A simple explanation of the W+dijet excess recently reported by the CDF collaboration involves the introduction of a new gauge boson with sizable couplings to quarks, but with no or highly suppressed couplings to leptons. Anomaly-free theories which include such a leptophobic gauge boson must also include additional particle content, which may include a stable and otherwise viable candidate for dark matter. Based on the couplings and mass of the Z' required to generate the CDF excess, we predict such a dark matter candidate to possess an elastic scattering cross section with nucleons on the order of sigma ~ 10^-40 cm^2, providing a natural explanation for the signals reported by the CoGeNT and DAMA/LIBRA collaborations. In this light, CDF may be observing the gauge boson responsible for the force which mediates the interactions between the dark and visible matter of our universe.
Direct detection of dark matter (DM) requires an interaction of dark matter particles with nucleons. The same interaction can lead to dark matter pair production at a hadron collider, and with the addition of initial state radiation this may lead to mono-jet signals. Mono-jet searches at the Tevatron can thus place limits on DM direct detection rates. We study these bounds both in the case where there is a contact interaction between DM and the standard model and where there is a mediator kinematically accessible at the Tevatron. We find that in many cases the Tevatron provides the current bes…
We determine the prospects for finding dark matter at the Tevatron and LHC through the production of exotic 4th generation quarks T' that decay through T' \to t X, where X is dark matter. The resulting signal of t \bar{t} + \met has not previously been considered in searches for 4th generation quarks, but there are both general and specific dark matter motivations for this signal, and with slight modifications, this analysis applies to any scenario where invisible particles are produced in association with top quarks. Current direct and indirect bounds on such exotic quarks restrict their mass…
Recently, several astrophysical data or would-be signals has been observed in different dark-matter oriented experiments. In each case, one could fit the data at the price of specific nature of the coupling between the Standard Model (SM) particles and a light Dark Matter candidate: hadrophobic (INTEGRAL, PAMELA) or leptophobic (WMAP Haze, dijet anomalies of CDF, FERMI Galactic Center observation). In this work, we show that when one takes into account the more recent LEP and Tevatron analysis, a light thermal fermionic Dark Matte (\lesssim 10 GeV) that couples to electrons is mainly ruled out…
A review of searches for physics beyond the Standard Model carried out at high energy lepton-hadron and hadron-hadron facilities is presented, with emphasis on topics of interest for future data taking at the upgraded Tevatron $p{\bar p}$ and HERA $ep$ colliders. The status and discovery prospects are discussed for leptoquarks, Technicolour and supersymmetry, forbidden lepton and quark flavour-changing processes, extra gauge bosons, excited states of composite fermions, generic contact interactions and extra compactified dimensions.
Searches for the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) Higgs bosons are among the most promising channels for exploring new physics at the Tevatron. In particular, interesting regions of large $\tan β$ and small $m_A$ are probed by searches for heavy neutral Higgs bosons, A and H, when they decay to $τ^+ τ^-$ and $b\bar{b}$. At the same time, direct searches for dark matter, such as CDMS, attempt to observe neutralino dark matter particles scattering elastically off nuclei. This can occur through t-channel Higgs exchange, which has a large cross section in the case of large $\tan β$ and…
We study the interactions of a new spin-1 mediator that connects the Standard Model to dark matter. We constrain its decay channels using monojet and monophoton searches, as well as searches for resonances in dijet, dilepton and diboson final states including those involving a possible Higgs. We then interpret the resulting limits as bounds on the cross-section for dark matter direct detection without the need to specify a particular model. For mediator masses between 300 and 1000 GeV these bounds are considerably stronger than the ones obtained under the assumption that the mediator can be in…
We analyze the accelerator constraints on the parameter space of the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model, comparing those now available from LEP II and anticipating the likely sensitivity of Tevatron Run II. The most important limits are those from searches for charginos, neutralinos and Higgs bosons at LEP, and searches for stop squarks, charginos and neutralinos at the Tevatron Collider. We also incorporate the constraints derived from b --> s + gamma decay, and discuss the relevance of charge- and colour-breaking minima in the effective potential. We combine and compare t…
In this letter, we investigate the production of light dark matter particles at LHC in light of the model (N = 2 SUSY inspired) proposed in Ref. [1] and demonstrate that they will be copiously produced if the colored messengers Fq are lighter than 1 TeV. We expect up to a million events if the Fq mass is about 500 GeV, assuming a ~1 inverse fb luminosity. In addition, we show that, even if the Fq mass is above a few TeV, searches for Fq production at LHC are promising because a kinematical signature can be used to separate the signal from background. This signature is similar to that expected …
In supersymmetric models where the magnitude of the GUT scale gaugino mass parameter M_3 is suppressed relative to M_1 and M_2, the lightest neutralino can be a mixed higgsino-bino state with a thermal relic abundance in agreement with the WMAP central value for Ω_{\rm CDM} h^2 and consistent with all other phenomenological constraints. In these models, the gluino can be as light as 200 GeV without conflicting with the LEP2 bounds on the chargino mass. Thus, gluino pair production can be accessible at the Fermilab Tevatron at high rates. In this framework, gluinos decay radiatively with a larg…
The search for the top squark ($\widetilde{t}_{1}$) within the kinematic reach of Tevatron Run II is of great contemporary interest. Such a $\widetilde{t}_{1}$ can explain the baryon asymmetry of the universe provided $120 ~GeV/c^{2} \leq m_{\widetilde{t}_{1}} \leq m_t$. Moreover if $Δm \equiv m_{\widetilde{t}_{1}}$ - $m_{\widetildeχ_1^0}$ is small, where $\widetildeχ_1^0$ is the LSP, the dark matter relic density as obtained from the WMAP data may be explained via $\widetilde{t}_{1}$- LSP coannihilation. In this scenario the decay $\widetilde{t}_{1} \to c \widetildeχ_1^0$ is likely to occur w…
We show that colliders can impose strong constraints on models of dark matter, in particular when the dark matter is light. We analyze models where the dark matter is a fermion or scalar interacting with quarks and/or gluons through an effective theory containing higher dimensional operators which represent heavier states that have been integrated out of the effective field theory. We determine bounds from existing Tevatron searches for monojets as well as expected LHC reaches for a discovery. We find that colliders can provide information which is complementary or in some cases even superior …
Phenomenologically viable and interesting regions of parameter space in the minimal super-gravity (mSUGRA) model with small $m_0$ and small $m_{1/2}$ consistent with the WMAP data on dark matter relic density and the bound on the mass of the lightest Higgs scalar $ m_h>$ 114 GeV from LEP2 open up if the rather adhoc assumption $A_0$=0, where $A_0$ is the common trilinear soft breaking parameter, employed in most of the existing analyses is relaxed. Since this region corresponds to relatively light squarks and gluinos which are likely to be probed extensively in the very early stages of the LHC…
In this article, we explore the interplay between searches for supersymmetric particles and Higgs bosons at hadron colliders (the Tevatron and the LHC) and direct dark matter searches (such as CDMS, ZEPLIN, XENON, EDELWEISS, CRESST, WARP and others). We focus on collider searches for heavy MSSM Higgs bosons ($A$, $H$, $H^{\pm}$) and how the prospects for these searches are impacted by direct dark matter limits and vice versa. We find that the prospects of these two experimental programs are highly interrelated. A positive detection of $A$, $H$ or $H^{\pm}$ at the Tevatron would dramatically en…
A two flavor color sextet quark sector added to QCD yields the {\it uniquely} unitary Critical Pomeron at high energy while also producing electroweak symmetry breaking. In this paper it is argued that a number of experimental phenomena in Cosmic Ray and hadron collider physics can be interpreted as evidence for the sextet sector. These phenomena include (1) Top quark production is via the eta_6 sextet quark pseudoscalar resonance - interference with the background will produce an asymmetry. (2) Longitudinal Z pairs, produced as sextet pions, provide a high mass excess cross-section that inclu…
Searches for supersymmetry are among the most exciting physics goals at Run II of the Tevatron. In particular, in supersymmetric models with light charginos, neutralinos and sleptons, associated chargino--neutralino production can potentially be observed as multi-lepton events with missing energy. We discuss how, in the generic TeV-scale MSSM, the prospects for these chargino-neutralino searches are impacted by cosmological considerations, namely the neutralino relic abundance and direct detection limits. We also discuss what an observation of chargino-neutralino production at the Tevatron wou…
The constraints on neutralino dark matter χobtained from accelerator searches at LEP, the Fermilab Tevatron and elsewhere are reviewed, with particular emphasis on results from LEP 1.5. These imply within the context of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model that m_χ\ge 21.4 GeV if universality is assumed, and yield for large tanβa significantly stronger bound than is obtained indirectly from Tevatron limits on the gluino mass. We update this analysis with preliminary results from the first LEP 2W run, and also preview the prospects for future sparticle searches at the LHC.
New gauge bosons with Standard Model-like couplings to leptons are constrained by collider searches to be heavier than approximately ~1 TeV. A Z' boson with suppressed couplings to leptons, however, could be much lighter and possess substantial couplings to Standard Model quarks. In this article, we consider a new leptophobic Z' gauge boson as a simple and well motivated extension of the Standard Model, and discuss several of its possible signatures at the Tevatron. We find that three of the recent anomalies reported from the Tevatron - in particular the top-quark forward-backward asymmetry an…
Sparticle landscapes in mSUGRA, in SUGRA models with nonuniversalities (NUSUGRA), and in D brane models are analyzed. The analysis exhibits the existence of Higgs Mass Patterns (HPs) (for $μ>0$) where the CP odd Higgs could be the next heavier particle beyond the LSP and sometimes even lighter than the LSP. It is shown that the Higgs production cross sections from the HPs are typically the largest enhancing the prospects for their detection at the LHC. Indeed it is seen that the recent Higgs production limits from CDF/DØ are beginning to put constraints on the HPs. It is also seen that the $B_…
There exist several classes of theories beyond the Standard Model which contain massive spin-1 color octets, generically called "colorons". Indeed we argue that colorons inevitably appear in the spectrum whenever new colored particles feel an additional confining force. Colorons are distinctive at hadron colliders as this is the only environment in which they can be resonantly produced. In the simplest models we show that the coloron naturally decays to multijets via secondary resonances, which can be consistent with all existing bounds, even for colorons as light as a few hundred GeV. We perf…
A dilaton could be the dominant messenger between Standard Model fields and dark matter. The measured dark matter relic abundance relates the dark matter mass and spin to the conformal breaking scale. The dark matter-nucleon spin-independent cross section is predicted in terms of the dilaton mass. We compute the current constraints on the dilaton from LEP and Tevatron experiments, and the gamma-ray signal from dark matter annihilation to dilatons that could be observed by Fermi-LAT.
We consider new signatures of WIMPless dark matter, particularly those which can be used to test models with low dark matter mass. We focus on detection prospects at hadron colliders through the production of new heavy QCD-coupled particles, which decay to WIMPless dark matter plus jets. We find that the Tevatron can probe a significant fraction of the low mass parameter space with data already taken, and the LHC will have even better detection prospects with its first physics run.
Giving up the assumption of the gaugino mass unification at the GUT scale, the latest LEP and Tevatron data still allow the lightest supersymmetric Higgs to have a large branching fraction into invisible neutralinos. Such a Higgs may be difficult to discover at the LHC and is practically unreachable at the Tevatron. We argue that, for some of these models to be compatible with the relic density, light sleptons with masses not far above the current limits are needed. There are however models that allow for larger sleptons masses without being in conflict with the relic density constraint. This …
An effective interaction approach is used to describe the interactions between the spin 0 or spin 1/2 dark matter particle and the degrees of freedom of the standard model. This approach is applicable to those models in which the dark matter particles do not experience the standard-model interactions, e.g., hidden-sector models. We explore the effects of these effective interaction operators on (i) dark matter relic density, (ii) spin-independent and spin-dependent dark matter-nucleon scattering cross sections, (iii) cosmic antiproton and gamma ray fluxes from the galactic halo due to dark mat…
The new measurement of the $W$ boson mass performed by the CDF experiment at the Tevatron shows a significant deviation not only with the expectation in the Standard Model but also with other precision measurements performed at LEP, the Tevatron and the LHC. We nevertheless take this new measurement at face value and interpret it as an effect of new physics. We particularly try to link it with other possible anomalies such as the recent muon $g-2$ and consider a scenario that addresses some shortcomings of the Standard Model. We show that a model with two doublets and a light pseudoscalar Higg…
This paper investigates the collider phenomenolgy of a minimal nonthermal dark matter model with a 1-GeV dark matter candidate, which naturally explain baryongensis. Since the light dark matter is not parity-protected, it can be singly produced at the LHC. This leads to large missing energy associated with an energetic jet whose transverse momentum distribution is featured by a Jacobian-like shape. The monojet, dijet, paired dijet and 2 jets + missing energy channels are studied. Currently existing data at Tevatron and LHC offer significant bounds on our model.
We perform a phenomenological fit to all ATLAS, CMS, CDF and D0 Higgs boson data available after Moriond 2012. We allow all Higgs boson branching fractions, its couplings to standard model particles, as well as to an hypothetical invisible sector to vary freely, and determine their current favourite values. The standard model Higgs boson with a mass 125 GeV correctly predicts the average observed rate and provides an acceptable global fit to data. However, better fits are obtained by non-standard scenarios that reproduce anomalies in the present data (more γγ and less WW signals than expected)…
We re-analyze proton beam dump data taken at the U70 accelerator at IHEP Serpukhov with the $ν$-calorimeter I experiment in 1989 to set mass-coupling limits for dark gauge forces. The corresponding data have been used for axion and light Higgs particle searches in Refs. before. We determine new mass and coupling exclusion bounds for dark gauge bosons.
We point out a novel role for the Standard Model neutrino in dark matter phenomenology where the exchange of neutrinos generates a long-range potential between dark matter particles. The resulting dark matter self interaction could be sufficiently strong to impact small-scale structure formation, without the need of any dark force carrier. This is a generic feature of theories where dark matter couples to the visible sector through the neutrino portal. It is highly testable with improved decay rate measurements at future $Z$, Higgs, and $τ$ factories, as well as precision cosmology.
We revisit MSSM scenarios with light neutralino as a dark matter candidate in view of the latest LHC and dark matter direct and indirect detection experiments. We show that scenarios with a very light neutralino (~ 10 GeV) and a scalar bottom quark close in mass, can satisfy all the available constraints from LEP, Tevatron, LHC, flavour and low energy experiments and provide solutions in agreement with the bulk of dark matter direct detection experiments, and in particular with the recent CDMS results.
We re-analyze published proton beam dump data taken at the U70 accelerator at IHEP Serpukhov with the $ν$-calorimeter I experiment in 1989 to set mass-coupling limits for dark gauge forces. The corresponding data have been used for axion and light Higgs particle searches in Refs. \cite{Blumlein:1990ay,Blumlein:1991xh} before. More recently, limits on dark gauge forces have been derived from this data set, considering a dark photon production from $π^0$-decay \cite{Blumlein:2011mv}. Here we determine extended mass and coupling exclusion bounds for dark gauge bosons ranging to masses $m_{γ'}$ of…
We discuss the Higgs inflation scenario with singlet scalar dark matter and a right-handed neutrino. The singlet scalar and the right-handed neutrino play crucial roles for realizing a suitable plateau of Higgs potential with the center value of the top mass of Tevatron and LHC measurements. This Higgs inflation scenario predicts about a 1 TeV scalar dark matter and an $\mathcal{O}(10^{14})$ GeV right-handed neutrino by use of 125.6 GeV Higgs mass, 173.34 GeV top mass, and a nonminimal gravity coupling $ξ\simeq10.1$. This inflation model is consistent with the recent result of the tensor-to-sc…
A dark force can impact the cosmological history of dark matter (DM), both explaining observed cores in dwarf galaxies and setting the DM relic density through annihilation to dark force bosons. For GeV - TeV DM mass, DM self-scattering in dwarf galaxy halos exhibits quantum mechanical resonances, analogous to a Sommerfeld enhancement for annihilation. We show that a simple model of DM with a dark force can accommodate all astrophysical bounds on self-interactions in halos and explain the observed relic density, through a single coupling constant.
We consider the prospects of supersymmetric dark matter in light of the recent results announced by the CDMS experiments. In this paper, we investigate the status of: (i) neutralino dark matter in models of minimal supergravity, (ii) neutralino dark matter in models with nonuniversal Higgs masses, and (iii) sneutrino dark matter in the U(1)_{B-L} extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model; and discuss the predictions of these models for the LHC, Tevatron, IceCube and PAMELA.
We examine the possibility that dark matter may be the manifestation of dark forces of a hidden sector, i.e. "Dark Force = Dark Matter." As an illustrative and minimal example we consider the hidden SU(2)_h x U(1)_h gauge group. The hidden dynamics is indirectly coupled to the Standard Model (SM) through kinetic mixing of U(1)_h with the U(1)_Y of hypercharge. We assume a hidden symmetry breaking pattern analogous to that of the SM electroweak symmetry, augmented with an extra scalar that allows both the "hidden Z boson" Z_h and the "hidden photon" γ_h to be massive. The "hidden W" bosons W_h …
A long-range ``dark force'' has recently been proposed to mediate the dark matter (DM) annihilation. If DM particles are copiously produced at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the light dark force mediator will also be produced through radiation. We demonstrate how and how precise we can utilize this fact to measure the coupling constant of the dark force. The light mediator's mass is measured from the ``lepton jet'' it decays to. In addition, the mass of the DM particle is determined using the MT2 technique. Knowing these quantities is critical for calculating the DM relic density.
We perform a fit to the recent Xenon100 data and study its implications for Dark Matter scenarios. We find that Inelastic Dark Matter is disfavoured as an explana- tion to the DAMA/LIBRA annual modulation signal. Concerning the scalar singlet DM model, we find that the Xenon100 data disfavors its constrained limit. We study the CMSSM as well as the low scale phenomenological MSSM taking into account latest Tevatron and LHC data (1.1/fb) about sparticles and Bs \rightarrow μμ. After the EPS 2011 conference, LHC excludes the "Higgs-resonance" region of DM freeze-out and Xenon100 disfavors the "w…
We investigate the viability of light neutralino scenarios as promoted by dark matter direct detection experiments. Using high statistics scans in the pMSSM we have identified several scenarios which give rise to very light neutralinos with large direct detection scattering cross sections. Our results are challenged with constraints from dark matter relic density, direct detection, indirect detection, as well as flavour physics, electroweak precision tests, LEP and Tevatron limits, LHC limits on SUSY, Higgs and monojet searches. In particular we study the effect of a Higgs boson in the range 1…
Motivated by the recent proliferation of observed astrophysical anomalies, Arkani-Hamed et al. have proposed a model in which dark matter is charged under a non-abelian "dark" gauge symmetry that is broken at ~ 1 GeV. In this paper, we present a survey of concrete models realizing such a scenario, followed by a largely model-independent study of collider phenomenology relevant to the Tevatron and the LHC. We address some model building issues that are easily surmounted to accommodate the astrophysics. While SUSY is not necessary, we argue that it is theoretically well-motivated because the GeV…
We examine the status of light neutralinos in an effective Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM) at the electroweak scale which was considered in the past and discussed in terms of the available data of direct searches for dark matter (DM) particles. Our reanalysis is prompted by new measurements at the Tevatron and B-factories which might potentially provide significant constraints on the MSSM model. Here we examine in detail all these new data and show that the present published results from the Tevatron and B-factories have only a mild effect on the original light ne…
Composite Higgs Models are very appealing candidates for a natural realization of electroweak symmetry breaking. Non minimal models could explain the recent Higgs data from ATLAS, CMS and Tevatron experiments, including the excess in the amount of diphoton events, as well as provide a natural dark matter candidate. In this article, we study a Composite Higgs model based on the coset $SO(7)/G2$. In addition to the Higgs doublet, one $SU(2)_L$ singlet of electric charge one, $κ^\pm$, as well as one singlet $η$ of the whole Standard Model group arise as pseudo-Goldstone bosons. $κ^\pm$ and $η$ ca…
We consider the possibility that the cosmological dark matter consists of particles very close in mass to new colored particles below the TeV scale. While such a scenario is inherently difficult to directly confirm at colliders, we find that indirect dark matter searches may be a powerful alternative. In particular, we show that in this case dark matter annihilation to quark-quark-gluon final states can give rise to significant antiproton (but also gamma-ray) fluxes, and compare the resulting constraints to bounds from direct searches at LEP, the Tevatron and the LHC. For supersymmetric neutra…
We perform a detailed study of the dark Z' portal using a generic parametrization of the Z'-quarks couplings, both for light (8-15)GeV and heavy (130-1000)GeV dark matter scenarios. We present a comprehensive study of the collider phenomenology including jet clustering, hadronization, and detector artifacts, which allows us to derive accurate bounds from the search for new resonances in dijet events and from mono-jet events in the LHC 7TeV, LHC 8TeV, and Tevatron 1.96 TeV data. We also compute the dark matter relic abundance, the relevant scattering cross sections and pair-annihilation spectru…
Recent data on $e^+/e^-$ and $\bar{p}$ cosmic rays suggest that dark matter annihilate into the standard model (SM) particles through new leptophilic interaction. In this paper, we consider a standard model extension with the gauged $U(1)_{L_μ- L_τ}$ group, with a new Dirac fermion charged under this U(1) as a dark matter. We study the muon $(g-2)_μ$, thermal relic density of the cold dark matter, and the collider signatures of this model. $Z^{'}$ productions at the Tevatron or the LHC could be easily order of $O(1)-O(10^3)$ fb.
Chameleon dark energy is a matter-coupled scalar field which hides its fifth forces locally by becoming massive. We estimate torsion pendulum constraints on the residual fifth forces due to models with gravitation-strength couplings. Experiments such as Eot-Wash are on the verge of ruling out "quantum-stable" chameleon models, in which quantum corrections to the chameleon field and mass remain small. We also consider photon-coupled chameleons, which can be tested by afterglow experiments such as CHASE.
A long range Weak Equivalence Principle (WEP) violating force between Dark Matter (DM) particles, mediated by an ultralight scalar, is tightly constrained by galactic dynamics and large scale structure formation. We examine the implications of such a "dark force" for several terrestrial experiments, including Eotvos tests of the WEP, direct-detection DM searches, and collider studies. The presence of a dark force implies a non-vanishing effect in Eotvos tests that could be probed by current and future experiments depending on the DM model. For scalar singlet DM scenarios, a dark force of astro…
We investigate scenarios in which dark matter is stabilized by an abelian Z_N discrete gauge symmetry. Models are surveyed according to symmetries and matter content. Multi-component dark matter arises when N is not prime and Z_N contains one or more subgroups. The dark sector interacts with the visible sector through the renormalizable kinetic mixing and Higgs portal operators, and we highlight the basic phenomenology in these scenarios. In particular, multiple species of dark matter can lead to an unconventional nuclear recoil spectrum in direct detection experiments, while the presence of n…
We propose a simple model where dark matter (DM) carries top flavor and couples to the Standard Model through the top quark within a framework of minimal flavor violation (MFV). Top-flavored DM can explain the anomalous top forward-backward asymmetry observed at the Tevatron, while remaining consistent with other top observables at colliders. By virtue of its large coupling to top, DM acquires a sizable loop coupling to the Z boson, and the relic density is set by annihilation through the Z. We also discuss contraints from current direct detection searches, emphasizing the role of spin-depende…
We present a new model for radiatively generating Majorana active neutrino masses while incorporating a viable dark matter candidate. This is possible by extending the Standard Model with a single Majorana neutrino endowed with a dark parity, a colour electroweak singlet scalar, as well as a colour electroweak triplet scalar. Within this framework, the $up$-type quarks play a special role, serving as a portal for dark matter, and a messenger for neutrino mass generation. We consider three benchmark scenarios where the abundance of dark matter can match the latest experimental results, while ge…
We consider a simple class of models in which the dark matter, X, is coupled to a new gauge boson, phi, with a relatively low mass (m_phi \sim 100 MeV-3 GeV). Neither the dark matter nor the new gauge boson have tree-level couplings to the Standard Model. The dark matter in this model annihilates to phi pairs, and for a coupling of g_X \sim 0.06 (m_X/10 GeV)^1/2 yields a thermal relic abundance consistent with the cosmological density of dark matter. The phi's produced in such annihilations decay through a small degree of kinetic mixing with the photon to combinations of Standard Model leptons…

Is there an unknown long-range force between dark matter (DM) and ordinary matters? When such a fifth force exists and in the case that it is ignored, the equivalence principle (EP) is violated apparently. The violation of EP was severely constrained by, for examples, the Eöt-Wash laboratory experiments, the lunar laser ranging, the MICROSCOPE satellite, and the long-term observation of binary pulsars. We discuss a recent bound that comes from PSR J1713+0747. When it is combined with the other bounds, a compelling limit on the hypothetical fifth force is derived. For the neutral hydrogen, the …
We suggest the existence of a fundamental connection between baryonic and dark matter. This is motivated by both the stability of these two types of matter as well as the observed similarity of their present-day densities. A unified genesis of baryonic and dark matter is natural in models in which the baryon number is promoted to a spontaneously broken local gauge symmetry. This is illustrated in a specific class of SUSY models using the Affleck-Dine mechanism. The dark matter candidate in these scenarios is charged under the baryon gauge symmetry and must have a mass around the GeV scale to g…
Our understanding of the Universe is known to be incomplete and new gauge forces beyond those of the Standard Model might be crucial to describing its observed properties. A minimal and well-motivated possibility is a pure Yang-Mills non-Abelian dark gauge force with no direct connection to the Standard Model. We determine here the relic abundances of the glueball bound states that arise in such theories and investigate their cosmological effects. Glueballs are first formed in a confining phase transition, and their relic densities are set by a network of annihilation and transfer reactions. T…
The DA$Φ$NE $Φ$-factory is an ideal place to search for forces beyond the Standard Model. By using the KLOE detector, limits on U-boson coupling $\varepsilon^2$ of the order of $10^{-5} ÷10^{-7}$ and on the $α_{\rm D} \times \varepsilon^2$ product have been set through the study of the $Φ$ Dalitz decay, U$γ$ events and the Higgsstrahlung process. An improvement of these limits is expected thanks to the KLOE detector and DA$Φ$NE upgrades of KLOE-2.
We study the prospects for detecting a light boson X with mass m_X < 100 MeV at a low energy electron-proton collider. We focus on the case where X dominantly decays to e+ e- as motivated by recent "dark force" models. In order to evade direct and indirect constraints, X must have small couplings to the standard model (alpha_X < 10^-8) and a sufficiently large mass (m_X >10 MeV). By comparing the signal and background cross sections for the e- p e+ e- final state, we conclude that dark force detection requires an integrated luminosity of around 1 inverse attobarn, achievable with a forthcoming…
Hints of direct dark matter detection coming from the DAMA, CoGeNT experiments point toward light dark matter with isospin-violating and possibly inelastic couplings. However an array of astrophysical constraints are rapidly closing the window on light dark matter. We point out that if the relic density is determined by annihilation into invisible states, these constraints can be evaded. As an example we present a model of quasi-Dirac dark matter, interacting via two U(1) gauge bosons, one of which couples to baryon number and the other which kinetically mixes with the photon. Annihilation is …
