Quantized expressions for the gravitational energy and momentum are derived from a linearized theory of teleparallel gravity. The derivation relies on a second-quantization procedure that constructs annihilation and creation operators for the graviton. The resulting gravitational field is a collection of gravitons, each of which has precise energy and momentum. On the basis of the weak-field approximation of Schwarzschild's solution, a new form for the quantization of the mass of a black hole is derived.
Using the adiabatic invariant action and applying Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization rule and first law of black hole thermodynamics a study of quantization of entropy and horizon area of Kerr-Newman-de Sitter black hole is carried out. The same entropy spectrum is obtained in two different coordinate systems. It is also observed that the spacing of the entropy spectrum is independent of the black hole parameters and also the corresponding quantum of horizon area is in agreement with the results of Bekenstein.
In this work we argue that black hole area quantization of Bekenstein and Mukhanov should not give rise to measurable effects in terms of so-called gravitational wave echoes during black hole mergers. We outline that the quantum spectrum of a black hole should be washed out during and after black hole mergers, and hence one should not expect echoes in this scenario. The extreme broadening of the spectrum is due to the large particle emission rate during ringdown. Our results question key assumptions being made in recent literature on this topic.
Here, we present a review about the quantization of spherically-symmetric spacetimes adopting loop quantum gravity techniques. Several models that have been studied so far share similar properties: the resolution of the classical singularity and some of them an intrinsic discretization of the geometry. We also explain the extension to Reissner---Nordström black holes. Besides, we review how quantum test fields on these quantum geometries allow us to study phenomena, like the Casimir effect or Hawking radiation. Finally, we briefly describe a recent proposal that incorporates spherically-symmet…
Charged massive scalar fields are studied in the gravitational, electromagnetic, dilaton, and axion fields of rotating linear dilaton black holes. In this geometry, we separate the covariant Klein-Gordon equation into radial and angular parts and obtain the exact solutions of both the equations in terms of the confluent Heun functions. Using the radial solution, we study the problems of resonant frequencies, entropy/area quantization, and greybody factor. We also analyze the behavior of the wave solutions near the event horizon of the rotating linear dilaton black hole and derive its Hawking t…
We calculate the black hole mass distribution function that follows from the random emission of quanta by Hawking radiation and with this function we calculate the black hole mass fluctuation. From a complete different perspective we regard the black hole as quantum mechanical system with a quantized event horizon area and transition probabilities among the various energy levels and then calculate the mass dispersion. It turns out that there is a perfect agreement between the statistical and the microscopic calculations if and only if the area spectrum is linear. Accordingly, the quantum mecha…
As a mysterious celestial body predicted by General Relativity, black holes have been confirmed by observations in recent years. But there are still many unknown properties waiting for us to discover, one of the famous problems is the quantization of black holes. The quantization of black holes gives new research significance to black holes, but the quantization of black holes is difficult to prove. Here we propose a new method to verify the quantization of black holes: Carnot cycle. Our results show that if the black holes have quantized energy levels, the work W they impose to us via the Car…
Quantum gravity is effective in domains where both quantum effects and gravity are essential, such as in the vicinity of space-time singularities. This paper will investigate the quantization of a black-hole gravity, particularly the region surrounding the singularity at the origin of the coordinate system. Describing the system with a Hamiltonian formalism, we apply the covariant integral quantization method to find the Wheeler-DeWitt equation of the model. We find that the quantized system has a discrete energy spectrum in the region inside the event horizon. Through the Kantowski-Sachs metr…
In this work we study the Schwarzschild metric in the context of canonical quantum gravity inside the horizon, close of horizon and near the black hole singularity. Using this standard quantization procedure, we show that the horizon is quantized and the black hole singularity disappears. For the first case, quantization of the Schwarzschild radius was obtained in terms of the Planck length $l_{Pl}$, a positive integer $n$ and the ordering factor of the operator $p$. From the quantization of the Schwarzschild radius it was possible to determine the area of the black hole event horizon, its mas…
The gravitational field is usually neglected in the calculation of atomic energy levels as its effect is much weaker than the electromagnetic field, but that is not the case for a particle orbiting a black hole. In this work, the canonical quantization of a massive and massless particles under gravitational field exerted by this tiny but very massive object, both neutral and charged, is carried out. By using this method, a very rare exact result of the particle's quantized energy can be discovered. The presence of a very strong attractive field and also the horizon make the energy complex valu…
Chargeless massive scalar fields are studied in the spacetime of Born-Infeld dilaton black holes (BIDBHs). We first separate the massive covariant Klein-Gordon equation into radial and angular parts and obtain the exact solution of the radial equation in terms of the confluent Heun functions. Using the obtained radial solution, we show how one gets the exact quasinormal modes (QNMs) for some particular cases. We also solve the Klein-Gordon equation in the spacetime of BIDBH with a cosmic string in which we point out the effect of the conical deficit on the BIDBH. The analytical solutions of th…
Recently a consistent non-perturbative quantization of the Schwarzschild interior resulting in a bounce from black hole to white hole geometry has been obtained by loop quantizing the Kantowski-Sachs vacuum spacetime. As in other spacetimes where the singularity is dominated by the Weyl part of the spacetime curvature, the structure of the singularity is highly anisotropic in the Kantowski-Sachs vacuum spacetime. As a result the bounce turns out to be in general asymmetric creating a large mass difference between the parent black hole and the child white hole. In this manuscript, we investigat…
For purposes of quantization, classical gravity is normally expressed by canonical variables, namely the metric $g_{ab}(x)$ and the momentum $π^{cd}(x)$. Canonical quantization requires a proper promotion of these classical variables to quantum operators, which, according to Dirac, the favored operators should be those arising from classical variables that formed Cartesian coordinates; sadly, in this case, that is not possible. However, an affine quantization features promoting the metric $g_{ab}(x)$ and the momentric $π^c_d(x)\;[\equiv π^{ce}(x) \,g_{de}(x)]$ to operators. Instead of these cl…
A classical black hole is characterized by a horizon that absorbs radiation of all frequencies incident on it. Perturbation of these black holes is well-understood via exponentially damped sinusoids known as quasi-normal modes. Any departure from such classical behavior near the horizon may induce significant modifications in the late time evolution of the perturbation leading to so-called gravitational wave echoes. This work considers the effect of black hole area-quantization on the formation of gravitational wave echoes. We investigate how the resulting echo waveform may depend on various m…
It was recently observed in \cite{Park:2014tia} that the holographic nature of gravity may hold a key to quantization of gravity. The so-called "holographic quantization" has been carried out in \cite{Park:2014noa,Park:2015ota} for Einstein gravity in a flat background. Generalizing the procedure to a curved background is the main goal of the present work. In particular, we consider the Einstein action expanded around a Schwarzschild background
The emergence of nontrivial symmetries for black holes minisuperspaces has been recently pointed out. These Noether symmetries possess non-null charges and hence map physical solutions to different ones. The symmetry group is isomorphic to the finite-dimensional Poincaré group ISO(2,1), whose irreducible representations are well known. This structure is used to build a consistent quantum theory of black hole minisuperspace. This has, among other consequences, the striking consequence of implying a continuous spectrum for the mass operator. Following loop quantum cosmology, we obtain a regulari…
A "time"-covariant Schrödinger equation is defined for the minisuperspace model of the Reissner-Nordström (RN) black hole, as a "hybrid" between the "intrinsic time" Schrödinger and Wheeler-DeWitt(WDW) equations. To do so, a reduced, regular and "time(r)"-dependent Hamiltonian density was constructed, without "breaking" the re-parametrization covariance $r\rightarrow f(\tilde{r})$. As a result, evolution of states with respect to the parameter $r$ and probabilistic interpretation of the resulting quantum description is possible, while quantum schemes for different gauge choices are equivalent …
In this letter, the open string is quantized in a time dependent black hole background. The geometry is defined through an adiabatic approximation of the Vaydia metric. The worldsheet two-point function is derived and it is shown to have the same type of singularity as the flat space one. However, the equal times two-point function depends on the particular Cauchy surface where the worldsheet fields are defined. Finite temperature effects are incorporated through the Liouville-von Neumann approach to non equilibrium thermodynamics.
