We prove that radial, monotonic, superexponentially decaying potentials in R^n, n greater than or equal to 1 odd, are determined by the resonances of the associated semiclassical Schrodinger operator among all superexponentially decaying potentials in R^n.
We prove that the spectrum of an n-dimensional semiclassical radial Schrödinger operator determines the potential within a large class of potentials for which we assume no symmetry or analyticity. Our proof is based on the first two semiclassical trace invariants and on the isoperimetric inequality.
We consider a magnetic Schrödinger operator $H^h$, depending on a semiclassical parameter $h>0$, on a compact Riemannian manifold. We assume that there is no electric field. We suppose that the minimal value $b_0$ of the intensity of the magnetic field $b$ is strictly positive. We give a survey of the results on asymptotic behavior of the eigenvalues of the operator $H^h$ in the semiclassical limit.
We revisit the problem of semiclassical spectral asymptotics for a pure magnetic Schrödinger operator on a two-dimensional Riemannian manifold. We suppose that the minimal value $b_0$ of the intensity of the magnetic field is strictly positive, and the corresponding minimum is unique and non-degenerate. The purpose is to get the control on the spectrum in an interval $(hb_0, h(b_0 +γ_0)]$ for some $γ_0>0$ independent of the semiclassical parameter $h$. The previous papers by Helffer-Mohamed and by Helffer-Kordyukov were only treating the ground-state energy or a finite (independent of $h$) num…
We consider semiclassically scaled Schrodinger equations with an external potential and a highly oscillatory periodic potential. We construct asymptotic solutions in the form of semiclassical wave packets. These solutions are concentrated (both, in space and in frequency) around the effective semiclassical phase-space flow obtained by Peierl's substitution, and involve a slowly varying envelope whose dynamics is governed by a homogenized Schrodinger equation with time-dependent effective mass. The corresponding adiabatic decoupling of the slow and fast degrees of freedom is shown to be valid u…
We consider solutions of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation for a potential localised at the points of a Poisson process. We prove convergence of the phase-space distribution in the annealed Boltzmann-Grad limit to a semiclassical Wigner (or defect) measure and show that it is a solution of the linear Boltzmann equation. Our results hold for a large class of square-integrable initial data associated to Wigner measures, including Langragian states, WKB states and coherent states. This extends important previous work by Eng and Erdős.
We give a survey of some results, mainly obtained by the authors and their collaborators, on spectral properties of the magnetic Schrödinger operators in the semiclassical limit. We focus our discussion on asymptotic behavior of the individual eigenvalues for operators on closed manifolds and existence of gaps in intervals close to the bottom of the spectrum of periodic operators.
We study the asymptotic behaviour of solutions to semi-classical nonlinear Schrodinger equations with a potential, for concentrating and oscillating initial data, when the nonlinearity is repulsive and the potential is a polynomial of degree at most two. We describe the separate roles of the nonlinearity and of the potential, with tools which seem to be specific to the class of potentials that we consider. We also discuss the case of more general subquadratic potentials.
We consider a magnetic Schrödinger operator $H^h$, depending on the semiclassical parameter $h>0$, on a two-dimensional Riemannian manifold. We assume that there is no electric field. We suppose that the minimal value $b_0$ of the magnetic field $b$ is strictly positive, and there exists a unique minimum point of $b$, which is non-degenerate. The main result of the paper is a complete asymptotic expansion for the low-lying eigenvalues of the operator $H^h$ in the semiclassical limit. We also apply these results to prove the existence of an arbitrary large number of spectral gaps in the semicla…
We prove optimal pointwise bounds on quasimodes of semiclassical Schrodinger operators with arbitrary smooth real potentials in dimension two. This end-point estimate was left open in the general study of semiclassical Lp bounds conducted by Koch-Tataru-Zworski. However, we show that their results imply the two dimensional end-point estimate by scaling and localization.
We continue our study of a magnetic Schrödinger operator on a two-dimensional compact Riemannian manifold in the case when the minimal value of the module of the magnetic field is strictly positive. We analyze the case when the magnetic field has degenerate magnetic wells. The main result of the paper is an asymptotics of the groundstate energy of the operator in the semiclassical limit. The upper bounds are improved in the case when we have a localization by a miniwell effect of lowest order. These results are applied to prove the existence of an arbitrary large number of spectral gaps in the…
We prove the uniqueness and non-degeneracy of positive solutions to a cubic nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) type equation that describes nucleons. The main difficulty stems from the fact that the mass depends on the solution itself. As an application, we construct solutions to the $σ$--$ω$ model, which consists of one Dirac equation coupled to two Klein-Gordon equations (one focusing and one defocusing).
We consider a fractional Schrödinger-Poisson system in the whole space $\mathbb R^{N}$ in presence of a positive potential and depending on a small positive parameter $\varepsilon.$ We show that, for suitably small $\varepsilon$ (i.e. in the "semiclassical limit") the number of positive solutions is estimated below by the Ljusternick-Schnirelmann category of the set of minima of the potential.
We study the resonant set of a two-level Schrödinger operator with a linear conical intersection. This model operator can be decomposed into a direct sum of first order systems on the real half-line. For these ordinary differential systems we locally construct exact WKB solutions, which are connected to global solutions, amongst which are resonant states. The main results are a generalized Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization condition and an asymptotic description of the set of resonances as a distorted lattice.
In this article we establish the unconditional uniqueness of solutions to an Infinite Radial Chern-Simons-Schrödinger (IRCSS) hierarchy in two spatial dimensions. The IRCSS hierarchy is a system of infinitely many coupled PDEs that describes the limiting Chern-Simons-Schrödinger dynamics of infinitely many interacting anyons. The anyons are two dimensional objects which interact through a self-generated field. Due to the interactions with the self-generated field, the IRCSS hierarchy is a system of nonlinear PDEs, which distinguishes it from the linear infinite hierarchies studied previously. …
We prove quantitative unique continuation results for the semiclassical Schrodinger operator on smooth, compact domains. These take the form of exponentially decreasing (in h) local L^{2} lower bounds for exponentially precise quasimodes. We also show that these lower bounds are sharp in h, and that, moreover, the hypothesized quasimode accuracy is also sharp.
We consider systems of weakly coupled Schrödinger equations with nonconstant potentials and we investigate the existence of nontrivial nonnegative solutions which concentrate around local minima of the potentials. We obtain sufficient and necessary conditions for a sequence of least energy solutions to concentrate.
We consider the operator ${\mathcal A}_h=-Δ+iV$ in the semi-classical $h\rightarrow 0$, where $V$ is a smooth real potential with no critical points. We obtain both the left margin of the spectrum, as well as resolvent estimates on the left side of this margin. We extend here previous results obtained for the Dirichlet realization of ${\mathcal A}_h$ by removing significant limitations that were formerly imposed on $V$. In addition, we apply our techniques to the more general Robin boundary condition and to a transmission problem which is of significant interest in physical applications.
We define a Schrödinger operator on the half-space with a discontinuous magnetic field having a piecewise-constant strength and a uniform direction. Motivated by applications in the theory of superconductivity, we study the infimum of the spectrum of the operator. We give sufficient conditions on the strength and the direction of the magnetic field such that the aforementioned infimum is an eigenvalue of a reduced model operator on the half-plane. We use the Schrödinger operator on the half-space to study a new semiclassical problem in bounded domains of the space, considering a magnetic Neuma…
In this article, we shall construct the resolvent of Laplacian at high energies near the spectrum on non-product conic manifolds with a single cone tip. Microlocally, the resolvent kernel is the sum of b-pseudodifferential operators, scattering pseudodifferential operators and intersecting Legendrian distributions. As an application, we shall establish Strichartz estimates for Schrödinger equations on non-compact manifolds with multiple non-product conic singularities.
The semi-classical regime of standing wave solutions of a Schrödinger equation in presence of non-constant electric and magnetic potentials is studied in the case of non-local nonlinearities of Hartree type. It is show that there exists a family of solutions having multiple concentration regions which are located around the minimum points of the electric potential.
We show that the knowledge of the set of the Cauchy data on the boundary of a bounded open set in $\R^n$, $n\ge 3$, for the magnetic Schrödinger operator with $L^\infty$ magnetic and electric potentials determines the magnetic field and electric potential inside the set uniquely. The proof is based on a Carleman estimate for the magnetic Schrödinger operator with a gain of two derivatives.
In this paper, we consider the following singularly perturbed fractional Kirchhoff problem \begin{equation*} \Big(\varepsilon^{2s}a+\varepsilon^{4s-N} b{\int_{\mathbb{R}^{N}}}|(-Δ)^{\frac{s}{2}}u|^2dx\Big)(-Δ)^su+V(x)u=|u|^{p-2}u,\quad \text{in}\ \mathbb{R}^{N}, \end{equation*} where $a,b>0$, $2s<N<4s$ with $s\in(0,1)$, $2<p<2^*_s=\frac{2N}{N-2s}$ and $(-Δ)^s$ is the fractional Laplacian. For $\varepsilon> 0$ sufficiently small and a bounded continuous function $V$, we establish a type of local Pohozǎev identity by extension technique and then we can obtain the local uniqueness of semiclassica…
We prove that there exists a pair of "non-isospectral" 1D semiclassical Schrödinger operators whose spectra agree modulo h^\infty. In particular, all their semiclassical trace invariants are the same. Our proof is based on an idea of Fulling-Kuchment and Hadamard's variational formula applied to suitable perturbations of the harmonic oscillator. Keywords: Inverse spectral problems, semiclassical Schrödinger operators, trace invariants, Hadamard's variational formula, harmonic oscillator, Penrose mushroom, Sturm-Liouville theory.
We study the spectral projection associated to a barrier-top resonance for the semiclassical Schrodinger operator. First, we prove a resolvent estimate for complex energies close to such a resonance. Using that estimate and an explicit representation of the resonant states, we show that the spectral projection has a semiclassical expansion in integer powers of h, and compute its leading term. We use this result to compute the residue of the scattering amplitude at such a resonance. Eventually, we give an expansion for large times of the Schrodinger group in terms of these resonances.
In this note, we study solutions to semiclassical Schrodinger equations on a real analytic manifold with a real analytic potential and prove the semiclassical version of Cauchy estimates on derivatives. As an application, we use Donnelly and Fefferman's method to prove the upper and lower bounds for (n-1)-dimensional Hausdorff measure of the nodal sets of the solutions to semiclassical Schrodinger equations.
In this paper, we study the following semilinear Schrödinger equation $$ -ε^2\triangle u+ u+ V(x)u=f(u),\ u\in H^{1}(\mathbb{R}^{N}), $$ where $N\geq 2$ and $ε>0$ is a small parameter. The function $V$ is bounded in $\mathbb{R}^N$, $\inf_{\mathbb{R}^N}(1+V(x))>0$ and it has a possibly degenerate isolated critical point. Under some conditions on $f,$ we prove that as $ε\rightarrow 0,$ this equation has a solution which concentrates at the critical point of $V$.}
We are interested in a WKB analysis of the Logarithmic Non-Linear Schrödinger Equation with "Riemann-like" variables in an analytic framework in semiclassical regime. We show that the Cauchy problem is locally well posed uniformly in the semiclassical constant and that the semiclassical limit can be performed. In particular, our framework is not only compatible with the Gross-Pitaevskii equation with logarithmic nonlinearity, but also allows initial data (and solutions) which can converge to $0$ at infinity.
In this short note, we show a uniqueness result of the energy solutions for the Cauchy problem of Schrodinger flow in the whole space $R^n$ provided there is a smooth solution in the energy class.
We give a sharp upper bound on the vanishing order of solutions to Schrödinger equation, in the case that the potential is of class $\mathcal{C}^1$ on a smooth compact manifold.
In this paper a nonlinear coupled Schrodinger system in the presence of mixed cubic and superlinear power laws is considered. Focus are made on the steady state solutions of the continuous system for existence and uniqueness by minimizing problem on some associated Nehari manifold.
The aim of this paper is to provide uniform estimates for the eigenvalue spacings of one-dimensional semiclassical Schrödinger operators with singular potentials on the half-line. We introduce a new development of semiclassical measures related to families of Schrödinger operators that provides a means of establishing uniform non-concentration estimates within that class of operators. This dramatically simplifies analysis that would typically require detailed WKB expansions near the turning point, near the singular point and several gluing type results to connect various regions in the domain.
In dimensions $d\geq 4$, we prove that the Schrödinger map initial-value problem admits global (in time) solutions for smooth data with small norm in the critical Sobolev space.
In this paper, a class of Schrödinger-Poisson system involving multiple competing potentials and critical Sobolev exponent is considered. Such a problem cannot be studied with the same argument of the nonlinear term with only a positive potential, because the weight potentials set $\{Q_i(x)|1\le i \le m\}$ contains nonpositive, sign-changing, and nonnegative elements. By introducing the ground energy function and subtle analysis, we first prove the existence of ground state solution $v_\varepsilon$ in the semiclassical limit via the Nehari manifold and concentration-compactness principle. Then…
We study uniqueness and nondegeneracy of ground states for stationary nonlinear Schrödinger equations with a focusing power-type nonlinearity and an attractive inverse-power potential. We refine the results of Shioji and Watanabe (2016) and apply it to prove the uniqueness and nondegeneracy of ground states for our equations. We also discuss the orbital instability of ground state-standing waves.
We establish the uniqueness of ground states of some coupled nonlinear Schrodinger systems in the whole space. We firstly use Schwartz symmetrization to obtain the existence of ground states for a more general case. To prove the uniqueness of ground states, we use the radial symmetry of the ground states to transform the systems into an ordinary differential system, and then we use the integral forms of the system. More interestingly, as an application of our uniqueness results, we derive a sharp vector-valued Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality.
In this paper, we consider the singularly perturbed fractional Schrödinger equation \begin{equation*} ε^{2α}(-Δ)^αu+V(x)u=f(u),\quad x\in \mathbb{R}^N, \end{equation*} where $ε>0$ is a small parameter, $α\in(0,1)$, $(-Δ)^α$ is the fractional Laplacian operator of order $α$, $V$ possesses global minimum points, and $f$ is asymptotically linear at infinity. We investigate the relationship between the number of positive solutions and the topology of the set where the potential $V$ attains its global minimum. We also construct multiple concentrating solutions if $V$ has several strict global minim…
We give a sharp upper bound on the vanishing order of solutions to Schrodinger equation with C^1 electric and magnetic potentials on a compact smooth manifold. Our method is based on quantitative Carleman type inequalities developed by Donnelly and Fefferman. It also extends the first author's previous work to the magnetic potential case.
We prove that the solutions to the initial-value problem for 2-dimensional Schrödinger maps are unique in $C_tL_x^{\infty} \cap L_t^{\infty} (\dot{H}^1_x\cap \dot{H}^2_x)$. For the proof, we follow McGahagan's argument with improving its technical part, combining Yudovich's argument.
A large time expansion for the propagator associated to a semiclassical non-selfadjoint magnetic Schrödinger operator is established, in terms of the low lying eigenvalues of the operator.
We study the following fractional Schrödinger equation \begin{equation*}\label{eq0.1} \varepsilon^{2s}(-Δ)^s u + V(x)u = f(u), \,\,x\in\mathbb{R}^N, \end{equation*} where $s\in(0,1)$. Under some conditions on $f(u)$, we show that the problem has a family of solutions concentrating at any finite given local minima of $V$ provided that $V\in C(\R^N,[0,+\infty))$. All decay rates of $V$ are admissible. Especially, $V$ can be compactly supported. Different from the local case $s=1$ or the case of single-peak solutions, the nonlocal effect of the operator $(-Δ)^s$ makes the peaks of the candidate s…
We prove the unconditional uniqueness of solutions to the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation (DNLS) in an almost end-point regularity. To this purpose, we employ the normal form method and we transform (a gauge-equivalent) DNLS into a new equation (the so-called normal form equation) for which nonlinear estimates can be easily established in $H^s(\mathbb{R})$, $s>\frac12$, without appealing to an auxiliary function space. Also, we prove that low-regularity solutions of DNLS satisfy the normal form equation and this is done by means of estimates in the $H^{s-1}(\mathbb{R})$-norm.
In this paper, we investigate the existence and local uniqueness of normalized peak solutions for a Schrödinger-Newton system under the assumption that the trapping potential is degenerate and has non-isolated critical points. First we investigate the existence and local uniqueness of normalized single-peak solutions for the Schrödinger-Newton system. Precisely, we give the precise description of the chemical potential $μ$ and the attractive interaction $a$. Then we apply the finite dimensional reduction method to obtain the existence of single-peak solutions. Furthermore, using various local …
In this paper we consider the linear Schrodinger equation (LSE) on a regular tree with the last generation of edges of infinite length and analyze some unique continuation properties. The first part of the paper deals with the LSE on the real line with a piece-wise constant coefficient and uses this result in the context of regular trees. The second part treats the case of a LSE with a real potential in the framework of a star-shaped graph.
