A strong-to-weak-coupling duality is established for the nonequilibrium interacting resonant-level model, describing tunneling through a single spinless level, capacitively coupled to two leads by a contact interaction. For large capacitive coupling, U, and in the presence of a finite voltage bias, the model maps onto an equivalent model with a small capacitive coupling ρU' \sim 1/ ρU. Here ρis the conduction-electron density of states. This duality is generic to all high-energy cutoff schemes, however its details may vary from one regularization scheme to another. In particular, it has the status of an exact mapping within Abelian bosonization, applicable to all repulsive interactions whether weak, intermediate or strong. On a lattice the mapping is restricted to large U, and is controlled by the small parameter 1/ρU. Explicit expressions are given for the low-energy scale, differential conductance, and occupancy of the level in the limit where U is large.
Nonequilibrium properties of correlated quantum matter are being intensively investigated because of the rich interplay between external driving and the many-body correlations. Of particular interest is the nonequilibrium behavior near a quantum critical point (QCP), where the system is delicately balanced between different ground states. We present both an analytical calculation of the nonequilibrium steady-state current in a critical system and experimental results to which the theory is compared. The system is a quantum dot coupled to resistive leads: a spinless resonant level interacting w…
We perform an ab-initio comparison between nonequilibrium dynamical mean-field theory and optical lattice experiments by studying the time evolution of double occupations in the periodically driven Fermi-Hubbard model. For off-resonant driving, the range of validity of a description in terms of an effective static Hamiltonian is determined and its breakdown due to energy absorption close to resonance is demonstrated. For near-resonant driving, we investigate the response to a change in driving amplitude and discover an asymmetric excitation spectrum with respect to the detuning. In general, we…
Resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) detects various types of high- and low-energy elementary excitations in correlated solids, and this tool will play an increasingly important role in investigations of time-dependent phenomena in photo-excited systems. While theoretical frameworks for the computation of equilibrium RIXS spectra are well established, the development of appropriate methods for nonequilibrium simulations are an active research field. Here, we apply a recently developed nonequilibrium dynamical mean field theory (DMFT) based approach to compute the RIXS response of photo-e…
We use the nonequilibrium dynamical mean field theory formalism to compute the equilibrium and nonequilibrium resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) signal of a strongly interacting fermionic lattice model with a coupling of dispersionless phonons to the total charge on a given site. In the atomic limit, this model produces phonon subbands in the spectral function, but not in the RIXS signal. Electron hopping processes however result in phonon-related modifications of the charge excitation peak. We discuss the equilibrium RIXS spectra and the characteristic features of nonequilibrium state…
We extend the general formalism discussed in the previous paper [A. B. Culver and N. Andrei, Phys. Rev. B 103, 195106 (2021)] to two models with charge fluctuations: the interacting resonant level model and the Anderson impurity model. In the interacting resonant level model, we find the exact time-evolving wavefunction and calculate the steady state impurity occupancy to leading order in the interaction. In the Anderson impurity model, we find the nonequilibrium steady state for small or large Coulomb repulsion $U$, and we find that the steady state current to leading order in $U$ agrees with…
We study the nonlinear steady-state transport of spinless fermions through a quantum dot with a local two-particle interaction. The dot degree of freedom is in addition coupled to a phonon mode. This setup combines the nonequilibrium physics of the interacting resonant level model and that of the Anderson-Holstein model. The fermion-fermion interaction defies a perturbative treatment. We mainly focus on the antiadiabatic limit, with the phonon frequency being larger than the lead-dot tunneling rate. In this regime also the fermion-boson coupling cannot be treated perturbatively. Our goal is tw…
