We present the first unquenched lattice-QCD calculation of the hadronic form factors for the exclusive decay $\overline{B} \rightarrow D \ell \overlineν$ at nonzero recoil. We carry out numerical simulations on fourteen ensembles of gauge-field configurations generated with 2+1 flavors of asqtad-improved staggered sea quarks. The ensembles encompass a wide range of lattice spacings (approximately 0.045 to 0.12 fm) and ratios of light (up and down) to strange sea-quark masses ranging from 0.05 to 0.4. For the $b$ and $c$ valence quarks we use improved Wilson fermions with the Fermilab interpretation, while for the light valence quarks we use asqtad-improved staggered fermions. We extrapolate our results to the physical point using rooted staggered heavy-light meson chiral perturbation theory. We then parameterize the form factors and extend them to the full kinematic range using model-independent functions based on analyticity and unitarity. We present our final results for $f_+(q^2)$ and $f_0(q^2)$, including statistical and systematic errors, as coefficients of a series in the variable $z$ and the covariance matrix between these coefficients. We then fit the lattice form-factor data jointly with the experimentally measured differential decay rate from BaBar to determine the CKM matrix element, $|V_{cb}|=(39.6 \pm 1.7_{\rm QCD+exp} \pm 0.2_{\rm QED})\times 10^{-3}$. As a byproduct of the joint fit we obtain the form factors with improved precision at large recoil. Finally, we use them to update our calculation of the ratio $R(D)$ in the Standard Model, which yields $R(D) = 0.299(11)$.
We have analyzed the semileptonic decays $B\rightarrow D\ellν$ and $B\rightarrow D^*\ellν$ on the full suite of MILC (2+1)-flavor asqtad ensembles with lattice spacings as small as 0.045 fm and light-to-strange-quark mass ratios as low as 1/20. We use the Fermilab interpretation of the clover action for heavy valence quarks and the asqtad action for light valence quarks. We compute the hadronic form factors for $B\rightarrow D$ at both zero and nonzero recoil and for $B\rightarrow D^*$ at zero recoil. We report our results for $|V_{cb}|$.
The Fermilab Lattice and MILC collaborations are completing a comprehensive program of heavy-light physics on MILC (2+1)-flavor asqtad ensembles with lattice spacings as small as 0.045 fm and light-to-strange-quark mass ratios as low as 1/20. We use the Fermilab interpretation of the clover action for heavy valence quarks and the asqtad action for the light valence quarks. The central goal of the program is to provide ever more exacting tests of the unitarity of the CKM matrix. We present preliminary results for one part of the program, namely the analysis of the semileptonic decay B -> D l nu…

We present nearly final results from our analysis of the form factors for $B\to D^\ast\ellν$ decay at nonzero recoil. Our analysis includes 15 MILC asqtad ensembles with $N_f=2+1$ flavors of sea quarks and lattice spacings ranging from $a\approx0.15$ fm down to $0.045$ fm. The valence light quarks employ the asqtad action, whereas the $b$ and $c$ quarks are treated using the Fermilab action. We discuss the impact that our results will have on $\ |V_{cb}\ |$ and $R(D^\ast)$.
We derive the continuum and lattice tree-level moving NRQCD (mNRQCD) through order 1/m^2. mNRQCD is a generalization of NRQCD for dealing with hadrons with nonzero velocity u_mu. The quark's total momentum is written as P^mu=Mu^mu+k^mu where k^mu << Mu^mu is discretized and Mu^mu is treated exactly. Radiative corrections to couplings on the lattice are discussed. mNRQCD is particularly useful for calculating B->pi and B->D form factors since errors are similar at low and high recoil.
We present the status of our ongoing calculation of the zero-recoil form factor for the semileptonic decay $\bar{B}^0\rightarrow D^{*+}l^-\barν$ using lattice QCD with 2+1+1 flavours of highly improved staggered quarks in the sea (the MILC HISQ configurations) and using non-relativistic QCD for the bottom quark. We combine our result for $ F(1)$ with the latest HFAG average of $η_{EW} F(1)|V_{cb}|$ to get a preliminary value for $|V_{cb}|$.
We present preliminary results from our analysis of the form factors for the $\overline{B}\rightarrow D^\ast\ell\overlineν$ decay at non-zero recoil. Our analysis includes 15 MILC asqtad ensembles with $N_f=2+1$ flavors of sea quarks and lattice spacings ranging from $a\approx 0.15$ fm down to $0.045$ fm. The valence light quarks employ the asqtad action, whereas the heavy quarks are treated using the Fermilab action. We conclude with a discussion of future plans and phenomenological implications. When combined with experimental measurements of the decay rate, our calculation will enable a det…
We present the first preliminary results for the semileptonic form factor $h_{A_1}(w=1)/ρ_{A_j}$ at zero recoil for the $\bar B \rightarrow D^\ast \ell \bar ν$ decay using lattice QCD with four flavors of sea quarks. We use the HISQ staggered action for the light valence and sea quarks (the MILC HISQ configurations), and the Oktay-Kronfeld (OK) action for the heavy valence quarks.
We study the hadronic matrix elements describing the $B_s \to D_s\ell \barν_\ell$ decay in and beyond the Standard Model. By using the twisted mass QCD on the lattice with $N_f=2$ dynamical flavors we compute the normalization $\mathscr G_s(1)$ of the form factor dominating $B_s\to D_s \ell \barν_\ell$ in the SM. We also make the first lattice determination of $F_0(q^2)/F_+(q^2)$ and $F_T(q^2)/F_+(q^2)$ near zero recoil (near $q^2_{\rm max}$). We briefly discuss the non-strange case $B \to D\ell \barν_\ell$ as well.
$B$ anomalies play a prominent role in Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) physics searches. In particular, the long standing tension between the inclusive and the exclusive determinations of the CKM matrix element $|V_{cb}|$ and the current tensions in the $R(D)$--$R(D^\ast)$ plane between theory and experiment have brought the $B\to D^{(\ast)}\ellν$ semileptonic processes to the spotlight. Existing lattice-QCD calculations of the $B\to D\ellν$ form factors at non-zero recoil are being complemented with very recent developments in the $B\to D^\ast\ellν$ channel. In this review I discuss recent pr…

The valence $b$ and $c$ quarks are treated using the Wilson-clover action with the Fermilab interpretation, whereas the light sector employs asqtad staggered fermion…
The current status of the lattice-QCD calculations of the form factors of the $B\to D^\ast\ellν$ semileptonic decay is reviewed. Particular emphasis is given to the most mature calculation at non-zero recoil coming from the Fermilab Lattice and MILC collaborations. Blinded, preliminary results for the form factors are shown, including a preliminary, but detailed error budget. The lattice results seem to favor a large slope at small recoil, in contrast to the latest untagged results coming from the Belle collaboration. A comprehensive comparison between the latest BGL $z$ expansions of Belle, B…

The exclusive semileptonic decay $B \rightarrow π\ell ν$ is a key process for the determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $V_{ub}$ from the comparison of experimental rates as a function of $q^2$ with theoretically determined form factors. The sensitivity of the form factors to the $u/d$ quark mass has meant significant systematic uncertainties in lattice QCD calculations at unphysically heavy pion masses. Here we give the first lattice QCD calculations of this process for u/d quark masses going down to their physical values, calculating the $f_0$ form factor at zero reco…
We present results of a lattice QCD calculation of $B\to D^*$ and $B_s\to D_s^*$ axial vector matrix elements with both states at rest. These zero recoil matrix elements provide the normalization necessary to infer a value for the CKM matrix element $|V_{cb}|$ from experimental measurements of $\bar{B}^0\to D^{*+}\ell^-\barν$ and $\bar{B}^0_s\to D_s^{*+}\ell^-\barν$ decay. Results are derived from correlation functions computed with highly improved staggered quarks (HISQ) for light, strange, and charm quark propagators, and nonrelativistic QCD for the bottom quark propagator. The calculation o…
We compute the zero-recoil form factor for the semileptonic decay $\bar{B}^0\to D^{*+}\ell^-\barν$ (and modes related by isospin and charge conjugation) using lattice QCD with three flavors of sea quarks. We use an improved staggered action for the light valence and sea quarks (the MILC \asqtad\ configurations), and the Fermilab action for the heavy quarks. Our calculations incorporate higher statistics, finer lattice spacings, and lighter quark masses than our 2008 work. As a byproduct of tuning the new data set, we obtain the $D_s$ and $B_s$ hyperfine splittings with few-MeV accuracy. For th…
We propose a strategy to compute form factors entering the semileptonic decay channel of $B$ mesons into orbitally excited (P wave) $D^{**}$ charmed mesons on the lattice using, for the first time, realistic charm quarks having a finite mass. We present preliminary results about the extracted transition amplitudes and form factors at different recoils and at three different $b$ quark masses.
We present the first lattice-QCD determination of the form factors describing the semileptonic decays $Λ_b \to Λ_c^*(2595)\ell^-\barν$ and $Λ_b \to Λ_c^*(2625)\ell^-\barν$, where the $Λ_c^*(2595)$ and $Λ_c^*(2625)$ are the lightest charm baryons with $J^P=\frac12^-$ and $J^P=\frac32^-$, respectively. These decay modes provide new opportunities to test lepton flavor universality and also play an important role in global analyses of the strong interactions in $b\to c$ semileptonic decays. We determine the full set of vector, axial vector, and tensor form factors for both decays, but only in a sm…
We report on our study of the B \to D^(*) \ell νsemileptonic decays at zero and nonzero recoils in 2+1 flavor QCD. The Möbius domain-wall action is employed for light, charm and bottom quarks at lattice cutoffs 1/a = 2.5 and 3.6 GeV. We take bottom quark masses up to \approx 2.4 times the physical charm mass to control discretization effects. The pion mass is as low as M_π\sim 310 MeV. We present our preliminary results for the relevant form factors and discuss the violation of heavy quark symmetry, which is a recent important isuue on the long-standing tension in the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa…
We present a model-independent global analysis of hadronic form factors for the semileptonic decays $b\rightarrow c\ellν$ that exploits lattice-QCD data, dispersion relations, and heavy-quark symmetries. The analysis yields predictions for the relevant form factors, within quantifiable bounds. These form factors are used to compute the semileptonic ratios $R(H_c)$ and various decay-product polarizations. In particular, we find $R(D_s^*)=0.20(3)$ and $R(J/ψ)=0.25(3)$, predictions that can be compared to results of upcoming LHCb measurements. In developing this treatment, we obtain leading-order…
