Interaction properties of complex solitons are studied for the two U(1)-invariant integrable generalizations of the mKdV equation, given by the Hirota equation and the Sasa-Satsuma equation, which share the same travelling wave (single-soliton) solution having a {\em sech} profile characterized by a constant speed and a constant phase angle. For both equations, nonlinear interactions where a fast soliton collides with a slow soliton are shown to be described by 2-soliton solutions that can have three different types of interaction profiles depending on the speed ratio and the relative phase angle of the individual solitons. In all cases the shapes and speeds of the solitons are found to be preserved apart from a shift in position such that their center of momentum moves at a constant speed. Moreover, for the Hirota equation, the phase angles of the fast and slow solitons are found to remain unchanged, while for the Sasa-Satsuma equation, the phase angles are shown to undergo a shift such that the relative phase between the fast and slow solitons changes sign.
We study group theoretical structures of the mKdV equation. The Schwarzian type mKdV equation has the global Möbius group symmetry. The Miura transformation makes a connection between the mKdV equation and the KdV equation. We find the special local Möbius transformation on the mKdV one-soliton solution which can be regarded as the commutative KdV Bäcklund transformation can generate the mKdV cyclic symmetric $N$-soliton solution. In this algebraic construction to obtain multi-soliton solutions, we could observe the addition formula.
We study to unify soliton systems, KdV/mKdV/sinh-Gordon, through SO(2,1) $\cong$ GL(2,$\mathbb R$) $\cong$ Möbius group point of view, which might be a keystone to exactly solve some special non-linear differential equations. If we construct the $N$-soliton solutions through the KdV type Bäcklund transformation, we can transform different KdV/mKdV/sinh-Gordon equations and the Bäcklund transformations of the standard form into the same common Hirota form and the same common Bäcklund transformation except the equation which has the time-derivative term. The difference is only the time-dependenc…
Under investigation in this paper is the nonisospectral and variable coefficients modified Kortweg-de Vries (vc-mKdV) equation, which manifests in diverse areas of physics such as fluid dynamics, ion acoustic solitons and plasma mechanics. With the degrees of restriction reduced, a simplified constraint is introduced, under which the vc-mKdV equation is an integrable system and the spectral flow is time-varying. The Darboux transformation for such equation is constructed, which gives rise to the generation of variable kinds of solutions including the double-breather coherent structure, periodi…
In this paper, we investigate the anomalous dispersive relations, inverse scattering transform with a Riemann-Hilbert (RH) problem, and fractional multi-solitons of the integrable combined fractional higher-order mKdV (fhmKdV) hierarchy, including the fractional mKdV (fmKdV), fractional fifth-order mKdV (f5mKdV), fractional combined third-fifth-order mKdV (f35mKdV) equations, etc., which can be featured via completeness of squared scalar eigenfunctions of the ZS spectral problem. We construct a matrix RH problem to present three types of fractional N-solitons illustrating anomalous dispersions…
We find one- and two-soliton solutions of shifted nonlocal NLS and MKdV equations. We discuss the singular structures of these soliton solutions and present some of the graphs of them.
In this paper, we prove that the nonlocal complex modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equation introduced by Ablowitz and Musslimani [Nonlinearity, 29, 915-946 (2016)] is gauge equivalent to a spin-like model. From the gauge equivalence, one can see that there exists significant difference between the nonlocal complex mKdV equation and the classical complex mKdV equation. Through constructing the Darboux transformation(DT) for nonlocal complex mKdV equation, a variety of exact solutions including dark soliton, W-type soliton, M-type soliton and periodic solutions are derived.
We study the nonlocal modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equations obtained from AKNS scheme by Ablowitz-Musslimani type nonlocal reductions. We first find soliton solutions of the coupled mKdV system by using the Hirota direct method. Then by using the Ablowitz-Musslimani reduction formulas, we find one-, two-, and three-soliton solutions of local and nonlocal complex mKdV and mKdV equations. The soliton solutions of these equations are of two types. We give one-soliton solutions of both types and present only first type of two- and three-soliton solutions. We illustrate our soliton solutions …
We first study coupled Hirota-Iwao modified KdV (HI-mKdV) systems and give all possible local and nonlocal reductions of these systems. We then present Hirota bilinear forms of these systems and give one-soliton solutions of them with the help of pfaffians. By using the soliton solutions of the coupled HI-mKdV systems for $N=2,3,$ and $N=4$ we find one-soliton solutions of the local and nonlocal reduced equations.
In this paper, we systematically study the integrability and data-driven solutions of the nonlocal mKdV equation. The infinite conservation laws of the nonlocal mKdV equation and the corresponding infinite conservation quantities are given through Riccti equation. The data driven solutions of the zero boundary for the nonlocal mKdV equation are studied by using the multi-layer physical information neural network algorithm, which including kink soliton, complex soliton, bright-bright soliton and the interaction between soliton and kink-type. For the data-driven solutions with non-zero boundary,…
It is well known that the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation is a very important integrable equation. Ablowitz and Musslimani introduced and investigated an integrable nonlocal NLS equation through inverse scattering transform. Very recently, we proposed an integrable nonlocal modified Korteweg-de Vries equation (mKdV) which can also be found in a paper of Ablowitz and Musslimani. We have constructed the Darboux transformation and soliton solutions for the nonlocal mKdV equation. In this paper, we will investigate further the nonlocal mKdV equation. We will give its exact solutions including…
The $n$-fold Darboux transformation $T_{n}$ of the focusing real mo\-di\-fied Kor\-te\-weg-de Vries (mKdV) equation is expressed in terms of the determinant representation. Using this representation, the $n$-soliton solutions of the mKdV equation are also expressed by determinants whose elements consist of the eigenvalues $λ_{j}$ and the corresponding eigenfunctions of the associated Lax equation. The nonsingular $n$-positon solutions of the focusing mKdV equation are obtained in the special limit $λ_{j}\rightarrowλ_{1}$, from the corresponding $n$-soliton solutions and by using the associated…
We utilize the relation between soliton solutions of the mKdV and the combined mKdV-KdV equation and the Dirac equation to construct electrostatic fields which yield exact zero energy states of graphene.
Harmonically modulated complex solitary waves which are a generalized type of envelope soliton (herein coined oscillatory solitons) are studied for the two U(1)-invariant integrable generalizations of the modified Korteweg-de Vries equation, given by the Hirota equation and the Sasa-Satsuma equation. A bilinear formulation of these two equations is used to derive the oscillatory 1-soliton and 2-soliton solutions, which are then written out in a physical form parameterized in terms of their speed, modulation frequency, and phase. Depending on the modulation frequency, the speeds of oscillatory …
We study the Riemann geometric approach to be aimed at unifying soliton systems. The general two-dimensional Einstein equation with constant scalar curvature becomes an integrable differential equation. We show that such Einstein equation includes KdV/mKdV/sine-Gordon equations.
We mainly construct and analyze the multi elliptic-localized solutions under the background of elliptic function solutions for the focusing modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equation. Based on the Darboux-Bäcklund transformation, we provide a uniform expression for these solutions by the Jacobi theta functions. The asymptotic behaviors of multi elliptic-localized solutions are provided directly in two categories. By the consistent asymptotic expression of those solutions, we obtain that the collisions between the elliptic-breathers/solitons are elastic. Moreover, a sufficient condition of the …
In this work, we mainly study the general $N$-soliton solutions of the nonlocal modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equation by utilizing the Riemann-Hilbert (RH) method. For the initial value belonging to Schwarz space, we firstly obtain the corresponding eigenfunctions and scattering data in the direct scattering process. Then we successfully establish a suitable RH problem of the nonlocal mKdV equation. The exact expression of the solution for the equation is derived via solving the RH problem. Using the symmetry of scattering data, the phenomena corresponding to different eigenvalues are ana…
The ${\cal N} =1$ supersymmetric mKdV-B system is transformed to a system of coupled bosonic equations by using the bosonization approach. The bosonized supersymmetric mKdV-B (BSmKdV-B) equation can be solved by the usual mKdV equation together with a linear differential equations without fermionic variables. The bosonization approach can thus effectively avoid difficulties caused by anticommutative fermionic fields of the supersymmetric systems. The consistent tanh expansion (CTE) method is applied to the BSmKdV-B equation. An auto-Bäcklund (BT) theorem is obtained by using CTE method. The in…
The Hirota equation and the Sasa-Satsuma equation are U(1)-invariant integrable generalizations of the modified Korteweg-de Vries equation. These two generalizations admit oscillatory solitons, which describe harmonically modulated complex solitary waves parameterized by their speed, modulation frequency, and phase. Depending on the modulation frequency, the speeds of oscillatory waves (1-solitons) can be positive, negative, or zero, in contrast to the strictly positive speed of ordinary solitons. When the speed is zero, an oscillatory wave is a time-periodic standing wave. Oscillatory 2-solit…
There exist two natural vector generalizations of the completely integrable nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation in $1+1$ dimensions: the well-known Manakov model and the lesser-known Kulish-Sklyanin model. In this paper, we propose a binary Darboux (or Zakharov-Shabat dressing) transformation that can be directly applied to the Kulish-Sklyanin model. By deriving a simple closed expression for iterations of the binary Darboux transformation, we obtain an explicit formula for the $N$-soliton solution of the Kulish-Sklyanin model under vanishing boundary conditions. Because the third-order symme…
We consider a generalization of the mKdV equation, which contains dissipation terms similar to those contained in both the Benjamin-Bona-Mahoney equation and the famous Camassa-Holm and Degasperis-Procesi equations. Our objective is the construction of classical (solitons) and non-classical (peakons and cuspons) solitary wave solutions of this equation.
We start with the Lax representation for the Kaup-Kupersschmidt equation (KKE). We We outline the deep relation between the scalar Lax operator and the matrix Lax operators related to Kac-Moody algebras. Then we derive the MKdV equations gauge equivalent to the KKE. Next we outline the symmetry and the spectral properties of the relevant Lax operator. Using the dressing Zakharov-Shabat method we demonstrate that the MKdV and KKE have two types of one-soliton solutions and briefly comment on their properties.
By applying Darboux-Crum transformations to a Lax pair formulation of the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation, we construct new sets of multi-soliton solutions to it as well as to the modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equation. The obtained solutions exhibit a chiral asymmetry in propagation of different types of defects in crystalline backgrounds. We show that the KdV solitons of pulse and compression modulation types, which support bound states in semi-infinite and finite forbidden bands in the spectrum of the perturbed quantum one-gap Lame system, propagate in opposite directions with respect …
We study existence of helical solitons in the vector modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equations, one of which is integrable, whereas another one is non-integrable. The latter one describes nonlinear waves in various physical systems, including plasma and chains of particles connected by elastic springs. By using the dynamical system methods such as the blow-up near singular points and the construction of invariant manifolds, we construct helical solitons by the efficient shooting method. The helical solitons arise as the result of co-dimension one bifurcation and exist along a curve in the ve…
In this paper, we obtain the long-time asymptotics of complex mKdV equation via Defit-Zhou method (Non-linear steepest descent method). The Cauchy problem of complex mKdV equation is transformed into the corresponding Riemann-Hilbert problem on the basis of the Lax pair and the scattering matrix. After that Riemann-Hilbert problems are converted through a decomposition of the matrix-valued spectral function and factorizations of the jump matrix for Riemann-Hilbert problem. Finally, by solving the last model problem, the long-time asymptotics of complex mKdV equation are derived.
Traveling periodic waves of the modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equation are considered in the focusing case. By using one-fold and two-fold Darboux transformations, we construct explicitly the rogue periodic waves of the mKdV equation expressed by the Jacobian elliptic functions dn and cn respectively. The rogue dn-periodic wave describes propagation of an algebraically decaying soliton over the dn-periodic wave, the latter wave is modulationally stable with respect to long-wave perturbations. The rogue cn-periodic wave represents the outcome of the modulation instability of the cn-periodic…
We have derived the hierarchy of soliton equations associated with the untwisted affine Kac-Moody algebra D^(1)_4 by calculating the corresponding recursion operators. The Hamiltonian formulation of the equations from the hierarchy is also considered. As an example we have explicitly presented the first non-trivial member of the hierarchy, which is an one-parameter family of mKdV equations. We have also considered the spectral properties of the Lax operator and introduced a minimal set of scattering data.
Superpositions of hierarchies of integrable equations are also integrable. The superposed equations, such as the Hirota equations in the AKNS hierarchy, cannot be considered as new integrable equations. Furthermore if one applies the Hirota bilinear method to these equations one obtains the same $N$-soliton solutions of the generating equation which differ only by the dispersion relations. Similar discussions can be made for the locally and nonlocally reduced equations as well. We give, as an example, AKNS system of equations in $(1+1)$-dimensions.

We present a rigorous theory of a unified and simple inverse scattering transform (IST) for both focusing and defocusing real nonlocal (reverse-space-time) modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equations with non-zero boundary conditions (NZBCs) at infinity. The IST problems for the nonlocal equations with NZBCs are more complicated then ones for the local equations with NZBCs. The suitable uniformization variable is introduced in order to make the direct and inverse problems be established on a complex plane instead of a two-sheeted Riemann surface. The direct scattering problem establishes the a…
