We present a general technique to obtain the zero temperature full counting statistics of charge transfer in interacting impurity models out of equilibrium from time-dependent simulations on a lattice. We demonstrate the technique with application to the self-dual interacting resonant level model, where very good agreement between numerical simulations using the density matrix renormalization group and those obtained analytically from the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz is found. We show from the exact form of counting statistics that the quasiparticles involved in transport carry charge $2e$ in the low bias regime, and $e/2$ in the high bias regime.
We present a theory of full counting statistics for electron transport through interacting electron systems with non-Markovian dynamics. We illustrate our approach for transport through a single-level quantum dot and a metallic single-electron transistor to second order in the tunnel-coupling strength, and discuss under which circumstances non-Markovian effects appear in the transport properties.
We consider the steady state non-equilibrium physics of the multichannel interacting resonant level model in the weak coupling regime. By using the scattering state method we show in agreement with the rate equations that the negative differential conductance at large enough voltages is due to the renormalization of the hopping amplitude thus of the vertex.
We present a thermodynamic formalism to study the full counting statistics (FCS) of charge transport through a quantum dot coupled to two leads in the resonant-level model. We show that a close analogue of equilibrium phase transitions exists for the statistics of transferred charge; by tuning an appropriate `counting field', crossovers to different dynamical phases are possible. Our description reveals a mapping between the FCS of a given device and current measurements over a range of devices with different dot-lead coupling strengths. Further insight into features in the FCS is found by stu…
By using two independent and complementary approaches, we compute exactly the shot noise in an out-of-equilibrium interacting impurity model, the Interacting Resonant Level model at its self-dual point. An analytical approach based on the Thermodynamical Bethe Ansatz allows to obtain the density matrix in the presence of a bias voltage, which in turn allows for the computation of any observable. A time-dependent Density Matrix Renormalization Group technique, that has proven to yield the correct result for a free model (the Resonant Level Model) is shown to be in perfect agreement with the for…
In a variety of mesoscopic systems shot noise is seen to be suppressed in comparison with its Poisson value. In this work we observe a considerable enhancement of shot noise in the case of resonant tunnelling via localised states. We present a model of correlated transport through two localised states which provides both a qualitative and quantitative description of this effect.
The magnetopolaronic generalization of a Majorana-resonant-level (-MRL) model is considered for a single-level vibrating quantum dot symmetrically coupled to two half-infinite $g=1/2$- Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid (-TLL) leads at the Toulouse point. At the resonance by gate voltage the exact solution for the effective transmission coefficient is obtained in the whole range of magnetopolaronic coupling constant values. The obtained exact solution exists due to special Majorana-like symmetry of tunnel Hamiltonian and gives rise to nontrivial interference between different virtual vibronic channels …
The generating function for the cumulants of charge current distribution is calculated for two generalised Majorana resonant level models: the Kondo dot at the Toulouse point and the resonant level embedded in a Luttinger liquid with the interaction parameter $g=1/2$. We find that the low--temperature non-equilibrium transport in the Kondo case occurs via tunnelling of physical electrons as well as by coherent transmission of electron pairs. We calculate the third cumulant (`skewness') explicitly and analyse it for different couplings, temperatures, and magnetic fields. For the $g=1/2$ set-up …
We present exact results for the susceptibility of the interacting resonant level model in equilibrium. Detailed simulations using both the Numerical Renormalization Group and Density Matrix Renormalization Group were performed in order to compare with closed analytical expressions. By first bosonizing the model and then utilizing the integrability of the resulting boundary sine-Gordon model, one finds an analytic expression for the relevant energy scale $T_K$ with excellent agreement to the numerical results. On the other hand, direct application of the Bethe ansatz of the interacting resonan…
We study effects of Coulomb interactions between localised states in a potential barrier by measuring resonant-tunneling spectra with a small bias applied along the barrier. In the ohmic regime the conductance of 0.2um--gate lateral GaAs microstructures shows distinct peaks associated with individual localised states. However, when an electric field is applied new states start contributing to the current, which becomes a correlated electron flow through two interacting localised states. Several situations of such correlations have been observed, and the conclusions are confirmed by calculation…
The problem of resonant transport of strongly interacting electrons through a one-dimensional single-level vibrating quantum dot is being considered. In this paper, we generalize the Komnik and Gogolin model [Phys. Rev. Lett., 90, 246403, (2003)] for the single-electron transistor with g=1/2 Luttinger liquid leads to the case of a strong electron-vibron interaction in a quantum dot. The effective transmission coefficient and differential conductance of the system has been derived for the general case of asymmetric tunnel barriers. The main result obtained is that, in the zero-temperature limit…
A strong-to-weak-coupling duality is established for the nonequilibrium interacting resonant-level model, describing tunneling through a single spinless level, capacitively coupled to two leads by a contact interaction. For large capacitive coupling, U, and in the presence of a finite voltage bias, the model maps onto an equivalent model with a small capacitive coupling ρU' \sim 1/ ρU. Here ρis the conduction-electron density of states. This duality is generic to all high-energy cutoff schemes, however its details may vary from one regularization scheme to another. In particular, it has the st…
Non-equilibrium bosonization technique is used to study current fluctuations of interacting electrons in a single-channel quantum wire representing a Luttinger liquid (LL) conductor. An exact expression for the full counting statistics of the transmitted charge is derived. It is given by Fredholm determinant of the counting operator with a time dependent scattering phase. The result has a form of counting statistics of non-interacting particles with fractional charges, induced by scattering off the boundaries between the LL wire and the non-interacting leads.
We develop a new perturbative method for studying any steady states of quantum impurities, in or out of equilibrium. We show that steady-state averages are completely fixed by basic properties of the steady-state (Hershfield's) density matrix along with dynamical "impurity conditions". This gives the full perturbative expansion without Feynman diagrams (matrix products instead are used), and "re-sums" into an equilibrium average that may lend itself to numerical procedures. We calculate the universal current in the interacting resonant level model (IRLM) at finite bias V to first order in Coul…
We derive the large deviation function, which provides the large-time full counting statistics for the charge transfer, in the non-equilibrium steady state of the resonant-level model. The general form of this function in free fermion models, in terms of transmission coefficients, was proposed by Levitov and Lesovik in 1993 using a particular measurement set-up involving an interacting spin. It was later suggested to hold as well for a proper quantum mechanical measurement of the transferred charge. We give a precise proof of both statements in the resonant-level model. We first give a full de…
We present an analysis of transport properties of a system consisting of two half-infinite interacting one-dimensional wires connected to a single fermionic site, the energy of which is subject to a periodic time modulation. Using the properties of the exactly solvable Toulouse point we derive an integral equation for the localised level Keldysh Green's function which governs the behaviour of the linear conductance. We investigate this equation numerically and analytically in various limits. The period-averaged conductance G displays a surprisingly rich behaviour depending on the parameters of…
Using conformal field theory and integrability ideas, we give a full characterization of the low temperature regime of the anisotropic interacting resonant level (IRLM) model. We determine the low temperature corrections to the linear conductance exactly up to the 6th order. We show that the structure displays 'Coulomb deblocking' at resonance, i.e., a strong impurity-wire capacitive coupling enhances the conductance at low temperature.
Using a real-time renormalization group method we study the minimal model of a quantum dot dominated by charge fluctuations, the two-lead interacting resonant level model, at finite bias voltage. We develop a set of RG equations to treat the case of weak and strong charge fluctuations, together with the determination of power-law exponents up to second order in the Coulomb interaction. We derive analytic expressions for the charge susceptibility, the steady-state current and the conductance in the situation of arbitrary system parameters, in particular away from the particle-hole symmetric poi…
We present a method for computing the full probability distribution function of quadratic observables for the Fermi-Hubbard model within the framework of determinantal quantum Monte Carlo. Especially, in cold atoms experiments with single site resolution, such full counting statistics can be obtained from repeated projective measurements. We demonstrate, that the full counting statistics can provide important information on the size of preformed pairs. Furthermore, we compute the full counting statistics of the staggered magnetization in the repulsive Hubbard model at half filling and find exc…
Resonant Raman scattering of degenerate interacting two-channel quantum wire is studied. {\it All} collective excitations of two-channel quantum wire are shown to give rise to peaks in the polarized Raman spectra near resonance. If there exist certain symmetries among interactions, a resonant peak can also appear in the {\it depolarized} Raman spectra, in constrast to the single-channel case studied by Sassetti and Kramer. We also calculate the explicit form of the scattering cross-section away from the peaks. The above features may be experimentally verified in armchair carbon nanotube system…
We investigate a model of a single resonant level coupled to the edge of a quantum wire in the Luttinger liquid phase or to the middle of a chiral Luttinger liquid via both tunneling and a contact interaction. Utilizing the Yuval-Anderson approach, we map this model onto a classical 1D Coulomb gas in which all the details of both the interactions in the lead and the level-lead interaction enter only through the corresponding Fermi-edge singularity exponent, which we explicitly evaluate using the Bethe ansatz solution for a particular model of the lead. Thus the population, dynamical capacitanc…
A triangular lattice with onsite Coulomb interaction $U$ present only on one sub-lattice, is periodically driven by electromagnetic field with a frequency $Ω\gg (t,~U)$ at half filling. In this high frequency limit, the electromagnetic vector potential, with an amplitude $A$, modifies the bare hopping and generates new next nearest neighbour hopping parameters. For $U=0$, the driving acts like an emergent intrinsic spin-orbit coupling term and stabilises three dispersive bands with the lower and upper bands having non zero Chern numbers. Within a slave rotor mean field theory, we show that whi…
We present an exact diagrammatic approach for the problem of dimer-dimer scattering in 3D for dimers being a resonant bound state of two fermions in a spin-singlet state, with corresponding scattering length $a_F$. Applying this approach to the calculation of the dimer-dimer scattering length $a_B$, we recover exactly the already known result $a_B=0.60 a_F$. We use the developed approach to obtain new results in 2D for fermions as well as for bosons. Namely, we calculate bound state energies for three $bbb$ and four $bbbb$ resonantly interacting bosons in 2D. For the case of resonant interacti…
We study the nonlinear steady-state transport of spinless fermions through a quantum dot with a local two-particle interaction. The dot degree of freedom is in addition coupled to a phonon mode. This setup combines the nonequilibrium physics of the interacting resonant level model and that of the Anderson-Holstein model. The fermion-fermion interaction defies a perturbative treatment. We mainly focus on the antiadiabatic limit, with the phonon frequency being larger than the lead-dot tunneling rate. In this regime also the fermion-boson coupling cannot be treated perturbatively. Our goal is tw…
We consider spectroscopies of strongly interacting atomic gases, and we propose a model for describing the coupling between quasiparticles and gapless phonon-like modes. Our model explains features in a wide range of different experiments in both fermionic and bosonic atom gases in various spectroscopic methods.
We present results of the impurity local density of states of the interacting resonant level model at zero temperature. We concentrate on low-energy properties and predominantly use the numerical renormalisation group technique. As interaction is increased, we find that the resonance peak at zero energy disappears, while two new peaks at finite energy emerge. This is in the absence of any field breaking the resonance. We further show that the height of the spectral function does not scale in the same way as the width, and in fact defines a second distinct exponent. We back up our results with …
We consider the problem of a single level quantum dot coupled to the edge of a one-dimensional Luttinger liquid wire by both a hopping term and electron-electron interactions. Using bosonization and Coulomb gas mapping of the Anderson-Yuval type we show that thermodynamic properties of the level, in particular, its occupation, depend on the various interactions in the system only through a single quantity --- the corresponding Fermi edge singularity exponent. However, dynamical properties, such as the level density of states, depend in a different way on each type of interaction. Hence, we can…
We generalize the fermionic renormalization group method to describe analytically transport through a double barrier structure in a one-dimensional system. Focusing on the case of weakly interacting electrons, we investigate thoroughly the dependence of the conductance on the strength and the shape of the double barrier for arbitrary temperature T. Our approach allows us to systematically analyze the contributions to renormalized scattering amplitudes from different characteristic scales absent in the case of a single impurity, without restricting the consideration to the model of a single res…
We present further developments of the auxiliary master equation approach (AMEA), a numerical method to simulate many-body quantum systems in as well as out of equilibrium, and apply it to the Interacting Resonant Level Model (IRLM) to benchmark the new developments. In particular, our results are obtained by employing the stochastic wave functions (SWF) method to solve the auxiliary open quantum system arising within AMEA. This development allows to reach extremely low wall-times for the calculation of correlation functions with respect to previous implementations of AMEA. An additional signi…
We evaluate the non-equilibrium single particle Green's functions in the steady state of the interacting resonant level model (IRLM) under the effect of an applied bias voltage. Employing the so-called auxiliary master equation approach, we present accurate nonperturbative results for the non-equilibrium spectral and effective distribution functions, as well as for the current-voltage characteristics. We find a drastic change of these spectral properties between the regimes of low and high bias voltages and discuss the relation of these changes to the negative differential conductance (NDC), a…
We study transport at finite bias, i.e. beyond the linear regime, through two interacting resonant levels connected by a Fermi sea, by means of time-dependent density matrix renormalization group. We first consider methodological issues, like the protocol that leads to a current-currying state and the characterization of the steady state. At finite sizes both the current and the occupations of the interacting levels oscillate as a function of time. We determine the amplitude and period of such oscillations as a function of bias. We find that the occupations on the two dots oscillate with a rel…
Using time-dependent density matrix renormalization group calculations we study the transport properties ($I-V$ curves and shot noise) of the interacting resonant level model (IRLM) in a large range of the interaction parameter $U$, in the scaling limit. We find that these properties can be described remarkably well by those of the Boundary sine-Gordon model (BSG), which are known analytically (Fendley, Ludwig and Saleur, 1995). We argue that the two models are nevertheless in different universality classes out of equilibrium: this requires a delicate discussion of their infra-red (IR) propert…
We investigate equilibrium and steady-state non-equilibrium transport properties of a spinless resonant level locally coupled to two conduction bands of width ~Γvia a Coulomb interaction U and a hybridization t'. In order to study the effects of finite bias voltages beyond linear response, a generalization of the functional renormalization group to Keldysh frequency space is employed. Being mostly unexplored in the context of quantum impurity systems out of equilibrium, we benchmark this method against recently-published time-dependent density matrix renormalization group data. We thoroughly i…
We investigate the thermodynamics and transient dynamics of the (unbiased) Ohmic two-state system by exploiting the equivalence of this model to the interacting resonant level model. For the thermodynamics, we show, by using the numerical renormalization group (NRG) method, how the universal specific heat and susceptibility curves evolve with increasing dissipation strength, $α$, from those of an isolated two-level system at vanishingly small dissipation strength, with the characteristic activated-like behavior in this limit, to those of the isotropic Kondo model in the limit $α\to 1^{-}$. For…
We develop a low-order conserving approximation for the interacting resonant-level model (IRLM), and apply it to (i) thermal equilibrium, (ii) nonequilibrium steady state, and (iii) nonequilibrium quench dynamics. Thermal equilibrium is first used to carefully gauge the quality of the approximation by comparing the results with other well-studied methods, and finding good agreement for small values of the interaction. We analytically show that the power-law exponent of the renormalized level width usually derived using renormalization group approaches can also be correctly obtained in our appr…
Resonant tunneling through a quantum dot coupled to superconducting reservoirs in the presence of time-dependent external voltage has been studied. A general formula of the current is derived based on the nonequilibrium Green's function technique. Using this formula photon-assisted quasiparticle transport has been investigated for the quantum dot connected to superconductors. In addition, resonant Andreev transport through a strongly correlated quantum dot connected to a normal metallic lead and a superconducting lead is studied.
In this paper we develop a method to describe perturbatively the entanglement entropy in a simple impurity model, the interacting resonant level model (IRLM), at low energy (i.e. in the strong coupling regime). We use integrability results or the Kondo model to describe the infra-red fixed point, conformal field theory techniques initially developped by Cardy and Calabrese and a quantization scheme that allows one to compute exactly Renyi entropies at arbitrary order in $1/T_B$ in principle, even when the system size or the temperature is finite. We show that those universal quantities at arbi…
We study non-hermitian many-body physics in the interacting Hatano-Nelson model with open boundary condition. The violation of reciprocity, resulting from an imaginary vector potential, induces the non-hermitian skin-effect and causes exponential localization for all single particle eigenfunctions in the non-interacting limit. Nevertheless, the density profile of the interacting system becomes only slightly tilted relative to the average filling. The Friedel oscillations exhibit a beating pattern due to the modification of the Fermi wavenumber. The probability distribution of particles over an…
We study the full counting statistics of charge transport through a quantum dot tunnel-coupled to one normal and one superconducting lead with a large superconducting gap. As function of the level detuning, there is a crossover from a regime with strong superconducting correlations in the quantum dot to a regime in which the proximity effect on the quantum dot is suppressed. We analyze the current fluctuations of this crossover in the shot-noise regime. In particular, we predict that the full counting statistics changes from Poissonian with charge 2e, typical for Cooper pairs, to Poissonian wi…
We study the steady-state properties as well as the relaxation dynamics of the nonequilibrium interacting resonant level model at finite temperatures. It constitutes the prototype model of a correlated charge fluctuating quantum dot. The two reservoirs are held at different chemical potentials---the difference being the bias voltage---and different temperatures; we discuss the transport through as well as the occupancy of the single level dot. First, we show analytically that in the steady state the reservoir temperatures in competition with the other energy scales act as infrared cutoffs. Thi…
We investigate a Bose-Einstein condensate in strong interaction with a single impurity particle. While this situation has received considerable interest in recent years, the regime of strong coupling remained inaccessible to most approaches due to an instability in Bogoliubov theory arising near the resonance. We present a nonlocal extension of Gross-Pitaevskii theory that is free of such divergences and does not require the use of the Born approximation in any of the interaction potentials. We find a new dynamical transition regime between attractive and repulsive polarons, where an interacti…
A modified version of the spinless Anderson model is studied by means of the continuous-time quantum Monte Carlo method. This study is motivated by the peculiar heavy-fermion behavior observed in certain Samarium compounds, which is insensitive to magnetic field. The model involves M channels for conduction electrons, all of which interact with local f electron via the Coulomb repulsion Ufc, while only one channel has hybridization with the local state. The effective hybridization is reduced by the Anderson orthogonality effect, and a quantum critical point occurs with increasing M and/or incr…
We develop a procedure which systematically generates all conserved operators in the disordered models of interacting fermions. Among these operators, we identify and count the independent and local integrals of motion (LIOM) which represent the hallmark of the many-body localization (MBL). The method is tested first on the prototype disordered chain of interacting spinless fermions. As expected for full MBL, we find for large enough disorder $N_M=2^M-1$ independent and quasi-local LIOM with support on $M$ consecutive sites. On the other hand, the study of the disordered Hubbard chain reveals …
