The aim of this paper is to investigate the homology groups of mathematical models of concurrency. We study the Baues-Wirsching homology groups of a small category associated with a partial monoid action on a set. We prove that these groups can be reduced to the Leech homology groups of the monoid. For a trace monoid with an action on a set, we will build a cubical complex of free Abelian groups with homology groups isomorphic to the integral homology groups of the action category. It allows us to solve the problem posed by the author in 2004 of the constructing an algorithm for computing homology groups of the CE nets. We describe the algorithm and give examples of calculating the homology groups.
Given a filtration of a commutative monoid $A$ in a symmetric monoidal stable model category $\mathcal{C}$, we construct a spectral sequence analogous to the May spectral sequence whose input is the higher order topological Hochschild homology of the associated graded commutative monoid of $A$, and whose output is the higher order topological Hochschild homology of $A$. We then construct examples of such filtrations and derive some consequences: for example, given a connective commutative graded ring $R$, we get an upper bound on the size of the $THH$-groups of $E_{\infty}$-ring spectra $A$ su…
In this paper, we deal with stable homology computations with twisted coefficients for mapping class groups of surfaces and of 3-manifolds, automorphism groups of free groups with boundaries and automorphism groups of certain right-angled Artin groups. On the one hand, the computations are led using semidirect product structures arising naturally from these groups. On the other hand, we compute the stable homology with twisted coefficients by FI-modules. This notably uses a decomposition result of the stable homology with twisted coefficients for pre-braided monoidal categories proved in this …
We show that an important classical fixed point invariant, the Reidemeister trace, arises as a topological Hochschild homology transfer. This generalizes a corresponding classical result for the Euler characteristic and is a first step in showing the Reidemeister trace is in the image of the cyclotomic trace. The main result follows from developing the relationship between shadows, topological Hochschild homology, and Morita invariance in bicategorical generality.
We answer in the affirmative two conjectures made by Klein and Williams. First, in a range of dimensions, the equivariant Reidemeister trace defines a complete obstruction to removing $n$-periodic points from a self-map $f$. Second, this obstruction defines a class in topological restriction homology. We prove these results using duality and trace for bicategories. This allows for immediate generalizations, including a corresponding theorem for the fiberwise Reidemeister trace.
We define Hochschild and cyclic homologies for bornological coarse spaces: for a fixed field $k$ and group $G$, these are lax symmetric monoidal functors $\mathcal{X}HH_{k}^G$ and $\mathcal{X}HC_{k}^G$ from the category of equivariant bornological coarse spaces $G\mathbf{BornCoarse}$ to the cocomplete stable $\infty$-category of chain complexes $\mathbf{Ch}_\infty$. We relate these equivariant coarse homology theories to coarse algebraic $K$-theory $\mathcal{X} K^G_{k}$ and to coarse ordinary homology $\mathcal{X} H^G$ by constructing a trace-like natural transformation $\mathcal{X} K_{k}^G\to…
Morita introduced in 2008 a 1-cocycle on the group of homology cobordisms of surfaces with values in an infinite-dimensional vector space. His 1-cocycle contains all the "traces" of Johnson homomorphisms which he introduced fifteen years earlier in his study of the mapping class group. In this paper, we propose a new version of Morita's 1-cocycle based on a simple and explicit construction. Our 1-cocycle is proved to satisfy several fundamental properties, including a connection with the Magnus representation and the LMO homomorphism. As an application, we show that the rational abelianization…
Let $M$ be a topological monoid with homotopy group completion $ΩBM$. Under a strong homotopy commutativity hypothesis on $M$, we show that $π_k (ΩBM)$ is the quotient of the monoid of free homotopy classes $[S^k, M]$ by its submonoid of nullhomotopic maps. We give two applications. First, this result gives a concrete description of the Lawson homology of a complex projective variety in terms of point-wise addition of spherical families of effective algebraic cycles. Second, we apply this result to monoids built from the unitary, or general linear, representation spaces of discrete groups, lea…
We show that the characteristic polynomial and the Lefschetz zeta function are manifestations of the trace map from the $K$-theory of endomorphisms to topological restriction homology (TR). Along the way we generalize Lindenstrauss and McCarthy's map from $K$-theory of endomorphisms to topological restriction homology, defining it for any Waldhausen category with a compatible enrichment in orthogonal spectra. In particular, this extends their construction from rings to ring spectra. We also give a revisionist treatment of the original Dennis trace map from $K$-theory to topological Hochschild …
We flesh out the theory of "trace theories" and "trace functors" sketched in arXiv:1308.3743, extend it to a homotopical setting, and prove a reconstruction theorem claiming that a trace theory is completely determined by the associated trace functor. As an application, we consider Topological Hoshschild Homology $THH(A,M)$ of a algebra $A$ over a perfect field of positive characteristic, with coefficients in a bimodule $M$, and prove two comparison results. Firstly, we give a very simple algebraic model for THH in terms of Hochschild-Witt Homology WHH of arXiv:1604.01588 (and we also identify…
