The Fermilab Lattice-MILC collaboration is completing a comprehensive program of heavy-light physics on the MILC (2+1)-flavor asqtad ensembles with lattice spacings as small as 0.045 fm and light-to-strange-quark mass ratios as low as 1/20. We use the Fermilab interpretation of the clover action for heavy valence quarks and the asqtad action for light valence quarks. The central goal of the program is to provide ever more exacting tests of the unitarity of the CKM matrix. We give a progress report on one part of the program, namely the analysis of the semileptonic decay B to D at both zero and nonzero recoil. Although final results are not presented, we discuss improvements in the analysis methods, the statistical errors, and the parameter coverage that we expect will lead to a significant reduction in the final error for |V_cb| from this decay channel.
We report on exploratory studies of heavy-light meson semileptonic decays using Asqtad light quarks, NRQCD heavy quarks and Symanzik improved glue on coarse quenched lattices. Oscillatory contributions to three-point correlators coming from the staggered light quarks are found to be handled well by Bayesian fitting methods. B meson decays to both the Goldstone pion and to one of the point-split non-Goldstone pions are investigated. One-loop perturbative matching of NRQCD/Asqtad heavy-light currents is incorporated.
We have analyzed the semileptonic decays $B\rightarrow D\ellν$ and $B\rightarrow D^*\ellν$ on the full suite of MILC (2+1)-flavor asqtad ensembles with lattice spacings as small as 0.045 fm and light-to-strange-quark mass ratios as low as 1/20. We use the Fermilab interpretation of the clover action for heavy valence quarks and the asqtad action for light valence quarks. We compute the hadronic form factors for $B\rightarrow D$ at both zero and nonzero recoil and for $B\rightarrow D^*$ at zero recoil. We report our results for $|V_{cb}|$.
We explore the possibility of studying $B\toπlν$ semileptonic decays at large recoil momentum. Our methods include the use of a random-wall source for the pion to reduce statistical errors, and different smearing functions are used for the B meson to improve the overlap with the ground state. We observe, in general, a factor of 3-4 improvement in the signal-to-noise ratio in correlation functions if random-wall propagators are used.

We use the Fermilab interpretation of the clover action for heavy valence quarks and the asqtad action for the light valence quarks. The central goal of the program is to provide ever more exacting tests of the unitarity of the CKM matrix. We calculate the form factors for the semileptonic decays of heavy-light pseudoscalar mesons in partially quenched staggered chiral perturbation theory (\schpt), working to leading order in $1/m_Q$, where $m_Q$ is the heavy quark mass. We take the light meson in the final state to be a pseudoscalar corresponding to the exact chiral symmetry of staggered quarks. The treatment assumes the validity of the standard prescription for representing the staggered ``fourth root trick'' within \schpt by insertions of factors of 1/4 for each sea quark loop. Our calculation is based on an existing partiall…
By combining experimentally measured partial branching fractions for the semileptonic decays D to K l nu and D to pi l nu with lattice calculations of the form factors f_+^{D to K}(q^2) and f_+^{D to pi}(q^2), one can extract the CKM matrix elements |V_{cs}| and |V_{cd}|. We are calculating the form factors by using Fermilab charm and asqtad staggered light and strange quarks on 2+1 flavor asqtad staggered ensembles generated by the MILC Collaboration. We vary the light valence quark masses from 0.4m_s to 0.05m_s (m_s is the strange sea-quark mass), and the lattice spacings, from about 0.12 fm…
We present an update of the Fermilab Lattice and MILC Collaborations project to compute the form factors for semileptonic $B_{(s)}$-meson decays. Our calculation uses the highly improved staggered quark (HISQ) action for sea and valence quarks, and ensembles with up, down, strange, and charm quarks in the sea. Using a highly improved action with the MILC Collaboration's gauge ensembles with lattice spacings down to $a\approx0.03$ fm, allows the heavy valence quarks to be treated with the same discretization as the light and strange quarks. This unified treatment of the valence quarks allows fo…
We present results for $B_{(s)}$- and $D_{(s)}$-meson semileptonic decays from ongoing calculations by the Fermilab Lattice and MILC Collaborations. Our calculation employs the highly improved staggered quark (HISQ) action for both sea and valence quarks and includes several ensembles with physical-mass up, down, strange, and charm quarks and lattice spacings ranging from $a\approx0.15$ fm down to 0.06 fm. At most lattice spacings, an ensemble with physical-mass light quarks is included. The use of the highly improved action, combined with the MILC Collaboration's gauge ensembles with lattice …
The determination of $\vert V_{us}\vert$ from kaon semileptonic decays requires the value of the form factor $f_+(q^2=0)$, which can be calculated precisely on the lattice. We provide the one-loop partially quenched staggered chiral perturbation theory expressions that may be employed to analyze staggered simulations of $f_+(q^2)$ with three light flavors. We consider both the case of a mixed action, where the valence and sea sectors have different staggered actions, and the standard case where these actions are the same. The momentum transfer $q^2$ of the form factor is allowed to have an arb…
We present nearly final results from our analysis of the form factors for $B\to D^\ast\ellν$ decay at nonzero recoil. Our analysis includes 15 MILC asqtad ensembles with $N_f=2+1$ flavors of sea quarks and lattice spacings ranging from $a\approx0.15$ fm down to $0.045$ fm. The valence light quarks employ the asqtad action, whereas the $b$ and $c$ quarks are treated using the Fermilab action. We discuss the impact that our results will have on $\ |V_{cb}\ |$ and $R(D^\ast)$.
Heavy-meson semileptonic decays calculations on the lattice are reviewed. The focus is upon obtaining reliable matrix elements. Errors that depend upon the lattice spacing, $a$, are an important source of systematic error. Full $O(a)$ improvement of matrix elements for arbitrary-mass four-component quarks is discussed. With improvement, bottom-quark matrix elements can be calculated directly using current lattices. Momentum dependent errors for $O(a)$-improved quarks and statistical noise limit momenta to around 1 GeV/c with current lattices. Hence, maximum recoil momenta can be reached for $D…
We report on progress of a lattice QCD calculation of the $B\to Dlν$ and $B_s\to D_s lν$ semileptonic form factors. We use a relativistic staggered action (HISQ) for light and charm quarks, and an improved non-relativistic (NRQCD) action for bottom, on the second generation MILC ensembles.
We present a lattice QCD calculation of $B\to πl ν$ semileptonic decay form factors in the small pion recoil momentum region. The calculation is performed on a quenched $16^3 \times 48$ lattice at $β=5.9$ with the NRQCD action including the full 1/M terms. The form factors $f_1(v\cdot k_π)$ and $f_2(v\cdot k_π)$ defined in the heavy quark effective theory for which the heavy quark scaling is manifest are adpoted, and we find that the 1/M correction to the scaling is small for the $B$ meson. The dependence of form factors on the light quark mass and on the recoil energy is found to be mild, and…
We are studying a variety of semileptonic decays of heavy-light mesons in an effort to improve the determination of the heavy-quark Standard-Model CKM matrix elements. Our fermion action is a novel, improved ``fat'' clover action that promises to reduce problems with exceptional configurations. Dynamical sea quarks are included in a mixed approach, i.e. we use staggered sea quarks and fat-clover valence quarks. Here we report preliminary results.
Using staggered fermions and twisted boundary conditions, we calculate the K meson semileptonic decay vector form factor at zero momentum transfer. The HISQ formulation is used for the valence quarks, while the sea quarks are simulated with the asqtad action (MILC N_f=2+1 configurations). For the chiral and continuum extrapolation we use two-loop continuum CHPT, supplemented by partially quenched staggered CHPT at one loop. Our result is f_+^{Kπ}(0) = 0.9667+-0.0023+-0.0033, where the first error is statistical and the second is the sum in quadrature of the systematic uncertainties. This resul…
We present our preliminary results for semileptonic form factors of $D$ mesons in unquenched lattice QCD. Simulations are carried out with $n_f=2+1$ dynamical quarks using gauge configurations generated by the MILC collaboration. For the valence quarks, we adopt an improved staggered light quark action and the clover heavy quark action. Our results for $D \to K$ and $D \to π$ form factors at $q^2=0$ are in agreement with the experimental values.
We obtain form factors relevant for semileptonic $B\to D$ and $B\to D^*$ decays from a quenched lattice QCD calculation. Our results enable us to test Heavy-Quark Symmetry, determine the Isgur-Wise function as well as obtain the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix element $V_{cb}$ from a measurement, by the CLEO collaboration, of the differential decay rate for semileptonic $B\to D^*$ decays. We find that the Isgur-Wise function has a slope of $-(0.9\er{4}{4})$ at zero recoil and that $|V_{cb}|K(1)=0.037\er{1}{1}\er{4}{2}\; (0.99/(1+\b_{A_1}(1)))$, where the first set of errors is due to ex…
We present the status of our ongoing calculation of the zero-recoil form factor for the semileptonic decay $\bar{B}^0\rightarrow D^{*+}l^-\barν$ using lattice QCD with 2+1+1 flavours of highly improved staggered quarks in the sea (the MILC HISQ configurations) and using non-relativistic QCD for the bottom quark. We combine our result for $ F(1)$ with the latest HFAG average of $η_{EW} F(1)|V_{cb}|$ to get a preliminary value for $|V_{cb}|$.
We study the $B \to Kl^+l^-$ semileptonic decay process in three-flavor lattice QCD. We analyze several ensembles generated by the MILC collaboration at different lattice spacings and sea-quark masses. We use the asqtad improved staggered action for the light quarks and the clover action with the Fermilab interpretation for the heavy $b$ quark. We present preliminary results for the vector current induced form factors for a range of kaon energies. Our analysis includes chiral and continuum extrapolations based on SU(2) staggered χPT.

We determine the complete set of axial and vector form factors for the Ds to ϕlν decay from full lattice QCD for the first time. The valence quarks are implemented using the Highly Improved Staggered Quark action and we normalise the appropriate axial and vector currents fully nonperturbatively. The q^2 and angular distributions we obtain for the differential rate agree well with those from the BaBar experiment and, from the total branching fraction, we obtain Vcs = 1.017(63), in good agreement with that from D to Klν semileptonic decay. We also find the mass and decay constant of the ϕ meson …
The measured partial widths of the semileptonic decays D to K l nu and D to pi l nu can be combined with the form factors calculated on the lattice to extract the CKM matrix elements |V_cs| and |V_cd|. The lattice calculations can be checked by comparing the form factor shapes from the lattice and experiment. We have generated a sizable data set by using heavy clover quarks with the Fermilab interpretation for charm and asqtad staggered light quarks on 2+1 flavor MILC ensembles with lattice spacings of approximately 0.12, 0.09, 0.06, and 0.045 fm. Preliminary fits to staggered chiral perturbat…
We calculate form factors relevant for rare B decays using moving-NRQCD for the b quark and the AsqTad action for the light quarks. Moving NRQCD allows us to work directly with the physical b quark mass and go to higher recoil momentum compared to standard NRQCD. Here, we show first results for the matrix elements and the operator matching coefficients. Some difficulties and possible ways of improvement are discussed.
We present the first unquenched lattice-QCD calculation of the hadronic form factors for the exclusive decay $\overline{B} \rightarrow D \ell \overlineν$ at nonzero recoil. We carry out numerical simulations on fourteen ensembles of gauge-field configurations generated with 2+1 flavors of asqtad-improved staggered sea quarks. The ensembles encompass a wide range of lattice spacings (approximately 0.045 to 0.12 fm) and ratios of light (up and down) to strange sea-quark masses ranging from 0.05 to 0.4. For the $b$ and $c$ valence quarks we use improved Wilson fermions with the Fermilab interpret…
We present results for form factors of semileptonic decays of $D$ and $B$ mesons in 2+1 flavor lattice QCD using the MILC gauge configurations. With an improved staggered action for light quarks, we successfully reduce the systematic error from the chiral extrapolation. The results for $D$ decays are in agreement with experimental ones. The results for B decays are preliminary. Combining our results with experimental branching ratios, we then obtain the CKM matrix elements $|V_{cd}|$, $|V_{cs}|$, $|V_{cb}|$ and $|V_{ub}|$. We also check CKM unitarity, for the first time, using only lattice QCD…
We present a calculation of the $D\to K \ell ν$ and $D\toπ\ell ν$ semileptonic form factors at $q^2=0$, which enable determinations of the CKM matrix elements $\lvert{V_{cs}}\rvert$ and $\lvert{V_{cd}}\rvert$, respectively. We use gauge-field configurations generated by the MILC collaboration with four flavors of highly-improved staggered (HISQ) quarks, analyzing several ensembles including those with physical pion masses and approximate lattice spacings ranging from 0.12~fm to 0.042~fm. We also use the HISQ action for the valence quarks. We employ twisted boundary conditions to calculate the …
We present an update of our calculation of the form factor for B -> D* l nu at zero recoil, with higher statistics and finer lattices. As before, we use the Fermilab action for b and c quarks, the asqtad staggered action for light valence quarks, and the MILC ensembles for gluons and light quarks (Lüscher-Weisz married to 2+1 rooted staggered sea quarks). In this update, we have reduced the total uncertainty on F(1) from 2.6% to 1.7%. At Lattice2010 we presented a still-blinded result, but this writeup includes the unblinded result from the September 2010 CKM workshop.
We report on the status of the Fermilab-MILC calculation of the form factor f_+^{K pi}(0), needed to extract the CKM matrix element |V_{us}| from experimental data on K semileptonic decays. The HISQ formulation is used in the simulations for the valence quarks, while the sea quarks are simulated with the asqtad action (MILC N_f=2+1 configurations). We discuss the general methodology of the calculation, including the use of twisted boundary conditions to get values of the momentum transfer close to zero and the different techniques applied for the correlators fits. We present initial results fo…
The experimentally measured rates of the semileptonic decays K -> pi l nu and D -> K(pi) l nu can be combined with lattice calculations of the associated form factors to precisely extract the CKM matrix elements |V_{us}| and |V_{cs(d)}|. We report on the status of form factor calculations with Fermilab charm quarks and staggered light quarks on the 2+1 flavor asqtad staggered MILC ensembles. Analysis of data for the D -> pi l nu form factor provides a nontrivial test of our methods via comparison with CLEO data. We discuss the use of HISQ valence quarks to calculate the K -> pi l nu form facto…
We report on the status of our kaon semileptonic form factor calculations using the highly-improved staggered quark (HISQ) formulation to simulate the valence fermions. We present results for the form factor f_+^{K π}(0) on the asqtad N_f=2+1 MILC configurations, discuss the chiral-continuum extrapolation, and give a preliminary estimate of the total error. We also present a more preliminary set of results for the same form factor but with the sea quarks also simulated with the HISQ action; these results include data at the physical light quark masses. The improvements that we expect to achiev…
We present a (2+1)-flavor lattice QCD calculation of the form factor ratio between the semileptonic decays $\bar{B}^0_s \to D^+_sl^-\barν $ and $\bar{B}^0 \to D^+l^-\barν $. This ratio is an important theoretical input to the hadronic determination of the $B$ meson fragmentation fraction ratio $f_s/f_d$ which enters in the measurement of $\mathrm{BR}(B^0_s\to μ^+μ^-)$. Small lattice spacings and high statistics enable us to simulate the decays with a dynamic final $D$ meson of small momentum and reliably extract the hadronic matrix elements at nonzero recoil. We report our preliminary result f…
We calculate the B -> D and B -> D* form factors at zero recoil in Staggered Chiral Perturbation Theory. We consider heavy-light mesons in which only the light (u, d, or s) quark is staggered; current lattice simulations generally use a highly improved action such as the Fermilab or NRQCD action for the heavy (b or c) quark. We work to lowest nontrivial order in the heavy quark expansion and to one-loop in the chiral expansion. We present results for a partially quenched theory with three sea quarks in which there are no mass degeneracies (the "1+1+1" theory) and for a partially quenched theor…
We present the first preliminary results for the semileptonic form factor $h_{A_1}(w=1)/ρ_{A_j}$ at zero recoil for the $\bar B \rightarrow D^\ast \ell \bar ν$ decay using lattice QCD with four flavors of sea quarks. We use the HISQ staggered action for the light valence and sea quarks (the MILC HISQ configurations), and the Oktay-Kronfeld (OK) action for the heavy valence quarks.
We present a new and very high statistics study of D and D_s semileptonic decay form factors on the lattice. We work with MILC N_f=2+1 lattices and use the Highly Improved Staggered Action (HISQ) for both the charm and the light valence quarks. We use both scalar and vector currents to determine the form factors f_0(q^2) and f_+(q^2) for a range of D and D_s form factors including those for D to pi and D to K semileptonic decays. By using a phased boundary condition we are able to tune accurately to q^2=0. We also compare the shape in q^2 to that from experiment. We show that the form factors …
The MILC collaboration has been performing realistic simulations of full QCD with 2+1 flavors of improved staggered quarks. Our simulations allow for controlled continuum and chiral extrapolations. I present results for the light pseudoscalar sector: masses and decay constants, quark masses and Gasser-Leutwyler low-energy constants. In addition I will present some results for heavy-light mesons, decay constants and semileptonic form factors, obtained in collaboration with the HPQCD and Fermilab lattice collaborations. Such calculations will help in the extraction of CKM matrix elements from ex…
We compute the decays ${B\to D^\ast_0}$ and ${B\to D^\ast_2}$ with finite masses for the $b$ and $c$ quarks. We first discuss the spectral properties of both the $B$ meson as a function of its momentum and of the $D^\ast_0$ and $D^\ast_2$ at rest. We compute the theoretical formulae leading to the decay amplitudes from the three-point and two-point correlators. We then compute the amplitudes at zero recoil of ${B\to D^\ast_0}$ which turns out not to be vanishing contrary to what happens in the heavy quark limit. This opens a possibility to get a better agreement with experiment. To improve the…
We present the first unquenched lattice-QCD calculation of the form factors for the decay $B\rightarrow D^\ast\ellν$ at nonzero recoil. Our analysis includes 15 MILC ensembles with $N_f=2+1$ flavors of asqtad sea quarks, with a strange quark mass close to its physical mass. The lattice spacings range from $a\approx 0.15$ fm down to $0.045$ fm, while the ratio between the light- and the strange-quark masses ranges from 0.05 to 0.4. The valence $b$ and $c$ quarks are treated using the Wilson-clover action with the Fermilab interpretation, whereas the light sector employs asqtad staggered fermion…
Lattice calculations of the form factors for the charm semileptonic decays D to K l nu and D to pi l nu provide inputs to direct determinations of the CKM matrix elements |V(cs)| and |V(cd)| and can be designed to validate calculations of the form factors for the bottom semileptonic decays B to pi l nu and B to K l l-bar. We are using Fermilab charm (bottom) quarks and asqtad staggered light quarks on the 2+1 flavor asqtad MILC ensembles to calculate the charm (bottom) form factors. We outline improvements to the previous calculation of the charm form factors and detail our progress. We expect…
Heavy quark effective theory can be used to calculate the values of the semileptonic B^(*) -> D^(*) decays in the limit that the heavy quark masses are infinite. We calculate the lowest order chiral corrections, which are of O(1/M^2), from the breaking of heavy quark symmetry at the zero recoil point in quenched chiral perturbation theory. These results will aid in the extrapolation of quenched lattice calculations from the light quark masses used on the lattice down to the physical ones.
The exclusive semileptonic decay $B \rightarrow π\ell ν$ is a key process for the determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $V_{ub}$ from the comparison of experimental rates as a function of $q^2$ with theoretically determined form factors. The sensitivity of the form factors to the $u/d$ quark mass has meant significant systematic uncertainties in lattice QCD calculations at unphysically heavy pion masses. Here we give the first lattice QCD calculations of this process for u/d quark masses going down to their physical values, calculating the $f_0$ form factor at zero reco…
A lattice determination of the form factor and decay constants for the semileptonic decay of heavy pseudoscalar (PS) mesons at zero recoil is presented from which the soft pion relation is satisfied. Chiral extrapolation of the form factor is performed at constant $q^2$. Pole dominance is used to extrapolate the form factor in heavy quark mass. At the B mass, the form factor at zero recoil lies somewhat below the ratio of decay constants; the relation remains satisfied within error.
We compute the $B\toπ\ellν$ semileptonic form factors and update the determination of the CKM matrix element $|V_{ub}|$. We use the MILC asqtad ensembles with $N_f=2+1$ sea quarks at four different lattice spacings in the range $a \approx 0.045$~fm to $0.12$~fm. The lattice form factors are extrapolated to the continuum limit using SU(2) staggered chiral perturbation theory in the hard pion limit, followed by an extrapolation in $q^2$ to the full kinematic range using a functional $z$-parameterization. The extrapolation is combined with the experimental measurements of the partial branching fr…
We calculate the form factor f_+(q^2) for B-meson semileptonic decay in unquenched lattice QCD with 2+1 flavors of light sea quarks. We use Asqtad-improved staggered light quarks and a Fermilab bottom quark on gauge configurations generated by the MILC Collaboration. We simulate with several light quark masses and at two lattice spacings, and extrapolate to the physical quark mass and continuum limit using heavy-light meson staggered chiral perturbation theory. We then fit the lattice result for f_+(q^2) simultaneously with that measured by the BABAR experiment using a parameterization of the …
We present a new study of the form factors for D -> K semileptonic decay from lattice QCD that allows us to compare the shape of the vector form factor to experiment and, for the first time, to extract V_cs using results from all experimental q^2 bins. The valence quarks are implemented with the Highly Improved Staggered Quark action on MILC configurations that include u, d and s sea quarks. The scalar and vector currents are nonperturbatively normalised and, using phased boundary conditions, we are able to cover the full q^2 range accessible to experiment. Our result is V_cs = 0.963(5)_{expt}…
We calculate form-factor ratios between the semileptonic decays \bar{B}->D^+\ell^-\barν and \bar{B}_s->D_s^+\ell^-\barν with lattice QCD. These ratios are a key theoretical input in a new strategy to determine the fragmentation fractions of the neutral B decays, which are needed for measurements of BR(B^0_s-> μ^+μ^-). We use the MILC ensembles of gauge configurations with 2+1 flavors of sea quarks at two lattice spacings of approximately 0.12 fm and 0.09 fm. We use the model-independent z-parametrization to extrapolate our simulation results at small recoil toward maximum recoil. Our results f…
We present the first lattice QCD calculation of the form factor for B-> D* l nu with three flavors of sea quarks. We use an improved staggered action for the light valence and sea quarks (the MILC configurations), and the Fermilab action for the heavy quarks. The form factor is computed at zero recoil using a new double ratio method that yields the form factor more directly than the previous Fermilab method. Other improvements over the previous calculation include the use of much lighter light quark masses, and the use of lattice (staggered) chiral perturbation theory in order to control the l…
$B$ anomalies play a prominent role in Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) physics searches. In particular, the long standing tension between the inclusive and the exclusive determinations of the CKM matrix element $|V_{cb}|$ and the current tensions in the $R(D)$--$R(D^\ast)$ plane between theory and experiment have brought the $B\to D^{(\ast)}\ellν$ semileptonic processes to the spotlight. Existing lattice-QCD calculations of the $B\to D\ellν$ form factors at non-zero recoil are being complemented with very recent developments in the $B\to D^\ast\ellν$ channel. In this review I discuss recent pr…
We present recent progress in calculating the semileptonic form factors $h_{A_1}(w)$ for the $\bar{B} \to D^{\ast} \ell \barν$ decays. We use the Oktay-Kronfeld (OK) action for the charm and bottom valence quarks and the HISQ action for light quarks. We adopt the Newton method combined with the scanning method to find a good initial guess for the $χ^2$ minimizer in the fitting of the 2pt correlation functions. The main advantage is that the Newton method lets us to consume all the time slices allowed by the physical positivity. We report the first, reliable, but preliminary results for $h_{A_1…
The current status of the lattice-QCD calculations of the form factors of the $B\to D^\ast\ellν$ semileptonic decay is reviewed. Particular emphasis is given to the most mature calculation at non-zero recoil coming from the Fermilab Lattice and MILC collaborations. Blinded, preliminary results for the form factors are shown, including a preliminary, but detailed error budget. The lattice results seem to favor a large slope at small recoil, in contrast to the latest untagged results coming from the Belle collaboration. A comprehensive comparison between the latest BGL $z$ expansions of Belle, B…
We present a very high statistics study of D and D_s semileptonic decay form factors on the lattice. We work with MILC N_f=2+1 lattices and use the Highly Improved Staggered Quark action (HISQ) for both the charm and the strange and light valence quarks. We use both scalar and vector currents to determine the form factors f_0(q^2) and f_+(q^2) for a range of D and D_s semileptonic decays, including D to pi and D to K. By using a phased boundary condition we are able to tune accurately to q^2=0 and explore the whole q^2 range allowed by kinematics. We can thus compare the shape in q^2 to that f…
We calculate semileptonic form factors for the decays $B_c \to η_c \, l ν$ and $B_c \to J/ψ\, l ν$ over the entire $q^2$ range, using a highly improved lattice quark action for charm at several lattice spacings down to $a=0.045$ fm. We have two ways of treating the $b$ quark: either with an $O(α_s)$ improved NRQCD formalism or by extrapolating a heavy mass $m_h$ to $m_b$ in the relativistic formalism. Comparison of the two approaches provides an important cross-check of methodologies in lattice QCD. Nonperturbative renormalisation of the currents in the relativistic theory also allows us then …
The determination of $|V_{us}|$ from kaon semileptonic decays requires the value of the form factor $f_+(q^2=0)$ which can be calculated precisely on the lattice. We provide the one-loop partially quenched chiral perturbation theory expressions both with and without including the effects of staggered quarks for all form factors at finite volume and with partially twisted boundary conditions for both the vector current and scalar density matrix elements at all $q^2$. We point out that at finite volume there are more form factors than just $f_+$ and $f_-$ for the vector current matrix element bu…
We update the lattice calculation of the $B\toπ$ semileptonic form factors, which have important applications to the CKM matrix element $|V_{ub}|$ and the $B\toπ\ell^+\ell^-$ rare decay. We use MILC asqtad ensembles with $N_f=2+1$ sea quarks and over a range of lattice spacings $a \approx 0.045$--$0.12$ fm. We perform a combined chiral and continuum extrapolation of our lattice data using SU(2) staggered chiral perturbation theory in the hard pion limit. To extend the results for the form factors to the full kinematic range, we take a functional approach to parameterize the form factors using …
We present a calculation of the form factor for B -> D* l nu using a 2+1 improved staggered action for the light quarks (on the MILC configurations), and the Fermilab action for the heavy quarks. The form factor is computed at zero recoil using a new double ratio method which yields the form factor more directly than previous approaches.
