d dilatonic gravity with positive cosmological constant is found. These solutions are similar to the previously known asymptotically AdS spaces where dilaton may generate the singularity. Using these solutions the consistent $c$-function is proposed in the same way as in AdS/CFT. The consistency of RG flow gives further support for dS/CFT correspondence. From holographic RG flow equations we calculate the holographic 4d conformal anomaly with dilatonic contributions. This conformal anomaly turns out to be the same as in AdS/CF…
We study certain features of a strongly coupled theory whose gravitational dual is given by two-charge dilatonic black hole in AdS5 which has recently been used to study holographic Fermi liquids. By making use of the gravity description, we have studied conductivity, holographic entanglement entropy and dynamics of a charged scalar field. In particular at low energy we find that the temperature dependence of the real part of the conductivity goes as T^3 and the background is stable against scalar condensations.
Stability of dilatonic AdS spaces due to quantum effects of dilaton coupled conformal matter is considered. When such spaces do not exist on classical level, their dynamical generation occurs. Explicit examples corresponding to quantum creation of d4 dilatonic AdS Universe and of d2 dilatonic AdS Black Hole (BH) are presented. Motivated by holographic RG, in the similar approach the complete d5 effective action is discussed. The intermediate region where it is the sum of two parts: bulk (classical gravity) and boundary quantum action is investigated. The effective equations solution representi…
Recently, the holographic aspects of asymptotically de Sitter spacetimes have generated substantial literary interest. The plot continues in this paper, as we investigate a certain class of dilatonically deformed ``topological'' de Sitter solutions (which were introduced in hep-th/0110234). Although such solutions possess a detrimental cosmological singularity, their interpretation from a holographic perspective remains somewhat unclear. The current focus is on the associated generalized $C$-functions, which are shown to maintain their usual monotonicity properties in spite of this exotic fram…
We present a dilatonic description of the holographic dark energy by connecting the holographic dark energy density with the dilaton scalar field energy density in a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe. We show that this model can describe the observed accelerated expansion of our universe with the choice $c\geq1$ and reconstruct the kinetic term as well as the dynamics of the dilaton scalar field.
We study massive charged fermionic perturbations in the background of a charged two-dimensional dilatonic black hole, and we solve the Dirac equation analytically. Then, we compute the reflection and transmission coefficients and the absorption cross section for massive charged fermionic fields, and we show that the absorption cross section vanishes at the low and high frequency limits. However, there is a range of frequencies where the absorption cross section is not null. Furthermore, we study the effect of the mass and electric charge of the fermionic field over the absorption cross section…
In this note, we study the dipole coupling effect of holographic fermion in a charged dilatonic black hole proposed by Gubser and Rocha (arXiv:0911.2898). It is found that the property of Fermi liquid is rigid under perturbation of dipole coupling, and the Fermi momentum is linearly shifted. A gap is dynamically generated as the coupling becomes large enough and the Fermi surface ceases to exist as the bulk dipole coupling further increases.
We study the properties of the Green's functions of the fermions in the extremal charged dilatonic black hole proposed by Gubser and Rocha [Phys. Rev. D \textbf{81}, 046001 (2010)]. We find that many properties seem to be in agreement with that of Fermi liquid. Especially, the dispersion relation is linear. It is very different from that found in the extremal Reissner-Nordstr$\ddot{o}$m (RN) black hole for massless fermion, which is obviously non-Fermi liquid due to a nonlinear dispersion relation. However, for another scaling behavior of the height of $ImG_{11}$ at the maximum, the scaling ex…
By imposing the relativistic boundary term and Lorentz violating that in the dilatonic black brane with a Lifshitz like IR geometry and $AdS_4$ boundary, we study the properties of the spectral functions of the fermions. We find that in the two fixed points, there are emergent Fermi-surface structures and many properties seem to be in agreement with that of Fermi liquid. Especially, the low energy behavior exhibits a linear dispersion relation. In addition, we also find that a holographic flat band also emerges in this background of the dilatonic black brane.
We prove the equivalence of the SL(2,R)/U(1) Kazama-Suzuki model, which is a fermionic generalization of the 2d Black Hole, and N=2 Liouville theory. We show that this duality is an example of mirror symmetry. The essential part of the derivation is to realize the fermionic 2d Black Hole as the low energy limit of a gauged linear sigma-model. Liouville theory is obtained by dualizing the charged scalar fields and taking into account the vortex-instanton effects, as proposed recently in non-dilatonic models. The gauged linear sigma-model we study has many useful generalizations which we briefly…
Recently quintessence is proposed to explain the observation data of supernova indicating a time-varying cosmological constant and accelerating universe. Inspired by this and its mysterious origin, we look for the possibility of quintessence as the holographic dark matters dominated in the late time in the brane world scenarios. We consider both the cases of static and moving brane in a dilaton gravity background. For the static brane we use the Hamilton-Jacobi method motivated by holographic renormalization group to study the intrinsic FRW cosmology on the brane and find out the constraint on…
The quantumness of Dirac paticles for quantized fields in a dilatonic black hole is estimated by means of quantum channel. We develop a general Bloch vector representation of quantum channel in black hole spacetimes beyond single mode approximation. The nonclassicality of Dirac particles can be measured by the minimization of quantum coherence over all orthonormal basis sets. The quantumness of the channel decreases as the dilaton parameter increases. The interplay between the external reservoir noise and dilaton black hole on the dynamical behavior of quantum coherence and steerability is inv…
Using holographic methods we investigate the behaviour of fermionic spectral functions of strongly coupled 2+1 dimensional field theories as both temperature and chemical potential are quenched.
We review a recent holographic analysis arXiv:1005.4690 of charged black holes with scalar hair in view of their applications to the cuprate high temperature superconductors. We show in particular that these black holes show an interesting phase structure including critical behaviour at zero temperature or charge, describe both conductors and insulators (including holographic Mott-like insulators), generically have no residual entropy and exhibit experimentally observed scaling relations between electronic entropy, specific heat and (linear) DC resistivity. Transport properties are discussed i…
We discuss Holographic Renormalization Group equations in the presence of fermions and form fields in the bulk. The existence of a holographically dual quantum field theory for a given bulk gravity theory imposes consistency conditions on the ranks of the form fields, the fermion - form field couplings, and leads to a novel Ward identity.
We study the ferminoic spectrum with Weyl correction, which exhibits the non-Fermi liquid behavior. Also, we find that both the height of the peak of the fermionic spectrum and the dispersion relation exhibit a nonlinearity with the variety of the Weyl coupling parameter $γ$, which mean that such nonlinearity maybe ascribe to the one of the Maxwell field. Another important property of this system is that for the holographic fermionic system with $γ<0$, the degree of the deviation from Fermi liquid is heavier than that for the one with $γ>0$. It indicates that there is a transition of coupling …
The spectrum of bound states of special strongly coupled confining field theories might include a parametrically light dilaton, associated with the formation of enhanced condensates that break (approximate) scale invariance spontaneously. It has been suggested in the literature that such a state may arise in connection with the theory being close to the unitarity bound in holographic models. We extend these ideas to cases where the background geometry is non-AdS, and the gravity description of the dual confining field theory has a top-down origin in supergravity. We exemplify this programme by…
We show in detail that the entropic force of the static spherically symmetric spacetimes with unusual asymptotics can be calculated through the Verlinde's arguments. We introduce three different holographic screen candidates, which are first employed thoroughly by Myung and Kim [Phys. Rev. D 81, 105012 (2010)] for Schwarzschild black hole solutions, in order to identify the entropic force arising between a charged dilaton black hole and a test particle. The significance of the dilaton parameter on the entropic force is highlighted, and shown graphically.
We investigate bulk and holographic features of finite-temperature black brane solutions of 4D anti-de Sitter Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton-gravity (EMDG). We construct, numerically, black branes endowed with non trivial scalar hairs for broad classes of EMDG. We consider both exponential and power-law forms for the coupling functions, as well as several charge configurations: purely electric, purely magnetic and dyonic solutions. At finite temperature the field theory holographically dual to these black brane solutions has a rich and interesting phenomenology reminiscent of electron motion in meta…
We consider a holographic fermionic system in which the fermions are interacting with a U(1) gauge field in the presence of a dilaton field in a gravity bulk of a charged black hole with hyperscaling violation. Using both analytical and numerical methods, we investigate the properties of the infrared and ultaviolet Green's functions of the holographic fermionic system. Studying the spectral functions of the system, we find that as the hyperscaling violation exponent is varied, the fermionic system possesses Fermi, non-Fermi, marginal-Fermi and log-oscillating liquid phases. Various liquid phas…
We investigate the holographic fermions over a gravitational lattice background with a rather low temperature. Since the rotation symmetry is broken on the plane, the lattice effects change the shape of the Fermi surface within the first Brillouin zone from a circle to an ellipse. When the Fermi surface intersects with the Brillouin zone boundary, the band structure with a band gap is observed through a numerical analysis. We construct a lattice model sourced by a scalar field as well as an ionic lattice model without the scalar field. In both cases we find the similar physical results.
We construct a two-current model. It includes two gauge fields, which introduce the doping effect, and a neutral scalar field. And then we numerically construct an AdS black brane geometry with scalar hair. Over this background, we study the fermionic system with the pseudoscalar Yukawa coupling. Some universal properties from the pseudoscalar Yukawa coupling are revealed. In particular, as the coupling increases, there is a transfer of the spectral weight from the low energy band to the high energy band. The transfer is over low energy scales but not over all energy scales. The peculiar prope…
According to the gauge/gravity duality, the Van der Waals transition of charged AdS black holes in extended phase space is conjectured to be dual to a renormalization group flow on the space of field theories. So exploring the Van der Waals transition is potentially valuable for studying holographic properties of charged black hole thermodynamics. There are different transition behaviors for charged dilatonic AdS black holes in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton (EMD) theory with string-inspired potential with different dilaton coupling constants in diverse dimensions. In this work, we find a special cl…
In this letter, we systematically explore the holographic (non-)relativistic fermionic spectrum without/with dipole coupling dual to Born-Infeld anti-de Sitter (BI-AdS) black hole. For the relativistic fermionic fixed point, this holographic fermionic system exhibits non-Fermi liquid behavior. Also, with the increase of BI parameter $γ$, the non-Fermi liquid becomes even "more non-Fermi". When the dipole coupling term is included, we find that the BI term makes it a lot tougher to form the gap. While for the non-relativistic fermionic system with large dipole coupling in BI-AdS background, wit…
We construct a series of charged dilatonic black holes which share zero entropy in the zero temperature limit using Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton theories. In these black holes, the wave functions and the Green's functions of massless fermions can be solved exactly in terms of special functions in the phase space of $(ω,k)$. We observe that for sufficiently large charge, there are many poles in the Green's function with vanishing $ω$, which strongly signifies that Fermi surfaces exist in these holographic systems. The new distinguishing properties of the Green's function arising in these systems we…
We briefly explain the consistency conditions imposed on the effective holographic theories, which are parameterized by two real exponents $(γ,δ)$ that control the IR dynamics. The general scaling of DC resistivity with temperature at low temperature and AC conductivity at low frequency across the whole $(γ,δ)$ plane are explained. There is a codimension-one region where the DC resistivity is linear in the temperature. For massive carriers, it is shown that when the scalar operator is not the dilaton, the DC resistivity scales as the heat capacity (and entropy) for $(2+1)$-dimensional systems.…
We study the fermionic sector of a probe D8-brane in the supergravity background made of D4-branes compactified on a circle with supersymmetry broken explicitly by the boundary conditions. At low energies the dual field theory is effectively four-dimensional and has proved surprisingly successful in recovering qualitative and quantitative properties of QCD. We investigate fluctuations of the fermionic fields on the probe D8-brane and interpret these as mesinos (fermionic superpartners of mesons). We demonstrate that the masses of these modes are comparable to meson masses and show that their i…
We have studied holographic Wilsonian renormalization group (HWRG) of free massless fermionic fields in AdS space and its stochastic quantization(SQ) by identifying the Euclidean action with its boundary on-shell action. The natural extension of the relation between stochastic 2-point correlation function and double trace coupling obtained from HWRG computation conjectured in arXiv:1209.2242 to fermionic fields is established. We have confirmed that the stochastic 2-point function precisely captures the radial flow of the double trace coupling via this relation.
We use gauge-gravity duality to compute spectral functions of fermionic operators in a strongly-coupled defect field theory in p-wave superfluid states. The field theory is (3+1)-dimensional N=4 supersymmetric SU(Nc) Yang-Mills theory, in the 't Hooft limit and with large coupling, coupled to two massless flavors of (2+1)-dimensional N=4 supersymmetric matter. We show that a sufficiently large chemical potential for a U(1) subgroup of the global SU(2) isospin symmetry triggers a phase transition to a p-wave superfluid state, and in that state we compute spectral functions for the fermionic sup…
We calculate fermionic response in domain wall backgrounds of four-dimensional gauged supergravity interpolating between distinct stable AdS vacua. The backgrounds, found by Bobev et al., are holographically dual to zero-temperature states of ABJM theory at finite density for monopole charge and are similar to zero-temperature limits of holographic superconductors, but with a symmetry-breaking source as well. The condensed scalar mixes charged and neutral fields dual to composite fermionic operators in the Dirac equations. Both gapped and gapless bands of stable quasiparticles are found.
We study a vacuum polarization effect in the background of certain dilatonic extremal black hole, known as the cornucopion. Whenever the charged fermions are of any finite mass, the gravitational backreaction to a generic value of a $CP$ nonconserving vacuum angle $θ$ is shown to be important owing to a vacuum energy density which does not vanish deep inside the cornucopion. When this energy density is positive, this effect creates an extremal horizon at finite physical distance, closing off the infinite neck. We study the geometry near this horizon in some detail and find different physical i…
We study holographic Wilsonian renormalization group flows for bulk spinor fields in AdS. We use this to compute the all-loop beta function for fermionic double trace operators in the dual conformal field theory.
In electronic systems with flat bands, such as twisted bilayer graphene, interaction effects govern the structure of the phase diagram. In this paper, we show that a strongly interacting system featuring fermionic flat bands can be engineered using the holographic duality. In particular, we find that in the holographic nematic phase, two bulk Dirac cones separated in momentum space at low temperature, approach each other as the temperature increases. They eventually collide at a critical temperature yielding a flattened band with a quadratic dispersion. On the other hand, in the symmetric (Lif…
We study fermions in a domain wall backgrounds in five dimensional supergravity, which is similar to zero temperature limit of holographic superconductor. We find the fermionic operators for small charges in the dual four dimensional theory have gapped spectrum.
Electron stars are fluids of charged fermions in Anti-de Sitter spacetime. They are candidate holographic duals for gauge theories at finite charge density and exhibit emergent Lifshitz scaling at low energies. This paper computes in detail the field theory Green's function G^R(w,k) of the gauge-invariant fermionic operators making up the star. The Green's function contains a large number of closely spaced Fermi surfaces, the volumes of which add up to the total charge density in accordance with the Luttinger count. Excitations of the Fermi surfaces are long lived for w <~ k^z. Beyond w ~ k^z …
We study the addition of quantum fermionic impurities to the N=6 supersymmetric Chern-Simons-matter theories in 2+1 spacetime dimensions. The impurities are introduced by means of Wilson loops in the antisymmetric representation of the gauge group. In a holographic setup, the system is represented by considering D6-branes probing the AdS_4 x CP^3 background of type IIA supergravity. We study the thermodynamic properties of the system and show how a Kondo lattice model with holographic dimers can be constructed. By computing the Kaluza-Klein fluctuation modes of the probe brane we determine the…
In this paper, we apply the K-theory scheme of classifying the topological insulators/superconductors to classify the topological classes of the massive multi-flavor fermions in anti-de Sitter (AdS) space. In the context of AdS/CFT correspondence, the multi-flavor fermionic mass matrix is dual to the pattern of operator mixing in the boundary conformal field theory (CFT). Thus, our results classify the possible patterns of operator mixings among fermionic operators in the holographic CFT.
We classify the different phases by the "pole-zero mechanism" for a holographic fermionic system which contains a dipole coupling with strength $p$ on a Q-lattice background. A complete phase structure in $p$ space can be depicted in terms of Fermi liquid, non-Fermi liquid, Mott phase and pseudo-gap phase. In particular, we find that in general the region of the pseudo-gap phase in $p$ space is suppressed when the Q-lattice background is dual to a deep insulating phase, while for an anisotropic background, we have an anisotropic region for the pseudo-gap phase in $p$ space as well. In addition…
We investigate the holographic fermionic phase transition induced by the effective impurity in holography, which is introduced by massless scalar fields in Einstein-Maxwell-massless scalar gravity. We obtain a phase diagram in $(α, T)$ plane separating the Fermi liquid phase and the non-Fermi liquid phase.
We investigate the relations between black hole thermodynamics and holographic transport coefficients in this paper. The formulae for DC conductivity and diffusion coefficient are verified for electrically single-charged black holes. We examine the correctness of the proposed expressions by taking charged dilatonic and single-charged STU black holes as two concrete examples, and compute the flows of conductivity and diffusion coefficient by solving the linear order perturbation equations. We then check the consistence by evaluating the Brown-York tensor at a finite radial position. Finally, we…
Several classes of gravitational backgrounds in $3+1$ dimensions have been proposed as holographic duals to Lifshitz-like theories describing critical phenomena in $2+1$ dimensions with critical exponent $z\geq 1$. We numerically explore one such model, characterized by a temperature $T$ and chemical potential $μ$, and find how to embed these solutions into AdS for a range of values of $z$. We find no phase transition going from the $T\llμ$ to the $T\gg μ$ regimes, and find that the solutions smoothly interpolate between the Lifshitz-like behavior and the relativistic AdS-like behavior. Finall…
We consider a gravitational theory with two Maxwell fields, a dilatonic scalar and spatially dependent axions. Black brane solutions to this theory are Lifshitz-like and violate hyperscaling. Working with electrically charged solutions, we calculate analytically the holographic DC conductivities when both gauge fields are allowed to fluctuate. We discuss some of the subtleties associated with relating the horizon to the boundary data, focusing on the role of Lifshitz asymptotics and the presence of multiple gauge fields. The axionic scalars lead to momentum dissipation in the dual holographic …
We study the holographic dual of a finite density system with both bosonic and fermionic degrees of freedom. There is no evidence for a universal bose-dominated ground state. Instead, depending on the relative conformal weights the preferred groundstate is either pure AdS-Reissner-Nordstrom, a holographic superconductor, an electron star, or a novel mixed state that is best characterized as a hairy electron star.
We study the effects of a non-zero magnetic field on a class of 2+1 dim non-Fermi liquids, recently found in 0903.2477 by considering properties of a fermionic probe in an extremal AdS^4 black hole background. Introducing a similar fermionic probe in a dyonic AdS^4 black hole geometry, we find that the effect of a magnetic field could be incorporated in a rescaling of the probe fermion's charge. From this simple fact, we observe interesting effects like gradual disappearance of the Fermi surface and quasi particle peaks at large magnetic fields and changes in other properties of the system. We…
We construct a holographic model for a fermionic system on Q-lattice and compute the spectral function in the presence of a dipole coupling. Both key features of doped Mott insulators, the dynamical generation of a gap and spectral weight transfer, are observed when adjusting the value of the coupling parameter $p$. Of particular interest is that when the background is in a deep insulating phase, the Mott gap opens much easier with a smaller coupling parameter in comparison with a metallic background. The effects of lattice parameters on the width of the gap $Δ/μ$ are studied and a turning poi…
The holographic principle in the pp-wave limit proposed in our previous works is further confirmed by studying impurity non-preserving processes which contain a fermionic BMN operator with one scalar and one fermion impurities. We show that the previously proposed duality relation between the matrix elements of the three point interaction Hamiltonian in the holographic string field theory and the OPE coefficients in super Yang-Mills theory holds to the leading order in the large $μ$ limit. Operator mixing is required to obtain the BMN operator of definite conformal dimension which corresponds …
We explore five-dimensional ${\cal N}=4$ $SU(2)\times U(1)$ and ${\cal N}=8$ SO(6) gauged supergravities as frameworks for condensed matter applications. These theories contain charged (dilatonic) black holes and 2-forms which have non-trivial quantum numbers with respect to U(1) subgroups of SO(6). A question of interest is whether they also contain black holes with two-form hair with the required asymptotic to give rise to holographic superconductivity. We first consider the ${\cal N}=4$ case, which contains a complex two-form potential $A_{μν}$ which has U(1) charge $\pm 1$. We find that a …
We present a top-down string theory holographic model of strongly interacting relativistic 2+1-dimensional fermions, paying careful attention to the discrete symmetries of parity and time reversal invariance. Our construction is based on probe $D7$-branes in $AdS_5 \times S^5$, stabilized by internal fluxes. We find three solutions, a parity and time reversal invariant conformal field theory which can be viewed as a particular deformation of Coulomb interacting graphene, a parity and time reversal violating but gapless field theory and a system with a parity and time reversal violating charge …
The SYK model is a quantum mechanical model that has been proposed to be holographically dual to a $1+1$-dimensional model of a quantum black hole. An emergent "gravitational" mode of this model is governed by an unusual action that that has been called the Schwarzian action. It governs a reparametrization of a circle. We show that the path integral of the Schwarzian theory is one-loop exact. The argument uses a method of fermionic localization, even though the model itself is purely bosonic.
Motivated by the holographic complexity proposals, in this paper, we investigate the time dependence of the complexity for the Fermionic thermofield double state (TFD) using the Nielsen approach and Fubini-Study (FS) approach separately. In both two approaches, we discuss the results for different reference states: the Dirac vacuum state and the Gaussian state which has no spatial entanglement (NSE). For Dirac vacuum reference state, we find that the complexity by both two approaches is time independent and the circuit complexity shares the same expression for both methods with the $L^2$ norm.…
Robustness of the Luttinger theorem for fermionic liquids is examined in holography. The statement of the Luttinger theorem, the equality between the fermion charge density and the volume enclosed by the Fermi surface, can be mapped to a Gauss's law in the gravity dual, a la Sachdev. We show that various deformations in the gravity dual, such as inclusion of magnetic fields, a parity-violating theta-term, dilatonic deformations, and higher-derivative corrections, do not violate the holographic derivation of the Luttinger theorem, as long as the theory is in a confining phase. Therefore a robus…
In this work we initiate the study of open effective field theories of fermions interacting with holographic baths. As a first step in this direction, we explain how the recently identified holographic Schwinger-Keldysh saddles naturally reproduce the Fermi-Dirac statistics of boundary correlators. We study Dirac fermions propagating in the background of a doubled $AdS_{d+1}$ Schwarzchild blackbrane. We solve for both ingoing (quasi-normal) as well as outgoing (Hawking) modes of the Dirac field in a boundary gradient expansion and compare our findings against exact results in $d=2$. The hologr…
Inspired by the recently discovered non-relativistic fermionic fixed points, we investigate how the presence of bulk dipole coupling modifies the spectral function at one of these novel fixed points. As a result, although the infinite flat band is always visible in the presence of the bulk dipole coupling as well as chemical potential, the band is modified in a remarkable way at small momenta up to the order of magnitude of bulk dipole coupling. On the other hand, like a phoenix, a new Fermi surface sprouts from the formed gap when the bulk dipole coupling is pushed up further such as to overs…
We study holographic entanglement entropy in the background of charged dilatonic black holes which can be viewed as holographic duals of certain finite density states of N=4 super Yang-Mills. These charged black holes are distinguished in that they have vanishing ground state entropy. The entanglement entropy for a slab experiences a second order phase transition as the thickness of the slab is varied, while the entanglement entropy for a sphere is a smooth function of the radius. This suggests that the second scale introduced by the anisotropy of the slab plays an important role in driving th…
The holographic configurations dual to Wilson loops in higher rank representations in the ABJM theory are described by branes with electric flux along their world volumes. In particular, D2 and D6 branes with electric flux play a central role as potential dual to totally symmetric and totally antisymmetric representations, respectively. We compute the spectra of excitations of these brane configurations in both, the bosonic and fermionic sectors. We highlight a number of aspects that distinguish these configurations from their D3 and D5 cousins including new peculiar mixing terms in the fluctu…
In this paper we study non-commutative Yang-Mills theory (NCYM) through its gravity dual. First it is shown that the gravity dual of an NCYM with self-dual $θ$-parameters has a Lagrangian in the form of five-dimensional dilatonic gravity. Then we use the de-Boer-Verlinde-Verlinde formalism for holographic renormalization group flows to calculate the coefficient functions in the Weyl anomaly of the NCYM at low energies under the assumption of potential dominance, and show that the $C$-theorem holds true in the present case.
We study the interface between a fractional topological insulator and an ordinary insulator, both described using holography. By turning on a chemical potential we induce a finite density of matter localized at the interface. These are gapless surface excitations which are expected to have a fermionic character. We study the thermodynamics of the system, finding a symmetry preserving compressible state at low temperatures, whose excitations exhibit hyperscaling violation. These results are consistent with the expectation of gapless fermionic excitations forming a Fermi surface at finite densit…
