Novel contributions to the total inclusive cross section for Higgs-Strahlung in the Standard Model at hadron colliders are evaluated. Although formally of order $α_s^2$, they have not been taken into account in previous NNLO predictions. The terms under consideration are induced by Higgs radiation off top-quark loops and thus proportional to the top-quark Yukawa coupling. At the Tevatron, their effects to HW production are below 1% in the relevant Higgs mass range, while for HZ production, we find corrections between about 1% and 2%. At the LHC, the contribution of the newly evaluated terms to the cross section is typically of the order of 1%-3%. Based on these results, we provide updated predictions for the total inclusive Higgs-Strahlung cross section at the Tevatron and the LHC.
We implement, at next-to-next-to-leading order, the QCD corrections to Standard Model Higgs boson production in association with vector bosons at hadron colliders, $q\bar{q} \to HV$ with $V=W,Z$. They consist of the two--loop corrections to the Drell--Yan process for the production of off-shell vector bosons, $q\bar{q} \to V^*$, and in the case of $Z$ final states, of the additional contribution from heavy-quark loop mediated processes, in particular $gg \to HZ$. For the Higgs boson masses relevant at the Tevatron and the LHC, $M_H \lsim 200$--300 GeV, the two-loop corrections are small, incre…
Introducing version 2 of the code vh@nnlo, we study the effects of a number of new-physics scenarios on the Higgs-Strahlung process. In particular, the cross section is evaluated within a general 2HDM and the MSSM. While the Drell-Yan-like contributions are consistently taken into account by a simple rescaling of the SM result, the gluon-initiated contribution is supplemented by squark-loop mediated amplitudes, and by the $s$-channel exchange of additional scalars which may lead to conspicuous interference effects. The latter holds as well for bottom-quark initiated Higgs Strahlung, which is a…
Recently we have proposed a simple hadronic axion model within gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking. In this paper we discuss various cosmological consequences of the model in great detail. A particular attention is paid to a saxion, a scalar partner of an axion, which is produced as a coherent oscillation in the early universe. We show that our model is cosmologically viable, if the reheating temperature of inflation is sufficiently low. We also discuss the late decay of the saxion which gives a preferable power spectrum of the density fluctuation in the standard cold dark matter model when …
We present a study of the Higgs boson decay branching ratios to $b\bar{b}$, $c\bar{c}$ and gluons, one of the cornerstones of the physics program at the International Linear Collider (ILC). A standard model Higgs boson of 120\,GeV mass, produced in the Higgs-strahlung process at $\sqrt{s} = 250$\,GeV was investigated using the full detector simulation and reconstruction procedures. The analysis was performed in the framework of the Silicon Detector (SiD) concept with full account of inclusive standard model backgrounds. The selected decay modes contained two heavy flavour jets in the final sta…
A simple hadronic axion model is proposed in the framework of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking. Dynamics of Peccei-Quinn symmetry breaking is governed by supersymmetry breaking effects and the Peccei-Quinn breaking scale $f_{PQ}$ is inversely proportional to the gravitino mass. The gravitino mass range which corresponds to the axion window $f_{PQ} \simeq 10^{9}$ GeV -- $10^{13}$ GeV lies in the region predicted by gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking models. The model is also shown to be cosmologically viable.
We compute four-loop corrections to the hadronic decay of the Standard Model Higgs boson which are induced by effective couplings to bottom quarks and gluons, mediated by the top quark. Our numerical results are comparable in size to the purely massless contributions which have been known for a few years. The results presented in this paper complete the order $α_s^4$ corrections to the hadronic Higgs boson decay.
We compute the electroweak (EW) contributions to squark--squark pair production processes at the LHC within the framework of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). Both tree-level EW contributions, of O(alpha_s alpha + alpha^2), and next-to-leading order (NLO) EW corrections, of O(alpha_s^2 alpha), are calculated. Depending on the flavor and chirality of the produced quarks, many interferences between EW-mediated and QCD-mediated diagrams give non-zero contributions at tree-level and NLO. We discuss the computational techniques and present an extensive numerical analysis for inclusi…
We study the impact of the inverse seesaw mechanism on several leptonic and hadronic low-energy flavour-violating observables in the context of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. Indeed, the contributions of the light right-handed sneutrinos from the inverse seesaw significantly enhance the Higgs-mediated penguin diagrams. We find that this can increase the different branching ratios by as much as two orders of magnitude.
We compute corrections to the decay of the Standard Model Higgs boson to hadrons, to the fourth order in the strong coupling constant $α_s$. We use an effective theory in which the Higgs boson couples directly to bottom quarks and to gluons, via top quark--mediated effective couplings. Numerically, our results are of a comparable size to the previously-known "massless" contributions and complete the order $α_s^4$ corrections to the hadronic decay of the Higgs boson. In these proceedings we also provide an independent cross check of the gluonic Higgs boson decay at order $α_s^5$.
We present in analytic form the O(alpha_s^5) correction to the H->gg partial width of the standard-model Higgs boson with intermediate mass M_H<2M_t. Its knowledge is useful because the O(alpha_s^4) correction is sizeable (around 20%). For M_H=120 GeV, the resulting QCD correction factor reads 1 + (215/12) alpha_s^(5)(M_H)/pi + 152.5 (alpha_s^(5)(M_H)/pi)^2 + 381.5 (alpha_s^(5)(M_H)/pi)^3 \approx 1+0.65+0.20+0.02. The new four-loop correction increases the total Higgs-boson hadronic width by a small amount of order 1 promille and stabilizes significantly the residual scale dependence.
It has been pointed out recently that current low-energy constraints still allow for sizable flavor-changing decay rates of the 125 GeV boson into leptons, h -> tau ell (ell= e, mu). In this work we discuss the role of hadronic tau-lepton decays in probing lepton flavor violating couplings in the Higgs sector. At low energy, the effective Higgs coupling to gluons induced by heavy quarks contributes to hadronic tau decays, establishing a direct connection with the relevant process at the LHC, pp (gg)-> h -> tau ell. Semileptonic transitions like tau -> ell pi pi are sensitive to flavor-changing…
The cross section of the diffractive Drell-Yan (DY) process, pp->(l-lbar X)p, where the system (l-lbar X) is separated by a large rapidity gap from the recoil proton, is calculated in the light-cone dipole approach. This process reveals unusual features, quite different from what is known for diffractive DIS and nonabelian radiation: (i) the diffractive radiation of a heavy dilepton by a quark vanishes in the forward direction; (ii) the diffractive production of a dilepton is controlled by the large hadronic radius; (iii) in contrast with DIS where diffraction is predominantly soft, the diffra…
Experimental results on hadronic soft and hard diffractive processes are reviewed with emphasis on aspects of the data that point to the underlying QCD mechanism for diffraction. Diffractive differential cross sections are shown to be factorized into two terms, one representing the total cross section at the reduced energy, corresponding to the rapidity region(s) in which there is particle production, and another interpreted as the probability of formation of the rapidity gap(s) characterizing diffraction. By (re)normalizing the term of gap formation probability to unity, cross sections for si…
Flavor-changing terms with CP-violating phases in the quark sector may contribute to the hadronic electric dipole moments (EDMs). However, within the Standard Model (SM), the source of CP violation comes from the unique CKM phase, and it turns out that the EDMs are strongly suppressed. This implies that the EDMs are very sensitive to non-minimal flavor violation structures of theories beyond the SM. In this paper, we discuss the quark EDMs and CEDMs (chromoelectric dipole moments) in the MSSM with general flavor-changing terms in the squark mass matrices. In particular, the charged-Higgs media…
We perform an analytic calculation of the one-loop amplitude for the W-boson mediated process 0 \to d u-bar Q Q-bar l-bar l, retaining the mass for the quark Q. The momentum of each of the massive quarks is expressed as the sum of two massless momenta and the corresponding heavy quark spinor is expressed as a sum of two massless spinors. Using a special choice for the heavy quark spinors we obtain analytic expressions for the one-loop amplitudes which are amenable to fast numerical evaluation. The full next-to-leading order (NLO) calculation of hadron+hadron \to W(\to e nu) b b-bar with massiv…
We calculate the inclusive branching ratio for B--> X_s gamma, the inclusive branching ratios and asymmetries for B--> X_s l+ l- and the anomalous magnetic moment g-2 of the muon, within a minimal gauge-mediated SUSY-breaking model which naturally generates a large ratio tan(beta) of Higgs field vacuum expectation values. These predictions are highly correlated with each other, depending on only two fundamental parameters: the superpartner mass scale and the logarithm of a common messenger mass. The predictions for B--> X_s gamma decay and g-2 are in somewhat better agreement with current expe…
The SM predictions for CP violating effects in D meson systems are highly suppressed at the per mill level. Therefore, any experimental evidence for a sizable CP violation in D0-D0bar mixing would unambiguously point towards a New Physics (NP) signal. Within supersymmetric scenarios, the popular alignment models can naturally account for large, non-standard effects in D0-D0bar mixing. We demonstrate that, within alignment models, detectable CP violating effects in D0-D0bar mixing would unambiguously imply a lower bound for the electric dipole moment (EDM) of hadronic systems, like the neutron …
We study the quasi-two-body $D\to SP$ decays and the three-body $D$ decays proceeding through intermediate scalar resonances, where $S$ and $P$ denote scalar and pseudoscalar mesons, respectively. Our main results are: (i) Certain external and internal $W$-emission diagrams with the emitted meson being a scalar meson are na{ï}vely expected to vanish, but they actually receive contributions from vertex and hard spectator-scattering corrections beyond the factorization approximation. (ii) For light scalars with masses below or close to 1~GeV, it is more sensible to study three-body decays direct…
In this paper, we investigate $τ^- \to e^-(μ^-) K\bar{K}(K\bar{K}=K ^+K^-,K^0\bar{K}^0)$ decays in the framework of the RPV SUSY model. We discuss the tree level contribution of the sparticles $\tildeν$ and $\tilde{u}$ to these decay branching ratios. In the two channels, the $\tildeν$-mediated channel is more sensitive to the parameter product $|λ^{'*}_{i22}λ_{i31(2)}|$ than the $\tilde{u}$-mediated channel to $|λ^{'*}_{1(2)j2}λ'_{3j2}|$. And the parameter product $|λ^{'*}_{i22}λ_{i31(2)}|$ is severely constrained to the order of ${\cal O}(10^{-5})$ by the experiment data with $m_{\tildeν}=10…
One of the remarkable features of high-multiplicity hadronic events in proton-proton collisions at the LHC is the fact that the produced particles appear as two "ridges", opposite in azimuthal angle $ϕ$, with approximately flat rapidity distributions. This phenomena can be identified with the inelastic collision of gluonic flux tubes associated with the QCD interactions responsible for quark confinement in hadrons. In this paper we analyze the ridge phenomena when the collision involves a flux tube connecting the quark and antiquark of a high energy real or virtual photon. We discuss gluonic t…
We have studied the neutral Higgs boson (NHB) contributions to the pure penguin process $B\to ϕK_S$ in MSSM with middle and large $\tanβ$ (say, $>$ 8). We show that the $α_s$ order hadronic matrix elements of NHB induced operators can make sizable effects on both the branch ratio and time dependent CP asymmetry $S_{ϕK}$. Under the all relevant experimental constraints, the Higgs mediated contributions to $S_{ϕK}$ alone can provide a significant deviation from SM and, in particular, lead to a negative $S_{ϕK}$ which is reported by BaBar and Belle.
In heavy ion collisions after the quark-gluon plasma there is a hadronic gas phase. Using effective Lagrangians we study the interactions of charmed mesons which lead to $J/ψ$ production and absorption in this gas. We update and extend previous calculations introducing strange meson interactions and also including the interactions mediated by the recently measured exotic charmonium resonances $Z(3900)$ and $Z(4025)$. These resonances open new reaction channels for the $J/ψ$, which could potentially lead to changes in its multiplicity. We compute the $J/ψ$ production cross section in processes …
The penguin mediated processes $b\rightarrow s g$ and $b\rightarrow s l^+l^-$ are studied. In the Standard Model, for the leptonic modes improvement in experimental limits will put strigient bounds on the top mass, where the present limit from $b\rightarrow s μ^+μ^-$ is 390 GeV. For hadronic penguin processes, although the gluonic penguin dominates, we find the electroweak contribution are around 30\% for the upper range allowed top mass. The branching ratio for $B\rightarrow X_s ϕ$ is predicted to be in the range $(0.6\sim 2)\times 10^{-4}$. Effects of the charged Higgs in two Higgs doublet m…
Cross sections for photon production in hadronic scattering processes have been calculated according to an effective chiral field theory. For $π+ ρ\to π+ γ$ and $π+ π\to ρ+ γ$ processes, these cross sections have been implemented into a novel hadronic transport approach (SMASH), which is suitable for collisions at low and intermediate energies. The implementation is verified by systematically comparing the thermal photon rate to theoretical expectations. The photon rates we obtain are compared to previous works, where scattering processes mediated by $ω$ mesons are found to contribute signific…

In high energy hadronic collisions a scalar or pseudoscalar Higgs boson, Phi=H,A, can be efficiently produced via gluon fusion, which is mediated by heavy quark loops. We here consider double real emission corrections to Phi=A production, which lead to a Higgs plus two-jet final state, at order alpha_s^4. Full quark mass effects are considered in the calculation of scattering amplitudes for the CP-odd Higgs boson A, as induced by quark triangle-, box- and pentagon-diagrams. They complement the analogous results for a CP-even Higgs boson H in Ref.[1]. Interference effects between loops with top…
In high energy hadronic collisions, a general CP-violating Higgs boson $Φ$ with accompanying jets can be efficiently produced via gluon fusion, which is mediated by heavy quark loops. In this letter we study the dominant sub-channel $ gg \to Φggg$ of the gluon fusion production process with triple real emission corrections at order $α_s^5$. We go beyond the heavy top limit approximation and include the full mass dependence of the top- and bottom-quark contributions. Furthermore, we show within a toy-model scenario that bottom-quark loop contributions in combination with large values of $\tan β…
The physics of neutrino-nucleus cross sections is a critical probe of the Standard Model and beyond. A precise understanding is also needed to accurately deduce astrophysical neutrino spectra. At energies above $\sim 5$ GeV, the cross section is dominated by deep inelastic scattering, mediated by weak bosons. In addition, there are subdominant processes where the hadronic coupling is through virtual photons, $γ^\ast$: (on-shell) $W$-boson production (e.g., where the underlying interaction is $ν_\ell + γ^\ast \rightarrow \ell^- + W^+$) and trident production (e.g., where it is $ν+ γ^\ast \right…
We calculate coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering cross sections on spin-0 nuclei (e.g. $^{40}$Ar and $^{28}$Si) at energies below 100 MeV within the Standard Model and account for all effects of permille size. We provide a complete error budget including uncertainties at nuclear, nucleon, hadronic, and quark levels separately as well as perturbative error. Our calculation starts from the four-fermion effective field theory to explicitly separate heavy-particle mediated corrections (which are absorbed by Wilson coefficients) from light-particle contributions. Electrons and muons runnin…
Using the similarity between spacetime torsion and axial gauge couplings, we study torsional contributions to the equilibrium partition function in a stationary background. In the case of a charged fluid minimally coupled to torsion, we spot the existence of linear torsional magnetic and vortical effects, while the axial-vector current and the spin energy potential do not receive corrections in the torsion at linear order. The covariant energy-momentum tensor, on the other hand, does contain terms linear in the torsion tensor. The case of a two-flavor hadronic superfluid is also analyzed, and …
