In this article, we identify the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a random field solution for some linear s.p.d.e.'s of parabolic and hyperbolic type. These equations rely on a spatial operator $\cL$ given by the $L^2$-generator of a $d$-dimensional Lévy process $X=(X_t)_{t \geq 0}$, and are driven by a spatially-homogeneous Gaussian noise, which is fractional in time with Hurst index $H>1/2$. As an application, we consider the case when $X$ is a $β$-stable process, with $β\in (0,2]$. In the parabolic case, we develop a connection with the potential theory of the Markov process $\bar{X}$ (defined as the symmetrization of $X$), and we show that the existence of the solution is related to the existence of a "weighted" intersection local time of two independent copies of $\bar{X}$.
We consider the Wiener integral with respect to a $d$-parameter Hermite process with Hurst multi-index ${\bf H}= (H_{1},\ldots, H_{d}) \in \left( \frac{1}{2}, 1\right) ^{d}$ and we analyze the limit behavior in distribution of this object when the components of ${\bf H}$ tend to $1$ and/or $\frac{1}{2}$. As examples, we focus on the solution to the stochastic heat equation with additive Hermite noise and to the Hermite Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process.
In this article, we consider the quasi-linear stochastic wave and heat equations on the real line and with an additive Gaussian noise which is white in time and behaves in space like a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $H\in (0,1)$. The drift term is assumed to be globally Lipschitz. We prove that the solution of each of the above equations is continuous in terms of the index $H$, with respect to the convergence in law in the space of continuous functions.
In this article, we consider the one-dimensional stochastic wave and heat equations driven by a linear multiplicative Gaussian noise which is white in time and behaves in space like a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $H\in (\frac 14,1)$. We prove that the solution of each of the above equations is continuous in terms of the index $H$, with respect to the convergence in law in the space of continuous functions. The proof is based on a tightness criterion on the plane and Malliavin calculus techniques in order to identify the limit law.
We study stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) with potentially very rough fractional noise with Hurst parameter $H\in(0,1)$. Close to a change of stability measured with a small parameter $\varepsilon$, we rely on the natural separation of time-scales and establish a simplified description of the essential dynamics. We prove that up to an error term bounded by a power of $\varepsilon$ depending on the Hurst parameter we can approximate the solution of the SPDE in first order by an SDE, the so called amplitude equation, and in second order by a fast infinite dimensional Ornstein-Uh…
We study the existence of a unique solution to semilinear fractional backward doubly stochastic differential equation driven by a Brownian motion and a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter less than 1/2. Here the stochastic integral with respect to the fractional Brownian motion is the extended divergence operator and the one with respect to Brownian motion is Itô's backward integral. For this we use the technique developed by R.Buckdahn to analyze stochastic differential equations on the Wiener space, which is based on the Girsanov theorem and the Malliavin calculus, and we reduce …
This paper is concerned with the backward stochastic differential equations whose generator is a weighted fractional Brownian field: $Y_t=ξ+\int_t^T Y_s W (ds,B_s) -\int_t^T Z_sdB_s$, $0\le t\le T$, where $W$ is a $(d+1)$-parameter weighted fractional Brownian field of Hurst parameter $H=(H_0, H_1, \cdots, H_d)$, which provide probabilistic interpretations (Feynman-Kac formulas) for certain linear stochastic partial differential equations with colored space-time noise. Conditions on the Hurst parameter $H$ and on the decay rate of the weight are given to ensure the existence and uniqueness of …
This note is devoted to show how to push forward the algebraic integration setting in order to treat differential systems driven by a noisy input with Hölder regularity greater than 1/4. After recalling how to treat the case of ordinary stochastic differential equations, we mainly focus on the case of delay equations. A careful analysis is then performed in order to show that a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter H>1/4 fulfills the assumptions of our abstract theorems.
We study parameter estimation problem for diagonalizable stochastic partial differential equations driven by a multiplicative fractional noise with any Hurst parameter $H\in(0,1)$. Two classes of estimators are investigated: traditional maximum likelihood type estimators, and a new class called closed-form exact estimators. Finally the general results are applied to stochastic heat equation driven by a fractional Brownian motion.
This paper deals with the drift estimation in linear stochastic evolution equations (with emphasis on linear SPDEs) with additive fractional noise (with Hurst index ranging from 0 to 1) via least-squares procedure. Since the least-squares estimator contains stochastic integrals of divergence type, we address the problem of its pathwise (and robust to observation errors) evaluation by comparison with the pathwise integral of Stratonovich type and using its chain-rule property. The resulting pathwise LSE is then defined implicitly as a solution to a non-linear equation. We study its numerical pr…
We prove uniqueness in law for a class of parabolic stochastic partial differential equations in an interval driven by a functional A(u) of the temperature u times a space-time white noise. The functional A(u) is Hölder continuous in u of order greater than 1/2. Our method involves looking at an associated system of infinite-dimensional stochastic differential equations and we obtain a uniqueness result for such systems.
In this article we introduce and analyze a notion of mild solution for a class of non-autonomous parabolic stochastic partial differential equations defined on a bounded open subset $D\subset\mathbb{R}^{d}$ and driven by an infinite-dimensional fractional noise. The noise is derived from an $L^{2}(D)$-valued fractional Wiener process $W^{H}$ whose covariance operator satisfies appropriate restrictions; moreover, the Hurst parameter $H$ is subjected to constraints formulated in terms of $d$ and the Hölder exponent of the derivative $h^\prime$ of the noise nonlinearity in the equations. We prove…
Let H be a Hilbert space and E a Banach space. We set up a theory of stochastic integration of L(H,E)-valued functions with respect to H-cylindrical Liouville fractional Brownian motions (fBm) with arbitrary Hurst parameter in the interval (0,1). For Hurst parameters in (0,1/2) we show that a function F:(0,T)\to L(H,E) is stochastically integrable with respect to an H-cylindrical Liouville fBm if and only if it is stochastically integrable with respect to an H-cylindrical fBm with the same Hurst parameter. As an application we show that second-order parabolic SPDEs on bounded domains in \mathb…
We consider a stochastic boundary value elliptic problem on a bounded domain $D\subset \mathbb{R}^k$, driven by a fractional Brownian field with Hurst parameter $H=(H_1,...,H_k)\in[{1/2},1[^k$. First we define the stochastic convolution derived from the Green kernel and prove some properties. Using monotonicity methods, we prove existence and uniqueness of solution, along with regularity of the sample paths. Finally, we propose a sequence of lattice approximations and prove its convergence to the solution of the SPDE at a given rate.
This paper is devoted to a system of stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) that have a slow component driven by fractional Brownian motion (fBm) with the Hurst parameter $H >1/2$ and a fast component driven by fast-varying diffusion. It improves previous work in two aspects: Firstly, using a stopping time technique and an approximation of the fBm, we prove an existence and uniqueness theorem for a class of mixed SPDEs driven by both fBm and Brownian motion; Secondly, an averaging principle in the mean square sense for SPDEs driven by fBm subject to an additional fast-varying diffus…
We provide a device, called the local predictor, which extends the idea of the predictable compensator. It is shown that a fBm with the Hurst index greater than 1/2 coincides with its local predictor while fBm with the Hurst index smaller than 1/2 does not admit any local predictor. The local predictor of a martingale (in particular: Brownian motion) trivially exists and equals 0.
Let ${\mathscr L}^H(x,t)=2H\int_0^tδ(B^H_s-x)s^{2H-1}ds$ be the weighted local time of fractional Brownian motion $B^H$ with Hurst index $1/2<H<1$. In this paper, we use Young integration to study the integral of determinate functions $\int_{\mathbb R}f(x){\mathscr L}^H(dx,t)$. As an application, we investigate the {\it weighted quadratic covariation} $[f(B^H),B^H]^{(W)}$ defined by $$ [f(B^H),B^H]^{(W)}_t:=\lim_{n\to \infty}2H\sum_{k=0}^{n-1} k^{2H-1}\{f(B^H_{t_{k+1}})-f(B^H_{t_{k}})\}(B^H_{t_{k+1}}-B^H_{t_{k}}), $$ where the limit is uniform in probability and $t_k=kt/n$. We show that it exi…
We investigate the sharp large deviation properties of the energy and the maximum likelihood estimator for the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process driven by a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index greater than one half.
We prove the existence of the intersection local time for two independent, d -dimensional fractional Brownian motions with the same Hurst parameter H. Assume d greater or equal to 2, then the intersection local time exists if and only if Hd<2.
We derive estimates for the solutions to differential equations driven by a Hölder continuous function of order $β>1/2$. As an application we deduce the existence of moments for the solutions to stochastic partial differential equations driven by a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H>{1/2}$.
It is shown that the law of an SDE driven by fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter greater than 1/2 has a smooth density with respect to Lebesgue measure, provided that the driving vector fields satisfy Hörmander's condition. The main new ingredient of the proof is an extension of Norris' lemma to this situation.
We study the anticipative backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs, for short) driven by fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter H greater than 1/2. The stochastic integral used throughout the paper is the divergence operator type integral. We obtain the existence and uniqueness of solutions to these equations. A comparison theorem for this type of anticipative BSDEs is also established.
We consider stochastic flow on n-dimensional Euclidean space driven by fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter H greater than half, and study tangent flow and the growth of the Hausdorff measure of sub-manifolds of the ambient n-dimensional Euclidean space, as they evolve under the flow. The main result is a bound on the rate of (global) growth in terms of the (local) Holder norm of the flow.
The aim of this paper is to establish the almost sure asymptotic behavior as the space variable becomes large, for the solution to the one spatial dimensional stochastic heat equation driven by a Gaussian noise which is white in time and which has the covariance structure of a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter greater than 1/4 and less than 1/2 in the space variable.
In this paper, we focus on the mean-field backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) driven by a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter H greater then 1/2. First, the existence and uniqueness of these equations are established under Lipschitz condition. Then, a comparison theorem for such mean-field BSDEs is obtained. Finally, as an application, we connect this mean-field BSDE with a nonlocal partial differential equation (PDE).
In this paper we study the existence of a unique solution to a general class of Young delay differential equations driven by a Hölder continuous function with parameter greater that 1/2 via the Young integration setting. Then some estimates of the solution are obtained, which allow to show that the solution of a delay differential equation driven by a fractional Brownian motion (fBm) with Hurst parameter H>1/2 has a smooth density. To this purpose, we use Malliavin calculus based on the Frechet differentiability in the directions of the reproducing kernel Hilbert space associated with fBm.
In this article, we study the numerical approximation of stochastic differential equations driven by a multidimensional fractional Brownian motion (fBm) with Hurst parameter greater than 1/3. We introduce an implementable scheme for these equations, which is based on a second order Taylor expansion, where the usual Levy area terms are replaced by products of increments of the driving fBm. The convergence of our scheme is shown by means of a combination of rough paths techniques and error bounds for the discretisation of the Levy area terms.
We show that the distribution of the square of the supremum of reflected fractional Brownian motion up to time a, with Hurst parameter-H greater than 1/2, is related to the distribution of its hitting time to level $1,$ using the self similarity property of fractional Brownian motion. It is also proven that second moment of supremum of reflected fractional Brownian motion up to time $a$ is bounded above by $a^{2H}.$ Similar relations are obtained for the supremum of fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter greater than 1/2, and its hitting time to level $1.$ What is more, we obtain an u…
We consider anticipative Stratonovich stochastic differential equations driven by some stochastic process (not necessarily a semi-martingale). No adaptedness of initial point or vector fields is assumed. Under a simple condition on the stochastic process, we show that the unique solution of the above SDE understood in the rough path sense is actually a Stratonovich solution. This condition is satisfied by the Brownian motion and the fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter greater than 1/4. As application, we obtain rather flexible results such as support theorems, large deviation princ…
We consider a mean-field optimal control problem for stochastic differential equations with delay driven by fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter greater than one half. Stochastic optimal control problems driven by fractional Brownian motion can not be studied using classical methods, because the fractional Brownian motion is neither a Markov process nor a semi-martingale. However, using the fractional White noise calculus combined with some special tools related to the differentiation for functions of measures, we establish and prove necessary and sufficient stochastic maximum princ…
In the framework of fractional stochastic calculus, we study the existence and the uniqueness of the solution for a backward stochastic differential equation, formally written as: [{[c]{l}% -dY(t)= f(t,η(t),Y(t),Z(t))dt-Z(t)δB^{H}(t), \quad t\in[0,T], Y(T)=ξ,.] where $η$ is a stochastic process given by $η(t)=η(0) +\int_{0}^{t}σ(s) δB^{H}(s)$, $t\in[0,T]$, and $B^{H}$ is a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter greater than 1/2. The stochastic integral used in above equation is the divergence-type integral. Based on Hu and Peng's paper, \textit{BDSEs driven by fBm}, SIAM J Control Opt…
We analyze the effect of additive fractional noise with Hurst parameter $H > \frac{1}{2}$ on fast-slow systems. Our strategy is based on sample paths estimates, similar to the approach by Berglund and Gentz in the Brownian motion case. Yet, the setting of fractional Brownian motion does not allow us to use the martingale methods from fast-slow systems with Brownian motion. We thoroughly investigate the case where the deterministic system permits a uniformly hyperbolic stable slow manifold. In this setting, we provide a neighborhood, tailored to the fast-slow structure of the system, that conta…
